I have this bad relationship with my hair. It is straight and boring. I never learned how to do my hair. I own a flat-iron, but rarely use it. It needs some serious body and I don’t know how to get it. I was thinking about buying some cheap hair rollers, but I’m not sure if that’s the look I want.
Does anyone else have straight boring hair? If so, what do you use to give it some volume?

i have boring stick straight hair that wont hold a curl.
What i do to give it volume is i sparingly apply hairspray at the roots when its wet then i blowdry it upwards to give it a lil poof.
And for volume on my side swept bangs i apply hairspray at the roots above my ears then blowdry it to the side.
It doesnt give me runway model volume but it adds a considerable amount to my straight hair.

i have straight, flat hair too.
I use a root booster on my roots and blow dry my hair upside down.
then I tease my hair at the roots, and use hairspray.
rollers would look cute, but don’t get really big ones or it will look funny.

Tease your roots around the crown and comb over straight hair.
Your hair will become much more voluminous.

trim the top of your hair(back) and some twists with hair clay will create natural volume.

I have straight hair but it has a crap ton of volume if I do it right. I blow dry it upside down, then using a big huge round brush, i take my bangs and some of the other hair behind it and wrap it around the brush, then use the blow dryer on the “cool” setting. Hold it there for like 10 seconds, then I work my way back to my crown. I usually end up with a mass of my hair in front of my face, but then I flip it back, find my part and i’m good.
After that I just use the round brush all over; if it’s a big enough round brush it just adds body and not curl (although I get a cute flip too)

I don’t blow-dry it. I tussle my hair after washing it and combing it and let it dry that way. Then, when it’s dry, I style it.

I have flat hair. What I do, is, when I get out of the shower add a nickel sized amount of EXTRA SUPER strength gel (the strongest you can find) and add that to the crown of my head. Then I blow dry my hair upside down, but not completely or you’ll get a really funny look. Since my hair isn’t COMPELTELY straight and has really stupid curls at the bottom I flat iron it after drying.
And then, I tease the crown of my head (where the gel was) the gel gives it kind of the texture your hair needs to hold that teasing. Some people tease without the gel and add hairspray to hold. I find that tends to weigh my hair down that way and the teasing just doesn’t stay as well for me in that manner.
I get all kinds of complements people asking me what my secret is to the volume I get in my hair. Lol.

just a little bit of hair gel from the roots =)

i have straight hairs, lots of layers and tiny wave at the layers (cuz of the hair cut), i barely do anything to it, but recently i started using some volumizing conditioner and stuff…if i have lots of time, i’ll hairspray the back and slighly backcomb it and straighten the bottom – but that doesnt happen very often…good luck tho

hair mousse can work wonders

try volumizing mousse and blow-dry your hair upside down. or u can tease the crap out of your roots!

get short layers cut in and TEASE TEASE TEASE. if it’s too dramatic for you, run a brush lighly through the top layers, but leave the bottom ones backcombed.

i have really flat hair! but to prevent this, i use a volumizing mousse, blow dry hair upside down. when it is half dry, put rollers at the roots then dry the rest of your hair! when thats done, take the rollers out and use hairspray to set the style! =]
after using the rollers, if its not that volumized, used a round brush and blow dry at the root using the hot setting then the cold setting straight after. then hairspray!

I’ve also got flat, straight, thin hair. When I want more volume, I use a volumizing mousse and then blow dry my hair upside-down. Most days though, I just blow dry with a round brush and concentrate on lifting my roots while I’m drying.
And if all else fails, like if I had a bad morning and didn’t get to blow dry, I’ll just curl it with a wide-barreled curling iron or heat curls. Big, loose curls always make my hair look fuller.

“Pump it up” mousse by big sexy hair is the best product I’ve found for volume so far. I’m a hairdresser and I have straight baby hair (by baby hair I mean straight, thin and fine. It looks like ghost hair haha) anyway, that’s the best thing I’ve come across. the spray in wax by paul mitchell is great for texture too, and it doesn’t weigh fine hair down. learn how to back comb correctly so you don’t look like a utah bimbo, if done correctly, it can do wonders for lifeless hair. Also, if you don’t mind going extreme, dying or bleaching your hair will open the cuticle enough to make it seem more voluminous. There are also demi-permanent solutions that can work. Demi- meaning a little more than semi permanent, but not permanent. You could get a demi-perm which is just big curls that doesn’t damage the hair, also a demi-gloss with no color that will just coat the hair and make it appear thicker. Ask your hair dresser for the details on the demi-solutions. That is not something you’ll want to do on your own. From one flat haired girl to another- hope this helps!

Here are some products that may help you out. Phytovolume if you’re willing to pay a little bit, Sunsilk’s yellow pump bottle (I can’t remember the name), and/or John Frieda’s Luxurious Volume Lift Root Booster and Mousse. They’re all marvelous! Also, have you ever tried Velcro rollers? I love them!
Let me know if you have any questions I can help you out with!

Yeah, I have straight & boring hair. When I want to wear it straight I try to blow dry it from underneath. I flip my head over and just shake the blower around everywhere without using a brush. I also bought a set of hot rollers, that I love. I have a set with different size rollers that I put in my hair about an hour or two before I go out. I wrap it in a shower cap so they don’t loosen up and. When I take them out I spray from underneath and tease with my fingers or brush (only a little bit though) to get sexy, wavy volume.

You can use clips and hair buns/ties to create different looks. There was a video a while back on Lovelyish that featured a fake hair bump underneath the top layer that gives you more volume. You could probably look it up on Youtube. I think some cute brooch hair clips would definitely give your hair a different look. I have straight, boring hair too so I try to mix it up by wearing it in pigtails, half ponytails, ponytails, buns, etc.

I also suffer from flat, straight thin hair which sucks when i want to style my hair a certain way..but here are some tips. I wash my hair (sometimes) with Redken Bodyfull shampoo..i avoid using conditioner when I want to tease my hair, it’s best not to use it for more hold/volume..make sure you rinse your hair in cold water for 30 sec daily, it helps stimulate hair growth! I put on damp hair, OSIS: volume shot, upload style volume cream & grip style super hold mousse (in those order)…then blow dry my hair upside down…style my hair then use Sebastian shaper plus hairspray at the end..hope this helps!

I’ve had professionals tell me that I’ll never get body in my hair. I read somewhere that if you flip your hair over and spray it w/ hairspray it will stay and give you the look of body. It works to an extent.

I have straight hair that I don’t color and I swear that Shielo’s Volume Line gives me more swing to my hair when I use it. I also use Shielo’s Volume Hairspray (its Flexible Hold) on my daughter sometimes and I notice that her flyaways are much neater after using the Shielo brand.
The scent is AMAZING!
I have also gotten compliments on the scent from people when my hair was dry. I recommend this shampoo to anyone who is looking to stretch out their haircut visits. Your hair stays healthy and smells great.

If you take a shower at night than you can braid your hair in one or two braids (depending on how much wave you want) and tie it off. Sleep with it like that and take it out in the morning. If your hair really is that thin and straight than it should be dry. If not than blow dry it upside down. What ever you do DO NOT comb or brush it or you’ll end up with an afro. You can hang your hair upside down and kink in some mousse or a light gel. Or you can just use a alight hair spray to hold the curl better. I don’t usually have to because I have thick blond hair that generally stays where I put it.
Hope that helps.
