Since when did having braces put you in the “nerd” category??
Doesn’t that mean that you’ve looked in the mirror and noticed that your teeth are crooked? Doesn’t it mean that you’re investing money to get a beautiful smile? Honestly, I think braces should be a sign of a person who cares about their appearance.
Why does being in 7th grade mean you’re “better” than a 6th grader?
Weren’t you in sixth grade last year? Does that mean you were uncool last year? Doesn’t that mean you’re uncool this year, because there are still some 8th graders around?
Why are all the bullies named Biff?
seriously.
Why does playing your Xbox 7 hours a day make you “cool”, whereas playing on your laptop 2 hours a day make you a “loser”?
Okay, maybe I exaggerated that a bit.
But honestly, where on the grand timeline of “cool”ness did laptops, computers, MMORPGs, gaming forums, and the like go to the dogs, and how is playing your Xbox or PS3 for an equal amount of time somehow better? Where is the value in game systems? After all, “nerds” are learning more from their computers than is ever possible from game systems. Why this divide in technology?
Why is Pokemon so frowned upon?
Pokemon is cool, man.
Does middle school logic make sense to you? Which of these things annoyed you the most in junior high?
guest
Haha coming from a previous middle schooler, (im going into high school), dinosaurs were cool but pokemon wernt. wtf, they’re practically the same thing. and seriously, i know we all say the previous grade sucks, but its not the grade its just the people. and yeah, people do brag about their gaming skillz. wtf, computers are a source of knowledge, they’re cool.
guest
I don’t think I was labeled as a nerd when I had braces. I am still sooooo god damn grateful that my parents paid for me to get braces back in the day. =]
guest
I think the thing that irritated me the most about middle school was that the 6th graders had the smallest grade, and the 8th graders have the biggest, but yet we’re still crammed in a hallway with the 7th graders and the 6th graders get their own hallway. it was weird.
guest
Holding hands was against the rules in middle school, I remember I hated that.
guest
i’m just starting ninth grade, so i know what you mean. now, braces don’t always mean ‘nerd’ — nearly everyone i know has had them at some point. it’s too common now. 7th graders are cooler just because they’re older, taller, smarter (sometimes
) — they’re that much closer to graduating. not all bullies are named biff (not in my district, at least), and… well, i don’t know much about the xbox thing.
guest
Middle school (period) confused me! LOL!
guest
I have never heard of the name Biff before.
And Pokemon was cool in middle school. >:D

higher grade = seniority. plain and simple. sucks when you’re on the bottom, but you get your turn eventually.
guest
I actually don’t quite get the whole if you’re a 7th grader, you’re bad to the 6th graders. That’s how they were to us 6th graders when I was in middle school. It’s kinda like how the sophomores are to the freshmen. The seniors and some juniors are chiiiill, the rest are just annoying and think they’re cool. Hahaha, you’re not >.>
guest
Lol. The only thing at my middle school that made you uncool was being unathletic.
=.= Guess who was a loser? *points to herself*
And I couldn’t shake that title off in high school off, either.
Now I’m in College, and had to go to one a few towns away to avoid the other people I know who went to my schools. Ugh.
Somehow, in this college, I’m cool, because smart people are liked. WTF???
guest
@Aiyoku_Angel@xanga - In college the smart people are cool. Or the ones in social fraternity/sorority and can drink. ;D
guest
@fueledbylaura@xanga - Pokemon was still sort of new back then when I was in middle school so it was cool.
@iJUST_ATEabug@xanga - Ya, just like high school. Once you become a senior it’s somewhat irritating to have underclassmen trying to tell you what’s up. I remember people used to move aside when seniors would go to lunch since we had off campus lunch and sometimes it would crowd around certain stores. And people would be more willing to move aside if you’re taller and look like a senior.
guest
I was mostly annoyed that in 8th grade I was getting picked on by one of the popular girls who had braces. That was just way out of the stereotype there.
guest
@kimtendo@xanga - Oddly enough I’ve heard of Biff, he’s the bully character on Phineas and Ferb.
guest
I was in middle school not too long ago.
What annoyed me most was how mean everyone was. Simple as that.

Don’t worry guys, it all gets reversed in college.
The older ones that can’t legally drink yet have tremendous laptop-envy for the younger ones. Heck, I myself am in the throes of some serious laptop-envy, and I *can* drink.
guest
@AznFier@xanga - I wish pokemon was cool now. i loved it.
guest
@AznFier@xanga - Indeed.
guest
@Wait_by_Moonlight@xanga - the word laptop-envy is really confusing me. All I can think of is… “Dude I want your sweet laptop.” *drools*
@fueledbylaura@xanga - Yeah Pokemon isn’t that popular anymore, it’s like a whatever-thing. Dancing on the other hand is freaking awesome. Look into it while you’re young and it’ll become your lifetime entertainment.
rose / 944 posts
@AznFier@xanga - That is totally it. The drool is optional, but effective.
guest
I have never in my life met someone named Biff.
guest
Pokemon IS cool. Enough said.
guest
hmm. why is this on lovelyish? these blogs keep straying off topic more and more…
guest
Amen! I love Pokemon.
guest
because if you actually did care for your appearance you would’ve used invisalign

Oh middle school…best just to forget those times…

Pokemon sucks. It was good back in the day, now it blows. THAT’S WHY.
@CaRelEsSeMofReaK4LiFe@xanga - and I know. This makes no sense, whatsoever.

