For the pint-sized third-wave feminist in your life, pick up the Riot Grrl Halloween costume.
If you were too young to remember (*whimper*), riot grrl was a 90′s punk movement that brought out feminist literature and awesome bands like Sleater-Kinney and Bikini Kill. But I’m not sure what this costume is supposed to represent. It looks more like
an intergalactic army pirate.
Do you understand this costume? Would you wear it (if it came in larger sizes, of course)?

ROFL zomg its bowser from Mario!

I don’t know if I understand it – and I don’t know if I want to. If this is the “face” of feminism… I’m more of a traditionalist than I thought! Yikes!
guest
I was def around during the 90s but still don’t remember this.
Oh yeah… I forgot I wasn’t living in the States the first half of the 90s. Then it took a year or two for my English to solidify and my tastes to switch to American lol.

@ShimmerBodyCream@xanga - LMAOOOO. now that you mention it, I definitely can see the resemblance.
guest
i was thinking that it was a punk or rock star girl?
ranunculus / 3457 posts
Doesn’t look very riot grrl to me.
guest
So the 90s was an actually recognized era to be making costumes out of? Really?
guest
Misfits rated G.

i like how there’s two r’s and no i’s in grrl.
guest
nope, never, thats just weird
daisy / 693 posts
lol that is so weird you can only get away with it on halloween
guest
Nope, don’t understand it and nope wouldn’t wear it. I was alive during the 90s and I most certainly don’t remember this.
guest
Cute girl.
sunflower / 294 posts
LOL, kinda cute.
dahlia / 2942 posts
I’m glad at least that it’s not slutterific.
guest
lol, that’s great!
For some reason, my thoughts went straight to Good Charlotte’s Riot Girl song… But, however, I do not understand the costume and I wouldn’t wear it.
I was a fan of Bikini Kill though.
guest
I think this is more Avril Lavigne/Hot Topic riot grrl. A true riot girl would look nothing like that.
guest
Intergalactic army pirate FTW!
The costume=ridiculous but the description is fantastic.
cherry blossom / 43 posts
not ok! especially not for a child.
guest
shes a rebel. thats all it means. she doesnt dress like everyone else, is non-conformist, and she doesnt care who sees her. i believe its making fun of the modern day rebel
guest
@stuipdthing@xanga - lol true.
guest
ha ha ha ha…
guest
“intergalactic army pirate” = win.
guest
:/
guest
methinks this doesn’t do the bikini kill era justice.
rebel girl, you are the queen of my world. <3
daisy / 743 posts
lol. I wouldn’t even bother looking at it.
guest
oh, i love the riot grrl movement (and the bands that came with it)!!! but i’m not sure this costume’s got it quite right. =/
i wish i was around to be apart of it. =[ sadly i am too young.
orchid / 227 posts
What happened to little girls = cute and innocent?
guest
errrrr.
guest
i dress like that lots of the time xD
just way better and not that bad xD
guest
@XnoXsunlightX@xanga - agreed
guest
it’s totally loli-goth!!
considering how obsessed my younger cousins are with manga, i’m surprised there aren’t more costumes like this LOL
(why they’re claiming it’s riot grrrl i have no idea!)
guest
its cute for kids, if I wanted to do something like that for Halloween I wouldn’t buy the costume though I would make my own
guest
I could make a better riot grrl outfit with the shit in my closet
guest
“intergalactic army pirate” LMAO
no i wouldn’t wear this because i don’t know what that is… born in ’91, sorry
sunflower / 420 posts
KICK ASS LOL, If a kid showed up at my door wearing that I would give her EXTRA candy.
guest
well, I wouldnt wear it.and if I had a daughter, I wouldnt let her either. But still, its quite “different”
orchid / 127 posts
Not okay for a little girl!!! Little girls are suppose to dress up a princesses and fairies and such….ahhhh.
guest
It doesn’t look very Riot Grrl to me either. I am not sure what the giant spikes are about. The dress does look like something I would have worn in 1992. Considering I can wear a child size XL, if it was the only costume in the store and I just had to have a costume, I would wear it.
guest
??
guest
no.
and i do not understand it.
guest
Okay?
tulip / 17 posts
that is just the other end of sluttiness, the opposite. Either one is not cool
guest
Why would you want to dress up in something that makes you look like you hate your life, unless of course you really do. That is just hilarious though.
guest
I probably wouldn’t wear something like this.
rose / 960 posts
frekkin adorable kid.
lmao.
guest
It looks too gaudy.
guest
That is downright stupid, and I like the whole Riot Grrl thing.
daisy / 556 posts
I certainly would, I don’t see anything wrong with it for any age. Although I’d probably wear tights, because my legs would get cold!
But, it looks like some kind of anime-type character’s outfit to me. But, maybe I’ve just been watching too much anime. :p
guest
yes i understand the costume. It’s supposed to be more along the lines of the Punk/goth movement, not the actual riot girl movement, in the sense that it’s a girl “rebelling”… which apparently is what most teens or kids do when they go punk, goth, scene or emo… and no, i wouldn’t wear it, i prefer my actual punk and goth clothing to some mainstreamed (in a different sense) piece.
guest
@SeitekiChibiNeko@xanga - that is NOT loli goth. i seriously think you should consider doing extensive research into the true japanese lolita subculture…. seriously….
guest
It kind of disturbs me to see a little girl wearing this.
guest
girls i know dress like this to school. O____o yeah, it’s not pretty.
orchid / 103 posts
i’ve never heard of this.
magnolia / 1354 posts
hahaha…now that’s just stupid. I wouldn’t wear it.
guest
o0o0 i could use those spikes to make a chung li costume!!
guest
No. They shouldn’t market costumes like that to kids, really.
guest
this is NOT riot grrl. i’ll take my ripped up punk t-shirt, jeans, and docs kthnx…
this costume is pathetic… haha. and “intergalactic army pirate” = accurate description.
guest
lmao at the spikes
guest
LOL wtf!
that’s all I have to say to that:)
guest
well i was born in the 90s so i don’t remember much :/
but yeah..i guess…i dressed up as Axl Rose this year so i probably would dress up like that. but…i’d get a pair of pants first
guest
the hair bows remind me of the flintstones
the boots are really what made me tilt my head in confusion
hahaha oh my god
guest
I would not wear this, but only because it seems unnecessary.
