My sister and I decided to walk to the grocery store yesterday for some groceries. We ended up paying mainly with one-dollar-bills and a lot of change. I quipped, "We're in a recession, people!" but we were in self-checkout and there wasn't a line anyway.

We also had to walk home with six bags of groceries, plus a watermelon. We kept ourselves going by chanting, "We love our planet." Okay, that sounds silly, but it worked!  So maybe we weren't the most chic girls transporting their groceries home, but we saved on gas money and didn't contribute negatively to the environment. These little changes can make a big difference in the long run.

What do you do to save money during the recession? What little ways do you help the environment? Would you rather be "chic" or help the planet?