I miss Pokémon.

Pokemon is cool in my grade at least. Then again, I’m going into my last year of high school. So we don’t care about what anyone else thinks anymore.
Braces were everywhere back then, so calling someone a nerd was pointless.
The thing about lower grades and higher is all about seniority. The Freshmen grade will forever be the uncool. Hahaha, sorry.
And there is no one named Biff at my school.
guest
pokemon used to be the “thing” when i was in elementary, and actually, the geeks are the ones that play game systems and normal people go online
and i hate anyone of the younger generation, im sorry but they all grew up with crap for entertainment, and now their mentality is like that
guest
i’m ng to be a freshman this september. at my middle school(only gradesall ‘scrubsoked down on by 8thgraders. having braces wasn’t a big deal because almost every 13 year old has braces these day. pokemon =whatever, it’s more of how we reminisce about the days when pokemon was the coolest tv show&how crappy shows they have on today have replaced pokemon. also if you played video games for hours, it’s considered dorky, unlesss you were playing rockband/guitar hero. everyone was always on the internet, so no one cared if you were on your laptop for 7 hours.

regarding the whole grade thing…
i just think you feel more superior to the grades that are below you. i’m a sophomore, and i absolutely hate freshmen…but i was a freshman like, a month ago.
well technically i was a freshman two years in a row – in my hometown there was no middle school, and you just made the transition from elementary school (which ended at seventh grade) to secondary school (which started at eighth grade). then i moved to hong kong. and high school started at ninth grade. so yeah. but don’t we all look down upon the younger grades?
guest
Things aren’t cool if you can’t understand them. Game consoles are simple (you turn them on, you play a game); thus cool. Laptops can get viruses, or you may have to worry about identity theft online, or you may have to go into the control panel to change a lot of settings…which is too hard for some people (…for some reason); thus not cool. Pokemon isn’t as cool because a lot of people don’t get that there’s more to Pokemon than continuously catching/training random Pokemon, and thus those people don’t understand what you’re talking about when you say you need to EV train your modest Milotic as a special tank so you can wi-fi-battle this kid you met online who lives in China.

It shows that their parents care but, of course, it sure does look nerdy!

Ha I’m an upcoming college freshman, and a group of my guy friends has pokemon competitions almost daily :p. They’re still cool.

Middle school was annoying. At least, now that I look back on it. I hated how everyone thought they were so cool because they moved up one grade. But they get more annoying every year.
Oh, and…. Pokemon IS cool. I have a collector’s album to prove it…. that I sold at a garage sale for $35! That’s cool, right?
guest
hahah, I went to middle school for one year and then jumped straight to high school… well, okay, it was a middle school inside a high school so it doesn’t really count. Middle School Logic doesn’t make sense.
guest
@lowerwestside@xanga - i think everyone is the meanest during middle school. that’s what i didn’t like about
hydrangea / 59 posts
my personal experience is that its money
if you have it, use it for fun stuff, not the stuff that ADULTS would use at WORK. if you have the cool gaming system, you don’t need to go online to play in those game forums. braces mean your ‘imperfect’ and have proof of it that anyone can see when you smile.
its just the way those shallow bitches are, and its not just junior high, its high school too
guest
Hahahhaa.
Oh God, if you think middle school is still like this, you are completely mistaken.
Heh. I was in an intermediate school, not a middle school, so there was seventh and eighth.
The seventh and eighth graders got along fine, and braces and glasses are completely normal. If you like pokemon, whatever.
What made you lame was Yu-Gi-Oh. xD
And people who use the computer > people who play video games all day. Yup. A lot of things are different than what is portrayed on television.
guest
I think the whole braces thing is “lame”. I mean I agree with you. the person cares about their appearance. Why is that so bad? My daughter is going ot have to have braces when she gets to about fifth or sixth grade. I know she is going to hate it but in the long run she will be the one with the beautiful smile while the one who picked on her will be the one with most of their teeth gone.

I see so many movies where peope with glasses or braces are uncool. But around me, I see the opposite. Braces and glasses have actually started to be considered cool/normal. Look at Toya on BET’s new series ‘Tiny and Toya.’ She has braces (when in the commentary) and she’s gorgeous! I have glasses. And might need braces. I have friends who’ve had both. And I’ve even read atricles where the ‘nerdy’ or ‘geek chic’ style (wow… it’s actually a style now!) is actually becoming a popular fashion statement. I can’t even count the people I have seen with black/ thick rimmed glasses. I even have a pair! Lol!
Thanks Kanye!

@CaRelEsSeMofReaK4LiFe@xanga - I wasn’t the one who submitted it here… honestly though, where else would it go?
guest
Can’t blame em’. In middle school, we’re mostly naive. No, being a ‘nerd’ has nothing to do with the braces thing, well not since i were in junior high, it all depends on how each individual portrays themselves (confidence and what not) and on looks, definately looks..
guest
not really true. it’s all stereotypical, ’cause most people that have braces are not nerds in middle school.
magnolia / 1054 posts
where I grew up, no one made fun of people with braces and glasses. People still liked Pokemon, and there were no bullies. Well, at least not a lot that would beat people up, there were just Mean Girls, counted as bullies? I was one of them, er, still am.

@princess_riceball@xanga - No, Buford is the bully on Phineas and Ferb, Biff is his goldfish.
Biff is the bully on Back to the Future.

@imafrickenkoala - I got those mixed up, I remember now he said he named the goldfish Biff after his mom.
