I used to have long hair. About a year ago, I decided I needed a change and cut it short. Not extremely short — right at my shoulders. I get it trimmed about every 6 weeks and I feel like I’m just cutting off the hair that has grown.
Now, I want long hair…. like midway down my back. I miss it, and I feel like I’m going to be stuck at the length I have now forever. Is there anything to make my hair grow faster and make it shinier? I’m itching for long, shiny hair. Is there any way to achieve these results besides just waiting for it to grow out?
Have any of you ever wanted extremely long hair? Did any products that you’ve tried work well?

You can try products that minimize hair breakage. (I am laughing at all the hair products advertized on this blog, especially the mixed chicks). Also products that minimize the damage from heat treatments, and daily styling treatments. I used to love, love, love Phyto products (I still do), but I recieved a sample of Ojon hair products and I love them even more so I am switiching. My absolute favorite conditioner is Terax Crema. It even helped my mom’s hair that was falling out.

Stop trimming it so much.
There’s no way to make your hair grow faster.
My own hair is long, past the middle of my back.
I’ve gotten into a habit the past couple years of growing it long, then chopping it off and donating it, then growing it out again, chopping it off, etc.
I know they say you’re supposed to trim your hair that much, but that simply doesn’t work if you are trying to grow it out.

If you take vitamins and use hair products (good hair products!) that minimize breakage, it won’t necessarily make it grow faster, but it will be healthier and you shouldn’t have to get it trimmed as often, since trimming just gets rid of dead ends.

So funny you posted this blog, I googled all sorts of stuff the other day on “how to make hair grow faster” lol I too needed a change last summer, and cut it short. My hair use to be down the middle of my back. My hair looks good short but I miss the length, so I too am trying to grow out my hair. It is good to keep it trimmed every 6 weeks like you’re already doing, this gets rid of the split ends that can cause your hair to not grow as fast. When i looked online, the only i really found that could help is basically to not wash your hair everyday, use products to help breakage, take vitamins (a multi-vitamin will work) and to maintain a healthy lifestyle — exercising (esp cardio), eating healthy. Thats what i read online anyways.

Echoing what a lot of folks have already said– You can’t make your hair grow faster, but you can improve its condition so that you don’t have to trim it as often.
How often do you wash your hair? I used to wash mine every day and I forced myself to go every other day. The condition of my hair has improved dramatically since. My hairstylist insists that we’re not supposed to wash our hair that often. It strips the hair of its natural oils. Not to mention all the other stuff we do– blowdrying, ironing, etc.– that cause damage. In addition, she recommends finding shampoos without sulfates in them. Sulfates, which cause the bubbles when we lather but are ultimately unnecessary, dry out our hair.

My friend uses Beautiful Lengths by Pantene Pro V. She loves it.

I recently cut my hair and i hate it. I haven’t really used any products, but I use super-gro on my daughter’s hair which helped it grow. the only thing that worked for me was my pregnancies lol. hair and nail growth, clear face…if weight gain and the creation of an infant wasn’t involved i’d think i’d get preg. a whole lot more! JK JK JK
p.s.- i heard “mixed chicks” does great things for hair and dr.miracle

@UGA_Apollo@xanga - That’s really interesting!

You could always try getting some extensions for the time being, while you wait for your hair to grow back. I got my hair cut not too long ago and I never cutted it this short before, and I miss my long hair as well. I am just waiting and waiting for it to grow back out. Don’t worry, hair will always grow so soon enough, you will have your long and pretty hair back
haha thats what I always tell myself when I want back my long hair!

@UGA_Apollo@xanga - wow. gross but wow.

Have you tried Mane & Tail shampoo? http://www.manentail.com/products/personal/hair_list.asp

midway down your back is very long already o__o..

always tie your hair tightly….it works…and use good products that don’t make you feel your hair is dry….
guest
and i don’t think extension is a good idea…cuz it will only damage your hair tip after you take them off…

I’m so glad you posted this – cos I’m in the same predicament. I guess the answer really is just to give it time. I once had a hairdresser where no matter how short I cut it – my hair would grow back super fast. this last time I tried someone new – and now it’s taking forever (so maybe there’s something like green fingers for hairdressers?)

