Do you think you could wear the same dress 365 days in a row and still be fashionable?
Well, Sheena Matheikenone is taking on the challenge and for a good cause. On May 2009, Sheena pledged to wear one dress for one year as an exercise in sustainable fashion and dubbed it “The Uniform Project”. For the challenge, Sheena has seven identical dresses,
one for each day of the week and every day she styles the dress with different layers and accessories.

May 7
“The Uniform Project” is also a year-long fundraiser for the Akanksha Foundation, a grassroots movement that is revolutionizing education in India. At the end of the year, all contributions will go toward Akanksha’s school project to fund uniforms and other educational expenses for slum children in India.”
Visit theuniformproject.com to learn more and donate.
What do you think of Sheena’s pledge? Would you take on this sort of challenge to support a cause? Why or why not?
guest
Wow I so couldn’t do that! Good for her though.
guest
I think that’s pretty cool –
and
it’s for a good cause! I don’t think I could do that either… it’s too much of a hassle!
guest
I like how it is for a good cause , but I doubt I can do that .
guest
I think that’d be fun. You’d definitely have to get creative.
I’m amazed at Sheena’s commitment. I’d definitely do it for a worthy cause.
Hmmm..I want to try that and see how long I could do it..
guest
that’s really cool
dahlia / 2382 posts
I would do it. It’s not like you wear the same dress without washing it. The good thing about basic black is you can wear it so many different ways & some people dont even know it’s the same thing. I hope she completes her goal! Go girl! =)
guest
lol wow she’s so creative with the different ways of dressing it. too bad i’m not :[ and i dont think i can do it
dahlia / 2942 posts
I don’t think I could do that. Especially with the dress she chose. But kudos to her for a good, creative way to support a good cause.
guest
I could for sure.
guest
That sounds pretty cool! It’s a great way to get creative with your outfit.
I also like that it’s for a cause, and not just to see if she can pull it off.
dahlia / 2012 posts
I like how she had her friend design her such a versatile dress, and how she’s supporting individual artisans while she’s doing this.
guest
That’s actually an amazing idea. GREAT for the foundation
guest
i wear the same clothes all the time, never wear them just once, i mix and match and wash the clothes as well so i think its ok. as long as its clean why not.
guest
OMG, I WANT TO TRY THAT! Except not one, but two. (:
guest
wow, creative. But i dont think i can do it

well, this girl is cute so it works.

like everyone else has mentioned, i also like the fact that she is doing this for a good cause and not just for her own curiosity. props for her. but honestly, i don’t think i could last the whole 365 days. i know i could last for a couple months…maybe three or four…but after that, i think i would run out of ideas. i’m one of those people that tend to get tired of something really quick and when doing this challenge, i probably would get tired of it and find no inspiration or motivation to even think of a new way to accessorize it. but if i was doing it for a good cause like she was, i wouldn’t give up and i would find a way to do it. so in a way, i believe that i could if i was truley doing it for a good cause (and had a lot of people supporting me to help keep my motivation and spirits up) but if i was just doing it to see if i could do it, theres no way i’d survive the whole twelve months.
guest
I could probably do it for like a month. But then I would get so sick of the dress! You would have to have a lot of different layers and things to go with it.
Crazy challenge!
guest
My roommates dared me to wear the same dress for a week… it was hard to be creative with it. I can’t imagine having to figure out how to spice it up all YEAR long… YIKES.
Good for her though, looks like she’s being really creative and fun with it!!
guest
good for her, but i think i’d run out of ideas.
guest
maybe not 365 days, but probably for a week.
guest
This is actually a really good idea, and that it’s for a good cause makes it even better! Kind makes me even more committed to my goal of paring down my wardrobe to a handful of really good staples and just accessorizing the hell out of them so they always look fresh.
Must start browsing the internet now…LOL…
guest
You ask, “Do you think you could wear the same dress 365 days in a row and still be fashionable?”
I do wear the same dress 365 days in a row. But I can’t answer the second part of the question.
guest
I wish I could do that but I’d look the same everyday. And what if you’re supposed to go to a wedding that year? or Christmas? and forget about how hot it gets in the summer >_<
Good luck to her still! So nice to hear that she dedicated this for a community service project
guest
coool it would be very hard for meee haha but if its for a good causee..maybe
guest
nope!
good luck to her!
guest
that’s pretty cool. at least she doesn’t have to wake up in the morning and spend an hour deciding on what to wear, haha.
daisy / 723 posts
It’s a godd and funny Idea ! I never heard of it before, but why not ? I love wearing and creating, and I often wear same clothes with different accesories or t-shirt, makeup… But I think that all year long it could be a bit boring. Good Luck !
guest
I’m not creative enough to do that for a year, but that’s an interesting challenge and an awesome cause!

