Meh, I don’t really have an opinion about this one. Are they harmless? Not at all. They are portraying these people as stereotypes. They’re picking all these specific characteristics out and filming them and turning people into something- something everyone else wants to watch. At the same time it’s entirely for entertainment, and if people are watching and they’re getting money then it makes sense for them to do that. Not going to catch me watching it, though.

mtv just happens to capture guidos in their natural state! it’s not their fault that guidos are acting like sstereotypical guidoes!

I think they’re just for entertainment.  I’m Italian and I’m not at all offended- there is no way I could ever take these people seriously, so I know no one else will.  Then again, that’s just me.

Also, I just want to say that I’ve never seen or heard of a freaking guido before in my life.  These people are TRULY entertaining.

It’s an MTV show, not a documentary. The only non-stupid MTV show is True Life and some episodes of Made, the rest is shit that isn’t worth taking seriously.

We are great a reinforcing negative things and terrible at holding up the positives to light.  We have issues as a general public, I think.

But I dont think I really have to watch it to say that stereotypes will never go away. As MTV moves further away from music the stupider they get. And people get really sensitive about things that they cant control.

and about latins, we are not all jlo style, im half mexican, im 5’2, very pale, i do have curves but not too much and yet i love them and my guy and friends love them as well, i dont like to party, i love EBM!!! i dont say papi o.O and i actually wear clothes that can cover me.

I think the only people who is taking that serious are the people who is in the shows and the stupid asses that wish there were in them.

So sad how people only stereotypes themselves.

I HATE IT. Usually people watch reality shows because they are pointless, but at least they have attractive people. Jersey Shore scores as both being stupid and ugly.

I’m Italian and I think it’s a little offensive…but unfortunately this show is pretty true to life.
I’m NOT saying all kids on the shore act like that but a lot do. They basically stereotype them self’s.

Jersey Shore is strictly for entertainment.. anyone who generalizes the entire Italian race because of it shouldn’t watch TV. Even though most italians are all about “italian pride” and all that annoying bullshit, I know not all italians tan themselves retarded and drink to no return. I’m watching the show right now hahaha

People get offended over everything, it was bound to happen.

If they didn’t pick the most stereotypical people possible, no one would watch the show.

Maybe if people don’t actually act like that, then they won’t do the stereotype. But alas, stereotypes can be funny so people just need to get a sense of humor.

Even if it is, I love it.

Personally, I’m from Jersey and I’m Black-Italian, and I mean, to some extent, I don’t really think its all that offensive.  I just think that its a retarded show, and its bullshit that MTV would choose to portray Jersey like this.  As for them promoting “guido-ness”, its a fucking lifestyle and the way that they choose to live and do their thing.  Its like doing a show with black people in it acting “ghetto.”  Obviously, everyone who watches the show isn’t going to think that all black people are ghetto, because if they do, then that person is a fucking idiot.  Just because a group of Italians act a certain, doesn’t mean that you should stereotype all of us.  Also, Italians aren’t the only ones who are “guido”.  There are Spanish people, Irish people, Black people, etc. who act guido, because like I said before, it’s a LIFESTYLE.

Also, only one person in that whole show is from Jersey.  So technically, that’s how New Yorkers act, so no one should be hating on Jersey or saying any nonsense like they’re glad that they arent from Jersey, because only one of the housemates is from Jersey.

It’s a stupid show, but judging from the “contestants” on the show, there are obviously people in existence who fit the stereotype! I’d be more worried about the state of New Jersey being offended. I’m not from Jersey, but I’m pretty sure that not everyone in the state is like these losers.

People need to get over it! One most “reality” shows are mostly scripted, they are real but PLAYED UP so NOBODY can or should get upset by how a group of people is shown on a reality show as those on the show are the ones giving that group the bad name.
And whether people like it or not stereotypes are there for a reason, because MOST people of that group fit that stereotype. Don’t like the stereotype you are in, then change who the world perceives you and your group and you yourself need to NOT act like the stereotype.
And beside, anyone with common sense or half a brain knows two basic facts, while stereotypes exist because they fit the majority of a group that doesn’t mean that everyone who is of the group fit that stereotype. And two, not everything that happens on a reality show is 100% true, it is edited and the people on it play it up for the best footage and ratings.

