Okay, so this subject came up recently.
Shaving down there seems difficult. Like I tried once but cut myself so I quit, plus
I’m afraid it’ll itch like a whole bunch when it grows back?
I’m afraid to use Nair or something because like what if it got “in there,” if you know what I mean. Anyway, am I uber gross for not shaving down there? I need some advice. Do you think it’s bad? Should I just trim it?
Or should I get rid of it completely? If so how, how do I prevent it from itching?

guest
just shave downwards going with your hair, not against it and you wont get razor burn!
guest
shaving is best! it makes you feel cleaner all the time, just make sure you have a REALLY good shaving lotion.
orchid / 132 posts
I’d wax. It is painful at first, especially when you get to more sensitive areas, but it gets rid of all of it, quicker, and for a longer amount of time.
I’d be afraid to put a razor down there myself.
magnolia / 1296 posts
i personally shave it all off. going against the hair and everything. after you do it a few times, the skin gets used to it and doesn’t get cuts. plus i put aloe vera gel on it afterwards so i don’t get razor burn. (and i also find that shaving against the hair gives me less razor burn than when i didn’t… hmm)
you’re not gross
all girls are different.
it’s just a matter of what you prefer.
but i wouldn’t use nair or anything like that, like you said.
guest
i don’t know, i’m getting a really young vibe for you.
i wouldn’t worry about it for a long time. yikes.
guest
Personally, I think it’s gross when girls don’t shave it, but as long as it’s clean I guess you’re fine.
I shave it sideways. When I go with the grain, nothing comes off, but when I go against it I get cut. It just takes practice, knowing how to do it and knowing how to position yourself. As long as you wait a sufficient amount of time before shaving again, you won’t get razor burn. I usually do it once a week; if I wait any longer, then it starts to itch.
My suggestion is to never ever use Nair. I tried once and it hurt more than shaving ever could. You could try, maybe your skin is different than mine, but I don’t recommend it.
Good luck!
guest
It’s a very personal choice..
If you decide to shave, I recommend using aloe vera afterwards and make sure your razor is sharp enough
guest
shaving is an inherently sexist act. women are only beautiful if they are unnaturally hairless.
i trim, for my own comfort.
but please, don’t shave or wax. don’t do anything time consuming or annoying. you are only doing harm to yourself.
guest
I don’t have any tips for you because I’ve been dealing with the same issues, but I really appreciate your post so that I can see all of the different answers and ideas!
guest
Well I personally shave it all off. I just feel better, cleaner, whatever. Just keep lotioning if you do decide to shave and that will help with the itchiness. Also, if you have a full “beard” and decide that you want to get rid of it, make sure to trim it down as much as you can before actually shaving. That helps shorten shaving time, and I find that I also am less likely to get any little nicks.
It’s not gross at all to not shave. Like a lot of people have said, it’s a personal preference
. You can always just keep it trimmed, too. It’s totally up to you!
Definitely no Nair. If you decide to wax yourself, make sure the wax is for bikini areas. Then you are less likely to get irritated.
orchid / 222 posts
I dont shave “down under” and i dont think its gross. If i love someone enough to have sex with them they better not flip over somethong like that. Its a personal choice though
dahlia / 2942 posts
Don’t do it unless it’s really excessive/necessary. Think about when it grows back. Cactus town, USA.
guest
I use the intuition razor and it works great! You don’t have to worry about shaving gel or anything, it’s a little hard to get used to shaving between your legs with the bigger razor, but well worth it. I don’t itch or get razor burn anymore I’ve been doing it for so long…
Good Luck!!!
guest
I agree with what a lot of other people have said, unless you have a reason to, don’t. We have hair down there for a reason. I shave, but usually not all of it, just enough to keep myself neat and tamed. I’ve only ever shaved down there, but from my other experiences with Nair, don’t use it!! It basically burns the hair away and if you leave it on slightly too long, it burns the skin too. As far as waxing, I’m slightly scared to wax anything, but that’s just me. Shaving should not hurt at all. Don’t shave directly against the growth, when it starts to grow back, don’t shave again right away, that’s when it starts to hurt. Honestly, it take practice to figure out what works for yourself best.
