I really love the look called “panda eyes” that a lot of high fashion magazine ads show on their models. It looks like this:
I did my own interpretation and this is what I came up with:
Here’s what I used:
MAC mineralize pressed powder foundation
MAC soft ochre paint pot (base)
MAC shadestick in sharkskin
Rimmel London special eyes eyeshadow in jet black
L’ Oreal wear infinite smokey eyes eyeshadow palette (used to blend with black on top of crease and highlight)
Clinique high impact mascara
MAC blush in gingerly
Ben Nye eyeliner in black
Rimmel London eye brow pencil in panama
Bath and Body Works raspberry plum lip balm
What do you think of this look? Would you try it? What’s the craziest makeup you’ve ever worn?

I love it!!! Looks good on you. Unfortunatly I have to wear glasses…

id love to sport these, but my boy hates them so i cant :[
guest
That looks good on you. But I imagine on paler people, it just looks like they got suckerpunched.
guest
I love it, and since I am gothic, I used to do it ! But I prefer to mix grey and black powder, it is a little bit softer and make a great effect of shadow, lightning eyes.
The problem of this kind of make up is that everybody can’t do this… It depends on look. It is easy to look “gothic” without wanted it with this kind of make up, and the result is sometimes weird.
guest
As long as the person trying it didn’t have bags under their eyes, they’d be good I think haha. Otherwise, I think it’s taking the smokey eye to the next level. Looks excellent on you.

All that makeup for “panda eyes” it’s cute but I’m not sure if I could pull it off.
x Aim
guest
That seems like an AWFUL lot of makeup, and while it looks great on you, it’d make me look much older. And I’m old enough as it is.
guest
I would look like death if I did that. I’m pale as a ghost.
guest
It looks cute, but I couldn’t pull it off.
guest
i love it!
guest
I’m pale, pale, pale. Though once upon a goth phase I use to wear thick eyeliner, thick mascara, and red lipstick.
guest
You pull it off well, but I don’t think I’d do so well with this look.
dahlia / 2942 posts
i’m not a fan of that look. it’s overdoing it for me.
orchid / 160 posts
That’s too much for me, I like wearing as little makeup as I can get away with.
guest
too much makeup.
i think you look nice with, but probably better without.
guest
how pretty! good job. :]
guest
It looks horrible, sorry.
There’s a difference between doing the smokey eye technique and overdoing with the color black. It makes it look unclean more than anything.
sunflower / 353 posts
I’m not into the panda eye thing, so I don’t know if yours is good or bad. I know I’d never try it, because my eyes are actually my favorite part of my facial features and I feel like too much eye makeup would ruin them.
guest
i think it looks pretty awesome!
i always have really bad dark rings under my eyes and i’m ghostly pale, so i’d look like a vampire if i tried it *sigh*
guest
@aalluu@xanga - i say go for it…. it’s not like he owns you!
guest
@brighxtbluexeyes@xanga - lol same here
guest
It looks great on you!!! I’m so white, my skin is almost translucent….ok, not that bad, but you get the idea. I feel like it would look super wrong on me. XD
magnolia / 1030 posts
no. gross. stop. only on the runway
guest
great! now uhh….maybe u should give us instructions on how to do it?
guest
panda eyes look awesome on you! =)
i would hesitate trying it thought since it’s quite a bit of makeup.
sunflower / 487 posts
Im pretty sure if i did something like that people would be asking how I got 2 black eyes. lol
guest
Dang! Don’t listen to those other people!
Rock it. It mosdef looks good on you.
I mean, I wouldn’t advise you wearing that sort of make-up on an everyday basis, but when you need to glam it up, why not?
