I think the last time I bought makeup was when I was in Rite Aid and things were on sale. I bought liquid eyeliners and mascaras about a few months ago. I haven’t gone makeup shopping since because I don’t really feel the need to since my makeup is pretty minimal and basic.Well actually, when I kind of think about it, it doesn’t sound that way.
I don’t usually go out of my way to like Sephora or MAC to buy my makeup because I don’t really care that much. But I think if I was to buy eyeshadow, I’d buy it from there because at least I’ll get to try it on and see if it fits me.
I use concealer from Covergirl. Then I put liquid eyeliner on the top lid and regular pencil liner on the bottom. After, I put on bronzer and usually blush. Oh yea… and lipstick. I only use a really cute pink lipstick that I got from Sephora. So, everything is pretty basic and lasts me a really long time.
On the nights that I go out, all I do is put on darker eye makeup and voila! Yea, I’m really boring. I have a few kits of eyeshadow, so I’m set. They’re not the best but I don’t feel like going out of my way to get any makeup at the moment.
How often do you shop for makeup? Is it an important part of your “to buy” list?

i adore sephora, but i only really buy things i’ll use daily. i very rarely buy something like…bright blue eyeliner or blue mascara haha. i’ll get something fun once in a while if i have a lot of cash to burn but for the most part i just buy the basics and only get more if i run out.

I’m the same way – I won’t go to a specialty place like Sephora to get make-up because I feel out-of-place. Everyone there seems too pretentious or just more into make-up than I am. My criteria for makeup is that it does not break my skin out, and that it blends into my skin well. I only wear concealer, blush, eyeliner, and mascara, never foundation or eyeshadow or anything like that because I feel awkward in it., and I get it from Target or the drug store.(Now, skin creams and lotions I am more into, because I love healthy skin on its own so I’ll splurge on skin creams. If I had flawless skin, I would wear nothing!
) The most I would do, even for going out, is maybe adding some lip gloss and a little white eyeshadow in the corners of my eyes to open them up more. I think it’s best not to obsess over makeup, but if that is your thing then go for it!

If I’m buying for myself I usually stick to the basics such as eyeliner, mascara, gloss and foundation… but when my mom buys me makeup she buys me all the nice eyeshadows and other funky makeup so I like to think I have a great range of makeup

I use Mirabella Mineral Powders. Everyone I use them on has a real luminsecent airbrush look afterwards. It’s quick and easy too. My fave blush was reccently discountinued from Jane:( I spent an hour at Sephora trying to find a replacement but everything just looked real…”whorish” on me. Now I just use the Mirabella mineral blush. I really like it. I use Dior Blackout Mascara but sometimes I settle on the old pink and green maybelline. Lipglosses are the only thing I’d be willing to try from any brand. For the most part though I perfer higher quality stuff. The pigmentation in the eye shadow is better and they tend to last longer. I’ve found that Bobbi Browns makeup is very long lasting. MAC has the most fun colors though.

concealer, revlon eyeliner and softlips chapstick.
if i want to feel pretty, i have a glitter pencil.

I like to go to Sephora just to try on stuff, but other than that I don’t usually buy makeup often. I just bought a new blush on Christmas eve for myself since my blush was done. I wear foundation, bronzer, and blush. But I lightly put it on. Sometimes I wear eyeliner and/or mascara, but sometimes I’m too lazy. Sometimes I wear brown eyeshadows, but most of the time I don’t.

@XfantomcatX@xanga - i totally agree with some places being pretentious!

I usually use Boots Tinted Moisturizer from Target, Benefit’s concealer and mascara, Loreal’s lip products, and Victoria’s Secret eyeliner. I go to Sephora.com just to browse.

I agree with you. Most of my stuff are from CVS or Walgreen sales, lol. And they go on sale much more often then I need to buy, so that’s a plus. Overall, I really don’t wear much, if any, and on night outs I just put on same nice eyeshadow that I steal from my sister

Haha, If I had the money, I’d so shop at Sephora. They have really good quality stuff there! But I really don’t feel like paying 20 dollars for mascara, so I just go to CVS to get most of my makeup. I use CoverGirl true blend minerals powder, pink and green maybelline mascara, revlon concealer and very light pink lip gloss from Lip Smackers.

i bought nars makeup from sephora the other day. i love the blush/bronzer duo, but the foundation was CRAP. i prefer my $10 neutrogena foundation, over the $40 nars. i’m definitely returning it.

I don’t buy makeup that often. And of the products that I already have, I usually only use about a quarter of them semi-regularly.

I buy makeup maybe once every two to three months or so. I love Sephora! But I don’t buy a lot from there, just Urban Decay’s Primer Potion, and maybe some random things like eyeshadow and eyeliners, lol. I usually buy foundation, blush, concealer, and illuminizer from CVS, haha.

I buy makeup sporadically. Whenever I really feel the need I’ll buy eyeshadow or mascara (mostly mascara because thats something I pretty much use everyday even with out eyeshadow) I don’t buy the expensive makeup because how I see it… its all the same.