guest
Are we talking just shaving the bikini line or the whole 9?
guest
i cant stand having hair “down there”. i use veet for the top half where i get cuts easily & where it hurts to shave, and then shave the rest where the hairs not as ..tender?
guest
I did trim the sides down when I swam regularly, but it gets very itchy and grows back prickly. I would say to just leave it, and shave/wax only if necessary.
guest
I prefer having myself bare down there. I shave it off and I go against the grain, and sideways kinda. It I shave in the direction of the hair it is not as smooth and harder to get all the hair gone.
I also wait as long as I can stand between shavings which prevents me from getting razor burn.
I say no to nair or wax too. I tried waxing and I only did one strip and gave up cuz it hurt so bad and it made me bleed. But that one little section did take a long time to grow back
guest
Try using a brow razor. They come in packs of three or four, and are small enough to get to your bikini line, and they don’t nick the skin. I have used Nair and Veet on the downstairs area, and I preferred Veet because it didn’t burn. However, I still prefer using a brow razor.
sunflower / 285 posts
Use a shaving lotion- not a ton of it just enough to get lotion onto the skin. Try using Skintimate with Aloe Vera, and shave either against or with the hair. Go slowly, and try standing in the shower or sitting- whatever is easiest. If you’ve never done it, try trimming first then shaving to avoid dulling the blade. Just remember to not press down, and don’t shave it every day to avoid razor burn and stubble.
guest
I have no advice to offer.
guest
It is a personal choice, personally I prefer to trim. Shaving causes me too much discomfort. When it starts to grow out it itches, and I can never get as close a shave as I want. I may try waxing but for right now I’m gonna stick with trimming.
guest
Getting a bikini wax is ideal, but then u have a growing out period, which I hate. Get Bikini Zone shave gel and you should have no problems. Also using a fresh razor helps. Make little x’s with ur razor and go slow, according to cosmo.
guest
@beetunes@xanga - yeah… her username says 1995.. meaning she’s probably 14….
guest
WAX!!!!! It’s cleaner.
guest
I’ve shaved once, and only once because I wanted to see what it was like. When it grew back it was uncomfortable as hell. It requires some frequent upkeep. So honestly? Don’t do it unless you find a real need to.
guest
It’s a bit of a process LOL but…in the summer you will sweat less there (and if you have a tendency towards B.O., smell less too) the bikini razors are good because they don’t scrape against the skin as much
1. trim excess with scissors, etc.
2. in a warm shower, gently exfoliate area after washing throughly
3. lather up with a nice thick shaving cream. i like crabtree & evelyn’s…it’s amazing! http://store.crabtree-evelyn.com/1410-san217003.html
4. get to work with a bikini razor. Noxzema makes a good one!
http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=166748&catid=89899&aid=335933&aparam=noxzema_shaving_bikini_s&CAID=fe0b5091-12a5-4fb2-bf00-37f0deb37808
5. wipe with some toner (carefully, carefully!)
6. use some good lotion or oil there!!!
guest
The only hair on my body is on my head. I don’t like the way hair feels on my body even if it is natural. I do the Brazilian wax. I started out having it done and slowly graduated to doing it myself. It doesn’t itch growing back because I don’t grow it back. I swim on a team and do some modeling and having no body hair just makes life easier for me. I am a huge hypocrite about body hair though because even though I hate it on myself I like a guy to have body hair. I think you do what you want to do whatever works for you and don’t feel pressured into anything.
guest
I shave it sideways kinda. Don’t use Nair or waxing… hurts like a b****.. though it takes a long time to grow back.
guest
I think you should experiment with different types of hair removal and see what works the best for you.
guest