It’s dramatic and fresh. But some of those other people might be right about it not being a universal trend.
sunflower / 327 posts
reminds me of avril lavgne (sp?)
guest
i always love a dark eye and i think it looks good on you, but i don’t think i could pull it off.
guest
i usually do this with my liquid eyeliner, but i don’t apply the smokey eyeshadow part or anything. does anyone else wear their eyeliner thick, if so how do you do it?
daisy / 613 posts
I think it’s way too over the top to be worn seriously…
guest
It makes me nervous, like it might start dripping off your face or something. I mean, not you specifically, but panda eyes in general. I’m not that crazy with makeup, but every once in a while I like to use sparkly eye liner.
guest
@aalluu@xanga - do what you want.
guest
try taking a nap with your eyeliner on.
guest
only some people can pull them off. people who typically have oblong eyes or very big round ones. otherwise it doesnt look so hot. a great complexion and olive tone also help. im pale and its not such a good look unless i get my face ultra porcelain and tanner.
guest
I’m personally not a fan of the look. Why spend so much money on something like this when guys don’t even like makeup, especially 8 pounds of it around the eyes?
sunflower / 297 posts
it looks cool in pictures, but really scary in real life!
guest
I love not wearing makeup. I pretty much never wear makeup, and when I do it’s such a thin amount of eyeliner that you’d have to observe closely to see it.
I remember a few years ago I was doing the panda eyes thing. My skin is so ridiculously pale, though, that it looked horrible. Plus, I’m one of the lucky girls who look better without makeup than I do with it.
Ha, I actually have a habit of rubbing my eyes anyway.. Thick eyeliner + Rubbing my eyes = Nightmare.
Plus as someone said right before me, it looks scary in real life. :/
guest
hm i genetically have natural “panda eyes” and they get enhanced when i stress and don’t sleep. i wanna get rid of my panda eyes!!
and man. that’s just way too much makeup. raccoon mask/panda eyes are ridiculous.
guest
I LOVE it. How do I do that?!
guest
Personally, I think it looks better on you than it does on the model.
They don’t work on everyone–you’re one of the lucky few that can pull it off without looking odd.
guest
hi =) just wanted to say………..I LOVE IT!!!
gonna try it out for a date w/ my hubby. =) thanks. =)
guest
As much as I LOVE that style of make-up, I think I’d look pretty scary because I’m very pale…but I’m willing to try it, just to see.
guest
I like the panda eye look
but thats just a bit too dramatic for me
sunflower / 308 posts
I can’t pull that off plus I like my make up to look natural.
cherry blossom / 48 posts
My eyes are too smalll….I’d never be able to look good in those
guest
That looks really good on you! I wanna try that b/c I’ve really gotten into eye shadow lately, but I’m much too much of a beginner. Plus, you listed like 50 things that you used and I’m much too lazy to get all of that to try! Haha!
guest
You look cute but I hate makeup.
guest
its stupid. anything that enhances your natural look is worth it.. anything that makes you look like a animal or a rock probably isn’t.
daisy / 742 posts
Eh, some people can pull it off, and some can’t. Personally I think it doesn’t look good on the general population of girls.
I would never go out wearing my make up like that. One, it doesn’t work on me (I have really small eyes you see. Doing that to my eyes would make them disappear altogether), and two, I don’t want people to see me as some unclassy, trashy whore.
guest
I kind of like it, but I wouldn’t use as many products to create the effect and would probably make it a smaller area around my eyes (mainly around the lower lids). I may have to experiment sometime.
guest
it looks good on you! haha im too pale for that. lol I wear smokey eye all the time though. I think its like smokey eye but super enhance!
guest
i’ve never used makeup before xD
guest
way too much work for me.
guest
I like it.
guest
That’s a loooot of makeup !
I tried to do it one time but with BarryM dazzle dust but it’s like the blackest black ever so i just looked like death itself.
guest
I mean, it looks good on runway and in pictures…. but people walking around campus like that look like 5 different levels of ass.
cherry blossom / 30 posts
@rokcndy@xanga - lol, yeah i do it sometimes, and he hates it..i still do it and MAKE him kiss my eyelids.ahaha girl power!!
guest
So basically, it’s heavy (heavy, super heavy) black eye make up and the rest of the look is as neutral as possible? I dig it. Every time I do liner under my eyes I end up looking like a racoon by the end of a night (smuuuudge!). And considering I’m going for a panda look, I’d be hard if I finished the night looking like a racoon. There’s a joke to be made somewhere in there! Hehe!
