We asked what is the best hair straightener? Here are your top 3 choices:
Chi is definitely the best. It doesn’t damage your hair, it’s good enough to use everyday without worrying about breakage or split ends, it works on thick, frizzy, wavy/curly hair, and it keeps your hair shiny and soft and not frizzy!
I love it.” (- x__EMuhLEE@xanga)
2. GHD
This iron can create gorgeous straight locks and waves thanks to the rounder barrels. It also has ceramic heaters and aluminum plates which are less damaging on your hair. It also has a safety feature that turns it off when left unused for 30 minutes.
They are amazing, heat up in like 6 seconds, and they straighten your hair so well first time round. They’re really expensive though – more expensive than the Chi. But it’s so worth it. (- vvaanneessuuhh@xanga)
It heats up really quickly, straightens my hair quickly and keeps it straight. (- teen_assassin@xanga)
This iron is advisable for stubborn curly or coarse hair. It has wider plates which makes it the ideal tool for thicker hair. This technology also benefits unruly hair because thicker sections can be ironed.
The newest one by bio ionic is really nice. It contains Natural Ion Complex (a blend of naturally-occurring minerals) that emits Natural Negative Ions in to the hair. Natural Negative Ion energy is powerful enough to break down clusters of water molecules into fine particles that penetrate the hair shaft, to rehydrate, recondition and restore moisture balance. It also heats up in 2 seconds! (- cYniCaL31@xanga)

Flat irons are a wonderful hair-styling tool that assist in creating a straight hair style. Some flat irons can also be used for curling your hair (see photos demonstrating the technique here). I will recommend two excellent flat irons that I believe perform the task with amazing quality.
First of all, there are certain qualities to consider before selecting a flat iron. Your hair type plays a role in your flat iron needs. You may have straight hair with a few kinks, smooth wavy hair, frizzy curls, etc.
If you hair is not too curly and you would not need to straighten your hair all of the time, you may want to try the affordable but highly effective Remington Wet 2 Straight flat iron.
However, if your hair is curlier in nature and you would straighten your hair more often, you should seriously contemplate investing in a more expensive flat iron such as the Sedu flat iron. Your hair type and how frequently you intend to straighten your hair should be reflected when you contemplate purchasing a flat iron.
Saving up for a flat iron is always worth the effort for the superior level of quality.
It is important to look for a flat iron with adjustable heat settings. The width of the flat iron plate should also be taken into consideration. A smaller plate will take a greater amount of time when straightening your hair. However, the smaller panels are best for those who wish to use their flat iron for both straightening and curling purposes. Also, try to purchase a flat iron with ceramic plates.
When using a flat iron or any heated hair-styling tool, you should always use a product to protect your hair from the heat. I personally recommend TRESemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray.
Also, if you have curlier hair and intend to straighten your hair very often, consider purchasing Nexxus Sleek Memory Straightening Spray. It is important to maintain healthy hair in order to achieve beautiful straight hair.
What flat irons would you recommend for hair straightening?

maxiglide, ftw. it’s the one i use and i adore it <3

Remington Wet to Straight are the best ones I’ve ever had. But the plates are fat so, as you said, you can’t curl your hair with them.
GHDs are good too, but not as good

My sister is a hairdresser and she recommended Toni&Guy, and I love it. It has adjustable heat settings up to 400F so it’s good if you usually have to go over your hair a few times to fully straighten.
guest
mine’s naturally straight. holler.
guest
My friends rave about Chi, but I personally don’t straighten my hair so I don’t know, haha.

I’ve used the Paul Mitchell straightener for as long as I’ve been straightening my hair! I love it. I think your hair type depends on what straightener is the best for you though.

I’ve heard Chi is really good

I love this post. I’ve been looking for a new straightener. I’m currently using the Remington Wet 2 Straight. Its okay, but I’ve tried some other straighteners that can do the job a lot faster. (I have curly hair)
guest
Conair is good too.