Whatever you do, do not use Nair down there. You’ll bleed because it’ll burn you too much. It’s not meant for the really sensitive areas. I tried. That’s stuff is only for the bikini area. You use it on the entire area and you’re going to hurt.
As for shaving, it’s a little prickly and itchy at first but you get used to it and it doesn’t bother you after a while. Just don’t shave it everyday. And make sure to use aloe vera lotion or baby oil after.
@Blue_ButterflyBaby@xanga -
Not to be rude… but if you had nothing to say… wasn’t that a waste of a comment?
sunflower / 317 posts
I shave there. I hate hair anywhere else besides my head and eyebrows.
Just make sure that you have plenty of shaving cream and a sharp razor. You get a closer shave and less chance for nicks. Also, go slow. Never shave down there in a hurry.
orchid / 105 posts
do some trimming will be fine
up to one’s preference
guest
i personally am pro shave. i feel cleaner that way. as far as the tech of doing it, you have to try it out a few times and find out whats best for you. i dont like shaving it all off. i feel like a child who hasnt hit puberty when the whole area is so smooth. i like leaving a strip or some other fun shape.
while i dont think its gross really to be with a woman who is all natural, i do find it less of a hassle to have some sort of hair control when there is face close by.
but everyone has their own comfort level. you just have to find yours and stick to it.
guest
I shave all of mine off and I shave it every other day. I used to only shave twice a week so I wouldn’t get razorburn, but I read in a magazine that if you start shaving everyday or every other day for a month before “bikini season” your skin down there will toughen up and get used to the friction caused by shaving. I started doing that with a venus razor and my conditioner that I use for my hair and I don’t get as much razorburn as I used to. The only time I get razorburn now is if I wear underwear.. it’s so weird, but I get a rash along the bikini line whenever I wear underwear – even the seamless kind! I shave against the grain, by the way. I also put lotion on after so my skin won’t get irritated.
guest
trim it as close as you can get first, then shave with good shaving cream and a sharp razor. smooth on aloe vera after.
like @laurenmaureen@xanga - said, after you’ve been doing it for a while your skin gets less sensitive.
guest
use veet not nair… nair is evil…
guest
omgomg!
i’m going through the exact same thing hahah.use some lotion before you do it, it helps with the itching
thanks for subscribing!
guest
I don’t shave it all off, but I shave enough to keep it clean and trimmed, mostly on the sides of my legs and top. It was awful the first couple times, but my skin got used to it and I’m pretty alright now. I didn’t think it was gross that I didn’t keep it clean and shaven, but now I kind of do.
Use a good lotion and it’s help ease the uncomfortably stuff, but it goes away rather quickly.
guest
eww~
umm…spread ‘em wide, use a hands-free mirror, reliable and safe razor, if you want to shave it.
good luck.
guest
I had laser hair removal…so I don’t have to worry about it anymore.
One tip I have for when I did shave is: let the shaving gel or cream sit on your hair for a while. It will make the hair softer, so you won’t have to use as many strokes, which will help keep the razor burn to a minimum and decrease the cuts.
I also know some girls who use hair conditioner instead of shaving gels, because it makes the hair even softer.
guest
Well I shave, and it’s really irritating because I get itchy like every other day, and I have to keep doing it. I also got really bad nicks and razor burn before, too.
And also, I don’t shave all the area, just more than the bikini line. I wouldn’t suggest trimming, because that hurts really really badly. I tried it before, and I couldn’t wait until the hair grew back. And plus it made it really coarse.
So either leave it alone, do the bikini area, or dare to shave a bit more on the sides like I do..but be ready for the occassional itch! (I think if you shaved all of the area that the itching would be unbearable! Ahh..I dont even want to imagine..)
And I found that the gel called “Bikini Zone” is HORRIBLE! It doesn’t protect near enough, and I was just so frustrated. I would use a heavy shaving creme. Maybe even try Barbasol.
orchid / 163 posts
use soap. shave downward.

