Put one male and one female together, both aged 40 years, and what do you get? You will probably find that the majority of men will look much younger than the women.
This is because men secrete slightly more sebum (oil) on the skin than women, making them sweat more, and allowing them to produce more hair growth (hence why they are also so sexily hairy in many areas). Therefore, the majority of men are oily skin types, and this is another reason why men have more acne problems than women do; excessive sebum is produced on the skin due to the influence of the hormones. The pores of the skin will become blocked with sebum and combined with sweat and bacteria. It is the perfect condition for the growth of acne.
It looks like people with oily skin are the worst case scenario for women. But you are wrong.
In fact, people with oily skin have by far a better future than any of us because they have the ultimate benefit; they do not age quickly! So for women who are very age conscious and have nightmares of premature aging, oily skin is what you need!
They may have acne problems and their face is constantly shiny, but at the same time, their skin is actually constantly nourished with the skin’s self-produced natural oil ‘sebum.’ Along with moisture balance, it will never become dehydrated or dry, and you do not want to go there. I shall explain why:
- People with oily skin generally have thicker skin layers, allowing them to store much more fat, nutrients in the subcutaneous layer of our skin, and adequate water in our Papillary Layer (also known as the ‘Water Tank’ Layer). In comparison, a person with dry or dehydrated skin will have thinner skin layers and is therefore unable to store such mass deposits. Think of it this way; our skin has several layers. We all have the same amount of layers, but the difference is that the size of these layers vary for different people with different skin types.
- Our skin is very clever. It will help us to store food and water. “Nutrients” in our skin to help us for the future or for climate change. It is similar to how animals store food to prepare for the winter. They were never taught this because it is their nature from birth. In the same way, this is what our skin does for us every day because our skin need these nutrients to live in order to protect us.
- The Fibroblast cells in our skin help to make proteins such as Collagen (for strength), and Elastin (for the elasticity of our skin). It is also these cells which play a critical role in wound healing. As we grow older and our skin ages with us it will become dry because our sweat glands become less active. The reason for skin becoming visibly aging with wrinkles is because of the fall of Elastin fibres. Our skin will become thinner, easily damaged, and the skin’s ability to heal itself will decrease. Therefore, those who have dry skin will age more quickly as their skin is already thin, dry, and/or dehydrated. As a result, their skin appears with more wrinkles and fine lines earlier than expected.
This is why one of the main advices from traditional parents is to find a man at least ten years older than you. Why? Because when you hit forty, you won’t be crying when people ask you “So who’s this man you have not yet introduced us to? Your little brother?”
Please don’t worry. There are many ways to help promote a better skin condition and to fight premature aging. As always, and I stress this all the time: take good care of your skin.
Even if you have normal, or “perfect” skin, and feel that you need not do anything to it, abandoning your skin can cause your skin to change and to lack in moisture, resulting in dry or dehydrated skin.
Skin CAN change.
Does it bother you that women age more quickly than men? Do you think you’ll take this into account when picking a significant other? How do you prevent aging quickly?

I usually get pegged as older. But I’m only 15. And all the guys I like are at least three years older than me, so it’s all good
guest
take a man’s aging process into consideration when choosing a mate? uhhh…how about paying more attention to how he treats me and what kind of person he is lol
tulip / 21 posts
I thought men were supposed to look older? We certainly kick the bucket first. And you don’t have to tell me about acne… oh boy… 23 and I still have acne episodes. Interestingly enough, birth control pills are one of the best ways to prevent acne, another reason for females having better skin.
guest
I dunno if this is true…well, maybe it’s true for real life people but celebrities (haha who are obviously NOT real life people xD) women always look way younger than they are and men look a little younger than what they are
possibly b/c of all the stuff hollywood does to itself to make itself look beautiful

I’m Asian so.. I don’t really worry too much.
guest
yes!!! i’m so glad I have oily skin!!!
guest
I have really oily skin and I’ve heard that Asians generally have skin that makes them look like they age slower than those of other ethnicities, so I guess I’ll be looking pretty young for a while even when I’m older.
guest
I’m 18, and my boyfriend is 16 and Asian, and people always think he’s older than me by at least a year.
guest
If I meet a great guy, I don’t think I’m going to dump him because he might make me look old…
guest
@LadyLibellule@xanga - agree
guest
lol. my mom is a year younger than my dad but he looks at least 6 years younger…
personally i get mistaken for a gr 8 or 9 at all times, the niners at my school tend to bully me in the halls – im in gr 10….
guest
hmm interesting, never knew that about oily skin lol
guest
I’m a 20-year old junior in college, and people often ask me what grade in high school I am.
guest
Also I would like to correct you.. that men DO NOT suffer from acne more than women. It’s actually the opposite.
There was a study done and according to about.com
“The results of the survey found acne affected:
50.9% of women versus 42.5% of men, between the ages of 20 and 29. 35.2% women versus 20.1% men, between the ages of 30-39″
and so on. I like this post, but please keep the facts right.

