I don’t mind it–they do it by choice, and seem happy.

Like some other people have already said, it could be a lot worse.  And I would argue that there’s no degradation at all since those women have chosen to be there.  

those women pick their own jobs.
if it is degrading- they’re doing it to themselves.

But to be honest, I love the atmosphere there.
It’s just fun. I like trivia night.

I’ve been there once. The wings were alright, but people (guys) mostly go there for the eye candy. If a girl or woman feels that it’s degrading, they wouldn’t be working there in the first place. I mean, if you want to make it even, make a franchise called “Weiners.”

@cornyonacob@xanga - I think there are 4 hooters locations in China. I went to one in Hangzhou in the middle of winter. The girls were wearing big baggie t-shirts… I think they emphasized more on the booty shorts since the girls are really tiny. But generally the food is way too overpriced for the local folk. The only customers I saw in there were older white men.

i like the wings and there are tv’s for all my favorite games. plus pretty girls to look at, i don’t see the issue lol

i always made fun of my guy friends for going to hooters. they all said “oh we go there for the wings.” righhhht. just like you get playboy for the articles. lol funny thing is i went there for the first time and their wings are actually pretty tasty!

and i agree with a lot of these comments. these girls chose to work there. heck, if i had the body, i’d work there! it sounds like fun.

I’ve been there with two of my guyfriends… the food was real bad and I had to spend an hour there listening to them talking about how hot the chick on the counter is. Oh, and not to mention how many times they asked the employees to take pictures with them. The ride home I had to listen to them talking about boobs and asses, too. Uncomfortable… 

I don’t have a problem with it, and I think they choose to have the job, so aren’t they degrading themselves? 

Funny side note – I went to a conservative Christian college and all students were banned from working in the Hooters in town.  I thought it was kind of funny/

I have no problem with it and don’t find that it is in any way degrading. Food + happy atmosphere = Fun.

I’ve never been. I don’t think I’d mind working there, though. It looks kind of fun and I’ve heard the tips are phenomenal. All you have to do is wiggle your hips and smile like there’s no tomorrow. I don’t see a problem with it. I don’t think I’ll go out to eat there, though. It’s a guy’s place to eat. 

I want to point out that just because people are complicit in an action doesn’t mean it’s any less degrading.  While I don’t think Hooters should be shut down, there is some credence to the argument that it contributes to the view of women as a piece of meat, things that exist only to satisfy the whims of (usually) men.

i’ve never been sick from hooters, and no, i don’t think Hooter’s is responsible for degrading women, the men who treat the waitresses like crap are responsible. Now, i’m not saying that all men at hooter’s do that, but you get my point. And honestly, not trying to offend you, i think your sister may have used “their food makes me sick” as an excuse just to prove her point

I’ve been to Hooters many times and as a female myself I don’t find it all degrading. Overrated, yes, but most things are. They are not selling themselves in any way.

My mother taught me to use the system against itself. That’s what these girls are doing, in my opinion.

I always thought that Wing House was worse about ‘degrading women’ than Hooters. But Wing House has better food, so maybe they’re allowed to wear smaller, tighter clothes? 

Personally, I think that it’s overrated. I mean, not everyone wants to look at boobs and butts all day(unless you’re a guy) lol. I don’t think that it’s degrading women because those women chose to parade around in cleavage bearing tank tops and booty shorts. However, there are other ways to look sexy at your job than to show all of your goods and leave little to the imagination.

Meh.. it’s not like anyone MAKES them do it. They know they’re good looking, and the Hooters owners like to make money… so pretty girls in revealing outfits = more money! yey!

I’ve never been to one, but I always thought the outfits were a little obnoxious. I guess it’s good marketing for their demographic, though. But you have to wonder, are they compensating for shitty food with that whole deal? Every other successful restaurant (that I know of) features waiters and waitresses that are modestly dressed. I don’t know, maybe I’m over-analyzing.

i went to the one in gold coast, australia. food was so expensive and it was disgusting.

I don’t think that there’s anything degrading about it.  It’s understandable to dislike it when the food makes you sick, but they chose to work there.  Not all women want to walk around in oversized t-shirts and hoodies so as not to get ogled.

We guys are generally suckers for that sort of thing, so I don’t think the girls are the ones getting the downside of the bargain if they’re making money off of the two male weaknesses: hot girls and good food. Especially if they’re doing it out of their own free will. And then the guys get hot girls and good food. So everyone wins!

