Can someone please tell me why people are obsessed with the mole?
When I mean mole, I don’t mean tiny ones appear after hours of sun-basking; I consider those “freckles.” When I mean mole, I mean something huge and could exist as its own entity. It’s usually very dark and 3-dimensional.
Blatantly noticeable moles, to be frank, annoy me. I understand it’s superficial of me but whenever I spy a person with big moles or worse – moles that border between beauty mark and wart – I wonder why the individual hasn’t paid a visit to a dermatologist.
I then turn on the telly or flip open a mag and page after page I always stumble upon a celebrity who has refused to part with his/her mole. When asked about it, they claim they love it and it makes them feel unique. Moreover, a good number of actors, singers and models have been able to embrace their mole and build memorable careers upon the glory of their distinguishable feature.
Here are some random examples of well-known celebs who sport trademark moles with pride:
I am not saying these stars are lacking in charm, looks or talent. In fact, in a few cases the moles add a little spice – that extra oomph, if you will. What I am saying is that huge moles bother me a tad. Perhaps I’m obsessed with symmetry and the mole takes away from that?
I do admit that for some reason the mole works better on women (sorry, De Niro). Eva Mendes’ mole is CLEARLY far sexier than Rod Stewart’s. I wonder how many people out there share similar sentiments with me.
What’s your opinion on moles? Would you remove yours if you have/had one?

I have 3 very obvious moles on my face. The bad thing about moles is that as you get older they keep growing, along with pregnancy, age, all of it…they grow! I figure eventually I will have to get mine removed….can’t have brown spaghetti noodles dangling! However, so far they work for me…allthough my papa used to always try to wipe the “chocolate” off my face.
guest
I have two moles on my back, but they’re just like big freckles, to be honest. And they’re on my back. So nobody can really see them and they’re not like, 3D, so I just leave them alone, hahaha
guest
I dont think moles or facial flaws should be considered a “do or a dont”. Its just a “well I was born with this thing on my face lets make the most of it.”
I think they are ugly, personally, and they really bug me. Well, facial moles do anyway. Anywhere else, I dont care.
guest
I’ve never heard of moles being stylish before.
I don’t have any moles, just some freckles.
If I had them, I’d get them removed.

I had a mole on the back of my neck. Even though it wasn’t noticeable my mom took me to the dermatologist to get it checked out, the old man didnt look at it for two sconds before he decided he was going to cut it off. Not freeze, CUT it off. So he laid me on the table, gave me a shot that made me all numb and loopy then went right along CUTTING this thing off my neck. It was probably one of the worst experinces ever haa because of the way he just like man-handled me. I don’t know i would’nt go through that again just for asthetic purposes.

I have one by one of my eyebrows that I hate and I’ve been thinking recently of getting rid of it. But I also have one at one of the corners of my lips and I like that one, it is similar to C Crawfords but much lighter in color.
guest
marilyn monroe’s mole was actually drawn on… it was very tiny and many people who worked with her stated that they couldnt even see it but she did so she would make it darker and it would often move if you watched her movies or seen her photos
cindy crawford’s mole made her famous but it suits her as for enrique inglesias (not sure how to spell it and too lazy to look it up) is a bit too big for me…
i met a really good looking guy before but his mole turned me off completely it was all i could look at (please his personality wasnt that great either…stuck up and arrogant)
i guess it depeneds on the size and if it has hair.. (ugh..) for some it fits for others its a bit nasty
guest
i had one on my eyebrow. i hated it so much i cut it off.
now i have a scar there. its a great story.
guest
i think moles are ugly. Some of them could also be skin cancer. I had a couple of moles on my legs, arms, and chest. they all turned out to be cancerous but one of them was 4th stage melanoma. moles are ugly but the scars they can leave are even worse.
guest
there is an upside of moles…people with a lot of moles usually look about 10 years younger than their actual age. the medical community says it’s something about the growth factors in the skin of people with a lot of moles being different from normal, if i remember the study correctly.

The girls can pull off the brown little dot; the big ones aren’t attractively unique to me.