Such a coincidence that you wrote about this now, because just four days ago I trimmed a couple of inches off of my hair, and it was EXTREMELY long.
I had always aspired to have my hair at that length but, it took a LOT of time and patience to finally achieve the length.
The thing is…I also straighten my hair so, after years and years of heat damage, you can imagine how fried those last couple of inches were.
Thus, I just couldn’t resist chopping it all off, four days ago.
Now it feels really strange; those few inches really do make a difference and I’m wondering whether it’ll grow back properly again, or no.
If you ever do find a way to make your hair grow faster, let me know too! =]
Although, I actually have heard that the way you are regularly trimming your hair should work…stimulates hair-growth at least.

Girls in Brazil apply an ampoule with a humongous amount of concentrated vitamin A. They buy it at pet shops, it’s usually used on horses! I don’t know if it’s safe, because it’s definitely not FDA-approved, but they all report increased rate of hair growth and shiny bouncy hair. It got me curious, I gotta say.

trimming is good coz it’ll keep your hair healthy. massage your scalp whenever you’re at home just watching tv or before you go to bed and while you shampoo that stimulates hair growth.
as for the shine, rub a drop, literally a drop since you have short hair of baby oil. that’ll give you shine, but don’t rub it on your scalp.

I usually trim my hair by the moon. I know a lot of people say it’s superstition and a myth and all, but sweetie trust me…it works. If I trim my edges the day of a full moon (do it before that night) it’ll grow much thicker and I’m black so you know plus if you put any texturizers or relaxers or anything like that in your hair…STOP IT! I hope I kind of helped you if I didn’t fully help you.

You read my mind… I’m going through this right now (and have been for a few months). Try Phyto Vitamins. It has Biotin in it, which is a key ingredient to get hair and nails to grow. Or you can just buy Biotin by itself in grocery stores (it’s a lot cheaper).

I have been told that pre-natal vitamins help with the growth of hair and nails because of all the nutrients in them. I have no idea if it actually works though or if it’s just a myth.

I heard that if you cut it frequently at a certain length, it won’t grow much longer. My mom had really long hair but cut it shoulder length and now she can’t grow it longer. Eat your vitamins and don’t get frequent trims. That’s all the advice I can think of!

As others have said, there’s no magic potion to make your hair grow faster.
If you want it to grow to your mid-back, the key is to keep it healthy. Keep your split ends trimmed (make sure your stylist knows it isn’t a cut but a trim!) and follow a healthy hair regimen. The last thing you want is to have the length you want but it’s a frizzy, damaged mess!

i have the same problem right now. i used to take biotin, but then, taht made me break out.. so yeah.. i stopped >< but it did help my hair grow long. grew two cm in two weeks
you can try hair and nail supplements too.
but im planning to cut it short. so im not taking anything

I want longer hair too
but i dont get my hair cut often and it just seems to not grow at all.

Garnier Length and Strength shampoo and conditioner. It helps keep your hair healthy so it doesn’t break as easily, thus giving the appearance of faster growing hair. Other shampoos are made for certain types of hair like for curly hair, or for hair that needs more body, but this is for everyone.
I’m also trying to grow out my hair, and I’ve recently been letting it air dry whenever possible. Or at least don’t wash it every day if you can help it. It helps, I promise.

I believe that the best way to grow hair longer and even faster is to lengthen the Anagen (growing) stage. It’s my understanding that when the hair is in the Anagen stage, it is growing and then after that it’s either Resting or Shedding. By keeping you hair in the Anagen stage as long as possible, I would think that it would shorten the other stages. Any thoughts? Now my question is how do we lengthen our Anagen stages (other than taking MSM). Thanks!

@laura2011 - Forget Patience! Everytime I hear or read that phrase my blood boils. Easy for someone who already has long hair to tell others to have patience. I’ve been trying to grow my hair for many years now. How much “patience” do I need? Forget that. I want Action.