@SeitekiChibiNeko@xanga - I love your little badtz-maru profile pic!
guest
I like it, works well with you.
It’d never work on me, though.
guest
@AllMyNamesAreTaken@xanga - You are absolutely correct about this look making paler types look like they’ve been sucker-punched–I was a makeup artist for years, and I’m also uber-pale, so…I know it’s bad, LOL.
Maybe I’m showing my age (I’m 35), but to me, this isn’t a ”look”. Rather, this is ”Avril-Lavigne-For-The-Uncoordinated”. Save this one for the runways, definitely.
guest
Hm… it works for high fashion, but most of the real life examples just come across looking dirty and whorish. Yours are actually the best I’ve seen. Let’s stick with the smoky eye, girls.
guest
I don’t understand the point of spending so much money on makeup…it more or less looks the same as if you were just wearing eyeliner, which I do, anyway.
Meh.
guest
Looks great on you! need more instructions to try it out!
guest
i love it. and i always have loved it but ive never put too much effort in it like i should to get the ultimate panda eyes thing. one day ill try but im not sure if it’ll go with my darn eyes.
guest
It’s cute on you, but I don’t think I could do it correctly.
guest
overkill. thats not a good thing, either
guest
Might as well punch yourself in both eyes.
guest
i like it! for me, it’s too much for every day wear. but to a party or on a night out i’d definitely try it. i went through a goth phase too and did this look but to a lesser extreme. i think it looks awesome on you and you did a great job with your interpretation!
peony / 2 posts
A lot of people cant pull off that look. I think you did a reeeally good job. Its like the new smokey eye, but its hard to make it look good.
guest
Panda eyes = sexy
i love em :]
guest
Perfect Dubbing for the name of that look.
orchid / 205 posts
What do you call a woman with 2 black eyes?
Nothin’, you told them twice!
But all jokes aside, it is kinda hot, Charlize theron did it in Hancock, it was super hot on her.
guest
absolutely a fan of this. i have blueish grey eyes, and to do the darker around them makes the blue pop. i generally do something mild for day to day.. always with black eyeliner and mascara, and sometimes with grey/black shadow.. but for going out i love it.
cherry blossom / 40 posts
@fuzzi_mushroom@xanga - I agree. This is hideous.
guest
Panda eyes should not inspire anyone. It’s totally ugly.
guest
all those products are such a waste of money
i wish women would understand that they are gorgeous without pounds of makeup on and hundred of dollars a year being wasted
go buy yourself some ice cream and a chick flick, youll feel better in the long run
guest
It looks good in moderation and depending on who’s wearing it. I’d wear it maybe like….twice a year. I wouldn’t do it everyday though. would probably go through tons of makeup and money on top of my eyes looking horrible from the look after taking it off.
guest
@fuzzi_mushroom@xanga - Agreed.
Nothing against you personally, but some things I feel were simply made for the runway.
guest
I love this look.
You look well beautiful.
x
guest
i thin its nice for a really fancy night out to a party, but not everyday. you did an amazing job!!
guest
@aalluu@xanga - you can do whatever you want, just because he doesnt like it doesnt mean you cant. a night out with the girls? go for it!
yeah i def. couldnt pull that off, first of all im not cute with makeup and secondly i wear teh glasses
guest
Aw you’re really pretty
Looks awesome toooo, not a lot of people can pull that off.
guest
To get panda eyes, simply go for 3 or 4 days without sleeping
guest
When I was younger and first started wearing make-up, I kinda always ended up with a look like that since I was more into the goth look. Back then, everyone hated it and just called it goth or black eyes. I’m glad to see it back in style and with a nicer name.
