I was visiting my friend, and she smelled very sweetly of baby powder. I asked why she was using the powder at the tender age of 22.
She explained that it’s the best way to get rid of greasy hair. Obviously, shampoo is an even better way, but when there’s just no time, sprinkling a bit of baby powder on your tresses does wonders.
Have any of you ever tried this technique? What’s your remedy for greasy hair?

I heard blow-drying the roots with your hair hanging upside down helps. On cold air, though.
guest
I do this a lot.
But as a guy, spelling like baby powder kinda sucks sometimes. haha
guest
totally do this lol!
guest
me too! my neighbor told me, and as a mom to four kiddos, on the days i can’t get a shower until evening, it works wonders!
guest
lol, I actually use the baby powder thing once in awhile. It just makes your hair static-y (especially in winter w/ electric heat).
Maybe I shall try the cold air blow dryer technique? Hmm….

I use baby powder to fix greasy hair in a pinch. But, if you feel uncomfortable with the technique, invest in dry shampoo.

I do this
I learned this method in Cosmetology school. A lot of PR’s do it, ’cause shampoo doesn’t always cut it. My hair is about the same way. I can thoroughly wash it and about 2 hours after it dries it looks like I haven’t washed it. It’s awful
guest
yea i do this too and it works, except it kinda makes your hair a little airy feeling and it makes it look a little matte.
there’s also dry shampoo types things, there’s this spray called “pssst” that’s kinda like a hair spray except it’s more of an instant shampoo for when you don’t have time. it works fairly well, i like it more than the baby powder method.

but baby powder will make your hair white!!!

oooo that’s interesting…
i just might have to try this.
guest
There’s stuff that’s called “dry shampoo” that works amazingly, if you don’t like the baby powder smell!
guest
i do this too! and i thought i was the only one. hah

I tried this. It worked pretty well, but after a while it got really cakey on me for some reason. But I still use it just on my bangs.

I’ll try it.

I tried this last night! It just made my hair look extremely dull. I probably used too much, so I plan on doing it right before I take a shower tomorrow, so that way if it dulls my hair again it isn’t a big deal.
guest
I use to do this but now i found something way better that doesn’t make my hair smell of baby powder or turn it grey…
DRY SHAMPOO! <3 spray on, brush and your done! only takes a few minutes ~

@abh816@xanga - definitely tell us how try 2 goes!
@Jenzies@xanga - is the stuff called dry shampoo? is there like a particular brand or is that the brand?
guest
Interesting. So I just rub it into the scalp, or sprinkle it on my head? Because white powder on dark hair…haha, doesn’t look very nice.
guest
@Iris - dry shampoo is the product, there are several brands but not that many…www.boots.com sells several if you type it in search.
guest
@immaairheadxl@xanga - That’s what I was thinking…

I used it once when we were traveling and couldn’t get to a shower. You can also get talc powders that don’t smell like baby powder, but have difference scents such as lilac.
It does make your hair look matte, as the others have said.

baby powder does wonders, and washing your hair every day is bad for it, so it helps as your body adjusts to washing your hair less. If used in moderation, you really can’t see the white of the powder. Its a great idea!
guest
omg.ths for the tips!!!
my bangs turn greasy easily which not only makes me but obviously looks gross:(.
hope i can rid myself of washing the bangs before skool w/ the use of baby powder.:D
guest
I use baby powder in a pinch. I also have dry shampoo.
But I LOVE Bumble & bumble’s hair powder. It comes in different shades for your hair color, and it lasts all day. (Sometimes baby powder and dry shampoo don’t.) Its a little pricey, but I think its worth it.

i totally do this. because i shampoo every other day, and condition everyday. Sometimes it leaves my hair a little greasy.
But it keeps my hair shiny and healthy =)

I have dark hair, so I use tinted mineral veil. I bought it and found it too dark for my pale skin, but it works wonders on greasy roots! I also use cornstarch rather than baby powder as it tends to be finer.
guest
I’ve tried it before! It works like a charm when I don’t have time to take a shower in the morning :X.
I have pitch black hair, so if I put on too much, it shows.. but other than that, it works.
guest
Ha, did it like 15 minutes ago…
guest
I just used some today..
i use it probably once a week or so
guest
@Iris - Try 2 went perfectly. I sprinkled just a little bit on my hair and rubbed them together, then ran my hands through my hair, and brushed it. It wasn’t dull but the oil was gone =) I’m definitely glad I decided to try this a second time.
guest
i heard that baby powder works ’cause it soaks up the oil?
guest
it works for me.
just don’t use a lot or your hair will look gray!
guest
I use the baby powder. But when I have my hair dark, the baby powder shows. I find straightening it makes it less greasy. My best remedy would be a hat haha.
guest
HOW do people end up doing this? I mean, seriously? I tried it once and it failed miserably. Maybe I was doing something wrong.
guest
i somtimes dont use condition in summer
guest
I’ve been looking for an answer, I have to wash my hair
everyday. I might try this. Or look for the dry shampoo,
I’ve never seen it. R. Hood/Sunsetheart
guest
As a quick-fix it’s fine but I tend to stick to shampoos that I know will clean my hair well and products that won’t leave it greasy (current favourite: Wella Perfect Hair).
guest
if you don’t have baby powder on hand any powder (talcum) willl do. also, rubbing dry oatmeal in your roots will also take out the grease. some of us with long or wavy hair do not wash every day because it dries out our hair.
magnolia / 1054 posts
this works as well as dry shampoo
guest
hahaha i do that! but only if my hairs nasty and i have to go somewhere and don’t have time to shower
guest
Yeah baby powder is awesome… I always carry a small thing of baby powder in my purse for when my hair gets randomly greasy (like if I’m wearing a hat or something). That also worked wonders over Christmas when I was stuck in the airport over night with all those storms. I just got dry shampoo though, and I really like it as well! It’s very easy to use… And doesn’t leave anything white in my hair.
guest
I can’t see this working for me…
guest
Baby powder works if you have blonde hair… I have brown hair now so it looks a little ashy or dandruffy…
I find hairspray is good, as the alcohol in the hairspray soaks up the oil in your hair

I find baby powder helps my fine oily hair but only if it has cornstarch mixed with it since if I use just baby powder my hair gets tangled and static.
