For everyone out there obsessed or who knows someone that’s obsessed with watching Gossip Girl, Melrose Place, Jersey Shore, 90210 and all those other shows on TV, it gives me one reason I don’t have cable. Besides the fact we cannot afford a $50 cable bill, all those shows are is soft core porn, and as a Christian I don’t feel I should be watching things of that nature.
Some of you might say “don’t watch it then if you’re so prudish!”
I still get The CW, even on antenna, so I still get to see previews of some of the shows, and seriously, I can watch late night TV(since my hubby gets off at 11:15 at night I sometimes do), and see a 1-900 number for a chat-line that’s cleaner than the previews, believe it or not! I am not a prude, I don’t condemn ALL cable, just those soft core porn teen to mid twenty something shows. If I had cable I would be watching Intervention, Obsessed and Speeders, three of my top shows I miss that are on cable.
I mean really, how many times can I watch someone getting naked and having sex with someone that’s pssh, not even her boyfriend. But, that doesn’t matter it’s all a TV show right? It’s all right to watch people parade around half naked in school and out in public, go to wild out of control drinking parties when you know they’re not legally 21 yet, because it’s a TV show no one is really going to go out in real life and get plastered like that.
Rumors that are so maliciously hateful are never said in real life, once again, people believing what’s on TV doesn’t happen in real life. Statistics actually show that in the last 20 years, teen pregnancy has spiked, which follows the trend of shows getting racier and dirtier.
I am actually old enough to remember the beginnings of Beverly Hills 90210 and the original Melrose Place; my parents watched those shows and I watched it with them. Up until the 3rd or 4th season they were relatively clean, there was no blatant sex scenes, no blatant partying, and other things that the “new 90210″ shows on every single episode. Same with Dawson’s Creek, another show I watched, it was fairly clean too!
But I’m going back 10-15 years when the regulations and controls on what could be showed and not showed was a lot stricter too. I remember as a kid, knowing that after either 8 or 9pm there was nothing good on TV. Except on Friday night, because that was TGIF on ABC, where we watched Family Matters, Full House, Boy Meets World and other shows like that.
How come it’s so “popular” to watch shows like this, and why are parents allowing their kids to watch this? Do they realize that the age their children are (including myself I am only 23) learning and watching these things, thinking it’s okay to go to a wild party, get plastered and have sex with someone you don’t even know?
Same with their appearance, they’re looking to these actors and actresses thinking that they have to look as pretty and handsome as they do, buy the clothes that’ll make them fit in and look like them because they think that’s what everyone wants. As we all know appearance at that age is everything right? I think this is sending the wrong message and there’s a reason 20 or 30 girls at one school are all pregnant, and why so many teens are experimenting with alcohol and drugs, they are watching and copying their favorite stars. They don’t realize that if they post pictures of themselves in skimpy attire, have their pictures taken at a wild party and they’re tagged in a photo that one day will come back to haunt them.
I think shows like this set a bad example, and I for one don’t watch it, even those I have access to with my limited “free” tv. I chalk it up there as a “soft core porn” you don’t even have to get carded for, go to the seedy side of town to the adult bookstore, or even order it from your cable tv, because its all right there at your normal 8-10pm time slot. That is the main reason I don’t have cable, I don’t want to watch it, because I find it disturbing and immoral. If I want to watch porn, I would turn on my TV, and have a field day, but soft core teenage porn isn’t my taste.
Do you agree? Do you watch any of these shows?
guest
That’s why I watch hardcore porn.

This is the reason I barely watch TV anymore. Because America’s basically come down to sex and money. I can’t stand it.

@ShimmerBodyCream@xanga - I agree with what she said.
guest
@SilentMetronome@xanga - I agree. I dont watch anything on TV unless its educational, documentaries, cartoons, Discovery channel, animal planet, or old Tv shows and sitcoms like Boy meets world, Seinfeld, The Office, Family Guy, Simpsons.. and other stuff. No “reality” SHows or ridiculous dramas for me.

i don’t watch any of those

Do you really think us teenagers are stupid enough to do things because we saw them on TV?
That’s a dumb assumption.

