Editor’s Note: We recently had a post about dry winter skin. Melanie offers a possible solution.
Cold weather tends to bring about many beauty concerns such as super dry skin. My hands in particular become extremely dry in the winter months and deserve intense attention. There are so many lotions and dry skin products on the market that it can be rather overwhelming to choose one.
I will say that for extremely dry skin, the best product by far that I have found is L’Occitane’s Beurre de Karite, which translates to Shea Butter.
This 100% shea butter product is thick and velvety in texture and has a lovely subtle shea nut scent. It can be used on your face, hands, body, and even hair as a conditioning treatment. Rather practical indeed.
So how you have ever tried a shea butter product? What do you use for extremely dry skin care?

Why not just buy pure shea butter? It’s less expensive.

I have never heard of this. Do they see it at regular drug stores or do you have to go to a specialty store to get it? One product I think is amazing is Burt’s Bees Hand Salve. It is greasy but works great for dry skin.

You people only try these products because they’re a brand name. I think brands like L’Occitane and Jurlique have outrageously priced items. You can get the same products elsewhere for a fraction of the price, and the products are just as effective.

Where can you buy shea butter? At, like, Walgreens?

I use almond oil after a shower or bath, dry off then use either Jergens, Palmers or Baby lotion.

My face always gets dry in the winter, and it’s frustrating and annoying. I always have either a cream, with shea butter in it, on hand, or an Aveeno product. Ah yes, Aveeno = love.

My dad bought me L’Occitane’s Beurre de Karite last winter; and I’ve been using it for dry skin ever since. It’s amazing stuff. I like to put it on my face at night (your face will look a bit too glossy if you apply in the morning), and wake up with amazingly moisturized, smooth skin.

A really great lotion that i have found that does not make your skin oily because i use a lot of facial cleansers which dries out my skin because it was oily is a really cheap and simple thing to buy at either Wal-mart or Wal greens is Hemp lotion i just bought a fairly decent size bottle about 4 weeks ago which i still have 3/4 of the bottle using it twice a day and it only cost me $6!! I highly recommend this product it’s truely magnificent!

Some people with dry skin have reactions to most lotions, for example they may get a burning sensation. One lotion to try that would not ’cause such reaction is ‘CeraVe’. The reason being is that it has no oils. It is also ideal for those who have oily skin that gets dried out after a shower.

shea butter is my #1 staple skin care product (:
I usually buy the 1 lb unrefined shea on ebay/amazon for $12.
worked like magic to cure my eczema flare last year.