This whole “beige don’t age” idea is very interesting!
I wonder if Indians are considered Asian? At least in the aging sense.

*slathering on the moisturizer* at least we don’t have pattern baldness.

i have super oily skin like no other. even my eye shadow comes off if i were to put on the base. thats how oily it is. i always envied ppl with non-oily skin. but after reading this, i guess having oily skin isnt that bad! i guess i wont age fast
guest
I’ve never heard of this before. In my opinion, women (at least in the African-American culture) don’t age any faster or slower than men. I don’t think any of my family member look their age; they all look younger.
guest
@StrawberryShy@xanga - how many people did they survey on about.com? i always question the validity of surveys and studies. one day u hear that milk is good for babies, for example, and the next day it’s bad for them. what’s valid?
guest
Yes, I hate this. My SO is older than me, it was never a problem for me until recently. I just started to look much older than him. I am not sure if it’s because of the way I dress, or really because of the way I look.
I always have dry skin, and no matter how much lotions or facial products (excluding making up because the only makeup I use is eyeliner)
Now I have no idea of what to do. I tried to dress differently but it just always seems like I am older than him.
guest
I’m not too concerned, all the women in my family age really well. And I always attract younger men for some reason, so I don’t think I can be choosy in this case.
guest
women give birth and it ages them! Also, they use make-up a lot and it’s bad 4 the skin, which also ages them!!
guest
=[ i have dehydrated skin. and i dread premature ageing
guest
acne or aging? hm.
guest
I learned this is Biology class last year, and now I’m happy to have oily skin. I know I get it from my parents, and that’s why people they my parents (in their late 40′s) still get compliments like, “You look like Nicole’s brother/sister!”
sunflower / 260 posts
I’ve always found it to be the opposite – that men look OLDER than women of the same age. Especially since more men bald and let their hair turn gray where as women care more and tend to keep up appearances.
guest
I am not sure how true that is or how valid this survey was. What were the original sources? Where was the study published? Did they take into consideration that society is much more critical of women in the aging process than men? Men are allowed to look their age, women aren’t. Look at Hollywood.
Anyway, since I look younger than what I am, my mom says I finally stopped looking like a teenager at 32, and most ethnic people age better than most caucasians due to increased melanonin in the skin, I am not concerned.
Exfolaition, moisturization, and anti-wrinkle cream as preventative helps.
guest
i don’t know if this is true b/c i know a lot of guys who look older who are the same age; people always think i’m a lot younger than i am (but then maybe having oily/acne-prone skin when i was younger is a factor? though my skin is really combination oily/dry).
guest
@i_iLaLaLa@xanga - True.. women are faced with many more stress factors in life, which ages them considerably. The kind of skin you have, oily or non-oily is not the only reason if it is even one.. that women age faster than men.
guest
@Erika_Steele@xanga - if you google oily skin and aging, they all say pretty much the same thing the blogger stated that oily skin slows down the signs of aging. but i agree with you, exfoliating, mosturizing and using antiwrinkle creams should help too. plus drinking plenty of water.
HOWEVER! i still don’t like the fact that my face is always, always shiny! i go through two blotting papers just for my face. ugh.
guest
@just_melmel@xanga - when I say sources I mean sources published from a scientific journal, not Google.
Again, people are more critical of women when it comes to aging than men and what she said:
“Hence, the reason women look older than men can not be correlated to only one reason: acne or the lack of oily skin. “

