I found this American Apparel foil print nylon dress in teal and think it rides the fine line of being very in the moment and fabulous, and yet potentially trashy and laughable. It is definitely an 80′s throw back with the skin tight cut and bright metallic color, but the wild decade is back in fashion. I like its simple lines and color and think it has potential to be worn quite well. Would you wear it?
I think I would wear it but would to ascertain how – what would be the best accessories? I don’t particularly care for American Apparel’s styling shown below, with the black stocking and silver shoes. It looks like a parody rather than a modern girl going out on the town. Perhaps I could wear it with black ankle booties and nothing else – keep it simple.
What do you think? How would you style this wild dress?
guest
I wouldn’t be caught dead in that. At least, I hope not.
guest
no its too tight. i hate tight long sleeves
rose / 770 posts
That looks awful.
guest
Nope, wouldn’t wear it. It looks 80′s skank-ish..
daisy / 526 posts
No, definitely not. Then again I don’t trust a company that’s trying to bring scrunchies back.
dahlia / 2012 posts
It looks like a gymnast’s leotard that was turned into a dress.
I hate 80′s style and wouldn’t wear that dress.
guest
Maybe, it if it was on the sale rack and for less than fifteen dollars.
My combination: Black tights underneath, a neutral colored jacket/top over it so it looks a little less extreme, and dark colored accessories. Dark colored shoes of any type would work well (Converse, dark boots), as long as they cover the feet.
guest
American Apparel has some hot stuff, I love ordering online…but I doubt I’d wear this – unless i was attending an 80′s party
guest
without the sleevess
guest
Hail no.
guest
Nope!
guest
Ew.. no.
orchid / 183 posts
I might wear it, but I definitely wouldn’t bend around all awkwardly like the model in the picture.
guest
American Apparel never fails to boggle my mind with fun to look at but impossible to wear in real life clothing.
I would only wear this if it was short sleeved and a bit looser so it could be worn over jeans. As is it’s a no go. I think I’d look like a ho.
guest
I think this has potential. Just the model doesn’t look good with it. There’s something about her knees that really grosses me out.
guest
eww
guest
I think it’s what you thought it might be: trashy and laughable.
guest
The problem with dresses like this is that they accentuate your every curve, even the ones you don’t want people to notice. I think you could only pull off this dress if you were very skinny with a flat stomach.
I think the model wears it rather well. I like the color, but it is a bit too tight and short for me. I’d wear it to an 80′s party, but I don’t think I would in real life.
cherry blossom / 37 posts
I absolutely adore it!!!!!! I would wear it out. If I had her body =/ Ive got curves everywhere
guest
i like your idea about the boots, but i’d maybe throw a jacket or vets of some sort over it just to add something that isn’t quite so scandalously tight. like a baggy black blazer or something.
guest
Personally, I don’t like the dress…it’s too short and looks like metallic spandex. But if I were to wear it, I would go with the black booties that you suggested, but I would also keep the black hose and add on a black, thigh-length coat/jacket. That would be more workable in my opinion.
guest
I like it, but I’d only wear it to a party or a dance…somewhere I was expected to dress like that. It looks to 80′s/skanky for everyday life.
orchid / 190 posts
no way too skin tight!

maybe to like a really weird concert or something. i could see this at a mgmt concert for some reason… HIGH HEELS. i’d say silver jewelry.
guest
I couldn’t.
Maybe if I was super skinny with no imperfections…. x__x
daffodil / 1975 posts
Holy crap…no way! I wouldn’t want to be mistaken for a hooker or something.
guest
No way for me!
guest
maybe if i got drunk and managed to lost every last speck of my dignity.
guest
I can never pull that shit off.
DAMNN. BOOTY!
guest
I don’t think it suits me.
guest
I like how you can see the tag! If I had her body I’d wear it, I like the boot idea and then adding a jacket would make it less trashy, black or dark accessories would be best.
guest
if i was still in great shape i would wear it LOL
right now i would look like a python that just ate an extremely large meal haha

i love it, people on this xanga are too boring and unadventurous. I bet they’re the girls to stick to their safe tanktops and jeans. you buy it!
guest
I love those dresses. I’d definitely keep it simple. I like the idea you came up with. Or, I’d put it with some sheer black tights (like the ones in the pic) and some medium-heeled pumps…which I guess is exactly the way it’s styled in the picture. Nevermind.
guest
i don’t like how skin tight it is… i would be better if it was more, flow like and not so trashy looking.
guest
This would be extremely hard to pull off.
guest
i like it, but i wouldn’t wear it.
daisy / 728 posts
sorry, i m not brave enough
guest
If I was still a stripper, maybe I’d wear it on stage.
guest
I love the 80′s. I love the color of the dress.