I have a couple moles but they aren’t huge in any way shape or form. I actually had haver really given the beauty aspect of them any thought until I read this. I don’t reallly think they detract from my looks.
guest
I love your blog and every topic! Thanks so much<3

I have no moles, but huge ones just scare me.
guest
I have a mole on my neck,up close to my jaw line. It’s about a half inch in diameter BUT! it is flat and has no hairs. The second it starts growing hair… it is going bye bye!
guest
marilyn’s is drawn on

and it wasnt a mole. it was a beauty mark

Sarah Jessica Parker’s mole looks like a pimple in that photo.
I think the small, black dotted moles are cute. I personally thought it was always cute to have it in the region between the nose and upper lip.
But that’s just me.
I have a few baby moles on my face, but I wouldn’t remove them.

I’m of a kind of mole-y persuasion, so my feelings are kind of mixed. On the one hand, I don’t feel the need to have every single mole on my face eradicated–there’s one at the top of my right eyebrow that’s small and flesh-colored, and I don’t mind it a bit, and two others on my right cheek that are flat and not very noticeable. I mean, you can see them, but they’re not like, jumping out at people, LOL. One of them I do have to pluck occasionally, since it grows about 3 really wiry copper-colored hairs, but, that’s a story for another day!
I have had a few removed, however, from the back of my neck. I was forever scraping them with my hairbrush, and quite frankly, it hurt like a bitch every time. So I had them removed, and now just have two very subtle scars. I have a few more I’d like to have removed–two on my belly, and a few tiny little flesh-colored skin tags on my neck. But it’s certainly not something I’m obsessed with. When I get the opportunity, I’ll go for it. Until then, they can just stay put.
As for moles on other people, I guess it’s all a matter of degree. If we’re talking about some small ones, no problem. Sometimes they’re even cute (my sweetie has some that I think are adorable, actually). But if we’re talking about something that should have its own zip code, um…yeah, it’s time to see a doctor, LOL.

I have just that type of mole…the noticeable trademark mole..hahaha. I like it. I’m not getting it removed. Moles are known as “beauty marks.” (No I’m not saying I’m pretty or anything.) I’m just comfortable with the mole. It’s always been there. Why even think about it?

I have a mole above my left hip a little ways far from the bikini area… if only I was a model, now THAT is unique. lol
guest
I hate moles. Freckles can be cute, though.
guest
well it depends….Im Indian,a nd growing up, Ive seen a lot of indian women actually use a pencil to draw in a black mark somewhere on their face….its called a “beauty mark”. In India, its considered beauty…and I think in a way, it does add something..
guest
I think moles are as natural and beautiful as eyelashes and belly buttons. everyone is darling, and as long as they are comfortable with the things they have->awesome.
guest
i`m not a big fan of 3-d moles. i have mole on my face but it`s on the outer part of my eyebrow. most people don`t notice it and neither do i. it doesn`t make my face look asymmetrical at all so i guess i am lucky.
eva mendes’s mole is sexy. sometimes moles give character? to a face.

Enrique Iglesia got his removed.
If it looks fine, I don’t really care unless it’s really huge and has hair on it. I have a ton of beauty marks and a few freckles, but no moles.

Moles are very unattractive. If I had one that was visible on my face, I would get it removed as soon as I possibly could. For now, I just have freckles.

I’ll tell you why…
Jake Gyllenhaal
Sean Farris
Josh Hartnett
Enrique Iglesias
(The pictures don’t work but you get the picture…)
YUMMY! Having a mole adds, like, 20 sexy points.

@awokenfatality@xanga - Enrique got his removed because a doctor said it may be cancerous. Too bad because it was soooo sexy.
guest
LOL I have a thing with moles too. I have no problem with small unspottable ones(which I myself have plenty of) but can’t stand those in-your-face ones… I don’t know I just think most people would look better without moles.

When I was younger, I used to draw on fake moles because I thought it made me look ten times sexier.

No offense to Sarah Jessica Parker but I’ve always thought she was unnattractive. Anyone else agree with me? However, Marilyn Monroe, Eva Mendes, and Cindy Crawford are sporting FREAKING AWESOME moley moleys.

If I had a mole heck YES I’d keep it!!!