@breaking_expectations@xanga - A frightening majority seem to…not all, I definitely didn’t, but it’s sadly pretty common.

reality tv show has taken over! like vh1 and mtv is shit tv now! i’m sick of it! i’m not christian but i don’t think it’s prudish cuz shit i don’t watch that shit at all! the only other reality tv show that i watched was jon and kate plus 8 pre divorce pre cheating pre everything scandals! when they were both model parents to their 8 children… the disney channel is much more interesting to me and i’m 23 also! i rather watch disney channel than all these stupid ass shows that portray sex 24/7 seriously tv is just shit… the only other shows i watch are full house, what i like about you, friends, my wife and kids, criminal minds, csi miami, family matters on BET, the simpsons, fresh prince, sabrina the teenage witch… and if those shows aren’t on i’m watching the news… i seriously never liked the news till now! i wish they would bring all the old school shows back! america has hit its all time low with tv…

teen pregnancy rates have been decreasing over the past 20 years; i would like to see your statistics. i would also like to say that correlation does not imply any causal relationship. if i were to use your flawed logic, i would bring up the fact that teenage mothers are most prevalent in the most religious states. religion –> teen pregnancy? or can one not infer causation?
anyway. porn does not offend me; not that i think gossip girl is porn.

@ChelseaSmilesMore@xanga - I LOVE those channels! I also watch Style, TLC & some sporadic things on other channels. Crime shows are my favorite! And those reality shows that arent “pay to be stupid” like Disorderly Conduct or other shows with video camera crimes caught on tape.
I do agree that shows have gotten sexed up over the years. It’s meant to be watched not imitated but I do agree that it’s not the best things to watch. I’m not a prude but it’s annoying to see shows like these all the time.

I think half the shows listed are on regular broadcast tv, not cable.
Anyway, I don’t watch any of these shows, but I agree with @MissPixieGlitter@xanga that correlation (even if there IS any) is not causation. This post is just one of those shortsighted KIDS THESE DAYS BLAH BLAH spiels.
guest
look that stuff is fake and i dont think anyone would masturabe to that and if they do then they need help and if you think that is softcore porn you should see true blood just saying
guest
uhh i like law and order svu…there’s sexually relevant things in there obviously but it certainly mimics real life. ha that’s scarier to me than a sex scene in gossip girl.
@MissPixieGlitter@xanga - awesome points.
guest
if you dont have cable, then how can you call these shows softcore porn??
guest
You are completely over reacting. In most of these TV shows there are consequences to the partying and sex and drugs/alcohol. It’s a fact of reality…. people will party. Get over it. GET OVER IT!!!!!
Oh, and by the way… I like porn. Not everyone hates porn like you. Hey, porn isn’t a bad thing either. Not everyone has your views. YOU NEED TO REALIZE THIS!

soft core porn? not even close. reality check: young adults do go out, dress slutty, get wasted, and have one night stands. it’s 2010 sweetie, lighten up.
sunflower / 317 posts
Although I can see the point your making, I don’t really think these shows are necessarily encouraging irresponsible behavior like having one night stands and such. But then again, I would never get into watching any of these shows.
But I do think a lot of TV shows are lowering more and more of their standards and it’s mainly all for good ratings and money. America is pretty much addicted to scandals and sex. Where the drama is, that’s where the majority of the nation will avert their eyes to.
But damn, I do miss shows like Boy Meets World. That show addressed the hardships of life while approaching it from a comedic standpoint.
guest
I like porn. Well, not soft-core. Waste of my time, and my boyfriend’s, ha.
No, I don’t consider those shows porn. Are you kidding me? Watch some late-night Cinemax, that’s where the soft-core porn is. (And it sucks.)
I don’t watch those shows, but I do like seeing those hot guys all hot and shirtless and whatnot. I think you’re over-reacting. I mean, on those shows, young people dress up, party, gossip, fuck up, get caught doing shit, etc… And that is what a lot of them are doing in real life, too.
Sex sells. If you don’t like it, just turn it off, right?
I find it surprising you like shows like Speeders and Intervention. To me, these are worse than anything CW could concoct, because instead of watching fictional characters flirt, mess around, and party while looking perfectly camera-ready, you like to watch shows about drug addicts painfully struggling to kick their habit, and watch other people get pulled over for your own amusement…
What’s more messed up: That you’re over-reacting about shows with sex and hot people, or that you prefer the real junk-food shows where you’re either laughing at someone else’s embarrassment/shame/drunkenness, or basically rubber-necking and watching the train-wreck of someone’s painful addiction unfold before you on TV? But hey, one man’s ruined life is another man’s entertainment, right? I think there are worse things on TV than Gossip Girl…

