For America: Bad president for most of this decade.. we have yet to see the decisions of the new president

 the death of michael jackson comes into mind…

i think the war in iraq and the worst recession in 25~ years would define this decade.

The boom of new technology, fashion that was copied from other decades, the death of many icons, and the time in which there has been huge shifts in the world in terms of politics and economics.

I’m looking forward to this insanity.

The change the world went through after 9/11. the “war on terror”, the great recession…

I think we also see less… censorship, I guess is the word for it? scary movies are just about gore gore gore more blood plz, sexy outfits show next to nothing…. yeahhh.

no creativity, just newer interpretations of past eras. first black president. this century will probably be dedicated to the fight for gay marriage.

I was writing a huge comment that made me realize that this cannot be encapsulated into a small box right away. The subject is much too broad. There’s just too much about music, technology, TV, fashion, current events/history to be written about.

Music – We’ve gone from all that neo-soul, adult rock, and crunk to electronic music that’s unapologetic in its use of auto tune, scene image or pop punk songs, and now a country-laced pop industry.
Technology – Boom of social networking, wi-fi
TV – Boom of reality TV, sitcoms for kids, and apocalyptic dramas
Fashion – Our near hypothermia-inducing winter wear and hipster/scene/emo trend
Current events/history – Young Voters movement, gay rights movement, increased (and maybe slightly capitalized) awareness of the environment, world affairs, economic crisis, and more.

Well, the world is ending in 2012 anyway so unless you already have children, you might not see your grandchildren XD

But in all honesty, probably 9/11, Obama winning after that APE, Ipod’s/technology in general. The fashion doesn’t really stand out because like it was said before, we’re really  just copying other generations. Maybe skinny jeans and UGG boots. We should probably work on the fashion.

Trends, fads, and fashions tend to go on +-20 year cycles, so that’s nothing new. Sheer panels were first featured in the 1970′s flop film, “So Fine”, so that’s nothing new.

The 50′s had a fad of sorts of preparing fallout shelters; the current stockpiling of supplies is nothing new.

We leaped from 13 channels of crap on the television to choose from to 50+ channels – only for people to pick up VCRs. This generation kicked it up to better than 500 channels,only for the folks to switch to internet.

“Famous for being famous” and reality-TV stars are just an offshoot from yesteryear’s Star Search and Gonzo reporting – only on a more ridiculous scale.

Kids who wanted to be musicians now, instead of wanting to learn musical instruments, would rather master the higher levels of Rock Band and Guitar Hero.

Bootlegged 45′s switched to tapes, then to downloading.

Every generation has seen its disenfranchised youth.

Every generation has been, at some point, touched by war.

Every generation has attempted to reach out to either startle, shock, or scare its predecessors.

I think what sets this generation apart is that it is more Aware than any previous generation of current events; all the kids of this generation are long accustomed – even immune – to being photographed, recorded, read, labeled, sorted, and filed. Surveillance is a way of life.

This generation is more in tune with global events – and the general global economy. Backroom deals, cover-ups, scandals, misplaced facts, and skewed statistics are being more carefully scrutinized than ever before. The internet rarely – if ever – forgets – and, when one image, paragraph, misspoken sentence, or video is pulled from the internet, someone is more than certain to have a copy of it somewhere.

That, and Crocs, Uggs, Damaged Disney kids and the re-emergence of androgynous males [reflection of Victorian-era "dandies"] as mainstream.

I have to agree blogs and the internet coming into play. I think that will be the biggest story. There have all ways been scandal’s all over.

Revival of other past fashions, recession, wars, united states were the most powerful, black president, music/fashion going wacky, vampire crazes, weird sicknesses spreading like ten, internet/technology becoming common everywhere, global warming

facebook. it sucks in everyones souls. the lack of social interaction among young children. :/ food additives and corporations controlling things more than ever.

I don’t know there really is a lot they could write about. The economy, the fashion, the music etc.

This decade made sleaziness,judgmentalism and criticism popular. This decade is over obsessed with superficialities, the way people look and etiquette. It’s a decade that I will remember as the one with the least humanity (or humility) of all. It’s a decade obsessed with a persons standing in society (celebrities, in other words, fame), sexuality and money. I will not miss this decade.