GHDs most definitely.
They are amazing, heat up in like 6 seconds, and
they straighten your hair so well first time round. They’re really
expensive though – more expensive than the Chi. But its so worth it.

I have the Remmington Wet 2 Straight, and I love it. My hair is really thick and coarse but not super curly. It makes it so smooth and natural-looking.

Mine is a CHI, and I absolutely love it.

@DahliaSkinny@xanga - That’s what I have too.
I have wavy to curly hair… And the Chi is the best I’ve found.
guest
@pinkcrayon78@xanga - I have a cordless chi and it was totally worth the money
ive never had any other straightener that’s so versatle, hot, and durable chis ftw

I have a Solia. A bit on the more expensive side, but on the cheaper side of the really expensive ones.
If that makes sense.
And it works amazing! Love it. Definitely worth looking into.

I use the VO5 Straight! cream, and I have the Bespoke T3 Wet-Dry Straightener, it’s great!

I have super curly hair, but I straighten it every day. I use a CHI.. and to me it’s been the best straightener I’ve ever had in my life. I’ve had it for almost a year, and it’s been the most effective straightener I’ve tried.
guest
I love Wet 2 Straight by Remington. I hardly use it when my hair is wet… but man, I love it.
And it works on my sister’s hair and she has the kinkiest, curliest, thickest hair. If it works on her hair, it’ll work on anyone’s.

My hair is naturally straight, so sorry, since I’m no help >.<

I’m all about the GHDs. I owe my life to them! oxo.

I love Corioliss flat irons. I will never go back to any other flat iron. My hair is naturally curly, has been bleached blonde, is naturally frizzy & dry – and STILL comes out silky smooth when I use Got2B’s products & my Corioliss SXE straightening iron…and best of all it doesn’t take long at all for me to straighten my hair! This is what works for me :0)
guest
Herstyler. It’s amazing. This want to be French guy stopped me in the mall to straighten my hair. (I was kind of offended that he picked me out of the crowd..I didn’t think my hair looked bad. Actually I had straightened it already, but it was humid outside.)
But yes, it straightens really well. Just don’t buy it at the mall for $100, buy it on amazon for $35 plus shipping.
I wouldn’t suggest the CHI, unless you don’t mind buying constant replacements, seeing as how they always break!!
-Other suggestions: use THE RUSK! It works just as well the CHI, but doesn’t break.
guest
chi is my life
guest
CHI or GHD flat irons, FTW!
&definitely NEVER a “wet 2 straight” flat iron. That shit ruins your hair, no doubt.
I learned a lot in cosmetology school
guest
@music_of_the_heart08@xanga - I’ve never known a CHI to break and I went to Cosmetology with a ton of girls who owned a CHI. I have a CHI and it still works and it’s broken. It’s been 2+ years since I purchased it.
guest
I have a bedhead flat iron that I got at Meijer. It’s lasted the longest out of any flat iron I’ve ever owned (and I’ve been through something like 5…) and my hair always feels really great.
guest
if i had to straighten my hair i’d use a chi, but my hair is board straight haha
guest
The CHI is amazing! But FHI is also really good too. If you have a Beauty Brands near you, I know they have both of them. You really want to stick with a ceramic flat iron though, it is much better for your hair than a metal one.
guest
i hate the straightener pictured above. its the worst. the one that works best for me is by revlon.
guest
i love my hot tools. they have all different sizes and u can find them at like ulta or trade secret!
guest
I use HAI I got it from folica.com, it works really well but I might want to get a Babyliss in the future.. since I’ve heard good reviewss.
guest
@NOTdaGRLnextDR@xanga - It depends, I guess. Everyone I know that uses a CHI also speaks of it no longer working after a while, but they always buy more, so it must be good enough to keep buying! =P
guest
Solia.
guest
i have some titanium one, bought it for 20 at marshall’s, its compact. it gets my hair up, so its good
guest
does anyones hair start steaming even tho there are no products in the hair when using GHDs?
or does it make sizzling sounds?
guest
@music_of_the_heart08@xanga - Well, if they continue to buy them, it must mean something, huh? Hope you have better luck with what you’re using now, though
guest
The CHI seems to be great for most of my friends… but I notice that they’re all white with thin, soft hair…
For those of us with thicker hair [or who need to work at higher temperatures]… Jilbere de Paris’ Nano Silver Tools Ceramic Ionic Flat Iron seems to be just perfect.
Especially since it seems to keep hair straight for 2-3 days easily or unil you wash it again.
guest
i spent a lot of money on hair straignteners, but most of them doesn’t work well,
Amika’s the best, it’s a bit expensive, but it REALLY works~ me and my friends all love it = )