Actually the only “teen show ” out of those you listed is Gossip Girl. The rest focus on those in their 20s (early to late).
I do agree that they can be graphic, but I do loooove Gossip Girl. However, I cringe when I think about the fact that many young teens do watch this. Yikes!
sunflower / 296 posts
@breaking_expectations@xanga - Sadly enough, it actually does happen. Not so often, but it happens.
guest
hm. i’ve never seen any of those shows,
but i’m assuming that they portray those sexual events simply because they actually take place in real life. people at that age do party and there are some people who are known to have sex with people they barely or don’t even know. it happens all the time. it’s happening as we speak.
the problem isn’t with what’s on television – it’s with the young teens
or even young adults who use shows with promiscuous sex and constant
use of alcohol and drugs as a role model for their lives instead of
simply as a means of entertainment, which is how it should be.
i’m not patronizing you for disliking the shows. not every show is for
everyone, and i respect that. however, i hate to sound blunt, but if you don’t
like the shows, then simply don’t watch it.
as for the shows comparing with soft-core, @blackspiders@xanga has a point. like i’ve stated before, i’ve never seen the shows, but i’m pretty sure that saying the two are alike would be really exaggerated. to say the shows have sexual content might be a little more accurate.
@ShimmerBodyCream@xanga - hahahhh. i used to think you were annoying, but now i find you to be delightfully funny. and YES to hardcore porn.

@ShimmerBodyCream@xanga - Exactly.

You mentioned the correlation between teen pregnancy and these shows like you though these shows caused teens to go out and do crazy stuff; but really, I think it’s the other way around. I think the shows follow the statistics. They know this is what teenagers do and this is what they’re interested in. If they weren’t interested, none of these shows would be so popular.
And also, in lots of these shows, the teenagers participating in said activities usually suffer from a negative consequence [pregnancy, hurt feelings, broken friendships, addictions, trouble with the police]. So it’s not really supporting these actions; it often displays how bad things can get.

I don’t really like it when the media is blamed for the more-asinine actions of our generation, like getting plastered or pregnant. And while those shows are inappropriate, the type of stuff on HBO is definitely worse.
I don’t watch any of those shows. I stick to Food Network so I can be pudgy and cynical.

Um sorry, but kids do these things either a) becuas they’re kids and they’re curious or b) heir parents aren’t raisin them right. If my kids were listening to gossip girl over me then I’d know I went wrong in my parenting somewhere. We need to stop blaming tv shows and blame the parents. No one wants to be responsible anymore so everything is someone else’s fault. Teens are not so dumb that they see this stuff and say “Oh cool I’m gonna go have sex with someone I don’t know!”

It may have an influence on you, but I have never heard one sinle teen say…. OMG I’M GOING TO BE LIKE HANNAH MONTANA AND LIVE TO LIFES AND BLAH BLAH. or like Some of the shows on ABC family. NO. get with it lady. What will it be like when you have kids 10years from now? Hell kids are curious. There is nothing wrong with sex, it’s the best thing I’ve ever done… HAHAHAHA. Softcore porn?- not even close. Hardcore is where it’s at.

I don’t know about the other shows, but I disagree that Gossip Girl is like soft core porn. Have you seen a complete episode? While they might show them in various states of undress leading up to the act, they never actually show the act. Would you consider movies like Love Actually soft porn as well? That’s fine if you find these shows offensive and you don’t want to watch it, but please don’t blame bad behavior on something so ridiculous as TV. Whatever happened to a parent’s responsibility? My parents let me watch whatever I want and I turned out just fine. And if someone’s stupid enough to copy what they see in TV or movies, well, they have to learn that someone in the real world’s not teaching them. Also, not everyone believes in your idea of bad behavior. For some, sex outside of marriage isn’t immoral and these shows are just fine.
Anyway, these things are meant for entertainment. They expect that the average person isn’t going to go out there and horribly backstab their friends or commit some other heinous act.