I’ve been shaving it all off for years; it’s so much better! Hair there is just plain itchy.
guest
@PenaltyLife@xanga - How is shaving harmful again?
sunflower / 484 posts
bite the bullet and wax! After the 3rd or 4th time it really isn’t bad at all! Promise. And it is so much more comfortable when it grows back.
guest
@blu_eyez717@xanga - Bikini Zone is a life saver.
guest
if you want it for comfort/cleanliness, just trim. no probs with itchiness or ingrown hairs or razor burns =)
i personally think having no hair at all looks too much like a little girl’s you-know-what… so some hair keeps it more womanly.
personal choice, really.
guest
I tried to shave and trim it there was a heart shape, but that didn’t work out too well. I ended up shaving it all coz I messed up.
I always thought about waxing since it would be much cleaner and less maintenance, but I’d be embarrassed showing my bajingo to the salon pros and going through the pains. So I just grumble and shave every couple of days (if you do shave and don’t maintain, it can really get irritating after the fourth or fifth day). Shaving or not shaving is a personal preference, but it takes some getting used to, so be careful if you do!
tulip / 20 posts
I typically shave and have waxed before, I think both are forms safe and hygenic forms of taking care of that area. If you shave be careful to shave downwards, and just take your time. Waxing is more expensive but yields great results and is not as painful as it may seem. Good luck!
sunflower / 359 posts
I remember reading a diagram from Venus razors and it said to shave diagonally. I like the cleanliness of shaving, it’s all a personal choice.
@PenaltyLife@xanga - Just how guys have to shave their facial hair. Less and less girls find it appealing. And shaving doesn’t hurt anyone unless they’re reckless and do something they’re not suppose to.