And I wouldn’t wear it unless I was thrown naked onto an iceberg and that was all I had. And even then, I might consider that the extra 2 minutes it would add onto my life wouldn’t be worth it.
I can’t imagine any setting, even the aforementioned 80′s parties, were it wouldn’t be just trashy with no redeeming qualities.
Except the color. Because I really like the color.
guest
@miau_chiu@xanga - I was voted Most Uniquely Dressed in a high school in California that had over 2000 students. To the best of my knowledge, no one has ever called me boring and/or unadventurous. But no one has ever called me trashy, either, so that’s probably why I still would never wear this dress.
guest
i wouldn’t wear it. it wouldn’t look good on me
guest
@atlantisere@xanga - nice one, very impressive. but with that said then surely you dont need to approval of people off xanga to buy this dress? you just go get it! i think you should anyway. Im already looking into it myself
Im actually currently sporting these socks today http://store.americanapparel.co.uk/rsaskth6.html
with a purply patterned dress i got years ago. maybe i just love american apparel too much…
guest
Save the money and go naked.
guest
If I had the body to wear it and if I had an appropriate occasion to wear it to…then yes.
guest
Gross.
sunflower / 295 posts
yes if it was in white..or light pink.
but if i went to dinner in that, it could be a problem, because i am greedy and my tummy would need more room.
sunflower / 490 posts
thats… a dress? ….
..
..
guest
not for a million bucks!….well okay maybe for a million bucks but THATS IT! this dress is like….how do you BREATH in that?!
guest
id never wear that unless i became a hooker
guest

It looks like a competition gymnastics leotard.
guest
I dislike American Apparel. They sexualize the women’s clothing to a ridiculous extent.
guest
Those poses are a bit far from modest.
But yes, I would wear it. The colour is just too lovely. x
orchid / 126 posts
wtf, i would
guest
Aye! Hell no. I’d feel so self concious….and paranoid about flashing everyone.
guest
no way jose..love the color though maybe as an eyeshadow lol
orchid / 154 posts
I like it. maybe it’s the 80′s child in me. I would never be able to wear it, you’d have to be very skinny. (and long, tight sleeves ARE bothersome) But I’ve really been into the color teal lately. So, contrary to popular opinion it seems, I give it a Thumbs Up.
guest
I don’t even think the model can pull it off. Nylons?
If it were free, and going to a Halloween party…I would rock it. Other than that, get something else!
guest
I would wear it to go down water slides on my belly, weee!
guest
That dress only fits anorexic looking models. Look at the girl wearing it, she’s skinny as a stick!
guest
Pass.
guest
Maybe with a flowy white peasant style skirt and another layer. Bring it back one more decade.
guest
I’d definitely wear what!
…. as a shirt.
guest
I’d wear, it in a size bigger than me, with leggings and maybe a black peep toe pump. that dress is way to short to worn with out something under it, unless people like looking trashy.
guest
hey it’s whatever floats your boat lady. fuck’em!
@Dare2BDiferentt@xanga - lol. dude pitcuring you in that dress with that afro….. ahhhhhjajajajaja.
guest
heck yes i would, i love AA i wouldent wear it like the girl in the picture and if i did i would add a belt either black or of a bright color. plus you have to look at it as most of AAs stuff like that is either ment for urban look or layering =] love it!
guest
eWw.
guest
that would make EVERYONE look like a fatty. even people who aren’t fatties.
MAYBE giselle bunchen (spelling?) could wear it. maybe. not dissing anybody else, just saying. you have to be a goddess, and i’m an atheist.
guest
PLEASE don’t tell me you plan on wearing it in broad daylight. That’s not what this style is meant for.
I would wear it in a club, not on the street.
Never on the street in lame(accent on the “e”)!! I don’t care who you are, just trust me on this one.
If you want to be a modern girl out on the town, get it in black and don’t risk looking like you are trying too hard.
guest
LOL
Wow, take the eighties back!
I would never wear that, ever. Even if I had no lumpy areas on my body to be seen…its a little too trash and too little retro….
Perhaps without the sleeves and not as tight a fit so you do look like a gymnast that took too much crack.
guest
@Dare2BDiferentt@xanga - Aw, but it would do wonders for your figure.
guest
the sleeves are too long and i’m too fat for that dress anyway!
guest
I think this would look great on someone who has the right body type. But in all honesty.. What doesn’t look smashing on thin women? I’d say to pair it with either opaque black leggings and black booties/heels.. Thing is, with a dress like this, you must wear something with height to make your legs and body look more defined.
guest
LOL, no. I would not wear that dress.
guest
at a disco or Studio 45
orchid / 119 posts
over my dead freaking sexy body.
guest
I don’t like it with the tights or shoes. But with ankle booties? Definitely. That would be really really cute, actually.
guest
If I didn’t wear a 32F and it came in tall to make it longer, I’d wear it with footless tights and high heeled gladiator sandals.
guest
Nopeee. Don’t like it.
guest
in the bedroom
guest
If I toned up my stomach a lot.
