We all know that tartan is a pattern consisting of criss-crossed horizontal and vertical bands in multiple colours and is particularly associated with Scotland because of the Scottish kilts.
But recently, with tartan being turned on its head and no longer limited to Scottish kilts, it can be seen everywhere on everything imaginable, without the bagpipe of course.
Footwear featuring the fabric:
Matching clutch bag…
…and trousers! (okay, this is a little too much now…)
Tartan coats…
Jumpsuits/playsuits (whatever they are called)
and last but not least, even on eye-patches! (made famous by Agyness Deyn)
How do you feel about the checkered, tartan design? Is it hot or not?

guest
Fucking hot. <3
guest
The coat is gorgeous!
guest
I like it, but it can easily be overdone.
guest
SO hot… adore the coat.
guest
I really like the coat!
guest
That was a gorgeous coat. I like it, as long as it isn’t overdone.
guest
It’s just like anything else. It can be sexy as hell, but it can also fall flat on its face. It’s all about what it looks like and how you wear it!

I don’t really think it’s a new thing. My skirt was plaid back in my private school days.
sunflower / 487 posts
when worn correctly, very sexy =)
guest
Most of it’s hot. Nix the eyepatch, though.

it’s okay on certain things. small items, definitely not the pants, seem like cute accessories. its not a far cry from plaid, which is coming back.
sunflower / 294 posts
i love the ankle boots and pants.
guest
zomg the eye patch! I gotta get me one of those!
guest
I love them all.
Especially the eye patch. I would rock that.
guest
Um please please tell me what brand those tartan booties are! I am going to buy them once I find out!!! <3
Everything besides that ugly playsuit is hot…I love tartan :3
guest
I don’t think this is a recent thing. I had tartan stuff as a kid…
guest
i could totally see blair waldorf wearing the red/blue tartan check open toe heels, and i love the coat, but that’s about it.
sunflower / 327 posts
i like it. just dont wear more than 2 of them at one time =P
guest
I love them. The shoes, trousers and jumpsuit are my faves.
guest
OMG THAT COAT. I WANT IT.
guest
I love tartan in small doses. It’s akin to adding an extremely flavorful ingredient to a dish: a little goes a LONG way.
Except in the case of very large-scale tartan in a muted palette: I think that can be used in larger pieces (such as that coat which I am now infatuated with)!
guest
i had tartan pajamas as a kid lol xP
hmm, the last photo–that’s from a House of Holland show, right?–is cool.
guest
hot
guest
the coat is great.
the other stuff reminds me of clueless and limited too from 12 years ago. fashion dont.
guest
oh my god. the shoes are so sexy.
guest
Hot. I love tartan! I don’t have any, though.
guest
Love the coat and the pumps, but the jumpsuit isn’t really suitable for too many people…
guest
Tartan’s tricky.
There’s huge potential to make it look cute (generally in smaller doses), but there’s also a huge chance it’ll turn out tacky.
guest
Hot! i want it all. and i love AgyD
guest
I think it’s nice but you can only wear so much of it and only pull it off in a certain way…I love the open-toe shoe and the jacket, but that’s about it. The pants and jumpsuit…absolutely not.
sunflower / 308 posts
I don’t find all of them to be hot expect for the Tartan coat. Loved the coat.
guest
those are HOTT
guest
that coat and high heel on the right are ridiculously cute!
guest
Definitely hot.
Of course, it has to be worn properly.
But still very hot.
guest
I love Tartan, always have! Hot Hot Hot!

It’s great only if used in a subtle manner. If someone walked around in a tartan coat, trousers, purse and heels all at the same time, that would be gross. The Agyness Deyn outfit? I can’t imagine anyone wearing that in the real world.
guest
Those things scare me.
guest
Those ankle boots are hot. I could definitely see the character Rebecca Bloomwood, ( or myself ! ), wearing them. The coat is nice, and the skirt suit is cute, but would be better, if either the skirt or the jacket was a solid color. The eyepatch is ridiculous. The pants and the jumpsuit would suck in any color or pattern. So I guess it just depends …

I love the coat. I don’t think I’m daring enough to wear it anywhere else though.
guest
LOVE them but not on trousers though it looks good on slim ppl
guest
coat is cute and i’d probably use the clutch. but more than one type of clothing or accessory with tartan print is too much for me
guest
Eyepatch wtf? LOL.
guest
the coat is so cute!!
I think it has to do with the colour and pattern…
maybe the red over does it. the coat would be really cute maybe with a little pink and purple too
guest
I own those jeans in white I also got tartan tights (:
guest
I love those pants I want to be able to wear those and a Guns and Roses shirt

Aww when I was little my mom made me and my 3 sisters matching jumpers out of the red and green pattern and we all got our pictures taken for Christmas. So cute.
Ahhh that was a long time ago.
It reminds me too much of private school uniforms now though.
But I might use the bag if I had the right outfit to wear it with.

Plaid is a classic style that thank God will NEVER go away. I love plaid! It is HOT!
guest
i think it’s cute! i love the shoes and the coat. and i had a pair of pants like that in high school! lol…but yes, it can definitely be overdone.
guest
Trousers and jumpsuit/playsuit = Gorgeous!
I think punk is cool. They use a lot of tartan and plaid, and I think it’s awesome. All in all, I love tartan and plaid, but I hate to say that:
I’m actually very, very tired of it >_< Almost to the point where it hurts my eyes. And mind.
The way I see it, the brown, plaid jackets used to belong to the indiekid. The red/black tartan trousers belonged to the rocker. But now they are absolutely everywhere.
I wear a bit of it myself, I have to say. because it is too gorgeous, but I sometimes even feel ashamed when I wear more than one different tartan pattern. (Hard to avoid, as my coat is plaid, and outerwear is hard to avoid ingeneral)
guest
The coat and purse are cute.
guest
love the pumps!!!
guest
I would wear those red pants with my Docs and a white t-shirt.
orchid / 199 posts
i really love some of these!
… i could do without some of the others though haha.
guest
COAT AND PANTS<3
guest
Any pattern is good in small doses. The pants are a bit much. They look pretty punk rock, though. I like that about ‘em. Makes me wish I could rewind back a few years, loose a couple pounds, and stud them up. Mhmm.
guest
ahaha
I LOVE THEM <3

The first shoe… those are really in fashion in Vietnam and I got to say, I hate it! but the one behind it, i love it.
matching everything kind of … ugly, to me anyways.

i’m cool with tartan. it used to be my school mascot. the only tartan piece of clothing i own, though, is a scarf
orchid / 126 posts
Depends on what it is made into, shoes are great…
the coat, very cute…
the clutch is HORRID.
guest
HOT! period. but that’s just our opinion ….
hydrangea / 51 posts
I love the coat! I think tartan checks should NOT be used with bright colors… I think they tend to look nicer with neutral combinations.
Of course, I love tartan when it’s on a Scottish man’s kilt.
guest
Would love a pair of tartan shoes. Almost bought some last year, might still do it too.
guest
completely hot when done correctly.