how something looks is subjective. I want to see the data from the sources of how these people determined that women looked older than men at the same age. I want to interpret the actual study for myself from their findings to their methodology. Determining how someone looks is a very qualitative study. It is based on perspective and I want to know how the researches measured it.
guest
so the fact taht I have extremely oily skin should now give me a warm fuzzy feeling, right?
guest
@Bitswt02@xanga -
It was a survey done at a university so the results are more reliable.
“according to a survey completed at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine.
More than 1,000 men and women were asked to complete a survey to determine the prevalence of acne in adults.” (source: http://acne.about.com/od/adultsacne/f/menvswomen.htm)
I’ve
also found other websites that say the same. The percentage of women
compared to men who have acne are significantly greater.
“The statistics suggest that 50% of all adult women have acne, as compared to only about 25% of adult men.”
(source: http://www.starwarsactorsdatabase.info/adultacne.html)
Although
this was a very well written piece, there is much to be critical about.
Acne is caused by many factors, not only oil skin. Therefore, oily skin is not the only cause for acne. It is also safe to say that oily skin does not always mean you will have acne problems. Studies have shown that men do have oilier skin than women, which proves my previous point.
Hence, the reason women look older than men can not be correlated to only one reason: acne or the lack of oily skin.

I have super dry hands and feet in the winter, but otherwise my skin is unremarkable.
My hands and feet are going to be 80 when I hit 30 D:
guest
I’m just trying to prevent myself from unhealthy diets by staying aware of the food content lol. Having acne is not fun. I used to care less about my skin even though people around me told me to do something about it.
guest
@StrawberryShy@xanga - thanks so much for the information. the results of that survey doesn’t surprise me though. If the biology of our complex bodies were that easy to figure out, as this post suggests, we’d have found the cure for cancer by now.
but the post does bring up a lot of social issues that women face, although i don’t like the fact that lovelyish attributes most of the reasons why women always look older than men to biology alone.
i had just completed a course on evolutionary psychology last fall (in english, it’s basically a field mixing evolutionary biology and cognitive psychology), and i learned that many evolutionary psychologists agree that women always look older because a woman is valued for her youth, while men are praised for their status and material wealth. because it usually takes time to acquire a good job and a bank account, for example, it’s been widely accepted that aging for older men are seen in a positive light, whereas as soon as women start to age, we see them as “old”.
Of course there is just too much for me to explain here.
I recommend a few books for anyone who’s interested in this still mostly unexplored field:
“Introducing Evolutionary Psychology” by Dylan Evans and Oscar Zarate (a dummy’s guide to what the science is about)
“Why Beautiful People Have More Daughters” by Alan Miller and Satoshi Kanazawa (another fun read for the popular masses…2 evo. psychs explain why we do what we do, from dating to shopping to going to war)

