I love watching romance movies, too. And this is when I am (again) hit with the fact that these guys and girls in there are just way too perfect. There can’t possibly be one of those, right?
Nevertheless, I have a thing for drawing up the perfect man. So, this is what I see in movies, and hope that the Ideal Boyfriend has.
1. We’re eating at a restaurant and I get up (either to go to the bathroom or somewhere else). Ideal Boyfriend also stands up.
2. We’re walking on the sidewalk and I fall flat on my face. Ideal Boyfriend also falls on the ground and laughs with me. (HA)
3. We’re talking on the phone and I fall asleep. Ideal Boyfriend keeps the phone by his side and calls me first thing in the morning.
4. Ideal Boyfriend knows how to cook. Deliciously.
5. Ideal Boyfriend appreciates good feedback. Like: that suit looks ridiculous, that purple shirt doesn’t look good on you, and oh, that ring in your nose is kinda weird.
And I always guffaw at the girls in the movie….So, if I were a boy (haha….ya know, Beyonce?), this would be my Ideal Girlfriend.
1. The boys and I are having a fun night out (or in) and girlfriend calls. I tell her I have the boys over and we’re playing….poker? or watching a game. Preferably, if I were watching a game, Ideal Girlfriend would be over and watching with. But, if that isn’t the case, Ideal Girlfriend says “Okay, have fun! I’ll call you tomorrow.”
2. I go through a lot to win a contest at work for coupons to some nice restaurant so Ideal Girlfriend and I can go together. The coupons give dinner free and Ideal Girlfriend doesn’t mind that I didn’t have the money to go there in the first place, and therefore, participated and smashed all contestants in the contest to get those coupons.
3. Ideal Girlfriend doesn’t mind that I want to go on a road trip with the boys. Or camping.
4. Girls are looking in my direction and smiling up a storm. Ideal Girlfriend says “They know what’s good when they see it.”
5. I walk by a girl who’s beautiful (or rather, sexy, I guess) and I try really hard to keep my eyes on the Ideal Girlfriend. No worries, Ideal Girlfriend smiles and says, “That deserves a treat.”
What is your ideal significant other like? Is dating in the movies anything like dating in real life?

I’ve totally done #1 on the ideal girlfriend list. I hate clingy people so I try really hard not to be clingy.
Ideal Boyfriend also runs and has a dog, preferably a border collie.

@babyangel_j13@xanga - HAHA of course. <3

An ideal significant other…someone who understands my interests, but doesn’t have to participate in all of them. He’ll know when to give me space (for time with my girls, time on my own, time with my family), but is also sweet enough to spend time with me, even if it’s out of his way (only sometimes. I can’t be wrecking his life, now, can I?). And, of course, I’d do the same for him. Ideally, he’d be my best friend, with that romantic spark you almost always see in good chick flicks =].
I guess dating in real life could be like dating in the movies, but mostly in the beginning when the relationship is new. Sometimes the passion dies down, but the chemistry is still right.
Oh, love. (Insert dreamy sigh here).

i don’t like the idea of an ideal boyfriend being someone who is just like you, has the same exact tastes and opinions, who will want to cuddle and kiss and write you lovesongs all day.
that person is non-existent. and if you waste your whole life looking for that ‘perfect’ person.. well, good luck. let me know when you find them!
I myself want someone who won’t be afraid to to argue with me, to oppose my opinions, stick to their convictions instead of bowing down and submitting. I want a real person, not a robot!

i would prob make the worst gf ever
only thing i’ll do is watch hockey with them lol
anything else im out

Awww, these are so cute!
Great list! Except…Maybe not the bathroom part… I don’t know, not my style. lol.

My ideal significant other is my fiance. He’s just everything I wanted in a man. And to answer your question, no dating in real life is nothing like dating in the movies.

@doLc3@xanga - The word ideal still gives me hope…haha
@sweetsweetsugarjunkie@xanga - oh, yes, DEFINITELY. lol And I’d definitely try to do that on my end too. =)
@TheLoveMuse@xanga - Runs? That’d mean he was fit. Yay for that one! lol
@babyangel_j13@xanga - HAHA
@fuzzi_mushroom@xanga - Unfortunately…sigh
@xxthatsmexx@xanga - =)
@JoeytheGenie@xanga - lol I don’t favour hockey much…lol
@TreacleTimebomb@xanga - A little of that and a little of this, right? lol
@EverlastingSimplicity@xanga - hehe It seems too much?
@chick_fit@xanga - Strange how these sites will insert a question FOR you…my actual post didn’t have that question as I know it’s basically impossible to find such boyfriend as indicated above…lol hence, ideal. But we can all dream sometimes. =)

In my case my boyfriend is the one who always fall asleep while we are on the phone, then I’m the one who put my phone by my pillow, and call him as soon as I wake up the next day. LOL

haha thats cute

My ideal man recycles! I’m all about conserving the planet.
hydrangea / 75 posts
@ninoathrun@xanga - Hehe I think that’s the case with most of us ladies….=)
@lukca@xanga - Thanks!
@chPanda@xanga - Ah, yes…I’m a recycler as well!

My ideal man is Rick O’Connell from the Mummy. He protects the woman he loves, all while being a bad ass and killing the mummy, and looking totally hot.
*sigh* Now that THAT fantasy is out of my system…I dunno. I want a guy that gets me. A guy that can have an inside joke with me. A guy who would come to me in the middle of the night, or across an ocean—no matter what the time zone or the distance or obstalces or whatever–he’d be there for me. And for all the right reasons.