I don’t appreciate the government’s regulations of what can and can’t be shown on TV or heard on the radio. I think that individuals should be responsible for what they choose to expose themselves to, and parents should be responsible for what they expose their children to.
I’m not sure I agree that these shows are “soft porn” but I get absolutely nothing of meaning or value from watching them, so I don’t.

I’m obsessed with Gossip Girl. I’m also a teen mom.
No show ever persuaded me to have sex and become a teen mom.
Sure GG is a bit crazy but I’m not one of those stupid girls who thinks
it’s reality, henceforth doing what they do on tv.
If you can’t tell the difference between reality and tv,

that might not be so healthy, irl, you need not watch television.

to answer the posters question, no i dont consider it soft core porn, but i do think shows are inappropriate, and not to mention extremely repetitive. i mean, come on, how many shows about a group of bad actors/actresses raving around partying and having sex can we take? especially when thats all that happens in every episode!
what happened to substance?

Not all teenagers are so stupid to think they have to follow tv characters steps. The shows are fiction, so there is something alluring about watching them … because that stuff doesn’t happen in real life! Most of it anyway. So yeah, teens/young adults want to watch it.
I don’t care for any of the shows you named besides Gossip Girl, so I’m going to defend it by saying…the fashion on that show is about as classy as you can get. Yes there are a few sexy/love scenes where lingerie is involved. But for goodness sake, they go to a private school with uniforms and Chuck Bass wears full suits in every episode!
People need to stop being so close-minded.

those shows suck. i agree. i don’t have to watch them to know how bad they are. its the inherent nature of teen dramas.

well I read a study in a magazine article (I think it was seventeen, but I could be wrong) that said when teenagers watch shows like that frequently enough they are 30%/40% more likely to go out and do that stuff in real life.
So I guess there is some truth to this.
Personally though I hate all teenager shows and adult shoes because they are just stupid and not entertaining to me(unless their crime scene shows!)
which is why I love cartoons for although they are stupid it’s in a beneficial laugh-out-loud way.

Teenagers don’t tune in for that reason; they tune in because of good storylines and good actors. (:

You’re not a prude. I’m sick and tired of these teen-to-twenties shows myself (although, if you’re going to be talking about sex, I LOVE Grey’s Anatomy… does that count?
). There’s only so many high-school scandals you can take in a series. And I agree with you, there’s PLENTY of underage drinking going on and nobody seems to care about what their kids are watching.
Grey’s Anatomy and Ugly Betty for me! And The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, since you mentioned some shows from around that same time.
guest
it’s just television. stop assuming that everyone is so influenced by the media that they can’t differentiate between a television show (reality or not) and real life. teenagers aren’t stupid. i’m twenty one and just missed this trend of shows being popular for teens, but i watch them occasionally and i don’t know anyone that drinks/does drugs/has sex “because so and so off that show did it”.
honestly. have some faith in society, and parents shouldn’t be there to cut their children off from real life – even if you stop a child watching shows like this at home, they’ll watch it other places – friends houses, the movies, the internet. you can’t control someone’s life. stop acting like television shows are the root of all evil.
i think this post is pretty narrow-minded, to be frank.
guest
@Suppress_My_Love@xanga - ”disgusting thing to be viewed”? why is pornography disgusting? it’s simply the viewing of a completely natural process that takes place between people.
and i don’t think being exposed to that should be limited to any sort of age.
that’s just my opinion, though, and i can see if people are against it.
i’m not here to fight, ma’am.