My skin is oily in some areas, not others. People say I look my age so I’m happy =).
guest
i think it depends on a lot of factors also. genetics, stress, health/nutrition (smokers, diabetics and alcoholics tend to have a very unhealthy pallor). african american women seem to age the best. most of my black friends look 20 years younger than they actually are (unfortunately a lot of them also suffer other health issues - diabetes for one).
guest
Well, I have oily skin, so I guess I’m in luck!
It doesn’t matter much to me because I’ve always looked very young anyway. I have had some people assume me to be a few years older than I actually am, but that’s because I dress nicely and carry myself well. I’m a sophomore in college right now, but sometimes I still get mistaken for a high school student…it’s probably also genetics because my mom looks at least 10 years younger than what she is right now
guest
That’s the only reason I can bear having extremely oily skin, lol.
guest
I think how much time someone spends in the sun also as something to do with how you’ll look in the future.
guest
I usually see women looking younger than men….
guest
not all women look older than men especially since some women get plastic surgery/botox and wear makeup besides i can never tell how old a person really is just by looking at them. some look older than they really are some look younger than they really are so can never be too sure but good informative points.
guest
@Erika_Steele@xanga - point taken. and i started to do research too, coz i got curious. i couldn’t find any scientific journals or anything..and i thought about what i posted, that was foolish, with every other false info floating around the web, i got caught up taking the easy road.. haha sorry.
guest
I’m not aging fast enough, actually.
I still look really young, although it may be more because of my stature than my face. But I’m not sure.
I wish I looked older.
guest
I’m 18, and people say I look 15. My mom looks 35 (really 50), and my gramma looks 65 (really 71). I have a lucky lineage of young agers, as we call them. I have perfect skin, not oily, not dry. I always try to take care of it, and when i dont, it reminds me to. I don’t have any age preventing things I do, I’ll just let my skin naturally age, like what my mom does. When it comes to a significant other, I look for them to be 2-4 years older. =) I don’t really care if they look younger then me at 40. He will be my husband, and that’s what matters. =D
guest
My nickname used to be shiny forehead haha. It’s good to read a post about my past insecurity which is actually better for me in the long run.
guest
Meh. I’ll worry about this when I’m 40.
guest
I hate to disagree with you, but in my case it’s the opposite. Not only that, but I’m four and a half years older than my husband! Even though I have gray hair, it’s concealed really well thanks to Redken. My husband has gray hair that he doesn’t color, as well as creases in the forehead, crow’s feet, hair growing on his ears, and a pot belly, LOL! I also have two younger sisters; one three years younger and one five years younger; and they both also look older than me. They both have creased foreheads, crow’s feet, dark circles under the eyes, and other fine facial lines. I only have a few very faint lines under my eyes that are hardly noticeable.
Here’s my theory: My one sister used to be a sun-worshipper, she’d lay out in the sun all the time. She has always drank coffee, tea, and sodas. My other sister stayed out of the sun, but she always worries and never gets enough sleep. She doesn’t drink coffee or tea, but will drink sodas. I try to stay out of the sun, I don’t drink coffee or tea, and will very seldom drink soda and only non-caffinated ones at that. I usually only drink bottled water 2-5 one pint bottles a day. Now my sisters and I are all half caucasion and half Japanese. I figure my sisters must have inherited their skin from my dad and I got my mom’s Japanese or Asian skin. This along with our lifestyle and diets probably affected how well we aged, wouldn’t you agree?
guest
whelp, that kinda sucks….I’d rather my woman look good and I look like shit, honestly, but after I shave I always get carded and they say I look like I’m 18 or something, and I’m like friggin’ 26.
guest
I look old for my age now, but I know that once I hit my 30′s, I’ll start looking young. I know this because I get my skin from my mom, and people gawk when she tells them that she’s a grandmother.
guest
Yeah, I have oily skin yuck. But like I control it and hardly break out because I use the right products. My dermatologist said one day I will be thankful for it! So, the oily skin thing is very true!
guest
Always huh? My wife is 10 years older then me, and doesn’t look anything close to it.
…but she’s Asian. No surprise there.

I personally, think it has more to do with the different types of lives females tend to lead compared to males. Women tend to be caretakers and don’t have the time to pay that much attention to their upkeep or appearance as they age but most males start families later and some tend not have to have those responsibilities.

wow, finally a plus side to oily skin. i am set for life.

Never thought about it that way. But I agree.

So you’re saying my oily skin is a blessing in disguise? I think I’ll argue, lol. But interestingly enough, I’ve been pegged as young as 15 before! That’s a full 8 years off, lol. I’m going to be carded into perpetuity… gah!
guest
@bby_x_tEaRz@xanga - my skin is like that too! it’s awful, my face always manages to look uber greasy in photos. i carry blotting paper with me. that should take away teh oil and not be harmful to the skin, right?
guest
My finace is younger than me, but he looks a couple years older. I still get carded for movies, but he never does.
guest
I have good genes. My husband is 8 years younger than me but most people think he’s older than me. It might be because of his white beard. (I’m 53, he’s 45)

1. Does it bother you that women age more quickly than men? No, because I see aging as a natural occurrence in life. It is something that is inevitable. I do notice that when men don’t take care of themselves holistically, they tend to look older than their age. I agree with you that women should take better care of their skin if they haven’t already, but so should men. It took me a while to persuade my brothers to wear sunscreen. They were always out in the sun.
2. Do you think
you’ll take this into account when picking a significant other? No, because there are more important attributes in evaluating a potential partner.
3. How do
you prevent aging quickly? People try a lot of things to prevent aging that aren’t natural.
I think it is important to drink plenty of water, keep physically active, get needed rest, eat healthy, and pay attention to signs of change with your body and mind (e.g. stress, fatigue, anxiety, allergies, etc).

It does bother me that women age faster than men. My fiance is 26 & I’m only 20 but everyone thinks I’m like his age. But I think it’s because I have a shapely, curvy body & a huge booty not because of my face. I don’t like using sunscreen (I know, I know) cuz I have oily skin but I’m going to start investing in some CoQ10 & all that good stuff, I’m starting to get some lines here & there
but I’m trying to stay away from that Botox poison!
guest
My mum is 3 years older than my dad… (my mum has oily skin) and she looks 10 years younger than my dad. I hope I have my Mum’s genes:)
guest
I don’t know about this. It doesn’t seem that way for my family. We age gracefully. It doesn’t bother me though.
guest
I’m glad I’m half asian… hahaha.
guest
Haha actually, I have found that to be opposite in my family. The men look much older than the women. Two ladies from our church were trying to decide how much older my dad was than my mom. They said he looks a LOT older. One of them finally asked my mom. She started to say, “9…” The lady broke in and said, “Oh, 9 years. Okay.” And Mom said, “No, 9 days!” The lady was in shock! Lol.
guest
Wow, so it’s a plus to have oily skin!
guest
According to this picture, women turn into fucking magneto.