Definitely.

sorry my ass is too big to be in that. i’ve got curves + that dress is made for someone who’s a size 00-2 + since i’m not either why fake the funk?
guest
maybe if it was red and i had a black motorcycle jacket and black combat boots and a studded belt! i’d be like those biker chicks hiyeah
guest
To a school dance! They often have crazy themes for which this dress if perfect.
guest
omggg as soon as i saw the pic i knew it was AA….I LOVE THIS STORE. it is absolutely amazing. their stuff is so innovative and chic and sophisticated…but kinda pricey but ive learned to just suck it up and shrug it off…their stuff is worth it.
but i understand where your coming from the stuff that they sell is really cute and you’re thinking god this would be SO HOT to wear out and this model wears it so well….but then u snap back into reality n think about it on you and whered u wear it to and then your like…uh ok. maybeeee not. cause outside of the AA website u may end up lookin a bit tacky and….whorish.
buttt i still love their stuff i need to get more!!
guest
i’d wear it.
guest
no. you have to have no curves or fat to wear that thing!!
guest
I can’t get with that…….
guest
I think it’s ok, but I wouldn’t wear it.
guest
I’d wear it.
guest
uhm..
thats ugly. relaly ugly.
guest
I think it is really cute..yep I would rock it
guest
Not working for me.
guest
I love it. o_o
I wouldn’t be comfortable in supertight longsleeves… but my friend would totally do it, and I probably would too. We’re always rockin new/old styles or anything we like. And I like this. It’s awesome. The colour especially.
daffodil / 1607 posts
mmm the form of the dress looks as if it’s meant for clubbing. However, the metallic sheen just says …way to trashy.
orchid / 171 posts
That’s creepy.
guest
i wouldn’t wear it. erm ew haha
guest
I’d wear it if I was slim.
guest
no way.
guest
i would rock that shit if it weren’t for the sleeves
guest
No.
guest
NO.
sunflower / 408 posts
i would never…in my entire life….wear something as truely horrifying as that.
guest
yeah looks like a cut up scuba diver suit. nah i like to feel like i’m wearing clothes rather than skin tight apparel
guest
With the right shoes and the right night club this dress can definitely be pulled off.
guest
maybe.
guest
This isn’t a dress it’s an poorly-fitted t-shirt
guest
ew, no way.
guest
no. just no. maybe if i had the body, yes. but no. lol.
guest
I don’t know. I like the color and everything, but I can’t imagine when an appropriate time would be to wear it. Or HOW to wear it, for that matter, in a way that wouldn’t come off as trashy.
guest
i’d wear it with black leggings, black ankle boots, and a scarf or somethin. more of a wintery look, i guess. i just dont think it’d be a good idea to wear that without nothin on your legs… hahaah, if the skin tight-ness isn’t scandulous already.
i think it’s hot shit though, i don’t know what everyone else is whining about
guest
I would wear it with black jeans and b/w chucks. Very Tina Turner
guest
chea…no. I wouldn’t wear it. boobs too big. it would look nice though with song leggings.
guest
I wouldn’t. It’s not my style, and wouldn’t look good on me anyway. I’m not sure it would look good on too many people. If you do wear it though, I wouldn’t really accessorize much. Just some cute black heels, to try to tone it down a little.
guest
ew, no! hahahah
guest
hmm, no, i don’t think so. but the heels go well with the dress.
guest
i would wear it if i had a model figure.
daisy / 723 posts
I think I could wear it. On a gothic discothèque or party, with huge boots (platerform), leggings. Or with escarpins with hight heels and leggings (don’t want that people see my underwear or worse !!).
