When I was in middle school in the mid-90′s, the line between popularity and nerddom was sharply delineated, and it was this: Tommy Hilfiger Jeans.
Hilfiger’s brand became all the rage with his signature preppy red-and-white logo and then his ubiquitous perfume Tommy Girl, which all the cool girls reeked of as they strutted through the science lab in their Tommy Jeans.
But Tommy seemed to have just as quick a falling-out with the fashion world,
and now I haven’t seen a pair of Tommy jeans in years! Occasionally I’ll see some merchandise on the racks at TJ Maxx or Marshalls, betraying its former it-girl status with a gloomy 70% off sticker. Maybe Tommy is still big in countries besides the U.S.?
Do you wear anything Tommy? Have you seen anyone wearing it in recent memory?