Never would be able to pull that off. Kudos to her. =)
guest
well..
i don’t think i could do that.
salute to her though..☺
guest
yes, like everybody else has said, it’s so amazing that she’s doing this for a good cause… and I honestly think I could do it. It looks like fun and I have so many different accessories that i could use =] this is great!
guest
Well she probably has a lot of $$ to spend on accessories and stuff while we don’t :\
guest
365 dAys is far too long for me! But I would love to see her diary of her wearing the outfit everyday!
orchid / 120 posts
I think she looks cute. ♥
guest
Cartoon characters do it.I can’t see why not?
guest
I think it’s a great idea. I couldn’t do it with a dress, but if you told me to wear a particular pair of jeans every day for a year, I could!
guest
I think the genius behind her endeavor is that she is using a basic
black dress. If it were patterned or colored or print it would be more
difficult, I think. Having a monochromatic base is a lot more
versatile.
Coco Chanel definitely knew what she was doing when she introduced that garment to women’s wardrobes.
guest
That would probably be impossible for me!
She must be pretty amazing lol
guest
that’s cool but i would never be able to do something like that
guest
haha this is awesome, good for her!
very smart of her to have chosen a black dress that she can not only wear tights with, but also a long shirt under!
I hope they put up all 365 pics!!
guest
Maybe with the Le Sac dress from american apparel? hhaha, kudos to her, that’d be difficult.
guest
WOW,
what a challenge !
nice,
good luck to her and that,
[:
cause i wouldn’t be able to pull that off
guest
That’s super impressive! Good Luck!
rose / 770 posts
No, because you’d still be blowing cash on the accessories so what’s the point?
guest
Wow, she’s good. I would TRY my best to. Hmm, maybe i’ll do that next year. Just for the heck of it.
guest
gotta be real creative. i can’t do it. =]
guest
good for her! it takes alot of creativity and determination to do something like that
but doesn’t it get hot in a black dress?
guest
id totally do it!!
guest
@ixhannahx3@xanga - It’s New York.
guest
@killthoseclowns@xanga - She actually wore it to a wedding. Because the dress can be worn two ways (backwards or forwards), she wore it as a sort of cardigan over another wedding-appropriate dress underneath.
sunflower / 392 posts
wow that is amazing!
guest
she is dressing it in different ways so it’s not that impressive to me. wearing the same dress in the same way would impress me more. ANy way it’s for a good cause so I applaud her.
magnolia / 1369 posts
wow that’s a really great concept … i’d def do it =)
guest
I want to try that!!! Some versatile pieces in my closet immediately came to mind when I saw this post. But then, I don’t have seven of the same dress.
Overall, I wear the same things over and over in different ways. Maybe that’s why it doesn’t sound so far off.
guest
VISIT http://WWW.LITTLEBROWNDRESS.COM !! This is the journal of someone who wore the same dress for 365 days!! VERY INTERESTING!!! Definately got me thinking.
guest
oh my god, i cannot even do anything like that, though it is an excellent idea. lol.

