Figure skater Johnny Weir is receiving criticism for wearing this outfit during a recent competition because apparently it is fox fur. I know figure skaters have some ridiculous outfits… but this might top them all. What do you think?
Weight in at Lovelyish Style Court: Is Johnny Weir’s fur costume too much?
guest
Yawn…
guest
i like it tbh. its skating. showy.

Why do we think it’s more okay to kill cows than foxes?
guest
Wow, that’s kind of ridiculous.

Who cares. Get off his back, PETA
guest
the costume is kind of over the top and silly.
BUT, i’m so tired of people getting mad over people wearing fur. i just looked up this story, and it says he received death threats because he wore fur. DEATH THREATS. seriously people ?!
if you don’t like fur, don’t wear it. but there’s no reason why he shouldn’t be allowed to if that’s what he wants to do. it’s a personal choice.
guest
@babyybluee@xanga - there are those people who will throw paint on you if they see you wearing any type of fur as well, because they don’t think people should…
I think that and death threats are both stupid, if you don’t like fur, you have a right to your opinions, but people shouldn’t be threatened because they choose to wear it.
guest
blah.
guest
O-K! I forgot the fur thing for a moment ’cause I was a bit disturbed with what he’s wearing.
About the fur thing… WTH? Not so much of a big deal actually. T_T
guest
it is a pretty swan prince skating outfit. it isn’t that ridiculous. if he wore a kilt/skirt to skate, then that would be weird and daring. I don’t have a problem with his outfit.

humm ……
guest
It’s not at all. Why would it be? Because he’s a man?
guest
Almost none of those animals are killed humanely, fyi. They are skinned alive or beaten to death. It is a big deal, actually. I like to see some of you beaten to death. Where is Moz, my anti fur friend?
guest
@WhenHateIsTheOnlyOption@xanga - Thank you! This issue isn’t simply “If you don’t like it, don’t wear it.” Somebody has to be the voice for these defenseless animals.
There is NO reason to wear real fur… and either way, real or faux it’s ugly anyways.
guest
I think the outfit looks fine for Johnny Weir, but I’m surprised that he would wear real animal fur. I thought he was the kind of person who was against that sort of thing. *shrugs*
sunflower / 391 posts
Yes, his outfit is hideous on top of the fact that it’s made out of an animals fur. That’s just disgusting. I think some of you defending his choice in wearing fur should really look up videos on how they go about making these ridiculous pieces. It’s really heart wrenching and sad.

“I totally get the dirtiness of the fur industry and how terrible it is
to animals. But it’s not something that’s the No. 1 priority in my
life,” Weir said on Tuesday. “There are humans dying everyday. There
are thousands if not millions of homeless people in New York City. Look
at what just happened in Haiti.
“I tend to focus my energy, if there is a cause, on humans. While that may be callous and bad of me, it’s my choice.”
He makes an excellent point…

he looks fabulous~~
guest
Nty.
guest
@weightofhearts@xanga - he makes the same point that i do.
before we focus on animal rights, maybe we should focus on the humans that get slaughtered every day. what about darfur?
and also, it IS as simple as if you don’t like it don’t wear it. we all have a right to our own opinions. and i’m not even going to go into PETA. there’s so many things wrong with that organization i don’t even know where to start.
& fyi, i’m not saying by any means that i’m pro-fur, i would most likely never wear it because i just don’t like the idea of a dead thing hanging on my body. i’m just saying there’s no reason to judge or condemn someone who makes the choice to.
guest
uhm wtf
guest
well it’s not a gorgeous outfit, but i have absolutely no problem with animal fur.
guest
ppl wear leather.
guest
Wait. Is this controversial because he’s male and wearing fur or is it because it’s fox fur (hence animal cruelty)?
And who the heck is bringing this up anyway? Who cares? I watch skating for the skating. The outfits? Well, they’re ridiculous most of the time anyways.
guest
I think he’ll be great in the sack
guest
@Nina1981@xanga -
humans have been killing animals for both food and clothing for… well, forever.it’s the natural order.i agree that it should be done more humanely.but really.
daffodil / 1975 posts
Whatever. It’s for a male figure skater.
guest
@Imnotcrazyjustinsane@xanga - Agreed… its not.
guest
@babyybluee@xanga - @weightofhearts@xanga - Well if you are concerned about humans you should also be concerned about the environment we live in because of the previous fur fashion causes great pollution and releases toxic carcinogens into the air (for which many fur farms have been continually fined), it depleted the oxygen levels in the nearby waters killing off fish and making water unsuitable for human consumption because of all the animal waste they get from continually “producing” animals in factories, and consume an enormous amount of energy.
“Among the disastrous consequences of this noxious waste is the threat
to human health from the highly elevated levels of lead, cyanide, and
formaldehyde in the ground water near tanneries. The US Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention found that the incidence of leukemia
among residents in an area surrounding one tannery in Kentucky was five
times the national average. People who work in tanneries are
dying of cancer caused by exposure to dimethylformamide and other toxic
chemicals used to process and dye the skins. The coal tar derivatives
used are extremely potent cancer-causing agents. According to one study
released by the New York State Department of Health, more than half of
all testicular cancer victims work in tanneries.”- Global Action Network
I too am all for helping humans first but we humans are just being silly in our desire for material goods which are harmful to our health and the environment (as well as being cruel).