Never really understood the concept of women being degraded anyway. Like, how if guys are “on the hunt” then women are treated as a prize or food or something. First off, what’s wrong with being regarded as a prize? Secondly, it would arguably be more degrading for me to be regarded as a woman than as food. Food provides fulfillment and supports life. Women don’t stop complaining and find unfullfilling ways to drain your wallet that don’t support your life. Just saying.

(Completely kidding! …alright, half kidding. But the vast majority of my friends are girls, and I’m very respectful to women. I just don’t talk like it.)

My girlfriend and I just went to Hooters for wings the other day. There were alot of female customers besides us. I just think that their deep fried pickles were gross.

I love Hooters. Sure, the main draw is to have an attractive waitress with big boobs. Yes, the guys will ogle them, but the girls know what they’re getting into when they apply there, so hopefully it doesn’t bother them, because they’ve grown thick skin. I think that anyone who gets all upset about Hooters is overreacting. If it bothers you, then just don’t go there.

Kinda off-topic, but I heard that when you work there, Hooters pays for you to have a gym and tanning membership.

Well…they could be wearing a lot less. I’ve seen girls wear less clothing on the beach than in Hooters, but then again, the purpose is still to attract men and view the women as sexual objects. So yeah, I think it is degrading.

I remember when I was a Lab Assistant for a teacher at school last year, this kid did his franchise project on Hooters. It was pretty piss poor but he did say that Hooters “positively raises awareness for sexual harassment.” I think I laughed about that for three hours.
Of course it’s degrading to women; I mean, the idea of it is a little gross. But the fact that it’s purely voluntary kind of lessens that aspect by a few degrees, though.

I’ve never had a problem with it there. Good customer service & the food wasn’t bad at all (honestly, the last time I went to Hooters, we had their wings, but it was so long ago I wasn’t keeping tabs on ”great tasting wings” back then).

I wouldn’t say that it’s not degrading. They do choose to be there but strippers choose to do that too and it doesn’t make it any less degrading. Though people do a lot when in a money bind. And there are worse jobs out there.

there’s cute vs hot vs pretty. Hooters goes for hot. Asians generally win points in cute category. that attempt at mixing cute and hot was bad.
hot people are at their strongest point when they go to “come hither mode”cute people play their aces when they act innocent, and appeal to those who want to break that innocence (aka pedo)

However the atmosphere is fun.  My son loves it there.  The waitresses always lavish him with attention.  The men that go there crack up b/c when he is there, he is the one the waitresses are paying the most attention to.

To be honest, the way I see it, if some guy is going to give me a bigger tip b/c my breasts are pushed up to my chin and I laugh at his not so clever jokes, so be it.  Hooters is not my definition of degrading.

I used to work at a korean-owned sushi place my boss only hired ‘pretty girls’ and the more makeup the betterhe would start judgung girls that worked there on their appearance rather than their performancehe was reeeeally mean to the ‘less attractive’ girls and he put the prettiest girl in charge as head waitress.it was hierarchy based on our looksand one day he told me to my face that i should wear more makeup to work
i quit, and never looked backbut for a lot of girls, it was the only way they could make ends meet, they couldnt just quit out of nowhere.anyone who thinks HOOTERS is not degrading should think again!

I’ve never been to Hooters and never will be.  I think it is very degrading to women.  Anytime you dress up in little to nothing at all and walk around making money or whatever by your physical assets you are downgrading yourself as well as the female society.  You’re telling the world that there’s nothing to you but a good body.  That’s not true.  I would rather be tipped and enjoyed for my personality, my service, and what’s on the inside than what SHOWS on the outward appearance.

personally i’ve never been to hooters but why is it degrading when women choose to work at hooters. i prefer hooters to strip clubs plus the women at hooters are a lot more covered up, reminds me of friscos.

although i used to not get why the women at hooters all had big boobs but i guess its synonymous with the name.

Just because you do something by choice doesn’t mean that its not degrading.

I’ve never been but I’m told their food is mediocre and sometimes the women are below mediocre. I don’t know. It’s no different from a strip joint or a woman posing in Playboy.

Only insecure women who don’t look as great would complain about how Hooters “degrades” women. No man is going into a Hooters and expecting to disrespect the women who work there. It’s not like they’re saying “that ***** is a hot ***** and she should be in my kitchen, barefoot and naked, making me a sandwich and getting me a beer!” I know someone who works at Hooters and she loves it because the tips are great. What’s so wrong about taking advantage of what you already have?

I really like Hooter’s wings and curly fries.  I used to frequent Hooters as a twelve year old actually.  I don’t find it degrading.  There are many more degrading things to women than Hooters.