I hate MTV. I hate all of their shows; they’re all pointless and usually have nothing but whiny stuck up rich kids. There isn’t even any music on this channel whatsoever. Fuse is 5487469847 times better. I want an actual music channel. There are too many reality TV channels.

Honestly, it’s too trashy NOT to watch.  I would hope anyone with at least half a brain could recognize that’s not how all Italian-Americans act.  I think it makes people from New Jersey look worse than Italians.

its a show portraying a stereotype, i dont think of it as everyone from jersey is like this, or everyone that is a Italian is like this. Its definitely shows me that these self-proclaimed “guidos” act like this. Its kind of like people who diss southern CA because of what they see on The Hills, when in actuality most of us arent bimbos that are fake. 

The people getting offended are probably losers that get called guido all the time and just haven’t accepted it yet.

My main concern is that I live on the Jersey shore. And I don’t know any guidos… None of my friends are guidos, I’m not a guido. It makes the shore look trashy. It’s not. It’s a beautiful place to live with a tight knit community… I don’t know why it upsets me, but it totally does.

It happens every summer! They flock down from new york invade our beaches, pump their fists to techno music and get wasted on the beach! THEY ALLL LOOK THE SAME! The guys love themselves more than they”’ ever love another woman, besides their mom of course. And for the girls, they are fake as they come. Not to mention their annoying attitudes and their accents.
im Italian bu im not trashy like the show portrays them. I respect myself, i may have a little accent since my family was raised in manhattan, NY but not the extent of a Long Island Accent. ANd unlike snooki, i respect my body.
I find this show very offensive to my culture, my state, my beaches, and to the young teenagers absorbing this trashy shit. As if kids needed to see more sexual activity on TV to brainwashing them into thinking having sex with everyone is OK.

haha there has been WAY too much controversy over this show. My Italian boyfriend is offended by this how and hates the stereotypes. But, I’m from Jersey and I find it hilarious! So I guess it depends on who you are whether or not you find it offensive.

those stereotypes are harmful only if people believe that the show is an accurate representation of the people at the jersey shore. otherwise, it’s just another trashy reality show. no big deal.

Yeah, it probably is offensive to some people, but not to me– I would totally watch it if I got MTV.

I’ve heard this subject come up recently on talk shows and news broadcasts. It’s nothing different from the Real World, drunken hook-ups, clubbing and grinding…I don’t see the controversy. I don’t think anything is targeted directly to “guidos”. There are plenty of people out there that act the way they do. 

It is such a small percentage of who actually goes to the Jersey Shore that it is offensive to New Jerseyans…most people who go to “the shore” which I hate calling it that, it is just the beach, haha, are not like that. It is a stupid, ridiculous, offensive show.

Call it Guido Life or something like that, lol.

Do they have to use the word Guido to describe themselves? I find it offensive that they have to have the Italian flag or colors everywhere. Do they want people to think that’s how young Italian-Americans are suppose to act?

I live on the Jersey Shore and absolutely no one acts/looks/talks like them. It doesn’t bother me like it does everyone else – I find it hilarious.

I’ve never been there, and whenever most of us here think of Jersey it’s poor housing and dirty people.
This TV show just makes Jersey Shore look ten times worse than how most originally thought. Meh :/

I don’t watch the show but I think the tiny fat one with the Amy Winehouse attempted hairstyle is cute in the sense that a tiny grandma is cute. It also wouldn’t work if she were tiny and thin so I hope the media doesn’t try to pressure her into losing weight. . . she would lose all of her appeal lol. Is that a weird thing to say? I don’t know. I just thought I would put that out there.