I love makeup. I only buy from Sephora or Ulta. This Christmas I went makeup crazy and bought a whole bunch. I don’t use makeup everyday, but once in awhile I love to put on everything except for foundation cuz it makes me feel like its caked on. I have a 3 year old daughter and so I don’t have much time for makeup and if or when I do…i love to dress up..i love all kinds of colors and aren’t afraid to use them. One day I’m hoping to become a makeup artist.

What a fun question.
Hm.. I own just about every product in every shade (I work as a makeup artist). I used to plan out monthly trips to the makeup store I wanted and spend anywhere between $200-$500 (AFTER discount). Now I just do quick pick up for refills on colors and products.

i need my fixed dose of MAC makeup. it lasts me a long time so i figure it’s a good splurge. the makeup is so good (when you use it correctly)…all you need is a little ….not as much as the MAC artists use. i can’t go back to cvs makeup..i feel like it’s more unhealthy for my skin.
guest
yeah, it’s usually on my “to buy” list. i usually go to department store makeup counters for it.

I buy some whenever I run out or when it seems to go bad.
I recently got some MAC products.. and I’m happy with it. It may be crowded place but now my makeup routine is cut down by at least 5-10 minutes. I knew it was good quality but I didn’t expect it to be that much. A little goes the long way so it will be on my list whenever I’m low on it.

I usually buy makeup every few months or less, when I’m running out of something or when I see something I wanna try. I like Sephora but their customer service sucks at some of their stores.
guest
i mostly use korres & urban decay makeup, but i’ll use MAC, smashbox or lancome too. i think i have a couple things from loreal & maybelline that caught my eye while i was getting toothpaste in the drugstore
i like sephora because i like testing out things before i buy them. the smells of a lot of makeup can be nasty or too strong and then i can’t use them (i’ve had to throw away lipsticks and blushes and foundations because of the odor)

buying new make up is important because like food, make up “expires.”
here’s some information i found on when to trash make up:
-Most powders, concealers and lip balms are
anhydrous (they don’t contain water), so they can last for a couple of years, says Dr. Pugliese.
-Cleansers and moisturizers often contain fatty acids, which can turn rancid quickly. Toss after six months.
-Multiuse products such as 3-in-1 sticks and creams can spread germs from lips to eyes and cheeks. Wipe the surface before switching areas, and discard or replace after six months.
-Pencils can last several years unless you wet the tip with saliva or water. To be safe, sharpen before each use.
-Mascara should be tossed after three months without fail. The tube is a breeding ground for bacteria,” says Dr. Pugliese.
-Foundations can last up to a year if you keep your fingers away from the bottle. Instead, use a sponge to apply.
-Store cosmetics in a cool, dry place outside the bathroom to extend their shelf life.

I love make-up! I only shop at Sephora, Chanel or Origins. I have several friends who work at make-up counters/Sephora/ spas. They’ve kind of turned me into a make-up snob, haha.
I do have really sensitive skin though, so I have to be very particular about the
ingredients in the products I use. I don’t really shop for make- up
very often though… just when I run out of something.

probably 2-3 times a year. foundation, blush, mascara are what i use the most. so usually i go shop for makeup when they are done.

Dior’s Blackout Mascara and MakeUp Forever foundations are must buys =)

You are one smart cookie
I spend piles of dollars on makeup only to throw it away when I have had it for awhile. Drugstore is good for the majority of things. I need certain special items for special problems, but I seriously regret all of the money I have spent in the past on makeup.
High end is not any better than drugstore. I know a lot of people won’t agree, but i have tired it all and am tired of spending money on advertising dollars and packaging.

I hardly buy makeup – once a year maybe?

i use rimmel concealer + eyeliner pencil, max factor mascara and missha pearl eye shimmer + liquid liner for my everyday sorta thing. i try not to wear too much on ‘normal’ days because then it looks weird when you have like no make up lol.
simple is besttt

I love to shop, and I love finding bargains. So I browse the makeup aisles when I get the chance looking for items that I’m interested in trying at ridiculously low prices. I especially like trying different eyeshadows and eyeliners. I bought a Rimmel eyeliner pencil yesterday for practically nothing, and I’m going to try it this morning.

Love, Love, Love, Ja’Dore make-up. I can’t get enough of them.
Don’t get me wrong though, but I don’t shop for too much make-up. I get stuff all over the place, but mainly I go to the drugstores to see what they have for sale. CVS, Rite Aid when they have the buy one get one for 50% off. Buy one get the second one FREE. Things like that. I love make-up from Target, too. They have a wide selection, and trust me I get stuck in Target cause of the make-up selection that they have! Whew!

I use Minerelles from the makeup line of Shaklee. They use all natural, minerals, and has been tested to work fabulously! The liquid make up does not make me break out and the coverage is the best I have ever had! I tell people I have skin problems [acne], and they always say ‘yea right!’ Also, if I ever get mascara flakes in my eye [which is really rare now] it has never stung like maybelline or revlon. It’s just a great line of products… if you want to look at it, I have a website- http://www.shaklee.net/laurenwatson that features the make up line and more
