“I think you’re either born with a sense of style or you’re not…Either you care or you don’t.” That’s what Ashley Olsen says in the new issue of Marie Claire magazine.

Some people, cough -Perez Hilton-cough, found her statement offensive but I happen to agree with her.

While I see how her statements could be taken as pretentious and patronizing, I think she’s right; you either care about fashion or you don’t.

Style has nothing to do with money either. People aren’t stylish because they can afford to buy vintage Yves Saint Laurent.

So if money can’t buy you style, than saying “it’s something you’re born with” isn’t that far fetched is it?

Having a sense of style also doesn’t mean you’re always going to “get it right” either. Name a starlet that’s always on a best dressed list and I’ll show you the cringe-worthy outfit she once wore. Having a sense of style simply means, in my opinion, you use clothing as another form of expression and you have an appreciation for it as another art form even if it may not make sense to most people.

I happen to care very much about fashion and I think it’s very important. My friends, however, couldn’t care less about fashion; they throw on their jeans and tanks and they look great. It doesn’t make them any less beautiful. They just don’t care.

Do you find Ashley Olsen’s statement offensive? Do you care about fashion?