If you decide to shave here are some tips:
1. Trim it as short as possible
2. Lather very well
3. Shave with the direction of hair growth
4. Lather again
5. Shave “sideways”
6. Lather once more
7. Shave against direction of hair growth
8. Moisturize with aloe vera/shaving lotion
guest
I shave it in every direction… and I used to get horrible razor burn it would itch soo bad.. it looked like I had crabs
but I found a miracle!
Now the first time after I take a shower after I shaved I rub the area where I shaved with apricot scrub ( or the walgreens versions) It pretty much exfoliates it.. I don’t itch at all anymore
guest
I shave it off, mainly for my boyfriend. When I was single, I’d just trim it. It’s totally up to you. Personally, I like it better bald, but I’m lazy, so if I know nothing’s gonna happen for a while I just trim.
guest
shaving is something to get used to. i go against the grain. just make sure you have a good razor. after the first few times, it’ll bother you and you’ll get bumps and be red, but after a while you get used to it. i shave for my own comfort. the fact that *he* likes it is a plus haha
sunflower / 294 posts
i can’t imagine a cut down under. ouch, but uhh.. go with trimming.
guest
Use Condiceioner as shaving cream and a lot of it. (Trust me on this one.) Shave down, to the sides, and then up(slowly). After a little bit of practice you can get a really smooth shave. When I do I can’t really feel and stubble at all, though I hate it when it grows back.
guest
get it waxed professionally.. slightly painful from the start but its all worth it and much cleaner than ur own painful shaving.
dahlia / 2012 posts
I shave everything but a “landing strip”. I’ve done it for many years, so I’m completely used to it.
One tip: use a razor without a pivoting head. You’ll get a closer shave.
guest
Shaving down there is gross, wrong and should never be done. You may, and probably will, cut yourself, will get ingrowing hairs which could develop into various skin eating diseases, and is just WRONG. If you want to get rid of it, have a hollywood or a brazilian, by a professional beautician. But do not feel you should, have hair there is natural, and anyone that can’t accept that, or accept you because of that, is dumb and shouldn’t be in your life.
guest
shave is fine too but if you want to wax, try going to a salon for it or something
sunflower / 353 posts
I’d go with waxing the bikini line and trimming the other areas. Though if you don’t wax properly it can really hurt and cause bleeding (not serious, maybe just a few red spots).
guest
You’re like, what? 13? 14? You really shouldn’t be worried about it. And if you don’t want to come off as a child, I would suggest not referring to your vagina with saying “in there (if you know what I mean)”.
guest
Once you do it, it’ll grow back thicker.
just saying
guest
once you get used to shaving, it’s not bad. i’ve never had it itch though…
guest
i always shave. it is just the easiest thing and you don’t have to wait for it to grow back.
buy a product like Bikini zone to reduce irritation. I also like to put baby powder on.
Waxingis great if you can do it yourself, otherwise it gets expensive.
I have used nair for ages, it will not do you any harm!
Don’t be such a pussy, just pick something.
guest
It’s a personal choice, and frankly I prefer to not look like a six year-old girl down there. I trim for my own reasons, though.
Also, Nair actually says on the bottle (I think) NOT to use it on the groin. The skin there is much more sensitive than the hair on legs and arms, and when my guy friend used that stuff down there, he actually bled.
guest
I give it a trim and then I shave. I used to put this lotion that loosens all the hairs, but it makes my skin itch. Never tried waxing… if waxing my legs and arm pits hurt, what about down there? no, thank you.
Go Gilette!
guest
ideally, a professional wax is the best. I tried doing it myself, and as too big of a wuss.
A good shaving lotion will prevent bumps. If you have senstive skin, get one that is for sensitive skin. Get razors designated for sensitive skin as well. I get itching only when the hairs first start grow back, but I take an extra antihistamine or use Benadryl anti-itch cream on the area. Keeping it well lotioned afterwards also prevents the itching.
I don’t think it’s gross not to shave. It is a personal choice.
guest
Go slow and use lots of shaving lotion/cream. I’m not sure what the proper direction to shave the hair is, but I sort of just do what I need to do.
Remember though, you don’t have to! You can just trim if you prefer. It’s all about your preference.
guest
WAX! But make sure you get it done professionally
guest
I trim and just keep it “maintained”. There was a period of time when I got rid of all of it and it was just…wierd feeling to me, and unnatural. For the upcoming swimming season I would just keep your bikini line clean and trimmed up, I don’t think you really need to do away with all of it.But that is just my opinion…
guest
oh dude you’re actually not suppose to use nair on your genitals… read the bottle. you should at least trim, wax or at the very very least maintain it. i trim because i’m a swimmer and i don’t want to look like chewbacca in my jammers or speedo.
guest
Waxing is a lot easier.
guest
I shave, but I don’t go totally bare. Like a few others have said, I’ve done it once and didn’t like the “little girl” feeling.
Don’t shave against the hair growth. I shave down first and then sideways. Shaving against the growth hurts me, personally. I use lots of shaving cream and make sure to reapply if I need to. I also use the Noxzema bikini razors for small areas, but they don’t work for everyone.
I don’t have a big problem with razor burn or itching when I do this, but there are lots of people who do. I know that, as weird as it might sound, applying deodorant after shaving works wonders for some people.
Don’t shave again too soon! That’ll hurt.
guest
PS – I agree that you do sound a little young to start with this stuff. Don’t worry about it unless you absolutely have to. It’s not gross to have hair down there. I would say don’t worry about it at all until you’re 16+ yrs old.
hydrangea / 64 posts
I had laser hair removal down there because I hated having to keep up with it all the time.
Not sure that I’d recommend it though. It’s pretty pricy and took me 2 years of treatments, every six weeks.
But, before I had that, I just made sure to use nice shave cream or gel, and then afterward put on some gentle calming lotion. It worked well, it was just a hassle.
guest
trim with a razor in the shower against the hairs…don’t do it hard tho…it’ll cause irritation
guest
I shave it. Back when I started, I remember it used to be kind of itchy growing out, but now, almost 5 years later, I’m totally used to it. I don’t use shaving cream, or lotion, which is probably bad but it doesn’t really need it anymore.
guest
Oddly enough, after you shave, use a facial cleanser “down there”. It will reduce the shave bumps. I have super sensitive skin, and it helps. If you don’t want to shave it all, it might be a good idea to at least trim it.
guest
Get a wax, no itching and no razor cuts. Besides a razor is not delicate for that area.