I like her name xD .. and wow, what a commitment!
Hahahhahha
guest
she looks damn good!
tulip / 17 posts
dang, she must have a LOT of accessories!
guest
Good for her. I wouldn’t do it because I like variety.
guest
well good for her.
but if she’s trying to prove uniforms can be made fun… ?
most schools don’t allow too much craziness. like…hats.
guest
i could probably do it for about two weeks, then I’d want to wear something new. I think it is a cool idea though!
guest
That might be fun actually
guest
i dont think i can do that…. for a month, maybe…
guest
Well, for me, a week maybe… That girl’s so cool!
guest
that sounds awesome, but i wouldn’t do it. it sounds too hard for some unknown reason.
guest
Yes, if it was versatile.
guest
I couldnt do that…It would be too much. And Im not that good with fashion.
But good for her though! And helping a good cause!
guest
that is REALLY cool. kudos to her for her creativity
guest
It’s a project to promote sustainability yet she has to have seven of the same dress? Is anyone else seeing the irony here?
guest
that’s amazing..
orchid / 217 posts
Well personally I don’t wear dresses…I don’t like my legs so I wear jeans a lot…But…for a good cause I would definately take on the challenge. =)
(I like the first pic better)
guest
Amazing!
guest
Wow, that is amazing!
guest
I don’ think i could.
guest
Nope
guest
oh crap, that sound fun. x]
guest
wow, i wish i was that creative(:
guest
I am hopelessly distracted by the ludicrous idea that children who don’t even have a school, need school uniforms more importantly than teachers, and books, and supplies…
daisy / 512 posts
that’s interesting… i’m too fashion-dead to do that though. make me take the challenge and i’d probably wear the dress three different ways – one that is appropriate for summer, one that is appropriate for spring/fall, and one that is appropriate for winter. i’d love to see pictures of her progress
sunflower / 487 posts
I may not have done that particular dress, but i think i could do it =)
guest
I think it’s an awesome idea, but I doubt I’ll ever survive..I love fashion and clothes too much =[
guest
It’s looking pretty good so far. I’d give her props and wish her good luck.
guest
It’s nice of her to do this for charity, but it’s not all that special – I’m sure Steve Jobs can easily take up the challenge. :p
guest
i thought she was gonna wear one piece of clothing for 365 days without washing and everything.
cherry blossom / 41 posts
awesome idea. i could totally do it, nothing is better than a cute, well fitting dress!
guest
Kudos to her for such a creative way of charity. I love the 3rd outfit, very cute.
I’d love to attempt it, im pretty creative; although I highly doubt I could “remain fashionable” at the same time
guest
this is assuming you are in a place where you can accessorize. ever lived in 120 degree arizona summer heat? yeah, no tights and things for sure. i do my best to reinvent my clothing so i know all about this but the heat makes it hard.
guest
oh my god.
if she could do it,
i’d wanna see the pictures.
she`d be my idol o.o”
guest
I don’t think this is sustainable at all. Yes, she wears the same 7 dresses, but she has SO MANY accessories. In the end though, I guess she’s sorta on the right track.
guest
That sounds interesting, but wouldn’t she end up spending a lot on accessories….and tights?
Instead of a dress, I’d wear a shirt & jeans for 365 days. I think that is less conspicuous

guest
wouldn’t it be cold in the winter time?
guest
i would do that.
guest
To be honest, that’s kind of gross…even if it is washed.
guest
I think its a great cause because it is intereasting enough to get people to notice…….and I would deff do it if I where more fashionable but I m sure I would run out of spice up the dress ideas after the first week
guest
I’d do it.
guest
it seems like a good cause except since she needs different accessories everyday for a whole year then its not keeping with the whole sustainability issue is it?
guest
As long as you get to clean them, then it’s a fantastic idea. You can really utilize anything for a fundraiser and that’s great, I hope it becomes a success and helps the education system a lot.
guest
that’s really creative!!
good luck to her!
guest
I could probably do it, there are many ways to spice up a simple classic black dress and people wouldn’t even notice it was the same dress. I love taking old clothes I have and adding accessories and things to it to make it look new.
Good luck to her!
guest
http://paulslittlesecret.xanga.com/706247577/you-dont-have-to-be-ashamed-anymore/?empty=true
guest
honestly if she could wear the same clothes (as in shirt, pants, socks, underwear, bra) for 365 days of the year that would be pretty fucking impressive, but idk. I really DONT KNOW. I meant that is chill but she is still changing her style a lot, I know I probably WOULDN’T do it, but still….I’m sure people throughout the world wear the same clothes 24-fucking-7.
guest
For the entire fourth quarter of high school, senior year. I wore the same t-shirt every day…. well, I did have multiple copies of the same shirt….
guest
i’d love to do this, with the right hair, shoes and accessories i can make this look like a different dress each time.
guest
Oh no I couldn’t do it although I admire her gallant efforts.
guest
I totally could do that.
I do that anyway … take one simple, dress … and funk it up with accessories and that. bingo, new outfits everytime =]
guest
Something like this was already done.
http://www.littlebrowndress.com/brown%20dress%20archive%20home.htm
But it is a good challenge and makes you stop and think that we really do have way too much.
guest
Good luck to her!!!
I’ve kind of followed suit and am sorting out all my old dresss – i’ve posted pictures of me wearing them in my latest blog – would really like some people to rate them and let me know ehther i should keep it or burn it!!!!
WOULD LOVE YOUR ADVICE PLEASE
XXX
guest
That’s really cool. =)
guest
i guess its not really that big of a deal. I mean, if she has to add accessories all the time its not really sustainable fashion. Wearing the exact same dress, not 7 copies of the same dress, with a limited number of accessories would impress me more.
But Im a cynical asshole like that.
Im glad the silliness is going to a good cause at least.
guest
No.. I don’t wear dresses.
guest
The accesories… I never use them, so I cannot wear the same dress for a year. For suuuure.
I like this whole idea though!
guest
Ehh, I probably wouldn’t last a week. I think it’s so cool that she’s supporting a cause though.
cherry blossom / 35 posts
I’m sorry but I don’t think I could do it. I would get very frustrated with that dress. I hope she does it though

I hope she washed it! Ewww!

wow, i was looking through each day and i must say, she has got to be one of the most creative people ive ever seen
guest
wow.