I’m a strong Christian but I still watch these shows. Why? They’re amusing, and they help remind me of the reasons that I DON’T do that stuff. They’re funny if you remember that they are all over exaggerated, and while I agree that younger impressionable generations probably should not watch them, I don’t see any problem in a reasonably minded college student watching them.
guest
These shows are hardly soft core porn. Yes, they show teenagers partying & hooking up & having fun but when it comes to teenagers in reality, we have PARENTS. It’s their job, not the tv networks, to tell their kids right from wrong. To show them the difference between tv & reality. It’s not the media’s job to teach kids how to live their lives. Instead of pointing the finger & putting the blame on everyone else, we need to take responsibility for own actions. The teenage pregnancy toll has not spiked because of these shows, it’s because of stupidity & no education. & There’s also a point in time when you just, get over it. Not everything is going to please everyone. Don’t watch it & move on.
orchid / 179 posts
Oh, and True Blood is soft core porn. These shows don’t even show any body parts that you wouldn’t see while wearing a swimsuit anyway. Are you going to start boycotting swimming pools because everyone there dresses scantily?
guest
@positioningoranges@xanga - There’s definitely an age where you are to young to watch porn.
guest
what age is that? i’m not trying to just say shit to argue – i just don’t know how age limitation would work on that sort of thing.
shouldn’t it be limited to people with mindsets mature enough to fathom the material rather than a simply a number?
guest
wow, you make it sound like all of television is like that. youre so judgemental about what teens watch, not EVERYONE one is like that, yes there is a big amount but you can hardly blame them since theyve grown up with it, they unlike you arent settled with the fact that its wrong so you really cant complain about that.
guest
@Itinvolvedwhippedcream@xanga - uhh actually you see sex, boobs, and overall overrated stuff for tv, even for teens in true blood. if youve watched every episode you would know that. thats why its not a TEEN show, its for adults and on a channel that needs to be ordered/bought.
sunflower / 434 posts
Softcore porn? lol.
They don’t actually show private body parts on teen shows. They show them taking off the clothes to dramatic music, kissing romantically, and are always careful to censor off body parts.
I mean, they showed a penis on television in Sex and the City, but that is an adult show.
I really don’t think shows for teenagers can be considered porn. That being said, they do depict teens unrealistically. For example, on the Vampire Diaries, the underage characters are constantly getting drunk at parties and their parents are never home to make having sex awkward. Most people in college don’t even party that much.
guest
Speaking of teen pregnancy spiking, what is up with that show “The Secret Life of the American Teenager”? For one, its unrealistic, and secondly… it’s basically saying to teenage girls to get pregnant because their lives will be great! ._. I’ve never watched the show but my 16 year old sister and her friends talk about it so much that I might as well have been watching it religiously since it started. -.- It’s a shame what the media has come to….

I’m also a Christian, and a teenager, but I don’t particularly agree.
Sure, its true sex sells. I watch most of the show that you’ve mentioned and if you’ve sat down and watch any decent episode of the majority of these shows you’d see that your assumption is pretty flawed. They really don’t show any sex scenes or anything vaguely similar. Also, most of the underage drinking and partying that you mentioned above, happen quite frequently in reality, without the influence of these shows, so its not like any of it is new to teenagers. Its true, maybe we are a bit desensitized, but I think your overreacting. And I think you should also check your stats. There is no correlation between these tv shows and increasing teen pregnancies.
Nevertheless, your post was a good read.
guest
@misslei11@xanga - Maybe you should watch the show first. Its not quite the way you described it.
It might be unrealistic, but it is certainly NOT encouraging any teenager to get pregnant.
Also, her stats were incorrect. Check for yourself : http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/infosheets/infosheet_teen_pregnancy.htm

Oh and btw, I watch Gossip Girl and I enjoy it.

I agree. Most TV on is trashy because that’s what sells, unfortunately. I stopped watching some shows because the sex scenes were becoming too frequent and really irrelevant to the plot.
It’s not just TV though, I recently canceled some magazine subscription to a women’s fitness magazine because in every issue there was at least one mention of vibrators. The final straw was an issue that actually included a vibrator in a pictorial list of “must haves” and later in the magazine, an article mentioned that basically the majority of women have vibrators and if you don’t, you need to get over your hang ups and get one.
Disgusting. The world is going to Hell and enjoying every minute of it.

I don’t watch those shows, but I also know there’s a difference between reality and fantasy. These shows are fake. Maybe, if these shows are influencing kids and young people the wrong way, their parents should be having talks with them about what is and isn’t real. I had that talk with my parents when I was a very, very young kid, around 8, when I wanted to watch Nightmare on Elm Street. And I was old enough then to understand what my parents were telling me. Its sad if 12 year olds can’t understand that.
However, if you don’t approve of the shows and don’t like them, there’s no reason to watch them. This is something that is individually tailored, however. If you know your children and have talked to them, and yet they still don’t seem to get it, then by all means that is definitely a huge red flag to keep them AWAY from those kinds of shows. But, its an individual thing that each parent needs to figure out whether or not that’s necessary for their child.
I don’t disagree with you, though, there are a lot of shows targeted at teens and young adults that are really just not appropriate for their time slots.

