Teen stars such as Miley Cyrus and Taylor swiftare usually seen accessorising their outfits with a wristful of bracelets.
So, is less more?
Personally, I think it’s pretty cool, as long as you do it right and don’t overdo it (have bracelets halfway up to your elbow). Leather and wood seems to be the popular choice for the piling of bracelets/bangles for these teen stars.
Black rubber bracelets, otherwise known as ‘Sex Bands’ (I have no idea how this name came about) have been made popular, or rather, more popular by Miley Cyrus, with accessory shops calling them ‘Miley Bracelets’. I admit, I have a stash of sixteen of these bracelets in my jewellery box, but I only wear a maximum of six at a time.
I would like to follow this trend as well, but haven’t gotten round to purchasing some yet, usually too expensive (considering that i’m still schooling and getting pocket money). Plus, my options are limited, sadly, what with living in an island, with not many a range of shops to shop at, compared to say, the USA? Cna’t wait for my next trip there. Reading Seventeen has made me write out my shopping list when I go there. Claires, Wet Seal and Forever 21, watch out!

Would you follow the trend? Is accessorizing with tons of bracelets hot or not?

I love bangles

I think they look cute. And you’re right, when done in moderation they look good, however too many can be too much.
I think they got the “sex bracelets” name when they first came out maybe 5 years ago. People would wear different colors and they meant different things relating to sex. I dont’ really remember the details but I thought that was rediculous when I heard it.
guest
“sex bracelets” when I was in high school were when someone broke one of the colors, the person wearing the bracelet would have to do something with the person who broke it. Black bracelets were sex, and I don’t know about the others- they were oral, anal, make-out, kiss, etc. . . The colors varied.
Pretty dumb either way.

whenever I wear bracelets, I get annoyed at them and end up taking them off
guest
I wear bracelets, but only two or three… not a lot.
guest
I used to wear a ton of bracelets on each arm, but I haven’t in a while. It’s cute, though.
guest
I overdo it. ^^

I love bracelets!

i love having a bunch of bracelets, but you have to wear it with the right outfit. sometimes it doesn’t look right.

I love the trend, but almost every bracelet I have is several years old, and too small. The majority of them are thick rubber ones, like the Livestrong bracelets.

i like bracelets.

I’m not a fan of jewelry, generally. If I wear jewelry, I like it to be one piece that accentuates the outfit or brings attention to that accessory. I like more timeless pieces like a thin gold chain gold pendant.

@kimtendo@xanga - Me too, I especially can’t stand the ones that jingle against eachother. The noise makes me pissed off.
guest
I like bracelets. I think it looks cool to wear a bunch of the right ones and to not really overdue it. However I only wear two bracelets regularly, because they mean something to me, so it’s not something I really do myself…
guest
I like bracelets, but I can only wear one at a time- bangles drive me NUTS, as do cuffs. For me, they have to dangle.
guest
i like less. i don’t like too much because it gets heavy.
btw, i like miley’s shoulder bag in the first picture!
guest
a ton of bracelets looks cool. i wear those jelly bands, and other plastic ones too. oh, and the name ‘sex bands’ came from a game which teenagers play, that when you snap one of them the person has to do a sexual favour for the snapper. O.O
i dont really like wooden or silver jewellery. the cheap looking things are the best, because if you loose them, it’s cheap enough to buy more.
guest
I wear quite a few, but most mean something to me
guest
I love bracelets[of all kinds]. My mood for the day and my outfit choice determines whether I wear lots, just a few, one or none.
guest
I like bracelets, I always wear them, but usually they’re just hair ties lol
guest
i love the look, but i don’t know where to begin! lol.
personally i like the hippie spin on the trend; lots of hemp/embroidery thread :]
guest
hmmm i dont know about this one but i guess some could pull it off especially with the right outfit but i’ll stick to my single coach bracelet.

sex band: jelly bracelets in different colors relate to different things, as in black=sex.
I think it goes that if they snap it or break it, they have to do it or something.

I already do it.

it’s kinda loud if you tend to talk with your hands (which I do) so I’m inclined to wear less since I want to avoid sounding funny. lol.