But I think that during all night I must think “wow I have a big belly” “wow I have a big bottom”.
guest
nope it looks trashy
cherry blossom / 33 posts
maaybe. probably i’d go up a size so it’s not that tight, and with tights underneath, massive chunky necklace and boots haha cauz it’s winter here
guest
i wouldn’t even if it fitted me, i don’t have the body to wear this kind of clothes but i def dont like it
guest
Never. Too clingy, and way too old for me anyways.
guest
I’m pretty sure nobody would want to see me wear that dress.
guest
you have to be even skinnier in the model to pull that off.
guest
Definitely not.
guest
I would definitely pass on wearing that. It reminds me too much of a really bad leotard, and I get enough of that in dance.
orchid / 180 posts
TOO TIGHT. That dress is tighter than any bathing suit I own.
guest
i love it,
but i think if you were to wear it, you should alter the sleeves so they’re shorter
guest
No I would not, because I don’t have the right body type for it. I have curves, I’m not what you call “curvey” but I do have some. I’m 5’4′ and like 115lbs. I have also tired on one of their tight dresses beofore, it looks like that but it’s like spandex and some other type of material. I think it looks ugly and cheap but, I wouldn’t mind wearing it if it would look good on my body and it was made well. But it looks very tight and it doesn’t look like it would feel good against your skin, so no to sum it all up I would not wear it. I just wish American Appareal would make more clothes that you don’t have to be like 5’10 and weigh like 90lbs to look good in.
guest
It kinda looks like the Star Trek uniforms.
guest
I wouldn’t wear this. My brothers would kick my ass and my mom would to if she didn’t have a heart attack first. It’s a bit too shirt and tight. I think it would be different without sleeves and cut into a more feminine silhouette
guest
negative.
daisy / 558 posts
I’d wear it. Without it looking skanky of course. With something underneath like pictured above.
guest
i would wear it out to the club or for drinks but i don’t really like the sleeves.
guest
i would definitely wear that! i like the tights and the shoes. it’s fabulous. :]
guest
if i was skinnier, maybe, but i would wear it with black opaque tights, ankle boots and a leather jacket and accessories, try to make it blend in a bit ^^

Rich Man, Poor Man, Beggar Man, Thief, all will go through the aging process. However, how well we endure that process will depend on the individual. Remember the old adage,” Take The Bull By The Horns” means we must do everything in our power to slow down the aging process. By slowing down the aging process, we are extending our life expectancy.
Many factors are involved in the aging process. All these factors impact the Respiratory, Cardiovascular, Nervous, Musculoskeletal, and the Immune Systems. Each system reacts to it’s own physiological makeup. Therefore, how we treat these systems, and the environment in which we live in directly will determine the response to the aging process.

People would pay me big bucks NOT to wear that…I like it on her.
guest
I couldn’t wear it because it would make me look like a big monster.
Buttt, if it would look nice on me I’d definitely wear it. I think some people could pull it off, as long as it doesn’t turn out, as you said, too trashy.
guest
no, no, no. yeurgh. Too skintight.
guest
omg. thats horrendous.
guest
I wouldn’t. Unless I were experimenting with prostitution.
guest
no because it kinda looks like one of the oulfits gymnasts wear for competitions and stuff also a dress that tight is sure to show off every little curve but the color is nice
guest
trashy.
guest
Saran-rap is branching into the fashion industry now? Wow. They are really trying to do too much.
guest
Noo
guest
LOL if i wore that people would go blind. i sure hope that they arent making that in sizes beyond size 6 LOL anyone bigger just would notttttttttttt look good, and as tight as that is, im sure sizes 0-6 wouldnt look good either because it’d show every bone sticking through the skin.
guest
i hate shiny material clothes, especially those tights that are also coming back
wouldnt u get hot in a material like this? and its too tight on the skin but the model has a good body
guest
possibly after i lose twenty pounds and grow at least seven inches.
guest
I don’t like American Apparel’s adverting all that much, so I’m not sure if I’d want to support the company? Though, I think the products are American made, so, Maybe I would.
If I was thinner I may wear that. It might be good for an occasional [special] night out, but definitely not for every-day use.
guest
only if you paid me a pretty good amount!!!
guest
absolutely, i love american apperal, and love the 80′s decade… anything outrageous and different
guest
never. it looks so uncomfortable and the color is gross.
guest
I’ve been looking at the dress for a few minutes now.
I was thinking, maybe if you dressed it down with an oversized black cardigan and some plain flats…
no. It’s just a big fashion no-no, no matter how hard you stare at it.
I’d wear that to costume parties, though!
guest
if i was stick skinny and still had an ass and tits, then hell yea id wear it
but this dress is so tight that it makes your tummy buldge out and it makes ur ass look flat…which is why the model is posing the way that she is
guest
I wouldn’t cos I’d look ridiculous.
guest
I would get clausterphobic in that dress…..Like srsly!
peony / 3 posts
Personally, I wouldn’t wear it, because I couldn’t pull it off!
But if you could go for it!
Id say wear it with black boots that go at least up to the knee with a nice stiletto heel!
Add some silver accessories and a clutch or handbag and you’re good to go!!
Hope I helped!!
guest
@SoHoian_NightOwl@xanga - Every time I wear a dress like that my boyfriend and I don’t get any sleep! The real question is do you have a good boyfriend?