No, I’m not sure I could wear the same dress for a whole year — but I commend her for it.
orchid / 101 posts
That’s awesome. I wish I could do that. Her styles already look very different – it doesn’t look like she’s wearing the same thing. Very cool.
guest
I’d love to try this…..
i have zillions of bizarro tights and belts that could work….
guest
that is kinda cool, I wonder if I would last this long
guest
How creative. Isn’t this sort of what people who have to wear a uniform everyday have to do? Great for showing that there are many ways to change a look and you don’t need a lot of money to do it. Depending on your accessories, the outfit can be dressy or not.
sunflower / 271 posts
yeah props for the cause but i don’t think i’d have the patience or time to try to dress it up differently everyday
guest
yah that’s cool. =)
guest
I would love to do that. /fucking adorable, too!
guest
Fasionable and helpful. YES!
guest
I think it’s awesome because it shows that you can still express yourself in a uniform and that you don’t need a ton of clothes in order to be stylish, which in turn saves money and helps the environment. The only turn-off is that she chose a black dress. She should be a little braver. =]
guest
awww, i’m not so sure I could, but good for her!
guest
I find myself wearing clothes I like a lot quiet a bit more often than those I don’t favor quite as highly. I think I could easily take on this challenge. It would be fun to see what different combos you could come up with! I think fashion is in the eye of the beholder… because seriously… ugg boots were once and still are in some areas hugely fashionable. They’re called “ugg” on purpose, you know.
guest
wao. thats clever n very fashionable. but its super hard..
guest
If it wasn’t a dress, I might do it. I never wear dresses unless I have to. ><
Oh, and what about in the winter? Going out for a night with your friends in that would kinda suck, unless you wore some warm tights, or a long coat, lol.
As for the concept of being able to wear one thing 365 ways, I know I could do that. I actually have a black dress, but I’d have to see just what I could pull off with it. Anything’s possible for a good cause, though.

OK…Is she doing it as a publicity stunt to attract charity donors? Because she is not saving any money since she is spending money on all the accessories to make the dresses look different.
orchid / 173 posts
This is a worthy cause, but I think the money she`s using to buy accessories to make each outfit different could just be donated to the Akanksha Foundation instead. But I totally give her props for all that creativity.

guest
I should try this
guest
@miz_shirley@xanga - how is it a hassle? same dress every day–we typically wear a completely different outfit every day–all she has to do is pile on accessories or a cardigan. calling is a hassle doesn’t make any sense!
guest
It’s a good way of practicing her creativity, and I like the idea that it’s going towards a cause. I don’t think I would be able to do that for so long because I would get bored way too easily with the dress. Kudos to her for doing so though!
guest
wow , even though it’s for a good cause i don’t think i could do it = [
i would most deff. try , though i don't know that i would succeed = ]
guest
hey i ddnt notice she was wearing the same one, until i looked a little closer at her
this is good
guest
Honestly, if i did this i would give up and not bother putting the effort in to accesorieze it.
Wear it plain.
And good for her. and the cause!
guest
no. but it looks like she improved it along the way.
guest
i agree it is really cool but its black which means its going to fade… so good luck making it look totally awesome in 6 months… but i guess gray works too?
guest
I really don’t think I would be able to do that, but this idea is just.. AWESOME! =]
guest
You would have to be really inventive to make the same dress look different every day and people not think you are doing that but with enough accessories, shoes, belts, hats, and stuff i think i could be done. however even with a closet full of clothes i have a hard time putting together an outfit so i couldn’t do that challenge but at least she’s doing it for a good cause!:)
guest
that’s awesome but I couldn’t do that. she has true style.
guest
I’d love to do something like that :]
and i think i could… i just wouldn’t know how to accessorise!
i like that its for a good cause aswell =] atleast its not just completely pointless.. lol x
guest
That’s going to be cold in the winter.
guest
Well I don’t think she’d have to necessarily come up with 365 different versions. I mean, she can recycle what she wore one day too. Just like we don’t have a different outfit per day. So it’s very possible. I think I would just get bored of my clothes, though.
guest
I seriously don’t think I could do that. I don’t think I have the fashion creativity for that.
<3
guest
I don’t that I am that clever or stylish. I may try to do this at a later date, but I’m not sure that I could pull it off.