No, you’re not gross. Do what you want.
Just because others do it, doesn’t mean you have to. I prefer to keep it shaved because it’s more comfortable for me since I’ve been doing it so long. Shaving takes practice and precision. If you don’t want to knick yourself, you can have a professional wax done but as you can imagine, it’s no more pleasant than knicking yourself shaving but it does last longer.
Hair removal lotions are a big no-no in my books. Think about it, if you leave it on just 15 seconds too long, you could suffer a chemical burn. Having that on your legs is bad enough, but that area is so sensitive that I wouldn’t advise anyone to risk it.

@SliverLines@xanga - not really. I like to let people know that I did stop by and read even if I had nothing really valuable to contribute. I have too many people thinking that I dont read their site because of not leaving comments, so even if it is just to say hello, I figure at least they will know I was there
guest
@lovechartreuse@xanga - it’s harmful to self-image. you can only be beautiful as a hairless unnatural person.
guest
@awokenfatality@xanga - yes, but the point is that men have facial hair and women do not. both women and men have underarm, leg, and pubic hair. but only women are expected to be hairless.
plus, men are socially allowed to opt out of shaving their faces. women are mocked for opting out of shaving their underarm or leg hair.
i mean, it’s my personal opinion. if you shave because it makes you comfortable, then that’s great. but if you do it because you’re pressured to “fit in,” then there’s a problem.
guest
As a lot of the others said, it’s a personal choice. I just started trimming a few months ago. I shaved once, to see if I liked it better, but I hated the bald feeling! So now I’m back to trimming. I never thought to try Nair there, but that seems like a bad idea. =/
If you don’t want to shave it, don’t. Simple as that.
guest
@PenaltyLife@xanga - So you’re saying that girls can’t shave because society says its more attractive? Are you aware that beauty is relative? Are you also aware that girls can do things for their own reasons and not because of societal pressure?
” yes, but the point is that men have facial
hair and women do not. both women and men have underarm, leg, and pubic
hair. but only women are expected to be hairless.”
You’re incorrect, it varies from person to person. Women can have facial hair too; its about hormone balances actually. And no, only female porn stars are expected to be hairless. If you’re going to be ignorant enough to generalize then I assume you think that all men should have facial hair and are expected to shave it; not all men have hair on their bodies like that, ie Asians?
“plus, men are socially allowed to opt out of
shaving their faces. women are mocked for opting out of shaving their
underarm or leg hair.”
I don’t know what society you live in but its generally stigmatized for men to not shave their faces. Every time I see a man with an unshaved face I see him as dirty or apathetic; I especially hate seeing professors and other professionals do this.
This has nothing to do with double standards; its about comfort. Take the time to think before spilling out the feminist bull shit, at the wrong time no less. >_>

@polyphonicthought@xanga - I’ve never thought about using a brow razor. Good idea!
I shave, I am scared of waxing lol.
It helps to first trim it down as much as possible. After that soak in a luke warm bath (it makes the hair and skin softer and its just easier) then I use conditioner for the top part (instead of shaving cream) and a Bikini Zone product for the bottom-cant remember the name. After that I find it helps with the itching to put a little baby powder on. Might sound odd but it sure helps me. Only shave once a week. Sometimes I will even go 2 weeks. If you start to itch a few days after you shave, putting deotorant down there helps. Dont ask why, lol I read that in a Cosmo or somthing & I think it helps.
Good Luck!

@Blue_ButterflyBaby@xanga - ah okay. That makes sense. Thanks.

@lovechartreuse@xanga - I completely disagree but that is alright.
I hate shaving, personally, and am so bitter that as a female I’m expected to shave.
But if you, or anybody else, -wants- to, then that’s alright. Go for it.

usually for me it depends. i shave down there during bathing suit season and, when i was dating my ex-boyfriend, i would shave when i went to visit him. otherwise i just let it run wild and free. hahaha.
its a personal choice, do whatever makes you feel most comfortable.
guest
haha funny i was just wondering about this. personally, i just trim… i’ve tried shaving parts (like the sides) but 1. i get razorburn 2. it itches sometimes 3. its superrr prickly and ugly when it grows back. i wouldn’t worry about it… as other girls said, if a guy likes you, he wont mind. i would recommend trimming at the least though, and during beach season i plan on shaving a tiny bit to make sure its not visible because that IS gross… so yeah. most people say it’s ‘gross’… but is it really? we’re all supposed to have it…
guest
i have the same problem, especially now since bikini season is coming up!
i shaved once, but it was only on the sides because my pubes were just blasting out of my bathing suite lololol
i didnt get any razor bumps afterwards…only a little itchiness when the hair grew back, but not that much.
im a little hesitant to shave down there this season, so thanks for the tips everyone!
guest
WAX! best thing (hair removal wise, and somewhat self -esteem wise) I ever did.
Now I wax the underarms and legs also! why not
guest
oh, and..
i tried those hair removal creams, and waxing myself, but i only ended up with more hair from the creams (they’re such a waste- never do your bikini line with them as the hair grows back worse!) and the waxing I did to myself just caused bumps and bruising.
Going to a professional waxer was the best thing, while it hurt the first couple of times, now the hair is finer, and takes a lot longer to grow back, and it’s fairly painless when I get it done now. The ingrown hairs for me are the only problem I have. I’d rather them tho than the hair!
hope that helps!
guest
You do release that the hair is down there for a reason, right? And generally it can protect you. You can get lots more infections and dirt in there if you remove the hair. I’d seek a doctor’s advise before removing it all. Bikini lines seem to be ok, but really, getting rid of it all can cause you more problems than you realize.
guest
oh, and really, as long as you adequately clean your hair down there you should be good. Now if you don’t clean it, that is gross, but the same goes for the rest of your body! It’s just that the fluids can smell worse than anything else. But, your hair can also help stop if your body releases fluids. I definitely caution against removing it all.
magnolia / 1369 posts
personally i hate the whole “bush” situation. i can’t stand if i don’t shave for like 2 days i’m dying to get it bare. shave the way that you would your legs you probably went the opposite direction that your hair grows the first time you did & that’s why you hurt yourself. but the first time is kinda akward after that it’s all good …
guest
im still a teen, but i shave down there just for bikini season. ive had some bad experiences with my bathing suite and my pubes, so i shave occassionally. but not full-out. only the sides and even when i did that, it wasnt that bad. i didnt get ingrown hairs, or razor bumps or anything. it itched for like a few minutes, but nothing too severe.
i didnt use lotion or any fancy-pants razor, just simply a regular razor, soap, and a few extra minutes in the shower