Enrique Iglesias’ mole has ALWAYS bothered me.
But other than that, most moles don’t really get on my nerves too much. I actually have a wee one on my face. Girls do seem to wear them better than men, though.
guest
marilyn’s “beauty mark” made her the sexy icon she was… there’s something about her mole that made her so attractive. i thought enrique took his mole out?
guest
I have about three flat moles on my face that are really tiny. I’ve had them for as long as I can remember. Because they’re flat, and so small I’d not even bother to have them removed. But I have a mole on my side that I hate. I want it removed so badly, but I have to wait until I have the money. Luckily it’s on my side and no one ever sees it unless I’m wearing a bathing suit or I’m naked(so only my boyfriend sees it regularly.) He doesn’t mind it, I don’t think he really notices, but I do.
My mom’s side of the family has moles galore, but it really only seems to be the older women. No one else has seemed to get that gene and I hope I never do because I’ll be getting them cut off all the time. A few are fine, but too many is just nasty looking. And I can’t stand it when they have hair growing out of them. That’s just….*shudders*
guest
@onetruelove - I don’t think she’s that attractive either. But it’s something more than that for me. I don’t really think she’s that great an actress and nearly everything she wears bothers me.
guest
Kinda gross….
guest
I have a small one above my eyebrow, one on my cheek and a few on my body, but the ones in my face are more like birth marks, they’re not big and thick. I have summer freckles too, but they look cute to me!
Eva mendes’ mole doesn’t look so bad by the way. It makes her face more interesting.
guest
@k_cakes@xanga - i agree, not a fan of 3D ones, but look how cindy crawford works hers!
i agree its a natural thing that add character. ha did i mention i
have some? i have a mole to the left of my mouth on my cheek, and now have a small one (more like a freckle) close to my right eye just above the lid in the corner. i used to hate them when younger, but now i love them!
if it makes you (the writer) feel better, i have symmetrical ones at the side of each shoulder on both arms…and currently have a small scar that simulates symmetry above my left ankle to match the mole i have above the right! hahah
guest
Robert DeNiro looks fine with a mole. It does kind of add character to his face, and kinda fits his personality…
But I think moles look bad if you’re up close and personal with someone. People on TV you can’t actually see the dimensions of it, or any hair?
I have some moles on my arms… it bothers me not really because they look bad, but they could become skin cancer if they get too much UV exposure and such. Bahh.
guest
i have a really small one on my face (im not sure if u can even see it in my pictures). my friends don’t really consider a mole because it’s so small. and mine is flat.. not 3d as u mentioned above lol.. definitely no hairs hhaha and here’s the thing, my mole looks like a tiny heart.. lol but i was born with it and now its just a part of me.
when i was younger, i HATED IT. i hated that fact that it was right in my middle of my face and i thought that people would think im ugly because of it, but i was 8 years old back then.. and now, i just learned to accept it as something that makes me unique.
guest
@SeitekiChibiNeko@xanga - really? that’s fascinating.
guest
LOL… Oh Mao, you stylish bastard, you.
guest
it adds flavor. id keep it if i had one.
guest
@jediwa72@xanga - LOL, brown spaghetti noodles, haha! That’s a gross, but funny image. And what a cute way to refer to your moles.
guest
I’d like to have mine removed. I have three on the right side of my neck that I don’t like much, and they’re punctuated by a skin tag. A tshirt will usually cover them. However, I don’t have them removed because I’m, frankly, terrified of the procedure and they don’t bother me that much.
guest
I never knew that moles were a style thing. Wow. In my opinion, out of all the celebrities who have them, Marilyn Monroe is the only one who makes it look absolutely gorgeous. But that’s because she’s gorgeous in general.
It doesn’t really matter to me whether a person has a mole or not. I won’t think they’re ugly simply because of that. However, I’ll admit that if I were to get a mole somewhere, I’d get it removed.
guest
I would never get mine removed ! I have one next to my left eye, and I think it’s pretty and distinguishes me. Even if I didn’t like it, I wouldn’t get it removed. That’s cosmetic surgery, and I’m not into that.
guest
You need to go work at a leper colony in Asia or Africa or somewhere; or, in a burn unit at any major hospital, and then ask yourself how you could have been so utterly and boorishly shallow in your spirit to worry about some stupid mole on someone else’s face and then insanely proceed to write a blog about it.
Peace~