Wow, this is such a great post. Absolutely excellent!

I think sometimes choosing an older man for a partner is also a great idea b/c they seem less likely to be immature…
And I am one of those people with oily skin. Thank you! You made me feel so much more at ease with my oily skin.
And yes it’s true, moistures are key! I have oily skin and I still apply moisturizer everyday. I just try to buy beauty products with no oil in them, it’ll make the situation worse. lol lol
: )
Thanks 4 all the useful info!

I don’t know I look young for my age no matter what.

This explains a lot more…. Hopefully I’ll look mid-20ish when I’m 30.

I’m hoping I wont have this problem for two reasons.
1. I look a lot younger than I really am so I’m hoping that will stay with me
and
2. My current bf is 13 years older than me so I’ll always look younger compared to him

OILY SKIN IS INDEED CLEVER!!!!!!

I thought it had to do with the saying that “men look more defined with age” *shrugs*
guest
My mom has gotten that before: ”Is that your son’? The thing is, she’s 50 and no one believes that she is, people usually guess her age to be about 40. Someone even thought my dad was my boyfriend, and my mom was his mom. =_=…That was weird.
But this was a highly informative post, its great how you put some much scientific knowledge behind the reasons we have those skin conditions.
guest
It bothers me a little that women age quicker than men.. I mean, I’m already a year older than my boyfriend.
and due to his ethnicity, he doesn’t even look his age right now. Lucky for me, I look really young too though..
and I have slightly oily skin, so I guess I’ll just try to take good care of it so I don’t age!
guest
As an man with oily skin (as are my female relatives) I can confirm this claim. My mother, sister and cousins look *much* younger than their surrounding friends and spouses of similar age. I certainly look younger than my male coworkers who are my age.
My only issue I have is scaring away the young girls *after* they realize how old I am!
guest
Who cares about how old you look when choosing a “mate”?
You should be looking at the person’s soul to see if they are good for you. PERSONALITY!!!!

“hence why they are also so sexily hairy in many areas”
Ewwww! I find there’s nothing worse than a very hairy man.
But yay my skin will be all yummy when I’m older! My mum is almost 60 and has a very limited number of wrinkles though, so I should’ve guessed this already….
guest
Sorry, my husband is gonna look older than me. I have oily skin, even more so than my bo.
guest
I would rather have wrinkles than acne.
And I dislike body hair on men.
guest
thats interesing. i have oily skin which I used to dislike but now i am 30 and look a lot younger I like it. Also I have thick skin which looked a bit “manly” when i was a school girl but your skin does thin a bit as you age and every year I am looking younger. I do look five years younger than my SO even though I am older but I put that down to being black which means the sun doesnt age me as fast as him- he is a pale skinned redhead.
I dont know if your post is totally accurate especially with young couples but I have noticed that in couples in their 40′s and 50′s the woman tends to look like the mans mother or older sister even if she is younger!
I just thought I had been brainwashed by Hollywood to imagine that the wife would look a certain way, now I am not so sure. Maybe there is truth in what you are saying!
guest
Not the case for my hubby and I… most people peg him to be anywhere between 5 and 10 years older than he is… Me, most think I am 10-15 years younger and I am only 5 months younger then him… he just turned 40, I will be 40 in May…
guest
i dont necessarily agree with this blog. perhaps it is because we are so accustomed to seeing very old men with young spouses who are young enough to be their children. i think eveyone is much harder on females(appearance wise, at least) just a thought
i also have really oily skin and my boyfriend has really dry skin and he still looks much younger, so equating oily skin with being youthful does not hold true for most people
guest
I totally agree with this. My Dad is 58 years old, has oily skin so has just been washing his face with soap and water for his entire life and has very few wrinkels.
guest
i’d say ageing over acne since around age 15 to 30 is everyone’s blooming and most attractive years of their life. As humans with emotions, obviously we’re easily attracted by the prettier things in life. By 40, it doesn’t matter to the same extent because everyone knows a serious relationship (whether with opposite sex or just family and friends) can’t be judge by appearance.
guest
I think here you missed the most important reason why men age better than women. It’s not just oily skin. Many women have oily skin as well.
Men, on the other hand, have beards. Hair grows on their skin.
This hair acts as a natural exfoliant and keeps the skin’s regenerative abilities intact. As women age, their skin loses the ability to regenerate as well as it did before – not enough collagen etc.. They do not get new skin every four weeks, and sun spots and other damage is not healed fast enough.
Men on the other hand, are constantly stimulated to keep this ability intact by their beards. Which also helps combat the look of blemishes and to eliminate other sun damage which collectively attribute to the aged look.
guest
I heard eating healthy would help. Like more grain or nuts.
guest
LOL… I read the title of this blog (haven’t gotten to reading the text that accompanies it yet) and had to comment. I’ll be 32 in just a little less than 2 months. My last two boyfriends were 5 or 6 years YOUNGER than me and I looked THEIR age (or possibly younger). Sure, I take care of my skin for the most part but mainly I have genetics to thank. Neither of my parents look their ages and my mom did horrible things to her skin when she was younger (no sunscreen, etc…)!
Okay, so now you can hate me for being an exception. (BTW, I love playing the “Guess My Age” game at the carnival because the guy guessing always guesses at least 6 years younger than I am — easy prize!)
guest
Its true Women age more faster than Men.. no solution but at least we live longer… and we don’t lose our hair like Men do. The solution is get a man way older than you..

