I just read about the French Elle doing a cover shoot for these celebrities with no make up and no airbrushing. Awesome concept!
Today, there are too many people, young and old that have problems with over-beautifying themselves.
It doesn’t help that these magazine agencies decide to photo-shop the already beautiful models and actresses out there!
People don’t realize that no matter how beautiful you are, these magazines will photo-shop and touch up the photos. No doubt. Halle Berry? Yep. Miss America? Definitely. Michelle Obama? Of course.
It is virtually impossible to look like these glossed over women on the covers. Even these ladies up here in the above photos still probably used special lighting.
But you know, I applaud the French magazine for doing this. This concept is definitely something that needs to be expanded on. Women today need to have a reality check, especially from a big magazine agency like ELLE.
Please, everyone, let’s not have these totally over-blown hopes that we become like the ladies on these magazine covers….the fake version of the ladies, I should say.
What do you think of this campaign?

I think this is amazing. We’re all beautiful with or WITHOUT makeup on.
guest
That’s awesome. It makes you realize that they’re real people, just like that. I mean, you KNOW that they are, but what with fame and it’s golden aura–plus all the aibrushing–you forget that.
I think it’s a cool concept too.

actually, I think some magazine does this already.
Kate Hudson was on the cover the last time around.
and that’s awesome.

Hm, it’d be nice if some of our celebrities did that, but too many of them look absolutely disgusting without makeup. Not all, but the majority of them. Those women above still look normal/decent.

A good start. I feel like the baggy clothing hides their real un-photoshopped bodies.
guest
Those celebrities are brave to let themselves be photographed without makeup.
guest
I like!
I’d be too self-conscious to be on a magazine cover without makeup though, haha.
guest
Cool concept!
I’m just scared of what I’ll see on the cover…LOL!
guest
Its so much better to see natural beauty as opposed to the glossy airbrushed oddly plastic looking covers where all the women seem to resemble each other and blur into one shiny edit.
guest
@miss_prettyinpink@xanga - I agree. There are countless celebrities that tried this same campaign and lost their reputation over it. A sad and egotistical fact, but true non the less.
guest
they should do this more often =)
guest
This is a wonderful idea. These women are still gorgeous without any makeup.
guest
Interesting idea.
guest
I think it’s a good idea, especially for those who are obsessed with attaining an ideal which doesn’t even exist.
guest
All three of them are stunners even without makeup.
guest
This is nice. They look HUMAN. ^^
guest
no makeup but definitely airburshing!
guest
they are still photographed in the best possible lighting etc. If they want to impress me, they’d post candid shots. No lighting. No perfect hair.
guest
LOVE it! These women actually look pretty! Unlike the fake women. And something else I notice, they’re all DECENT!! Amazing.
guest
awesome
guest
I think it’s a really awesome idea. They still look crazy hot.

this is so cool!

I like this! I like it very much. No make-up and air brushed pictures in magazines would be wonderful. We’d all see what people really look like and stop thinking we have to look like those photoshopped pictures in the magazines. That would do wonders for peoples’ self-esteem.

This is simply lovelyyyy

Tyra Banks did this like a decade ago. She published a book about makeup and other stuff, and had pictures without makeup.
guest
Im happy this was done.

Are those pictures without make up?
Why do they still need to put make up on, i think they look fine like this.
guest
i like that
who are they btw? lol
guest
nice, even if they’re considered “better” looking with makeup on i feel like you can actually take the time to notice how their features compliment each other.

I love it.
And from a such a big French magazine agency, too. If other magazine agencies follow in their footsteps, hopefully the standard set for beauty, youth and shape in women of every age will become more realistic and achievable.

we marvel at beauty which is nothing but fake post-surgery faces or airbrushed make-up perfect looks. The mass media is tainting the society with shallow thoughts and ideals which are nothing but a fake facade way of life. Only true beautiful people can look and shine at their most natural.
guest
excellent concept. they dont look bad either.

I think they are also nice without make up. It’s a good thing to show in magazines that famous girl are not prettier than others without profesionnal make up and photoshop !
guest
i’m with this all the way
i think a majority of females need to stop trying to think they look good by masking what they really are..we need to learn to appreciate ourselves..clean and fresh!
guest
kudos to elle
guest
i love the concept of it!

Much like Dove’s “Natural Beauty” campaign http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2IR_fMglRA
Though, it does appear quite possible that these celebrities do have a bit of something on. Would not be able to tell for certain or not unless you had HQ versions of final chosen photos. Then you would see the pores, the dark circles, the hair on the face and arms that everyone has, but media makes you believe nobody has a stitch of.

i think the pictures are gorgeous.