It’s easy to become your ideal girlfriend , just being more understanding and caring.
But it’s hard to find a perfect bf according to the article.There are too many assholes out there so i only expect i will never meet ideal dead-end instead of boy-friend!
guest
I don’t think it’s impossible to be an ideal boyfriend. It just takes a lot of work and effort… and constant motivation =)
guest
Ideal bf lets me hang with my girlfriends… and doesn’t get annoyed when I go shopping! =)
guest
real life doesnt feel anything like the movies to me. I have often dreamed of those romantic moments like you see in the movies, but life is just not like that. that is why the romance movies sell so well. It is because they offer what real life never will. Romance.
guest
i wonder is this ‘ideal boyfriend’ really exist….
guest
I think I would be a bit pissed off if he fell with me on the ground instead of helping me up. I would look at him like, “What the fuck are you doing?” Ass. Haha. I’d rather him catch me BEFORE I fall.
I think an ideal boyfriend should just be understanding, a listener, respectful, communicative, loving, loyal, & sweet.
My boyfriend is pretty great. He doesn’t do 1-4 [haha], but I don’t really mind. The only time he gets up when I get up at a restaurant is if we’re in a booth & he has to move so I can go pee. It doesn’t bother me. He does appreciate good feedback, though. Our only issue is communication. If we smoothed that out, we’d probably be happy 24/7.
Dating, after being together for nearly four & a half years now, is definitely NOT like the movies. They only show you the happy, but if it is the bad they show you, it’s definitely not like real life, either. Romance movies make girls have really high expectations for relationships.

@StreetChaseNManhattan@xanga - Hahaha, ah yes, it is nice to be able to day-dream sometimes, isn’t it?
@nikita_newme@xanga - haha Unfortunately, that is too true.
@Spyder_V@xanga - hahaha CONSTANT motivation? And what, pray tell, would give constant motivation? I, myself, lose motivation after a few days…maybe hours? lol
@candidShotS@xanga - True that!
@Blue_ButterflyBaby@xanga - Agreed. to the 100th power.
@raby313@xanga - Probably rare and far between. Hence, “ideal”. lol Unfortunately.
@BLOOMnLUNAtic@xanga - Romance movies=bad for single ladies. LOL Actually, that question was inserted in by the site….I had NO ties to it whatsoever….I SWEAR…. lol
guest
@hyunj09@xanga - Love. Good communication and a healthy relationship should lead to love. Love, when real, is very motivating. =)

ahh if you watched “boys before flowers” the korean version of “hana kimi” and “meteor garden,” you would understand my ideal boyfriend: ji hoo. too much drama and romance movie watching raises girls’ expectation for their “ideal” boyfriend or significant other.
guest
My beloved is the ideal man. *sigh* He is EVERYTHING I ever wanted.
guest
Considering not one feature of the ideal girlfriend had to do with sex, you obviously don’t know anything about men.

I would like #4 in my Ideal Boyfriend, since I`m not much of a cook. Bake I do, and boil, but cook..? Not so much.
I will so strive for #5 as the Ideal Girlfriend. It would probably be funnier to see the look of shock/dumbfoundedness on his face than anything.
guest
I adore romance movies tooo!!!!
@babyangel_j13@xanga - twilight obsessions! haha agree with you. i’m like always obsessed after watching such romance movies!
guest
@babyangel_j13@xanga -
haha
edward and jacob
make it so hard to find a good boy
because i’m always
comparing them
to edward/jacob.
lol, if they don’t sparkle in the sunlight
they can’t have my heart!
haha jk [:

your g/f sounds better than your b/f. the guy just sounds cheesy… and seems like he cannot think for himself. plus the girl in the b.f part no. 5… sounds like a bitch.
guest
cute.. but i can only agree with #4 and 5 for “ideal boyfriend”.
standing up whenever i stand up at a restaurant would actually be pretty annoying to me, and i’d prolly never wanna eat out with him again lol
guest
that’s not my ideal bf, mine would have to
a) be sort of edgy and dangerous but not enough to be a dilinquint
b) be talented at something, drawing, music, writing, whatev
c) HAS to be itelligent but not in a boring way, up for debate and always curious, has to like reading, and the discovery channel
d) has to be funny, and i mean really funny in a witty sort of way
e) must be socially concious and liberal, support gays, and well kind of bohemian would be nice
f) long hair is a must, not so long that it;s girlish but, i guess shaggy is the word i hate short hair its a turnoff,
(i really couldnt care less if my guy is buff or not, skinny or a little overweight is perfectly fine, i just dont want a morbidly obese dude who eats nothing but macdonalds, i mean i’m not the thinnest myself but i exercise and try to eat right because i care about my body and there is just too much life out there to spend it wolfing down hamburgers on the couch he should share these values)
sorry if this is too long and your like “no one cares” i just felt like posting my opinion
guest
Lol
#1 for the Ideal Boyfriend would be quite awkward..
In regard to the leniency of the Ideal Girlfriend, I do pretty well with that. It’s not like I try to control his life, what he does, and I don’t make a fuss if he’s looking at other girls or something. xD
Just more contact would be nice for a long distance relationship i guess. D:
I would make my own list but I’m stumped… he already is patient with me and forgives my many shortcomings and that’s awesome
