It’s my birthday today. I don’t feel any different. I think that birthday’s get lamer when you get older. Which is kind of backwards, if you think about it, but isn’t that the case?
When you’re younger, you have family (well, most people do, I didn’t) that remembers your birthday and those are the people your parents invite to your party. Or you invite your whole 4th grade class to go play mini golf.
But as you get older, your friends have their own plans and you grow distant from family members. Also, there’s the factor that you start paying for your own things. If you go to the movies, you’re paying for your own ticket and snacks instead of having someone else take care of everything. As you get older, money is harder to come by. I also stopped getting cakes years ago, which is pretty depressing.
Then there are those celebrities that throw big birthday bashes that costs thousands of dollars just for one day. Hilary Duff flying to Hawaii for her sweet sixteen and Miley Cyrus having her sixteenth birthday at Disneyland are just two examples. Those kinds of people can
always have extravagant birthday parties and will usually have some kind of memorable story for each year. But what about the rest of us?
Do you guys feel that birthday’s aren’t as memorable as they were when you were younger? Or is it just me that misses my childhood birthday’s and how simple things were back then?
guest
Yeah, it just makes me feel older. -____-
I don’t really make a big deal out of my own birthday (but there is that free Disneyland ticket on your birthday lol).
Happy Birthday (:

more memorable when you’re younger

Happy birthday!
Yeah, I often feel that way, too. My 20th is coming up in September, and I am not excited at all for it…

Every year is more precious when you’re a child because everything is new and ever-changing. When you’re an adult, you still have to go to work the next day and nobody really cares that you’ve gotten a year older.
guest
I feel the same! My birthday is coming up soon and I’m just not going to do anything. For the past few years, I had a horrible time at my birthday parties…so yeah
Happy birthday btw!!!
guest
Pfft, I get stuff.
That’s all that has ever mattered to me. ;x
guest
happy birthday. but no i don’t think my birthday matters anymore. it’s all just another day of the year. to me at least
guest
i guess it’s true unless you have someone to celebrate your birthday with for the rest of the year. i never had big birthday parties so it doesn’t bother me too much. i just get happy when people tell me happy birthday and give me hugs. oh, and happy birthday!!

Of course they are important. You’re celebrating the day you were born! I think people should concentrate more on being thankful they lived another year & count their blessings rather than complain they’re a year older. My birthday is next Friday & I cant be happier. I’m not having a party but I’m celebrating in my own way!
And I do think parties that are over the top are weird. I mean spending in one day what the average joe/jane makes in a year? I prefer simple things. I spent my Sweet Sixteen with my mom, grandma & 2 best friends & that was the best day ever for me.

certain “landmark” birthdays are more fun than others. 21 was pretty awesome.
guest
nuuu i dont have any…… i guess the only special one i had was my sister brought me to coney island park ~_~ and others were just celebrated with ice cream cakes and having dinner home or outside.
guest
I’d agree with you that birthdays aren’t what they used to be. As an adult, there’s less time for appreciation of birthdays and get-togethers. Instead of a personal holiday (can still be), it’s a sign you’re getting older. Still, happy birthday. If your friends do celebrate it with you, know that your birthday celebration is more meaningful than celebrities’.
guest
happy birthday!
i think i just prefer simpler birthdays as i get older.

have a birthday party like you’re eight again! no one said birthday’s have to change!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Darling
My birthday is my most favorite day of the year
And it doesn’t matter if I have a party or none. The fact that it’s my birthday makes everything special for me. hehe

My birthday is never important. A friend of mine has the same birthday as me, and she always gets the most attention mostly because people like her more… it’s annoying. Every year I dread it. It makes me hate her for at least 24 hours.

That just goes to show you celebs have way too much money, well anyways happy birthday[:

my friend said that “it’s a year closer to your death”, but I like birthdays, i like presents, esp. giving them! my birthday, just plans itself. but i usually say, “How young are you?” instead of “How old are you”

I haven’t had a birthday party since I was 16. Even then, my parties only consisted of about four close friends coming over for a sleepover. Kind of depressing?