I got a Solano Sapphire flat iron after InStyle magazine featured one year as the best hair straightener. After dropping it multiple times over a few years though, I broke it. I’m going to try a Chi because it costs less, and I heard great things about it, too– plus there’s a limited edition one in PINK!

Chi is definitely the best. It doesn’t damage your hair, it’s good enough to use everyday without worrying about breakage or split ends, it works on thick, frizzy, wavy/curly hair, and it keeps your hair shiny and soft and NOT frizzy!

Biosilk Tournaline Ceramic… I found it recommended on a website for being decently priced but really high quality. It goes to about 400 degrees temperature, and it’s one of the ergonamic designs so I can do flips and such with my hair. I got it for about 60 dollars from 100 on amazon.com. I love it… and Biosilk is made by Chi anyways.

Wow this is so weird!
I have the Remington Wet to Straight flat iron, and my roommate has the Sedu flat iron. My hair isn’t too curly, but curly enough that I need to straighten it. And my roommate’s is the same way. Her hair is actually a lot thinner and straighter then mine is.
Lately though, she’s been only using my straightener. She says that it works better for her and that it takes less time. Anyways, I love my straightener and I wouldn’t want anything else. :]
I just think it’s so weird that the 2 straighteners you have on here, are the exact ones me and my roommate have.

i had the CHI which was amazing. but then i found this one and it was woah. it does my whole curly head in 7 minutes.

my ex’s mum had a CHI one and it was AMAZING.
they seem to be wicked expensive so i have never been able to afford one. i have always owned a Conair.. my first one i got as a xmas gift and it lasted me about 5 years and it fell apart. my new one is the conair platinum and works wonders. my hair is wicked curly too.
guest
Amika hair straighteners are the best.
guest
id probbaly say chi.
guest
Sedu is great! I was going to get a Chi but read many reviews saying that it’s great until it breaks usually in about a year. My sedu works great and wasn’t too expensive, i bought it from http://www.folica.com. it’s very light, too so it’s good for travel and isn’t as bulky as some of the chi’s.

@vvaanneessuuhh@xanga -
I’d be VERY CAUTIOUS with Conair. Some of their irons do well, but be warned, some will tend to break. I’ve been through two – one with glass plates with some fabric around the edges, and the second was just a plain ceramic one that heated up quicker and had the “turbo” mode. Both were around what, 15 dollars? Yeah.
They both ended up breaking after a bit, and whenever I turned them on, the room smelled like smoke. Something went wrong internally, I don’t know.
However, I got the “shine effects”, 1.5 inch iron that’s coated in a fabric (different type than mentioned above), emits negative ions, uses tourmaline technology, and the fabric really helps cushion. So, to me, this is the best one yet – and the wider plates help since I usually go for a straighter style often as opposed to curling.
The best part? It was $20. Chi’s and other irons range from at least 60-70, to 140, and top out around 200.
However, regarding the hair protectors/heat defense sprays, I’m not sure. I’ve used them from time to time but, UNLESS THEY’VE PROPERLY DRIED UP BEFORE YOU START IRONING (you DON’T WANT the steaming sound!!), they WILL do more harm than good. I once sprayed the heat defense on the back of my hair (since that’s the part that damages easiest), and didn’t wait for it to dry up. INSTANTLY turned into straw underneath the iron and I had to chop it off. Which left my head looking WEIRD.
In addition, a quality shampoo/conditioner pair is required to maintain the health – I’d go with Aussie’s brands.