Pssh, the only disturbing thing I know is ripped up bodies and hardcore gore, which I enjoy watching for a horror movie and all that, but okay, you can use it in the wrong way, whatever.
I have a feeling you’ve never fully enjoyed life WHATSOEVER, or you wouldn’t be so judgemental about this stuff. This is all for entertainment purposes, obviously. Teens are meant to do all the things they’re not supposed to do. It’s exciting and it’s THE life. It comes wih the best memories and the most memomable moments, no matter if they’re bad or not, that’s part of life and mistakes come along with it that obviously are there to make you stronger.

I totally agree with you. I will not watch any tv show (or movie) with any nudity/partial nudity and I’m almost 24. The only reason I can see for anyone to watch it is because they’re just as trashy as the people on the shows. Sex should be in the home and not in the movies, or in this case, on tv. I don’t think you’re over-reacting at all and I love it how these girls on here like to brag about watching hard core porn with their man which is really amusing that they don’t even care that their man is doing them and thinking of someone else while doing it
It may be 2010 and yes girls do dress up like sluts, it may be ACCEPTABLE to some people but that still doesn’t make it right.I wouldnt pay too much attention to some of the other posts …just look at who made them….

Soft core porn? You need to go to Europe or something.

@breaking_expectations@xanga - YEs they actually do sweetheart!!

I don’t watch these shows for that reason. Than again I’m 28 years old. And from what I could remember about the Original Melrose and 90210 they were all about sex as well. The only difference was that they were actual adults in one show and the other show..well…High Schoolers. Truth is many teenagers do that now.
My only thing is why are parents not doing anything about it?

I know right?

YES! Someone out there who shares my concerns about the way this world is going. Very well put and thank you for posting this. I’m 21 and it grosses me out that we feel like it’s ok to show this stuff to our teens and even pre-teens. I don’t care to watch it myself.

You are an utter idiot, I don’t know what else to say really other than that! If Gossip Girl’s softcore porn, i’m curious as to what you think hardcore porn is!

I agree with the title and that’s why it’s a shame. Everyone wants to act like it’s okay and yet so many teens are depressed and have no hope. Media should be used to inspire and help people, not lead them to places of pain and poor choices for stupid moments of “fun”
guest
@blackspiders@xanga - Yeah, but soft core or not it’s still bad tv. It offers kids ideas of social behavior and stereotypes. I think the very first Real World was the only one that dealt with issues and not hooking up/clothing. I seriously don’t see how Gossip Girl is helping anyone. I’m not trying to be mean but girls need help these days, not to hear Blair’s “problems”
I don’t like the embarassment shows, either. But sometimes the fact that they aren’t fictional can at least serve as a warning to viewers, esp. college kids making bad choices.

There have ALWAYS been teenagers who have sex and go out and get plastered.
The problem with shows like Dawson’s Creek, and the Original 90210 – was how blatantly unrealistic they were.
I don’t drink, I don’t have sex, I’ve never touched a drug in my life – many people I go to school with do.
None of the people who party like the kids on the shows have even seen Gossip Girl..
I however, do.
I find it a very realistic picture of what high school is like, if not a little glamorized for tv.
None of these shows have encouraged me to drink, go out and have sex, or do drugs – as much as being around highschoolers that do.

I’ve been watching shows like One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl since they started and it does not give me the urge to go out and party and have one night stands. There is punishment in the shows for the kids who do that, and the shows do bring up points like teenage pregnancy and why it may not be a good idea to have children at their age.
Yes, sex does appear in teenage shows, but it’s supposed to. Teenagers are obviously curious about sex and they’ll go out and have sex even if they have not seen the shows.
Soft-core porn shows would be more like E4 shows or HBO.

ummm you shouldn’t have said you were a Christian. Trust me. People would have tooken you ALOT more seriously if you didn’t involve your religion. Thats just how it is now. I see what your saying, but because you said you were a Christian, it changed the entire way i read what you wrote. Just leave that out next time
((ps im a christian to, and i KNOW how people react to that))
and i woulda totally disagreed with you about Gossip girl…up until he had that freaking 3some that coulda TOTALLY been left out. THAT pissed me off. N yeah that was softcore porn. Not that i have anything against porn even though i’m supposed to, it’s just that when i’m watching a SHOW, i want to watch a show and not porn. If i want to watch PORN, then i’ll watch porn and NOT a show xD But so far i have no more complaints about the media, except how grossed out i felt watching hillary duff in a threeome EW SHE’S UGLY I DONT WANNA SEE THAT.

