I know we are all getting tired of all dark colors, leggings, boots and coats. So here is what’s coming up for this spring!
Asymmetrical Dresses & Blouses
Almost every designer had some version of this, usually in the form of a flowy dress but often as a top or fitted dress.

White Dress
Though definitely not replacing the ‘Little Black Dress’, the White Dress is a huge trend for this Spring. Instead of the simplicity and versatility of the LBD though, the White Dress is a more glamorous pick in ruffles, maxi-lengths and sheer fabrics. Think Goddess!

High-Waist Skirts, Pants, & Shorts
The cinched waist was a big trend in general, but the main way it was achieved was with high-waist bottoms. Simple lines help achieve this look and create a very feminine silhouette.

Pantsuits & Shortsuits
We haven’t really seen these since the late 80’s, but here they are again and much more stylish this time! Keep it simple and a tad draped and you’re good.

See-through, Sheer Fabrics
Seen in everything from evening gowns to wear-to-work blouses, see-through material is a big trend for this Spring. On the runway, these pieces were not made conservative with layers or undergarments. For the real world though, a slip or light tank would be more appropriate.

Harem Pants
Harem Pants were surprisingly prevalent on the runways last week. Paired with belts, chunky heels, and loose tops makes them a little more conceivable.

Bohemian Style (Hippie Chic)
Bohemian Style was a big hit with a few designers. Many designers had this look going in at least one of their styles. Think peasant blouses, flowery prints, loose-fitting, etc. The best way to pull this off this Spring is to pair a bohemian styled piece with something a bit more conservative like a beige skirt or vest.

Color
Color is a huge consideration for pieces this Spring. So much so that it should be listed as a trend in and of itself. Bright colors were seen at Fashion Week including lemon yellows, neon oranges, chartreuse, fuschia and bright blues. Black and white are a staple and were present as well as neutrals such as tans and grays. Muted brights such as mint-green and coral are also big.

Ruffles & Bows
Ruffles and bows dressed up simple silhouettes in the Spring 2009 Collections. Look for bows at the shoulders and hips and ruffles at hemlines.

Runway fashion doesn’t always exactly translate into retail fashion.
Most of those are absolutely hideous, especially if they’re to be worn on the street.

you dont need to clone exactly what you see on the runway. its just using elements and the main idea and re-working them into an everyday wardrobe, use what you see as a suggestion as to what you are going to see alot of in stores this spring.

@methodElevated@xanga - Yes exactly. I was looking at fashion magazines last night and was like where in the heck would I or could I wear that stuff? Maybe to prom, a ball or Hollywood, but since I am not going to any of those places anytime soon I am hoping I can figure a way to translate the styles into actual practical cute/trendy dress. Thanks for keeping us posted on the trend though lovelyish sometimes out here on the farm I I get a little behind in times.

@methodElevated@xanga - i dont really agree with you completely, shortsuits that are casual will b so cute to wear, imagine them the right way and youll know how fashionable you can look.
yeah some are totally out of line though

@aalluu@xanga - Shortsuits evoke images of ugly overalls, trashy ghetto-wear or cut-off prison jumpsuits, so I have a hard time imagining them as cute.

@methodElevated@xanga - well se thats the whole point, the same way as i cannot imagine v necked dresses as cute, but that dusnt mean they arent in fashion and people dont wear them off the ramp.wont say all of the ramp clothes are made to be worn but yeah, some are pretty cute IF you know how to dress urself in them.
the high waisted shorts can be worn instead of normal ones with pantyhose if you wanna be chick.but the print theyve shown isnt cute at all.its just the way you turn fashion to suit ur style

the ruffles and bows are cute :}

I like asymmetrical dresses and ruffles (within reason)…no maxi dresses though! They look odd, unless you’re tall enough. I’m afraid I just dislike the high-waisted thing though. I like my waistlines where they are, thanks very much –an inch or two below the navel! There are days when I think I’m a 50 yr old in a 20 yr old body, haha.
It’s fun to look at the new trends, even if I don’t really follow most of them. Good post!

I love ruffles and bows! But I’m not going to even look for runway fashion inspired clothes. I’m not really into trends because they define the designer labels but not me.

@aalluu@xanga - Yeah, that print looks almost identical to the wallpaper that was in my family’s kitchen back in the 80s. It’s terrible.

i dont get the whole high waste thing…

I like the Bohemian style shown here but that’s about it.

The first one looks like a bedsheet.
I can definitely do that.

I live in the Midwest so it will probably be another two years before we start getting these styles. I don’t really care for the pant-suits or the harem pants. Seems too 80s, early 90s. I really like the sheer clothing, especially for layering.

I’m definitely loving chartreuse right now. I agree with the idea of colors being present in spring fashion. It’s an idea that you can take from the runway into everyday style.

Although, I like how the Harlem pants look, I won’t be rocking it.

ruffles and bow is the only cute dress I would wear
But the material/ style is a bit like lingerie – plus a bit of elegance

color, ruffles, and the asymmetrical dresses are something i’d wear. i’m dying to try the harem pants and anything high-waisted….idk if i’ll be daring enough to go through with it though

i think the bohemian / hippie chic trend is gettng a bit tired. i’m really digging the assymetrical tops and dresses trend though. i’m getting on that!
and as a general reply to a few of these comments: of course many of these looks seem unwearable and unrealistic for the average person. these particular pieces were not designed for you and i to wear on the street. however, any single one of these garments can (and probably WILL) be worn by socialites and celebutantes at any given event they attend. i certainly don’t buy versace gowns to wear to a cocktail party.
despite many of these looks being unwearable, the trends seen in the shows during fashion week will inspire the clothes that so many of us will buy this summer. along the lines of what hahaha said, you can probably walk into forever 21 or H&M and the racks will be consumed with more wearable versions of what was on the runway. do you really think assymetrical blouses, white flouncy dresses, and ruffles are terribly unrealistic?

yep, i am running out to the store to buy a see-through dress right now… (note sarcasm.)
i do like ruffles and bows though.

I love asymmetrical designs & brightly colored bohemian styles. I’m always a little behind the times (like with the bohemian), but I still enjoy my style.
guest
I actually like the white dress.
guest
I really don’t like any of those clothes. :/
guest
I really didn’t see much that excited me. The bohemian and hippie chic styles are kind of cool but the headband needs to go away. I love ruffles and lots of color. Let’s just hope that these pictures weren’t very good examples of what’s in store.
guest
i like the asymmetrical tops but i can’t really wear them due to ugly man shoulders. white dresses are cute too
guest
i’ve already seen such styles… of course, watered-down a bit.
iiiii like it. nice spring colours

Ruffles and bows. <3

bleh, I see nothing new, fresh, or orginal. did we not learn anything from the first time people wore those harem pants in the mid to late 80′s? cues MC Hammer’s Can’t Touch This. I do like the Member’s Only like jacket paired with the harem pants.
guest
@methodElevated@xanga - I agree!
guest
i like the first and white dress and hippie one
and i really ilke the whole waist high shorts and a shirt but i cant pull it off. i think it looks better on taller ppl
guest
bohemian NEVER goes away, but i’m kind of glad cinched waists are back in, now that I’ve lost baby fat and actually am starting to have a waist.
guest
I like the waist-high shorts. I have a thinish waist, but huge hips, so I think this style would compliment my body nicely.
guest
i love the flowy dresses and high waisted shorts
guest
i absolutely love the white dress and the lavendar dress. so pretty, classy, sexy & cute!!
guest
i’m just going to stick to my jeans tshirts jackets and scarves this spring.
guest
i’m not likely to wear a pantsuit. i am likely to wear a color, perhaps even more than one.