I love my GHD =D
It heats up really quickly, straightens my hair quickly and keeps it straight.
I honestly wouldn’t be able to survive without it. Which is pretty sad ^-^
guest
I own a Chi, I personally love it.
Many of those who complain about it have knock-offs..
You have to look out for those!
But the best hair straightener I’ve ever used was a Revlon, it looks exactly like a Chi. Honestly, it kept my hair straight all day, and I have really really thick and difficult hair to straighten.
AND it was cheap! Like, 30 dollars, compared to the 200 (with the tax) Chi.
It’s not on the market anymore, it was a couple years ago.

i wouldnt ANY wet to straight iron,
it was my first straigtener,
and it just ruined my ends,
hair isnt ment to be put into great heat when its wet.
split ends gallllore. still have some too.
since then ive been using CHI,
and its amazing, my last one lasted me two & a half years and worked amazingly the whole time. and they have products that sometimes come with your purchase,
there also cute, coming in different designs and colors.
CHI hands down.

CHI ftw. (:

i bought my straighter from sephora.com, its awesome! it doesnt hurt your hair it makes it sleek, shiney, and soft. T3 is the only brand to buy! i got the pink one for like 120 i think.
guest
I have curly hair, and I love my sedu! However, I would never reccomend the Remington Wet 2 Straight flat iron.It damages the hell out of your hair with the whole wet to straight thing…I don’t know why someone would want to use it.
guest
FHI hands down.
100% ceramic, different looks and can curl.
Totaally in love.

I got a Revlon ceramic 1″ flat iron from Kroger for $19.99. So far it works pretty well.

I despise the CHI
I had a pink one and it broke after not too long of having it. It was the worst investment ever. My sister has like 3 of them and they all broke also.
Now we both have IONS from Sally’s. They work amazing.
I am looking into buying that purple GHD that comes with a blow dryer. But it’s almost $400! So we’ll see about that.

My Chi is my baby

I’m currently using the CHI. Works well on my hair so far.
guest
um…everyone I see who uses Chi has horribly dry and gross looking hair.
I have a remington wet to straight. I wouldn’t follow the directions on the box for the heat settings. Turn that bitch all the way hot, do your hair, and it’s awesome. Oh and the whole straightening your hair while wet….not a good idea. Makes it dry.
guest
@Meowmeowkimmaee@xanga - I bought some, not a chi brand, some stuff in a purple bottle from walmart, and it smells good and makes your hair soft. I don’t use it all the time though.
guest
@Dancebabe885@xanga - it damages when you try to straighten your hair wet. Yea lol. But that’s gonna happen with any straightener. Straightening when it’s wet takes a hell of alot longer anyways. lol

hands down SEDU. ive tried hai, chi, etc. and nothing comes close. its very durable (ive dropped it many times), the plates get hot quickly and your hair stays smooth and straight all day. worth the extra money for sure
guest
Ahh! Everyone keeps saying the Remington Wet 2 Straight is the best cheap flat iron out there. I own it, and it’s terrible. Maybe I have a faulty flat iron, but I’m guessing that I don’t. It does nothing for my frizz. I’ve been wanting to buy a Chi, but I can’t seem to remember to buy it when I have money. Please, somebody tell me that the Chi works 100x better than the Remington. There is no way I’m going to buy a $120 flat iron if it only works a little bit better than my $25 flat iron.
guest
The Solia is better than the CHI. I’ve had my Solia for over six years, dropped it dozens of times and moved seven times with it. I’d like to see you drop a CHI and have it last more than a few seconds.