The Inbetweeners, Skins, Sugar Rush… all of those shows have nudity in them, more so than gossip girl and all of that. Skins is pretty hardcore…. ok, VERY hardcore…and I love it haha. Guilty pleasure like shit.
@SignificanceOfTheMightyClit@xanga - ALL people do that, for that matter. shouldnt put it ALL on teenagers. STUPID comes in every age group.

another reason to hate TV?

Teenagers experimenting with drugs and alcohol because they saw it on
tv? Doubt it. Teenagers experiment cause that’s basically one of the
functions for your adolescence, in my humble opinion. Experimenting
with what you like, be it alcohol, drugs, sex… And that’s not just
nowadays. If I hear stories of parents of some of my friends… And
that was the 70s! Shock! And to add to it. I watch shows like that, but it’s never made me think, Hmm, let’s use drugs, have casual sex, booze all night and whatnot. I can pretty damn well decide for myself if I’m going to do those things. (Regardless, I still booze all night, but hey, it’s legal here, and it can be awesome)
I’m not saying you’re not entitled to your own opinion, but if you do
tell others about it, at least first look up the definition of soft
core porn before you make your piece less believable by making that comparison.

You know, I used to disagree with you. I thought that people aren’t mindless drones, that they can distinguish between reality and fantasy, and watching racy shows on TV isn’t going to affect them. I’ve changed my mind. People are mindless drones! ( LOL..just kidding, or not to that extent. ) It does affect people for this stuff to be pumped into their homes 24/7. It desensitizes people to casual sex, and violence, to the point where it is no longer shocking.
I’m not saying it should be illegal to show this kind of thing in movies, afterall we do have freedom in this country, but there need to be stricter guidlines for what is shown on T.V. ( essentially a public place ) if for nothing else than the sake of common decency.

i love gossip girl haha

people would not watch them unless there was a lot of sex and partying. thats whats popular and thats what (most )teenagers are doing. goodie two shoes are booooringgg. they just show this shit for ratings. money is all the tv producers care about, they dont care about how offensive it is.
dont get me wrong i soo miss boy meets world & shows like that but that just wont make money anymore.

@thisxemergencyx@xanga - I was referring to the other shows (Jersey Shore, Gossip Girl, etc) when I said that they don’t show things you wouldn’t otherwise see, not True Blood. I have watched every episode of True Blood, and I recognize the difference between the two categories. I supposed I phrased that comment awkwardly, my apologies.

@Itinvolvedwhippedcream@xanga - Oh, I was thinking “Is this girl crazy?! Has she even WATCHED True Blood?” LOL

@breaking_expectations@xanga - Exactly.

Uhm just because it’s on tv doesn’t mean it’s okay to do it haha. Your logic makes me laugh. I watch horror movies that doesn’t mean I think it’s okay to kill people.

I’ll be honest I didn’t read all of this but have you never seen soft core porn? They actually show naked breasts etc, these shows do not. and maybe you went to some highschool where everybody was an angel and didn’t drink or have sex or anything like that. I however, did not and these shows aren’t really that far off from the shit that actually goes on at that age. Also TV shows DO NOT cause kids to have sex and get pregnant or drink. Bad parenting does. People always blame tv and music and not the parents who are supposed to be the ones instilling values in their children. Kids can not watch these shows and still be curious about sex and drugs and drinking and if nobody talks to them about it then they are going to try it and perhaps get into trouble. When I was a kid there were things I couldn’t watch but my parents always sat down with me and explained right and wrong and that tv wasn’t reality. I was taught about safe sex and drugs are bad etc. Parents need to start taking responsibility for their role in raising children; and it’s completely stupid that I even have to say something that ridiculous. You can’t hide kids from the real world, because when they get into it they don’t know what to do, exposure and talking about it is a good thing! Cable tv isn’t evil, shitty parenting is.