tulip / 15 posts
yeah, it looks like scene kid makeup… the overly dramatic, uses three sticks of eyeliner, where are my actual eyes type of thing
best left at the runway
guest
Meh. I just rub eyeliner all over my eyelids. Hahah.
guest
I like it. Hmmm, craziest makeup I’ve ever done? I was with my best friend, and she had bought some bright, bloodred lipstick. It didn’t go so well, darker colors like that look really bad on me. And she said I looked like a vampire because my skin is so pale.Lol
guest
I’ve done my makeup like this before, but every guy I know hates it. My boyfriend things I look great naturally, so I don’t feel the need to wear buttloads of makeup.
daisy / 512 posts
lip balm? on your eyes???
guest
The style is overdone and shouldn’t be worn in normal everyday life. It makes people look like crack whores, honestly. Makeup is supposed to make you look better, healthier, more awake. A bunch of black makeup around your eyes definitely doesn’t do that at all.
On models or in magazines? Maybe.
Smokey eyes can look nice. But this is way too much.
guest
it looks fine, but you had to use way too much product just to do it.
guest
i like it. i know everyone hates on a lot of make-up, but i think it looks cool. i couldn’t pull it off though
guest
Yeah, a tutorial would be helpful. This is a nice look depending where you’re going. Special occasion kinda’ thing, not something I’d just wear out in the day time. Also one of those things that’d probably look awful with little practice. It’s iffy, but I do like the look.
guest
love it
guest
ugh! I hate raccoon eyes! It looks like you spent a weekend with Chris Brown.
guest
I like the panda eye look. I did notice however, you did a softer faded out edge on the shadow and you went a bit higher than just the lid where as the model pictured above has a panda look that’s cleaner. It looks great either way though =D.
guest
I try to get rid of “panda eyes” Haha. But It’s okay sometimes.
guest
you look great. i have such big eyes for an asian chick, i cant pull that off =(
guest
i think it looks great! not something i’d wear on a daily basis but more for a special event or clubbing or something of that nature.
guest
That would NOT look good on me at all – I’d look like I’m sporting two black eyes. Haha, but kudos to you and to anyone else who can actually pull it off.
guest
I’m really not a fan of this look on anyone. Runway models can do it because the point is to have something look interesting, not necessarily GOOD…
At least that’s how I feel about it.
guest
I think it looks good on you. :] Not many girls can pull it off.
But I gotta tell you, MAC foundation is really bad for your(as in, anyone’s) skin.
cherry blossom / 29 posts
i love this look and usually wear it, lately i’ve been wearing lighter makeup to switch it up but panda eyes are the usual.
guest
i love it! i’ve been thinking about trying this look recently but still waiting for an occasion to try it because wearing my makeup to work like that probably wouldn’t be appropriate it haha but i think it’s a great going out look.
guest
That’s pretty hawt. I saw something similar in the independent film “Happy Joy Doctor Panda Hump House”, which was a documentary about some guy who jumped over the fence at various zoos in a lab coat with some lubricant.
guest
wow, it looks really good on you.
i try to do the smokey eye look and just end up looking like i’ve got 2 black eyes. haha
guest
I’m not that crazy about the look, but then, I’d probably look horrible with them. xD;;;
guest
I love this look.
I actually use it on a daily basis =]
guest
On the right person, for the right occasion, but I don’t think it would work on me.

guest
eeeehhhh i thought it was called “smokey eyes” or like REALLY REALLY DARK smokey eyes.. not panda eyes.
panda eyes are dark under eye circles.
guest
how much did that cost, exactly?
guest
lol when i saw the tittle of the article. i thought you meant eyebags and i was wondering why would anyone want to get them?
haha my bad >.<
guest
This would look great matched with something that is silver or white. The lighter the clothes the better with these eyes.
guest
I liek it, it looks dark and sexy..You have to be gorgeous to pull that off.
I find it ironic that ppl claim its too much makeup but i see many girls go over the top with bronzers and foundation..aka high school teeny bopper makeup..
I love dramatic sexy eyes…men love it too
keep doing what u do girl