i had a chi once and i don’t think it lived up to it’s name at all. instead, use the forever herstyler straightener. it works so well. and, it gets up to around 400 degrees Fahrenheit. anyone that has ever used it of my friends loves it and agrees that it OWNS the chi.
guest
GHD’s all the way for me.
guest
I have a Chi. It was pretty badass when I first got it, but now the plates are all gnarly and doesn’t do that well of a job. I’m thinking I just need a relaxer though…GHD’s are kind of good. My boyfriend uses an Ionic or something. His is fucking amazing (it has adjustable temperature which my Chi doesn’t have) and makes my hair uber soft. @____@;
guest
Oh, forget the straightening irons. I have such thick, wavy, long hair. I just use a clothes iron! Yep, I iron my hair just like I do my clothes. My hair is taken good care of and not damaged at all though. =)
guest
i love my T3 straightener my mom got my a year and a half ago for my birthday…

Actually I have a GREAT straightner that just says “Ceramix” on the side – it cost me a few hundred bucks at an authentic beauty store…and it works EXTREMELY well.
I’ve had it for quite a few years now and never found one problem with it.
It doesn’t damage my hair either, or cause frizzies or split ends.
One day I might opt for the CHI though, just because the Ceramix one is a bit big and bulky.
Love all the cute colours the CHI comes in ^^
guest
I LOVE CHI! they straighten your hair without making it looking grassy and unhealthy looking, like the wet 2 straight flat iron.
guest
I go to a Paul Mitchell school and our new flat iron is -awesome-! both sides of the iron heat up (inside and outside) to create either a straight sleek, shiny look, or beautiful wavy beach curls. It heats up in seconds and it’s no more expensive than a Chi. Also, my iron is on from 9 am to 1 pm Tues-sat for school. I’ve had it since august and it’s still in mint condition. Can you imagine the life of it for someone who uses it for a half hour a day tops? that’s a long time.
anywho, not trying to preach, but their new iron is defiantly worth it and I feel like the only thing people know abut is Chi and GHD :/

I don’t straighten my hair very often because it is really thick and take an hour to completely straighten it. But when I do I use my chi and it works pretty good.

I think I now want a GHD or Bio Ionic >_<

those are pretty ones! mines conair, kinda clunky. I dont mind though cause I have naturally straight, thin hair. I usually straighten it only when I want it to be shiny or soft haha
my roomie has the chi one, I used it once and it was good!!

My hair is ridiculously curly and thick. It takes me at least a hour to straighten my hair- with a GOOD straightener, CHI. It takes soo long, resulting in my arms being tired and my hair getting fried.
But recently I found my new favorite invention, those blow-dryers with the comb attached to it. My roommate let me try hers and I fell in love! Lol.
It doesn’t take as long, my hair isn’t fried, and it doesn’t get that oily look at the roots.
They have them at walmart and target and sally’s, and probably any other store that sells blow dryers and straighteners.
But if you like good old fashioned straighteners, I have an ION from sally’s that works as well as my old CHI but cheaper =] and it’s lasted longer
guest
Thanks a lot this is very informative!

Paul Mitchell is way better than the Chi and never shorts out.

I have really poofy hair. None of the shampoos work for me and none of that creme junk works either. The only remedy that has ever worked has been a hair straightener. I’ve used the Chi once, but I haven’t considered buying it myself. I have bought two kinds and they have not disappointed me: Jilbere de Paris from Sally’s Beauty and Amika: from one of those stands in the middle of the mall. I actually caved in and bought it for 150 bucks. Sheesh! The one from Sally’s was 40.

i hv a corioliss, i thot it was okay..never tried other ones…but i always think they will more or less do some damage to my hair..

@black_lie@xanga - me too. I have long and thick hair so when I go to school with my hair wet, sometimes people say “I don’t understand how its still wet!…”
guest
My mom has the GHD and it’s a GREAT straightener. I use hers because I don’t own one myself. I have naturally VERY straight hair, but when I do use it, it never disappoints. It literally only takes me like 10 minutes to do my hair. I love it. I’m surprised that no one mentioned the Paul Mitchell hair straighteners. My best friend has one and it works great. I don’t know if it damages your hair though, I’ve only used it several times, but it gets hot pretty fast. I recommend that one too.
guest
I have a professional KQC straightening iron. It works wonders, although it costs about $300 canadian (I bought it for half price from a friend that workds at a salon – they get it wholesale)