I don’t really see why he didn’t just use faux fur.
That would have saved him from this “controversy.”
guest
He looks like an idiot.
guest
Maybe his fox needed a hair cut. Ever thought about that?
guest
I’d wrather personally tear the skin off of 1,000 live foxes then watch children starve to death all over the world. Fuck you PETA, I fucking hate you- all of you.
hatehatehatehatehatehate.
guest
The actual look itself isn’t that bad; it’s the fact that it’s fur that bothers me. I don’t believe in fur.
guest
@Salivarysatisfaction@datingish - Because if he didn’t wear this CHILDREN WERE GOING TO STARVE.
geniuz
guest
BEAT THE FRUITER.
Hey, he’s way less cute than baby foxes.
guest
@babyybluee@xanga - I agree. I don’t judge people that beat their children. It’s their choice to.
guest
@Imnotcrazyjustinsane@xanga - The general consensus is fur is bad because of how it is obtained. Electrocution, beating to death. Where a cow is just supposed to be shot in the head. Which doesn’t actually happen all of the time. Some places have cut cows alive just to save on bullets. What a lovely world, eh? Watching your legs go by on a conveyor belt! =D
guest
@badluckforever@xanga - There are many things humans have done in the past that is no longer necessary today. Have you seen the way a factory farm operates? There is nothing natural about that. Do we NEED to wear fur? No. I’d like to think we’ve evolved. But that is my minority opinion I know doesn’t fly with the masses lol.
magnolia / 1369 posts
Would I rather people don’t wear animal fur? Of course. But people are going to wear it and it’s legal. Until we change the rules I don’t see a real problem with it. In fact, as long as the fox was eaten I don’t see a problem at all.
guest
Go save something else. Jeez. Who gives a fuck.
guest
Fur shouldn’t be an issue anymore. Why does anyone still think it’s cool to wear fur? It’s true we should concentrate on other issues – but only because this small one should have been already resolved.
guest
@MissPixieGlitter@xanga - @icesoul_09@xanga - @babyybluee@xanga - @irishluck20@xanga -
not to be an animal rights nazi or anything, but fur farming is an incredibly cruel and unnecessary industry. of course he shouldn’t receive death threats or anything. but it probably would have been a lot cheaper and less cruel if he would have chosen fake fur.
here’s some info about fur farming:

@Salivarysatisfaction@datingish -
peta isn’t the greatest, but they are certainly not advocating starving children to death. the option isn’t one or the other. “starve kids or skin foxes alive”
in fact, if people at less meat there would be fewer starving people in the world. if thats really your concern, consider going vegetarian. it takes so much land and grain to feed livestock. that same land and grain would feed more people than the meat gained from the livestock.
http://www.all-creatures.org/articles/vegstaves.html
not to mention the fact that factory farming, the methane produced by raising cattle, the loss of forests, etc etc has lead to global environmental problems that are currently effecting humans. it isn’t “us or them”. we are animals too, and are effected by all of this.
guest
@Imnotcrazyjustinsane@xanga - agreed
guest
yeah. that’s an ugly outfit. and what a waste. there’s barely even any fur on there. would it have killed him to use faux-fur?
guest
@MangoWOW@xanga - i REALLY doubt they ate the fox. the fur industry doesn’t really work like that.
magnolia / 1369 posts
@bodyheartmindsoul@xanga - I know they don’t. I was talking about more in general when people use fur.
guest
i am anti-fur so i don’t wear it, but there are other issues that are more pressing at the moment…
guest
@ShimmerBodyCream@xanga - The sentence was saying that I care more about humans than animals and my detest for peta is great.
guest
I actually love this. I love fur. I really don’t see a problem with animals being RAISED for fur purposes. Or meat purposes for that matter, it’s a fact of life. No, they don’t just pluck them out of the wild and take them from their families, making them sad and lonely and etc. Suck it up Peta, it’s reality and fur is gorgeous!
guest
i’d rather this dandy fella be made fun of for traipsing around in a mink stole and tiara like a feggit than have some critter be beaten to death to provide him fur, so yeah, PETA iz vry kool.
daisy / 613 posts
@ShimmerBodyCream@xanga - Mm, but cows are treated badly for their entire lives. They live in their own filth. Not really sure which animal I’d rather be.
sunflower / 321 posts
There’s really nothing wrong with his outfit. Fox? Eh. Sad but, jeez. Leave him alone. He didn’t kill it.
guest
@emptyspiral@xanga - wow. how mature of you to use a slur against his sexuality. you’re certainly providing a great example. and now, peta is not ‘kool’. read about them sometime.
daisy / 556 posts
I think he could’ve gotten the same effect with faux fur. Real fur is a fashion faux pas no matter what your profession and no matter what your gender.
guest
I thought of Zoolander.
guest
@babyybluee@xanga - i’d rather this dandy fella be made fun of for traipsing around in a mink stole and tiara like a feggit than have some critter be beaten to death to provide him fur, so yeah, PETA iz vry kool.
guest
yea too much that became ugly.
guest
@babymeatball@xanga - you’re totally entitled to your opinion, but i disagree. i’ve seen and done enough dissections not to be fazed by dead things.
guest
well, u can never judge a figure skater, they’re just way too awesome.
Plus, mayb he’s programme fits his outfit, u’ll never know
guest
I don’t like the fur. I personally am 94% vegetarian and only wear leather boots for shoes because it lasts longer and you end up having to buy less shoes than if you buy shoes/ boots made out of other materials.
guest
Fox fur is a fail.
I think PETA should keep doing what they’re doing – they make life interesting.
@imnotcrazyjustinsane@xanga I agree completely