Happy Brithday
My birthday is Decemeber 22nd. I hate it. People say I’m lucky cause I get twice the presents but it makes no sense. I should get the same amount of presents as anyone else. But I end up with a few presents on Christmas and MAYBE a birthday cake but that’s rare. It’s not a big deal to me anymore, though. I spend my birthdays getting tattoos and just chillin with friends now

well happy birthday…mines was on sunday. i think birthdays are especially important for the person who’s celebrating it. of course you’re not going to feel any different just yet, but it takes time getting used to.

Happy Birthday~~ mine is on the 26th (one and a half more days!) and i’ve been thinking about this recently too

@B1ANCACACA@xanga - i couldn’t sympathize with you more. mines december 23rd! when i was little i used to get presents on my b-day, on the 24th and on the 25th (see one side of the family one day and one another) but now, its like everyone lumps xmas and my b-day all in one. i feel so cheated. and every time like in the summer when i want something i cant afford people say “ask for it for your birthday” yeah like anyone (including me sometimes) is going to remember i want it!
i do believe people should celebrate in some small way anyway. its not how old you are its that your here in the first place
and of course… HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

@Passion_Star@xanga - yeah it sucks
But the one good thing is that school is guaranteed to be on break
I wouldn’t wanna go to class on my birthday :p
guest
i can totally relate to this
i feel birthdays are getting less important as i grew older
anyways, happy birthday =)
guest
I enjoy my birthday as much as I enjoy getting birthday wishes (!and presents) from my loved ones.
Happy Birthday to you!
Now you’re a year older…. :p
guest
Once you’re old enough to drive, vote, and drink, there’s really not much significance attached to birthdays. Unless you count being reminded that yet another year’s flown by already. Still, it’s a nice excuse to treat yourself a little bit special for a day.

happy birthday!
i think birthdays are important to me that’s why i’ll always feel sad when not many people i’m close with celebrates it for me. i’ll feel really insignificant (hahaha ya so emotional). since i was young, i never had a memorable birthday until this year’s.

I think between the ages of 1-18 they were a big deal for me, but now I just do not care I think after that you should only do something big on your 21st and then every big 10 after that (30, 40, 50). But other then that on my birthdays I just want to maybe spend the day with a few friends and do something I enjoy like shopping, movies, maybe dedicate the day to six-flags (but thats every few years at the most). I usually always get my favorite dinner with my family. But no birthday celebration since I was like 12.

happy belated bdae.
Mine falls on the exam period, so nobody have much time to celebrate them. So
i kinda get used to it. haha

Birthdays are more fun when celebrated. Celebrations were funner as a kid. Still, when you are older it is fun if your friends take you to a club or buy you a drink, or gift or card or something. But mostly it is little more than just another day at my age. (59 tomorrow! Yeaaa!)

my 21st bday was abt 11 days back..and i didnt feel any difference!i was like ‘okay well its jst my bday.’thats it.even tho i had gone to the beach n all wid the family.still it wasnt like omg or watever.

oh belated Happy B-day!
Since I turned 21, which was the big bang.. and now looking at my 22nd in a months time, I’m feeling very underwhelmed by the whole experience. No more flashy birthdays for me I don’t think, noone seems to care so much once you pass the big ‘mile-stones’ like 16, 18, 21. Of course my family would always try and do something for me, but other than that, I don’t know how to even bother celebrating it anymore. lol.

i cried this year because not only was it the fifth year in a row that i didnt do anything, but because it was mostly school’s fault. i always have finals around my birthday and am restricted to studying, even afterwards im busy so i cant even see family
but i guess you’re right that they get worse each year because each birthday just means one more year closer to death
guest
Mmm, I do get excited at the prospect of my birthday approaching but when the day comes, it actually always feels like it’s just another day.

happy late birthday