Well think about it, women go through child birth which is very stressful. Stress ages women, and menopause with the imbalance of the homeostasis. It’s not just oily skin, it’s stress and hormones that affects the skin. Oily skin will provide better cushion for your skin so that it does not crinkle as much, but it can cause blemishes. Just be sure to cleanse, lightly tone and moisturize your skin and SPF UVA/UVB, I cannot stress how important that is!!
guest
Women do not look older than men until at least menopause. Even then, most men in their fifties look older than their menopausal wives.
Put together a girl in her mid twenties and a guy in his mid twenties and the guy will look older. Same for late teens. Same for early thirties.
Wow, you just wasted 1 minute of my life…
guest
I tried to tell you once…..
guest
Damn, oops, I did not read that right….can I be forgiven? I was under the impression (with a quick read) that you were making refs. as to why an older man would like a younger woman….I beg your forgiveness and, I’ll just disappear for the night….

Awesome. I have oily skin myself as a female so hopefully this will keep me young looking! Haha

My security is that Men can still look good as they get older. Think of Sean Connery, and George Clooney.

I always thought my oily skin was really gross. Looks like i should give my skin a little credit. Great post. I usually get pegged about 4 years younger…hmm…

I have oily skin, but I’m also 19 and finding lots of white hairs on my head.. so while my face may age slower, my white hair will make me look old.

Hey that could explain why some people think I’m 15 even though I’m 19. LOL. or maybe it’s just the asian in me. This was very informative and I’m thankful since my skin’s pretty oily. Yay for aging delays! but Boo for acne -_-

Interesting, I have oily skin but, I don’t feel bless. There are so much problem my skin gives me. You would not believe how much money and time I spend on my face alone.

hi
you are so cute

It sure doesn’t bother me. But my advice is always: personalize your facial products. And of course, actually use them.
guest
WRONG…it’s simply because WE don’t frag out like y’all

women are just more self-concious

I’ll just age gracefully. Men cannot do that so HA ! ;P

I have combination skin though, so I guess I could go either way. People often think I’m any age from 15 – 17 and once I got to eat at a restaurant for free LMAO. I’m 21!
Asian people look eternally young. They are very lucky. I dated an asian guy who was 37 but I seriously thought he was like 22. I was jealous lol/ it’s my wish to look 22 at 37!

i do agree that most women do look older than men and it really suck b/c men are greedy. they usually date women 20 yrs younger than them and when they get too old men find themselves another one ..
thank God I look 4 yrs younger

I look younger than my boyfriend! Well I am younger than him but I look like a 16/17 year old when he looks 26 =)

I’ve always had random thoughts about how women tend to look older than men, despite being the same age. However, I never pinpointed skin as the reason, I just always found that women looked more mature than men..actually, even girls look more mature than boys. I have two cousins of the same age (8), but the girls acts and looks a lot more mature than my boy cousin.
Every once in a while, I would come up with nonsensical reasons as to why women tend to age quicker than men, and my reason is that of the two genders, women worry more than men. This gives them stress, and with stress comes wrinkles and whatnot. lol, that’s just my two cents lol.
I wish men aged quicker than women. Men are like wine, the older they are, the better. Unfortunately, women seems to have a limited prime time that comes early.