@PenaltyLife@xanga - Time to grow up and get over it. If men are pressured to do things and they don’t bitch about it neither should we.

Use shaving cream but don’t get it into your area, while in the shower. I usually don’t get itchy after. And if you aren’t planning on going nude in public or for a movie, and your boyfriend [if you have one] doesn’t care, just trim. It’s a lot easier and less annoying. It’s not gross to just trim.
It’s not like everyone sees your downstairs. Hahah.

Sideways is where it’s at. Works every time.I only shave the very underneath however. It not only makes me feel cleaner and more comfortable, it’s for my BFs sake as well. However, please don’t shave EVERYTHING off. I know girls who do that, and I don’t get it. You’ll get razor burn for sure, and it’s time consuming. Plus, having some hair down there is what makes you a woman!

i get a wax every 4 weeks and then shave every other day if it grows, but i would start with a wax first, then you can control the hair growth a little bit better. but your first wax will hurt.
guest
it doesn’t matter if you shave the direction the hair is growing or against it, but shaving against the direction seems to increase the likelyhood of ingrown hairs
i use hair conditioner to shave down there.. seems to keep away razor burn.. plus use a plain (unscented) moisturizing lotion afterward

I shave my bikini line. Noxzema sells these little razors with a built in comb, they come in a three pack and are perfect. They don’t irritate the skin because they’re a single blade. I also use a special bikini shave gel, it’s more of a soap compound than a shaving creme. I have no problems what so ever. You just have to be patient.

I trim and shave (with the hair direction) around the edges.
I’ve shaved it all a couple times and it does itch a lot when it’s growing back. I’d be interesting in trying waxing a couple times since the leg hair on my lower legs has grown back a little thinner and softer after waxing. But… there? Owie! Also, if I waxed, it would be a professional job. It took me a while to get the technique for my legs… that area would just be too complicated.
Besides, a lot of guys like some pubic hair.

Well, I don’t have any problems with it. I just shave it with a razor and water too. I keep it shaved too because it feels like I’m pulling at the hair, if it comes back again, so you should get used to it after a while.

@PenaltyLife@xanga - ”shaving is an inherently sexist act. women are only beautiful if they are unnaturally hairless.”?
It’ll never cease to amuse me how an idea of independence within a group inevitably causes some within the group to dictate how others should be.. independent?
As an example of a person, sorry: a guy, who thinks a hairless body is more appealing… I came here thinking that it might be more of a unisex discussion. (I just clicked the link in the slideshow of the signout page, without looking at the author.)
As:
Personally the idea of scissors, or a razor, near my “second brain” was quite disturbing in the beginning, but none the less started both a bit of trimming and shaving to what was more the comfort level of my girlfriend at the time. Hell, a trip out brazilian_for_two was even discussed.
Being as appealing or comforting as possible to those you wish to be appealing to: is not bad, nor sexist. Nobody can dictate how anyone else will be comfortable with their appearance: for themselves. But if somebody asks for advice on something fairly trivial, that can still effect comfort (for them or in a relationship): what’s the harm in them trying a few options, with some advice, then making a decision for themselves how much effort they’re willing to put in.
…Without ending with comments about harm being done, to which I’m questioning whether it was concern for their physical state, or your ideals.

