Read the books, actually enjoyed them & just watched the first episode of the series on Thursday and was not dissapointed, will for sure be something I will be watching every week.

i think its great, Not like twilight. Everyones just saying that , but twilight is gay. They don’t sparkle. They actually look scary when they turn into a vampire. Well , not that scary , but their eyes transform into something a monster would have. It is soo much betetr than twilight . i recommend it

I saw the first episode last night and loved it.  I have my guesses about where it’s going… probably a few new vampires being made.

well basing from the movies twilight i think i’ve had enough of these vampire movies/shows. after twilight i was very disappointed.the books are always better. 

Already read the series. The writing is ok, but the main character seems really immature (and I believe her age is on the younger side, as well.) She’s really caught up in popularity and getting whatever she wants. I enjoyed reading it. Doubt I’ll be watching the show anytime soon.

Even if it does seem like this show is riding on the coattails of Twilight, it really isn’t. The show is based on a series of books published over ten years ago. 

I would read the books.

I would just like to say I read these books like 7 years ago, and they were okay. But the only reason it’s being made into a tv series is because of the Twilight Craze. So basically…LAME.

I don’t remember reading the books (I was too young then), but for some reason the storyyline is very very familiar to me (beyond the stereotypical vampire novel stuff), so maybe I did read them.  I watched the first episode, it definitely didn’t make me anticipate the rest of the season.  The girl was really pretty though.  Did anyone else find it really creepy how the Stefan character was so into the girl?  I mean, they could’ve been a little more subtle with that…

No. It friggin sucks. It’s lame as fuck. I wrote a character profile for another role player, his vampire was so drab I couldn’t stand it. I can post the background info here. It’s not my character, therefore I left it sketchy and unfinished for a reason.

History: Nixon appears to be a normal, intelligent, charismatic young man. He is somewhat cold with people, having learned that humans are the most greedy and devious of all creatures. However, the name ‘Nixon’ is merely an alias he goes by. His true name is Nostorous. The name Nosporatu is false. It was created just for the use of Hollywood movies. In fact, that name was derived from Nixon’s real name. His name was given to him after the Battle of the Gods. He achieved this dreaded name by the ruthless way he killed his enemies. Seizing them by the neck and devouring their eternal life. His name once spread fear across the entire universe. The only one who reigned over him in power was his father, ‘Cronis’. His father’s name is the true word for cruelty. Where as, his son’s name, means notorious. Nostorous has been alive since the dawn of time. He was there when the world was born from flame and water. He was there when the God’s took their rightful thrones. He was there when he was cheated out of his Seat of power in Hell by his own father. His father, the ultimate cruel and ruthless being, is the source of all evil in the universe. From his father comes death, famine, and disease. When he walks on the soil of the living, he takes the form of the way a certain group of people perceive him. In ancient times in Egypt, he was worshiped as Anubis. In Greece, he was Hades. Across the rocky soils of Europe, he was known and feared as Satin. Nostorous served his father like that of a slave upon land for many many centuries. He was sent to do his father’s bidding, only being able to return home during daylight. 
Forced to walk amongst filthy humans night after night took it’s toll on the prideful demon. In a fit of rage, Nostorous planned to punish his father, and force his own will upon him. While his father slept, he summoned him upon human soil. He threw the dazed lord onto the stone floor of a Catholic Cathedral, and doused him with blessed wine. The wine burned his flesh, melting away his left eye, and leaving his beautiful face marred. His screams of agony could be heard throughout all of the universe, forcing it’s inhabitance to fall to their knees and cover their ears. The young demon made a terrible mistake, allowing his pride to believe he could take on someone so powerful. With a burning shadowy hand, the immortal ruler reached into the young demon’s body. He cursed him into oblivion, he stole away almost all of the young one’s precious powers, even his feared aura. Nostorous could no longer return to his home. Without his aura, he could no longer enter. And instead of killing him off, Cronis left his son to suffer for all eternity. Even without all his powers, Nostorous still possessed enhanced abilities. Such as sight stronger than that of a Hawk’s. The ability to smell blood like a shark. Being able to travel from place to place at the speed of sound. Control over she wolves. Mind control, manipulation of blood. ( Meaning he can control someone’s body by moving their blood. It’s not harmful, but is extremely painful for the person being controlled. ) And his most precious power.. controlling flames at will. But not even that could keep him from the stench and rot of old age. Forcing his pride away.. the demon lord fed upon the blood of the living like he did in battle. People became so frightened, they gave him a name. Vampire. He is the creator of all ‘Vampires’, even Dracula himself. Though he did not get his rightful throne, he rules over the other Vampires.. his creations upon human soil. No creature on earth dares to challenge him. His creations, though having free will, hold Nostoruos in a state of awe, almost to the extent of worship. Even without most of his powers.. he is invincible. His creations know this. Sadly, the demons of the underworld mock him. He is but a shell of who he once was. A parasite. 

The friggin end. I would write a novel, outselling twilight with countfagula, but im lazy.

You can get the books on amazon pretty cheap, and of course the library! A lot of times if you ask for a specific book/series, they’ll get it in. Mine does anyway. 