Does it bother you that women age more quickly than men? Do you think you’ll take this into account when picking a significant other? How do you prevent aging quickly?
I personally would not give a womans aging a single thought, and think that the majority of seriously genuine & sincere and in love blokes wouldn’t think that way either!
As for prevention, the diet of course is paramount to the way we will look in laters years, my diet has always been critical, I’ve been maintaining a more serious level of control of my eating habits for most of the last 30 years, it’s always been full of fish dishes, containing plenty of fish oils, is low in dairy & red meat, high in veg, cereal fibre and various fruits, more recently over the last couple of years or so I’ve been consuming tons of Goji berries, which for me is one of the all time Super Foods which I am often telling people about, and now in my 40′s I get everybody telling me I look 15 years younger than I really am, the reason being, is I actually do look 15 years younger, I need to lose about 10 pounds or so, but other than that, if you saw me you think that I was early to mid 30′s.
Of course, what you say about the naturally oily skin is absolutely right, and about what happens to women when they hit 30 & 40, it is a real problem for most women and gets increasingly dificult for a woman to keep her face in good order after 30+, and I think the only way to keep the wrinkles at bay for women is to constantly monitor what they eat on a daily basis, and to use all externally applied naturally produced products to help nourish the facial skin and protect it from all the various things that affect the face & eyes etc.
Also, for years I have been taking a constant regime of natural vitamins & minerals, and from experience, I can tell you that my taking of high dosage of Zinc and Co Enzime Q-10 and Lecithing, is by far the best thing that you can you for yourself, to maintain your looks, is to maintain a routine of taking any herbal extracts, vitamins, minerals, and anything basically that is very high in Antioxidants (or Anti Free Radicals) – that in conjunction with the assistance of a qualified beauty consultant~therapist on a regular basis, and a woman can considerably reduce the problem(s) of facial aging to a minimum.
I know there are some women who are not too keen on taking things orally on a regular basis, but from my own research~studies and long term experience, I know as fact that it is paramount for women to do this in order to reduce the effects of Free Radicals, which is another blog altogether, one I’m not willing to get into right now) but yes, it is essential that woment get into long term vitamin~mineral therapy if they really want to keep those radicals at bay, as it is those that DO cause the most cell damage and consequent bodilly deterioration, and so to tackle those early on in life will provide a significant reduction in aging.
One tip I can give the ladies right now is this, go buy Goji berries, sun dried, soak them and eat them with whatever takes your fancy, just eat them, and never stop eating them, then see the difference in your complexion. Do a google search on Goji berries and read all about them, I eat them ever night without fail, if you want to know how I prepare mine just let me know and I’ll type it up for you & send it via Xanga.

I am a final year varsity student and I have oily skin.
My kiddy face makes me 2~3 yrs younger than others, but what sucks is girls at my age think I am just a kid…
Anyway, the bright side is I’ll stay young longer. I feel pretty grateful that I still get my ID checked when entering casino and club

lol the face…
well the ber belly usually compensates haha

I think older men are sexy and I think it’s beautiful to see an old woman

Haha wow ok… I think genes have a lot to do with it too. I don’t have oily skin.. i’m 24 and people think I’m 17/18/19.. In their eyes I haven’t even hit 20 yet. I get this from my parents, in fact my whole family have been blessed with good skin *brag mode, sorry*
Oh and I have dry skin, we all do… Just be sure to rub your face upwards when you apply lotion and do the same with your neck..

wow interesting topic…though im 29 and with acne problem…at least i was compesate with the fact that i will look younger then my ladies or guys fren who were same age with me…hehe
guest
very sourceful. i always thougth i mastubated too much thats why i look like 20 when im actually 25.
i dont have acne problem though…. wait… i do behind my back.
and yeah… and girls my age dont dig me. they think i am not mature enough for them. not considerate at all. you judge a man maturity by the job that he keeps and the toys that he plays…. yeah go ahead… date old looking guys and their lil jimmy stop working at age of 30.