Nah, that doesn’t make you gross. Do it if you want. There is a gel you can get to use when you shave down there. Apply the gel first and then shave and then use aloe vera. I’ve gone without shaving, I’ve shaved, and used Veet/Nair.

If you’re too afraid, for now I would say trim it. But a lot of the girls who have already commented this gave great advice about shaving so just wait til you get the courage!

I basically only take some off when I know i’m going to be wearing a swimsuit. I trim generally, you can get trimmers to do that or scissors will do, and then I use a razor on the sides just so I can not have tons of bush going on.
what you need to know is, use lotion BEFORE you shave and then warm water and then soothing stuff after. Shave sideways, in my opinion.
If you’re 14- don’t do anything beyond bikini! If you’re worried about ‘looking weird’–nothing’s gonna look weirder than all kinds of baldness with a lot of cuts going on. Promise.

I personally just naturally shave in the shower. I use the venus breeze and just shave off the bikini and the hair on the pubic bone (i guess thats how u describe it.) as for “down there down there” i try not to deal with it unless i know someones gonna see it and then i attempt to shave. im nervous about a razor that close to my vajayy i think it depends on how much u really care. i personally dont care much. but if i cared, i would try to wax.

Now for a guy’s opinion!!! Most guy’s I know prefer bald totally pink skin and the really happy guy’s get to help shave and then the crazy starts after. Myself I think a real good trim or clean shaven are best and nicer for oral. I do like to help shave and it usually results in some great sex after. I have always used shave cream as I do on my own beard and a new razor, Try several different type to find the one for you and always use lotion after have fun and good luck.

shave downward, w/the hair, and if it itches, use deordorant.. weird i know? but it work! promise

I have very strong feelings about going hairless: Simply put, I am a woman. I am beautiful. I do not want to look like a pre-pubescent girl. I trim I clean. I shave, I look great. But to take it all off can only encourage a fantasy about “little girls” that I have no interest enhancing.

That’s definitely a personal choice. You aren’t “gross” for choosing not to, and you wouldn’t be petty for deciding to.
I’ve tried shaving once. It sucks. Sure, it’s quicker and less painful than waxing, but it grows back in a lot quicker and you get the hair stubble, not to mention it itches when the hair grows back in.. Just too annoying for me. I prefer to wax. It does take longer, and it hurts, but you get a cleaner area when you wax and you won’t need to do it again for a few weeks instead of a few days. I started off going to salons for a brazilian. Now I just do it myself. Cheaper, and with practice, you’ll do it in shorter an shorter amounts of time.
Either way, good luck and don’t fret about it.
Note: Trimming the hair a little first does help the waxing go smoother.

Personally I think having a completely hairless pussy is slightly creepy. Exactly how is looking like a five year old sexy?
trimming is all that’s really necessary in my opinion.

I’m just gonna go out on a limb and say that if you can’t refer to your vagina in real terms, then maybe you’re too young to be worrying about whether or not to shave. No offense intended. It’s just that if you’re not comfortable enough to talk openly this topic, then I can’t possibly see how you’d be comfortable with shaving your pubic area.
That said, if you’re going to shave, I would recommend lathering with hair conditioner. I use it both on my bikini line and my legs, and it works wonders. Not only does it soften the hairs, but it makes for a smoother, closer shave and smoother skin, too.
And, as others have said, Nair is a big no-no.
It is interesting to see how society’s standards in regards to this particular phenomenon have changed since, say, the 1970′s.

i shave with aloe vera (sp?) on an angle with grain sideways and then finally against i hardly ever cut myself or get razor burn took a while to get though

Wax…
I wax about every 6 weeks, its smooth and clean feeling for about 3-4 weeks and NO itching.
The first time you wax might hurt a bit (at the top, middle) the rest is fine, but you could just leave a landing strip if your worried about pain.
But the more you wax the less is grows back and it grows back finer, therefore it hurts less each time.
Shaving grows back itchy and spiky and you have to do it often and yes you can get cuts which hurt.
And dont be embarresed about getting it waxed, thats a waxers job they make you feel comfortable and they see it everyday
the best thing to do is always go to the same waxer so you feel comfortable.
Oh and dont do it just before or just after your period because it will hurt more.
It also hurts less in the mornings.
Hope I helped?