I heard it was a good vampire book series but I bet the CW are making it into a show to cash into the Twilight phenomenon..even though they say its not going to be like Twilight….look at the main character vampire guy! He looks very similar to a certain actor…. Robert?
Also the girl was supposed to be blond in the series right? But I wonder why they made her brunette in the show….hmmmm.

I used to be a huge vampire fan.  Now, I want to shoot every single show/movie writer who decides to do a vampire movie in the heart with silver the next time they make a show about another “effing” vampire book.  Twilight was terrible, and I refuse to touch the books.  I tried reading the first page and had to put it down because my horrible writing gag reflex had started to kick in. I don’t even want to see True Blood, I’ve stopped reading the Anita Blake novels because the last good one was Narcissus in Chains, and any other vampire book I’ve dared attempting to read just has been a bit lack luster.  

The next time I want a good vampire novel to sink my teeth into, I’ll just re-read Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Okay, Stefan is one hot maaaan. Just look at that face! He beats Robert Pattinson is every category! Ooooh snap, did I just say that? Actually, I shouldn’t really compare the two since Twilight is just… wack.
I’ve watched the series, it’s okay. The books are better (aren’t they always?) but every time Stefan comes on that screen, I blush a little *fangirl moment*

i watched it twice(which i had nvr done w/ any episodes ever) and LOVED it seriously esp hw it ended w/ the sentimental lines and “Never say never” played in the background.<3

Twilight and Vampire Diaries, meh, didn’t work for me.

This spawning of teen vampire/mortal girl romance crap is not vampire literature. I’m sick of all of this vampires can be good and find redemption and love crap.

I read the books, and wasn’t too happy with the first episode. I’m going to continue to watch it, though because it’s vampires (which I had loved for as long as I can remember), sometimes a series can improve, and it’s not like I’m doing anything else Thursday nights

Eh. I read the book outlines on wikipedia, and it sounds like another highschool love triangle story. I wish girls in books would pick just one guy and stick with it. “I love you. No wait, I love him. No, I love you again.” Getting old. But, the guy playing as Stefan is easy on the eyes.

I watched the first episode. I’m used to watching Nina Dobrev, the girl that plays Elena, on Degrassi (The Next Generation), and I’ve always been really annoyed by her character. Because of this, I’m somewhat biased against her new character =x.

You know how it is. Once a craze starts, everyone wants to cash in. I’m a Rice-head and Stroker gal, however. I’ll have none of this Twilight/Vamp Diaries/True Blood/Insert Vampire show here stuff. Maybe it’s because when I was growing up, we had shows like Buffy and movies like Blade and Dracula and so forth. And for me personally, I just can’t see a vampire sparkling….EVER. I’m sorry that just makes me go  all day long.

Maybe I will give True Blood a try as it seems to be on a sane level. But since the CW has been flopping left and right with their shows, I know good and well that I will not be watching their little Twi rip off. That’s what it looks like to me. Enough with the teen shows!

I’ve read these books and I don’t think the series will be able to live up to it. Seriously.

I loved the series when I read it (but that was years ago).  I still love L.J. Smith, so I support the t.v. series so far.  It’s not bad, but I don’t know how far they’ll stretch the romance and shrink the action.  We’ll see.  I’ll be glad to take a break from the raunchiness of True Blood, haha.

As for the show…LAME! I admit I love Twilight (not crazy love like some girls, I just really enjoyed the books and I’ll watch the movies for fun) and have gotten hooked to TrueBlood thanks to my bf who has HBO haha (and I want to read the books now). But that about draws the line, I like these stories, but I can only handle so much vampire romance/action stuff before it just gets old

I watched the first episode. It was awful. A  poor attempt at fusing true blood with twilight only even more boring.

gosh. fuck all of this ridiculous vampire nonsense. if this show sounded even remotely unique, i wouldn’t be so harsh. but it’s just same plot after same plot and frankly i’m so sick of it. the only way this and twilight could get any worse is if one of the characters had a pet bunnicula.

I would definitely read the book, this is the first I’ve heard of it! Next time I have money for extras like books, I might try to pick up the first one.

I am not a fan of books made into movies or television shows, because generally…well they butcher the books in favor of the more special-effects-friendly stuff and whatever else they feel is more fun to look at.

But, regardless of that, I would try the television show, too. Only because I can’t say I don’t like something if I haven’t tried it. I hate the Harry Potter movies (love the books!), but I watched the first and second movies. I thought they were seriously lacking, and I boycotted the third movie on principle (hairless werewolf?! Seriously?? I don’t care why the director did it, it was ridiculous!). But, I did watch the fifth movie, and I liked only the part where they showed Young Snape in the flashback. It’s just that I noticed such glaring errors. Wrong characters giving the wrong lines, some characters left out completely and their lines or actions given to an entirely different character, some characters that played semi-important roles completely left out, many important scenes left out in favor of lesser scenes that are more special-effect-friendly, the list goes on and on!

However, if they don’t do that to the Vampire Diaries TV show, I can see myself liking it. :p I am a big fan of vampires! Lol! :p

I say, watch True Blood instead.  Best.Show.Ever.