I wouldnt say women looks old, I would prefer to say they are mature~ both mentally, and physically
Im 22, and im still get my ID checked, people always confuse and thinks im 19

Gotta love my oil. I do adore it.
I can think of one major disadvantage that oily skins tend to have, however: bigger pores. Of course with modern cosmetic devices, that problem shouldn’t concern a lot of us, but those oil-absorbant papers, and other various means of limiting oil secretion can bring along large pores if not done correctly.

Wow! Very interesting research!
guest
idk…I kind of hate having oily skin…

Thank you for teaching me something I learned 5 years ago… no but seriousely this is interesting stuff. I’ve never though that much about it. Is it really that seriouse for you girls? I mean I can understand if you have a few ugly scars but…ah never mind. thanks for the post its very interesting and educational.

wow! thats so cool i never knew that!

I’ll be 37 in Sept. Ppl think I am 23-25 years old & my kids are my siblings. Hubby is like this too, & I do fight acne.

i was a little taken aback when someone told me that i look 28 when i’m only turning 19 this year?
guest
I tend to disagree due to the fact that I appear always younger than most men and women who are younger than me. I take great pride in my appearance both in and out so that may be the reason. I will be 31 yrs old this year. It also helps that I’m so fucking hot.
guest
hmm. i think it works both ways. some men or women age faster than the other. Maybe having oily skin prevents you from aging. I am not even sure about my skin type. anyhow. could genetics or being asian prevent the anti-asian. ’cause i have not age a bit since hs graduate, just taller. there are so many possiblities…
guest
i’m in my 20′s but ppl still see me as in the teens b/c i’m short and i look baby-ish…i wished that i’d look older only …for the time being….just b/c of my looks, ppl regard me as immature no matter what i do….even those who are younger than me think they are older than me hahha

I’m 25 going on 26 and I get mistaken for 16, 17 sometimes even 15.
It’s a hassle when I needed to go buy alcohol.
Even when I first went to my new GP, he couldn’t believe I was 25. He thought I was 17.
Not that matters, ’cause it runs in my family- my mum’s almost 50 and looks 35, my dad’s 61 and looks 50.
So it’s all good.

Or it could be that we are constantly putting loads of goop on our faces instead of letting our skin breathe. Men don’t wear make up. Less chemicals, slower aging.

No matter what, the care of your skin is very important being that it is the largest organ of our bodies, so you can imagine I am not just referring to our faces. If you want to appear vibrant and healthy it does take a certain amount of care and feeding to promote such an outcome. I too am lucky in that I have the genes of a family with young looking skin but I never take it for granted. I know in order to retain my youthful skin I have to work at it day and night religously. I have the good fortune of a dermatologist and a monthly ritual of seeing a someone to give me a facial with the proper peels per season and recommended therapies.
Also, not to be forgotten. Our diet and excersize prg. is very important not only to our overall health but also to our sweat glands which promotes oxygen to our overall skin and body health! SO LOVELY!! Look it up ladies.
By the way, it helps to marry someone 10 years plus! I married a man 15 years older though not because I was worried about how I would look in comparison to him as he aged. He just happened to be wonderful and brilliant at everything! He makes me feel happy, young and loved! HUGE!! Some of you already know that feeling! YEA!!
With respect and kindness to all of you,
Tess

i don’t think this is necessarily true…it depends and differs person to person…people always think i’m younger than i really am and mostly younger men are the ones attracted to me, the older men think i might be too young for them…my boyfriend is younger than me but he looks 10 years older…they tend to mistake me for being 19 or 20…when in fact i am 29…i must be one of the lucky ones…and yes i have very clear skin, which i think is oilier than normal, but now i’m thankful for it.

Everything that you wrote in your blog is exaactly how it is in real life . I married twice my first husband was 9 yrs older than me and i had my first daughter i matched him and didnt look too young . Now that ive married again , my husband is a few months younger than me and he has what you stated oily skin and amzingly his father who is 20 yrs older than his mom still looks young becuz in thier family they all have oily n thick fresh skin as opposed to mine !! i get very distressed becz now after the birth of my son i feel my skin has aged overnight and i dont know what to do . Im Asian – i.e Pakistani by birth and yes in our society and culture women do prefer marrying older men :S .. I love my husband but yes im stuck with this whole age factor thingy

@UnVolume@xanga - You can have all the hair in the world, you’d still be ugly, have fun with that.
