How to Dress Like a Librarian

I’m a librarian. It’s a cool job! And though most librarians don’t fit all the stereotypes (I don’t shush people, I don’t wear my hair in a bun, I don’t want to drag unsuspecting men off to the stacks and have my way with them….well, most of the time), there’s definitely some cool ways to incorporate the “librarian” look into your style.

First, and most essential, you’re going to need a hot pair of eyeglasses.

If you already wear glasses, get your next pair in a nerdy, dark frame. If you are blessed with 20/20 vision, first of all, I hate you. But you can pick up a pair of faux frames at places like Urban Outfitters. Make sure to lower the frames and stare sexily over them if you need to wink at that cute boy using the microfilm reader.

Second, put your hair into a cute updo.

Any kind of bun or French Twist, or even a low ponytail, will give you that sophisticated aura. You can also add bobby pins like Diane Kruger. For extra librarian charm, stick a pencil through your bun!

As far as clothing, choose an outfit that’s feminine yet polished. Button-down shirts are a good choice, paired with a pencil skirt (so sexy!) and stilettos. For something less overt, try tights and leggings with an A-line skirt and boots. A blazer with a scarf also tops off an academic look. Don’t forget some vintage jewelry – cameo brooches are perennially chic.