It is so stupid that everyone assumes everything is copying Twilight. I am a huge twilight fan, but COME ON. these books have been out longer. so what if they decided to make it a show just because vampires are popular right now? that’s not a bad thing.

Plus next month Cirque Du Freak is coming out in theatres! and that series of books was started way before Twilight as well and people are trying to say it’s a rip off too.

The vampire phenomena began with Interview With The Vampire (Anne Rice) and World of Darkness (Whitewolf ‘aka’ Vampires of the Masquerade). Then in the late 90′s started what we call ‘the vampire kids’ which was mostly a trend spawned from the gothic scene. Then vampire basterdization started with Blade, Underworld and finally the infamous Twilight! Twilight sparked what is now ‘Vampire Mania’ which is likely to go for some years and then die out as another wasted preppy trend of fakeness (which started with Kelly Osbourne and continued with Avril)!

Christ… Hollywood is such a parasitic embarrassment to themselves. That whole “Strike while the iron’s hot” mentality is bullshit. No one’s got enough cajones to take any real risks on new ideas anymore. Its all “Hey, everyone likes vampires now, lets make our own vampire show until everyone likes spies again, then we’ll cancel the vampires and do spies until everyone likes robots…” and so on and so forth

I haven’t read the books but I’ve watched the pilot of the series and loved it.  Stefan is adorable and I am really loving the budding romance between Stefan&Elena!

Just FYI for everyone, The Vampire Diaries was a book series written over 10 YEARS ago so everyone saying that it’s riding on the Twilight saga’s coattails are seriously wrong. There are quite a few things Stephenie Meyer’s books that seem to have been taken directly from LJ Smith. It’s too bad SM made vampires so fruity. I’m upset that Smith didn’t get the recognition that she rightfully deserves (it was a mere cult-following of her novels) and it looks as if they changed ALOT of the story while turning it into the TV series so the jury is still out on whether or not I’m going to like the show.

I thought it was going to be a complete twilight rip-off, but I actually watched the first episode, and I’m definitely intrigued & will continue watching it. The acting & some of the writing for the show is totally cheesy…but there was something that left me hanging on that first episode, so I want to know what’s going to happen!

I’m watching it because it’s a cheap imitation of Twilight that I want to use to tide me over while I wait for New Moon to come out in November. DD

I’ve been meaning to get the vampire diaries (the books) for a while but never seemed to find them at the used book store and couldn’t remember the authors name when I went to B&N….maybe now they will be a little easier to find…

 I read the books simply because they were by L.J.Smith — whose Night World series I adored.
I didn’t really care for the books this series is based on either. HOWEVER, if this series leads to Night World being made into a tv series, I’ll love it forever regardless of how much I hate the teeny bopper drama and the characters. xD

That all said, I barely like True Blood. It’s a tiny bit over the top even for someone who grew up with a horror-genre-fan-mother. Every week I’m like, “OMG WHY DO I WATCH THIS?”…and the answer is, they know how to leave me hanging. My curiosity’s awful like that, I HAVE to know what happens. Although I can’t say I’ve ever read the books, and at this point I’m wondering if I want to.

Twilight, well, I liked it before it was popular because it was DIFFERENT. I’m not usually a fan of romances in general, let alone teen romance novels, however there was enough changes to the supernatural side of it, that made it just different enough for me to tolerate it and like it.
 People adoring it now almost ruined it for me, lmao.
I mean, I read it back when hardly anyone read it. It was collecting dust at my library and I was like, “Hmm, this looks interesting…”
 I’m not sure I like the first movie that much, but it’s pretty enough just to look at and my Mother likes it. But saying all that, I can’t say it’s a favorite either.

I don’t think this vampire kick’s necessarily a bad thing — just so long as it doesn’t crowd out other paranormal and scifi shows.
 I gotta have SOMETHING to fill in the gaping hole this last season of Supernatual on the CW’s gonna leave in my tv watching (I hardly watch tv as it is, I need as excuse xD).

I saw the first episode just because there was nothing else on, and the actings really bad, and the story isn’t interesting… you’d expect something really good to happen the firs episode to capture a viewers interest, but it didn’t.
The guy with the brownish black hair is really gorgeous though, not the main one, the brother or whatever.
And I agree, despite my hate for the vampire fad, true blood is pretty good.

I can’t believe they now show one Supernatural for this. Supernatural was like the only reason I even looked forward to my week. Oh, well.

I read the books and didnt think it would be that great but I was totally wrong it has become my weekly addiction to watch this show it really grabs your attention and is deff darker than twilight ! Tune it , you wont regret it.

Btw the books were written 10 YEARS BEFORE TWILIGHT! so it not a copy, Twilight it a COPY of it if anything, and i love twilight but seriously Vampire Diaries was written tens years before so stop saying its a copy cuz it not.

yeaa i agree, i mean i do love twilight don’t get me wrong, but it like stupid that people are saying its a copy. i mean yes they are similar but vampire diaries was first even though twilight got the limelight first it still facts. ahha srry it just annoys me that people keep saying it ! but i do love vampires haha
