poor foxes… I would never buy a bag like that. not that I’m a PETA member or anything, but it seems so senseless to take a fox tail that is just for decoration.  I wear leather and sheep skin jackets, but next to looking hot they provide warmth during cold days.  A fox tail on purse does nothing!!

@purple_cuts@xanga - I was just thinking the exact same thing! I just did a simple google search, and some [biased, I bet, sources] say that animals raised for fur have to be killed in crueler fashions to preserve the integrity of the fur.
Leather comes from cows and such that are already being killed for food, so it’s more of a “by product.”

But those people who are so disgusted by fur shouldn’t be really wearing leather or eating meat if they’re really going to take that “holier than thou” track.

I know I have at least a few leather purses, let alone a couple pairs of shoes made with leather/suede. One may argue that leather is not wasteful because the cow was killed anyway for food, but the cow still had to die anyway to be their hamburger or steak. I think if people are going to bitch about leather they should stop eating the meat or shut up because that cow died regardless if they’re against leather jackets.

As far as her purse, it seems like a waste of money. And are they seriously making that many? Shit, it’s not really that cute. But as far as fur goes, I like to keep in mind that, historically, people have used fur for warmth for ages. Nowadays, we don’t need to resort to animal fur, and I can’t see its function on that bag other than decoration. That being said, I’m not about to go all apeshit about some vapid, super-wealthy former Spice Girl buying a bag with a fox tail. It’s sad that the foxes are dead, but life goes on.

Eh.. it looks like a poorly placed oversizedkey chain. I don’t care if people use animals for decoration like that. I go to leather stores around town to buy tails and heads and bones and things for making my jackets look more “mad max” style. Normally the foxes are restricted hunting and the hunting normally influences the environment for the better. This depends on the country, of course.

I don’t see why you would use real fox tails especially when there are such good faux recreations I don’t see why it’s necessary.  As for the person who asked if people wear leather, well, you use a lot more of the animal when you wear leather, this is just the tail of the fox.  There isn’t really a market for any other parts of the animal.

I really could care less if people wear fur.  It’s their choice.  What makes fur so different than say snake skin, ostrich skin, alligator etc?  The bag is hideous.  I would never carry it even if I could afford it.  I’ve owned fur before and would do so again if I move some where cold enough and I see a coat that I like.

In general I think it’s already an ugly purse but adding the foxtail just made it worse. I believe animals were put on this earth to feed us, not for us to wear. We have so many choices in clothing/purse material it’s really not nessecary to use animals for it. I’m not some huge anti-animal fur activist or anything like that either. I just wouldn’t buy anything with real fur & no, not leather either. I think it’s almost tacky.

Animals raised for meat [and leather] are also raised in horrible conditions [unless you buy organic].  On the other hand, I bet it’s not impossible to find sources of fur that’s raised well and killed humanely.

Well, first of all, it looks retarded on a bag.
I don’t wear fur, I don’t even really like wearing foux fur, but sometimes I make exceptions.
My friend, Holly, on the other hand, loves fur (mostly because it’s fluffy) and has purchased two tails.  One was a racoon tail, the other a silver fox.  Granted my friend is into anime and some cosplays call for tails so it wasn’t that odd.  Also, Renesaissance Festivals sell them, and people dressed in garb will wear them there, too.  I still think it’s weird, but at least these costume-wearers are wearing the tails as an accent to their body, not their handbag.
I don’t agree with it, per se, but I guess in these respects I can see it’s purpose?  I don’t agree with hacking off a tail and attaching it to a designer bag, though.  Animal body parts are not key-chains…

While I don’t see eye to eye with a lot of things with animal rights activists, this is something I can. Fur for fashion is HORRIBLE. Using the hide of an animal you aren’t planning to eat is also bad, in my book. I realize people love their furs, but I much rather it be from animals are dead because of reasons beyond “just to get their fur”.

*I realize this is a ridiculous comment, but I remember when they had to shoot all those tigers (the image still haunts me) in Ohio and I said (and people gasped) that they might as well make rugs or something out of them, auction them to rich people who have Cruella de Vil taste, and then donate the money toward a legitimate zoo and any funds needed to petition for stricter laws in the keeping of animals. Brilliant right?
