What’s a good way to stay on a budget, look hip, and make some extra cash in a recession? Consignment shops! Yes, you heard right. Second-hand treasures are the new thing.
Who wants to pay full price when you can pay less than half?
Seriously, we can all use a little extra cash in our pockets right now. Recently, I’ve gotten into this whole thing. Okay, so the other day I found a necklace that reminded me of Jackie O. To give you an idea of what I’m talking about check out these two pictures below:
Expensive
Who can beat that? I spent $4 on two shirts. In total, I spent $27.
I also just became a consigner. This is what you become when you give some of your old stuff to the consignment store. They sell it for you and you get a profit. It’s a pretty sweet deal. My shop gives me 50% of the profit. Not bad for stuff that was sitting in my closet vacationing in dust. If your still interested, check out this search engine. It shows you local consignment shops. You have nothing to lose, except clothes and items you don’t use anyway.
Are you already familiar with the consignment store craze? If not, do you see yourself checking some out?

Yes, I love cosignment & secondhand stores. You get to save money & most of the stuff you buy there is unique, & you usually won’t find anyone wearing the same exact thing.

there are none close enough to me, but when i get down to a 6 i might donate all my 8 stuff to them

yes.
i don’t go to consignment shops often, ’cause the only good ones are downtown, but i go to thrift stores all the time. you don’t get money from your clothes, but… everything there is cheap.

I’m a fan of vintage looks, and secondhand is the best way to find it…authentic and inexpensive!

I have lots of knick-knacks I wish I could sell off. How do they keep track of who used to own what?

i’ve never been to a consignment store but i might one day. a lot of my friends are into the vintage/thrift looks and shop at many different places that sell secondhand clothing all the time. as for myself, i usually just shop at regular stores and pay full price (or wait till it goes on sale). you can get really good deals also when you just wait for the other stores to put it on sale. my friend bought a pair of plaid shorts at a secondhand store for $20 and i bought mine for $14.99 at target. they look pretty identical except for the color. so sometimes the secondhand stores aren’t really that good of a deal.

I get all my clothes second hand pretty much and I also take stuff to second hand stores too. I love second hand stores because I always find really unique pieces and I also buy books , CD’s ,video’s and other stuff. Garage Sales are pretty cool too ..yep I have a second hand obsession

I go to Goodwill all the time. They don’t give you any money, but they don’t take profits. They give jobs to people who may otherwise not be able to find work. And I find great stuff there

i am a goodwill fanatic. i haven’t had to buy new anything in about two years, i just get everything there.

I’ve bought form consignment stores before and it’s pretty neat. Trying to sell clothes back is hard though. I went to two different one’s and out of 2 shopping bags full of clothes only one store took one tank top (which was an Ambercrombie and Fitch brand). I was pissed
There’s one more place I might try, but if I don’t succeed there than I quit lol.

i usually wait for sales. sales during xmas are the best! n sometimes i buy stuff from outlets or reject shops where they sell new items at much lower prices because the items are out of season or rejected due to minor defects.

@raiyaya@xanga - couldnt agree more. I went to the outlet mall this weekend and there were TONS of awesome clothes by brand names that I pay full price for, for as little as $5 in womens and $1.99 in kids. For brand new clothes, u cant beat it. Especially if u really love the clothing, ur not just buying it bc its so cheap. LOL. I fall into the “I need it, its only $3″ trap all the time!

@TheScaleDiaries@xanga - tell me about it! I tried to sell some clothes by Juicy Couture but Plato’s Closet turned them down (even though they were almost brand new) bc the juicy couture tag changed over the year or so, and the tag was too old. wtf!

I agree! Goodwill is awesome too! Whichever one you fancy is cool! Just never waste anything, donate it or go to consignment store. I’ve donated many bags to Goodwill so I do both. I don;t believe in being wasteful becuase there is always someone out there that can use it. : )

A consignment store by my house was selling george forman grills with bacon grease still all over it, brushes and razors with hairs in it, that store was pretty nasty. I’ve avoided second hand shops for a long time because of that place but a Goodwill opened nearby and they have some great stuff there