I’ve seen something like this before, but nevertheless I’m all for this campaign!
guest
What a GREAT idea. Monica Bellucci is still absolutely beautiful.
guest
This is a pretty cool idea- I hope they do more. We’ve gotten so into worshiping an idea of beauty that doesn’t exist that we no longer treasure what people really look like and no longer take pride in who we are.
guest
while i always appreciate how good some women can look with make-up, i always go for the ones i know will look great without it. in long relationships sometimes girls start reaching for the make-up less and when those end it’s funny/sad to see them caking it back on again. sure you want to look your best (hell i style my damn hair) but it’s as you say, you’d like for them to feel as if a guy will take them for who they are. nothing wrong with getting dolled up here and there to show your boyfriend/husband you care and vice versa but you shouldn’t feel you always have to put on your face.
guest
I’m pretty sure ALL of those pictures you posted have makeup. Look around the eyes. Especially the first one, she’s got tons of black eyeliner on. I really don’t understand this. They just used a weaker lighting and made the photos come out a little washed-out.
orchid / 103 posts
cool. I’ve always wanted to see the natural them.
guest
Awesome.
guest
Ha, if you think the women on those cover aren’t wearing ANY make up and aren’t air-brushed, you’re naive.
guest
I wouldn’t say fake…
guest
natural beauty is real beauty;
i love everything about this campaign.
guest
Puh-lease. They are still Photoshopped. The above is not what “no makeup” looks like…it’s what one end of the mainstream’s makeup-o-meter looks like. You’ve got Hag and you’ve got “no” makeup, which is neutral makeup and freckle crayons artfully applied to look like no makeup..

Amazing. Yes, a great concept.
All the women on the covers all look beautiful without makeup.
Lucky.

loveeeeeeeeeeeee the idea that someone is doing something
loved the dove commercials also

I went to the doctors office once, and they actually had an advertisement for Botox saying “This Valentines Day, Give Your Lover The Gift of Botox”.
Is that not disgusting?
I think we need to see more natural photoshoots. They would probably help with peoples self-esteem. It’s amazing how many people don’t know their own worth. I actually have a friend who believe that EVERYONE has lo self-esteem. I beg to differ, I don’t think I am the most gorgeous person in the world, but i’m not modest. I AM happy with myself, and I wish everyone was.

We need more of natural celebs! That way the media won’t affect the public eye as much and teens will stop trying so hard to look “glamorous.” Celebs use tons of make-up along with hours of prep and special lighting, photoshop, etc. I was hoping magazines would start interviewing celebs for their flaws. All of us have them and it would be interesting to know something the fans/readers/viewers don’t know! I remember reading an article on Miley Cyrus, her mother stated that Miley has very hairy legs and has to shave constantly. It reminded me that celebs are still human and just like all of us. Maybe even down-to-earth.
guest
its awesome,
but newsweek and time ahve been doing it for years….
guest
i think they look beautiful.

I don’t really care about make-up or whatever, but the photoshop-ing people isn’t only for the person in the photo. It’s a known fact that people look better without zits, so the photographer wants his/her photo to look good, therefore they get rid of blemishes. Nothing big.
I would know, I’m going to be a photographer. It just makes it more aesthetically pleasing to the veiwer to have clear skin and a well-defined face.
So, overall, no ragging on photoshop, because even though indirectly it helps the person in the photo, it isn’t only for them that this stuff is done.
Also, not everyone is beautiful without make-up, no matter what anyone says. In fact, most people look like shit without it.
I just need my eyeliner. Without it I woulld never leave my house, because I do need it.
Yup, I’m done now.

Beauty in society is important. No matter what anyone says, try to look hot.
guest
natural is the best way to ago, I’d have to agree. plus, too much makeup is actually detrimental to your skin.
guest
i prefer makeup on my ladies.
guest
we do need more of these.
guest
does eye liner / eye shadow not count as make up anymore?
guest
Great, until we find out that those photos are indeed photoshopped like it happened with the Dove campaign.
guest
Why people actually believe this, is beyond me. I thought I was gonna see those ugly paparazzi bad pictures of celebrities in this post.

I’ve seen magazines do this before… it isn’t all that rare.
I think it is a good idea, and the women look beautiful.
<3
guest
it’s good that they do that….i felt that women do too much make up and start it too early……
guest
A really, really good idea – and it’s something we all need to have faith in, in my opinion. It could branch off into something new and whole and our perceptions could change completely.
But I have a feeling that someone will find something wrong with this idea – it reminds me of the Dove campaign introduced a while back with normal-looking women with normal-looking bodies.
Best of luck to Elle, though – they’ve got a good concept going.