I ‘m not a fan of jewelry, and if i do wear them, it will be one or 2 n’ thats it…
too much make me look bulky n’ it doesnt suit my style/frame
guest
I like to keep it simple and classy, so I’d probably just stick with bangles if I wanted to layer.
But, some pieces of jewelry just look better when there’s more (i.e. leather, shell, wood ones) so I’d sometimes add maybe one or two at the most.
And I can’t stand seeing tons of bracelets on BOTH arms. So distracting.
guest
not those though
guest
I love bracelets. =]

I think it looks kinda dumb honestly…

I love the bulky bracelet look, but it can’t be too much or too little, and it has to be only on one arm, otherwise it looks to overdone. I think you also have to have a variety, not just a few types. I just love the way the look, especially if someone has made them for you.
guest
jeez. this was in about 3 years ago for me. now its out haha
guest
It’s kind of two years ago, but still cute.

i love it on taylor.. not so much miley

i don’t like it i think too much of it looks dirty

for myself, i go by the saying, “less is always more.” i think the whole “lets wear a bunch of bracelets” thing died out back in the ninties when people wore tons of flannel everything. then again, i also see flannel starting to make a come back…so maybe thats why the whole bracelet fad is starting to appear again. i think one or two bracelets is fine or just one chunky bangle. anything else in my opinion makes the choice of outfit they are wearing less appealing and more overdone. simple is always better and looks more feminine and elegant. even with taylor swift – the person that everyone seems to think is the most perfect woman in the world – looks a little less elegant with all those bracelets draped around her arm.

lol i like emmmm

love it

I’ve always wanted to do that but i don’t have money to buy bracelets.
guest
I seriously HATE those jelly “sex bracelets”. No offense to anyone… to each their own. I just think they’re awful.
If anything, I like wearing one big bangle.
guest
i love this! as long as we can keep the dress nice and simple, accessorizing with bracelets looks cool. i love the bracelets worn by taylor swift!
guest
i feel naked without at least one bracelet on at all times. i’ve been wearing lots of bracelets for a lonnngg time. when it’s not a trend, i’ll probably still do it. whatever.
guest
ughhh all this post makes me want to do is stop wearing bracelets. sometimes i’ll wear quite a few, sometimes just 2 or 3, and sometimes none at all but its annoying because i’ve been doing this since i was 14 or 15 and im not saying i was original in thinking up “oohh bracelets are cute” but now its trendy, and id rather not be.
guest
but i would never wear as many as they are. about half, tops.
guest
mmm most at one time will be 2 bracelets[tiffany charm bracelet, and african bead bracelet]and a hair band…anymore than that i freak lol, but less is most def more
guest
i think it’s a bit teeny bopper.

I think it’s great!!! I LOVE bracelets!!!!

I was wearing about 5 bracelets at one point, but I’m down to 2 now. One is a breast cancer awareness one since my grandma is currently undergoing chemo and surgery and the other is two sex bracelets put together my boyfriend put on me. Not for the reason that they’re sex bracelets. He didn’t know until I told him haha. I had to take off my other bracelets for work though. Anyway, that’s kind of lame that they wear so many. It’s cute up to a point, but they’re exceeding that point haha. I can wear like 4 or 5 on at a time. I do like the hemp and wood bracelets. I just think that less is better.
guest
I think it’s cute, especially the way Taylor Swift is wearing it in the last picture, but I don’t know… I’d probably look stupid wearing them.
Maybe I’ll give it a try sometime. haha

the braceletts are ok… the choice of celebrities modeling it… not so much
guest
I think they look good, but I don’t like accentuating my bony wrists. D:
guest
This is not a recent trend at all.
People have been piling on bracelets for ages….
guest
I would say not, because of the conotation that they have with me.
Wearing numerous bracelettes is a good way to cover up scars.
guest
i wear about 5 bracelets i think that should be the limit. :]
guest
One or two is enough for me.
guest
I’ve been wearing bracelets since I was 14.I’ve always liked the way they look and all the different types.Just as long as they match the outfit its Hot.
guest
it’s cute=)

it’s cute=)

Eh, sex bands were also used sometimes in the opposite, where you got one for doing whatever corolated with the color for someone. I remember when everyone used to wear them like six or seven years ago, but no one used them as sex bands. That I knew anyway.
guest
@xtraaaa@xanga - Agreed. Seriously, I don’t get why they’re ‘trends’ now, when miley and the tween stars about now aren’t the ones who started it.
Though I wear more than seems to be the general consensus on the correct amount, I’ve been wearing bangles, and such since I was about six, and my cousins wore them before me, and their parents before them, etc.

HOTTTT…and not just for teens, i’m 24.

don’t wear bracelets because they’re annoying haha
guest
I wouldn’t say it doesn’t look good on other people, but the most bracelets I’ve ever worn was 3 or 4 when I was in junior high. Now I just wear one nice one on occasion.

i can’t ever wear the bracelet known as bangles (the ones that dont stretch, and you have to slip your hand into them) because my hands, well my thumb bone more specifically is out too far to wear bangles simply wont go on my hand
its really sad, i know

Not keen on big clunky jewellery and especially not beads (except for pearls for some reason, which I love), I like simple delicate gold chains. I actually tend to wear them round my ankles more than my wrists as I find they get in the way less down there. I used to wear as many as I could when I was younger, but not so many now though still more than most women it seems, usually only wearing one around each ankle or wrist, maybe two if they’re really fine chains.
