If you listen to the clip, I think it’s pretty apparent that she’s not trying to be offensive – she just can’t speak (and hence, cannot sing either).

Not a Miley fan, but I can’t imagine her saying ‘gay’ as an insult on purpose. It just doesn’t seem appropriate, and with all the criticism she gets it doesn’t just seem plausible.

Why should it matter? She’s just another disney star turned pop robot, who will probably lose her moment in the spotlight in about a year or so. Unless she makes a sex tape.. let’s hope she doesn’t.

Must people always have to be bitching about everything she does?  I’m by no means a true Miley fan or anything like that, but I think the girl gets more scrutinized than she should be.  Give the girl a break.  So, she made a mistake.  Oh well.  It’s not the first time someone has.  Also, as much as I agree with the idea that people should not use “gay” as a word for something that is bad, people should stop being so hypersensitive about it.  The English language has so many words that have taken so many different meanings that sometimes it’s hard to keep track of what we all are really saying…  Just my opinon; take it, or leave it.

I think it was either an accident or maybe she really just said it in a way that made the end of the word “game” drop off like you suggested.

However, if she did it on purpose, it shouldn’t surprise anyone. She’s a teenager and most teenagers do use the word “gay” as saying something is lame or bad. And while it is insulting and it isn’t something someone should do, she’s not the first teenager to do it if she did. And she probably does when she’s just talking with her friends alone and nobody else is around.

And yes, I know. She’s an entertainer and a role model to young girls, and she shouldn’t be promoting the use of such a word in such an insensitive way. However, truthfully, it doesn’t help or hurt that she said it. Mostly because, kids have been saying it for a lot longer than I’ve ever heard of her. If we’re going to get outraged that she did it, we are going to have to get outraged about every single kid, famous or just the kid next door, does it and we’d have to speak out against them too. No, they aren’t famous. But, a child’s peers have just as much of an impact on what they say and how they act and how they view issues as a famous role model does.

Do I think its right if she said it on purpose? No. But, like I said, if we’re gonna make an issue out of it, we have to make sure to speak out loudly to each and every kid that does it, individually, whenever we hear it, or to their parents, too. Because, while its insensitive and rude and insulting for her to say it, especially while singing, if she did so intentionally, I don’t think its going to cause the word “gay” to be used in that context any more often. Just like if she hadn’t said it, it wouldn’t make it any less popular to say it.

Considering how many people rag on her for every tiny little thing she does, though, it doesn’t surprise me and shouldn’t surprise anybody else when she does something unpopular or something that practically everyone might deem as inappropriate. :p

Its always hard to tell what people are saying (or singing, whatever) at live shows, so I don’t know really, but when you’re with Disney, you’re supposed to be good little robots, so I highly doubt it.

Then, I read the story of Eleven-year-old Jaheem Herrera, dead by suicide. I figured it was time to speak out and wrote back in April. I’ve also been the annoying one in parties who corrects these “figures of speech”.

Now, Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana and “most” current Disney brats irritate me in general – I’ll make no bones about saying that much. What did her song say? I have no clue, but her bouncing about the stage, and the tendencies of most lesser-skilled musicians of blurring their enunciation naturally makes the confusion easy to make.

I believe that neither she nor her contractual agreements, nor her father’s contractual agreements, would allow for such a potentially dividing statement to be sung.

That aside – drop any other potentially dividing word into place – one of denigration to any other race, color, religion, or nationality – and you’d initially begin with a startled moment, then a flinch, and, over a period of time, it would wear on you.

Just a matter of manners. I would call it accidental. And even if it wasn’t, it’s really not pronounced enough to worry about. As much as I dislike Miley Cyrus, this issue really isn’t reason enough to freak out over.

gay is slang for a lot of things…. including homosexual so how can you get mad if slang is being used improperly because it’s improper in the first place. It’s like getting uspet that f*cked is being used to mean both sex and messed up… among other things