I like moles. I don’t view it as ugly since it’s like freckles to me.
I have this big freckle on my side, I love it. My boyfriend has a tiny
mole near his goodies. It’s cute lol
guest
big moles that sticks out* are gross
They should get rid of those
the black dotted ones are cute
guest
i have a bunch of moles on my face and i hate them! it makes me very self consious. and apparently, it’s genetic, so i’m sure to grow even more moles, even though neither of my parents or any grandparents have alot of moles like i do. i would get them removed even though they might not all be cancerous.. i’m just terrified that it would leave an ugly scar. x(
guest
i think moles are disgusting. i have a “mole cluster” on my chest and i HATE IT. i also have 1 on my back, and 1 on my foot!!! they’re disgusting and once i get enough money i am for sure getting them removed.
i guess it must run in my family because my half siblings also have a lot of moles, but its so disgusting!! they ended up having them on their face, and other places. one looks like a witch cuz its on her nose and its big kinda. and the other 1 got 1 mole removed 1 facial 1 removed. thank goodness.
guest
lmao i have a mole on the right side of my chin… ^^;; i really don’t know what to think about it. i usually ignore it and it usually doesn’t seem to bother anyone around me but when i asked a few of my friends about it, they told me that it was a thing they noticed first when they saw me… x.x which kind of makes me feel really conscious about it when i meet someone… *sigh* o well. lol getting it lasered off apparently hurts like hell and leaves holes on ur face for about a month. my bro got all of his lasered off and they apparently can grow back afterwards if they’re relatively big.
>.< and moles with hair bother me… or even worse.. the ones with a single strand of hair poking out of it… x.x no offense to anybody…
guest
I have an obvious birthmark on my face, and i love it. People tell me it suits me. I don’t think birthmarks are any different from someone having 2 eyes and a nose. They are just another feature that some people may or may not have.
Personally, i think they make people look unique = awesome.
guest
beauty dots can be attractive. when done right, its a gimmick
guest
@Faith14@xanga - my thoughts exactly. I love my beauty mark and would never part with it
sunflower / 293 posts
You kidding me? I’ve got huge moles all the way up my arms and legs. Somehow they skipped my face but still I wouldn’t part with them because when I look at my hands and see the moles I feel safe knowing I’m still me cos of *my* moles that are still there.
guest
i love my moles!
although according to you, a lot of my ‘moles’ would be classified as freckles…i love those too! haha

Wow, this brings back all the terrible, self-confidence-eroding memories from my childhood.
I hated my mole growing up, even though my mom, aunts, and every older woman in her 20′s and 30′s at the time told me that it made me look like Cindy Crawford and they wished they had one. No one else I knew had one, so I always felt ugly. It was the only thing I saw when I looked in the mirror. I swore as a young girl that I would get it removed the second I turned 18. I hated it and I hated myself. The first time I put on makeup, I was probably 9, I caked the coverup over my mole to see if I could make it go away. I laugh about it now (it must have looked hilarious), but at the time I was desperate. As a teenager it bothered me when people looked at me for a fraction of a second longer than they should have. That is, until they started saying why. Apparently they thought I was beautiful – strangers even came up to me and my parents and told us so. I thought they were crazy and making fun of me.
One day, when I was 19 or so, I looked in the mirror and saw what they saw. I finally realized that mole or no mole, I am beautiful, because this is who I am, inside and out. I think it’s sad that almost every person on here who has a mole felt the need to apologize for it or excuse it, so I won’t.
When I first read “Blatantly noticeable moles, to be frank, annoy me,” part of me wished I could see you and start criticizing your appearance, just so you’d know how it feels - but that’s the hurt child in me coming out. I’m sure – or at least I hope – you didn’t mean it in a hurtful way, just superficial.
Glad to see all that “beauty is natural” propaganda is really getting somewhere. Or not. I believe in it, and will teach my daughters that they are beautiful no matter what superficial people say. I just hope they have real people in their lives who value them for more than what’s on – or not on- their face.

I’ve got a Marilyn one.
And I love it.
As long as it’s not, you know, three-dimensional, you shouldn’t have a problem with it… =/
guest
the last person isn’t a celebrity i think.lol
guest
I have some pretty big ones. Two on the back of my neck. One on one of my boobs (it’s my indicator of how low a neckline I can sport). Right now they are not in any harmful places, do not appear cancerous, and are not causing me any distress, so why pay the big bucks to have them surgically removed?
guest
youre jealous.
guest
Sarah Jessica Parker got her’s removed recently I heard.
ALSO
You forgot Julia Stiles…
She has them all over her body, and they can be seen in multiple movies.
guest
i think moles are very unattractive. if i had a mole, i would get it removed. it takes the attention away from your entire face. when i look at people with moles, i find myself only concentrating on the MOLE! lol.
guest
I’ve got two on my right cheek.. One on the joint of my jaw and another between it and the corner of my mouth. They are slightly raised but not huge by any means. And they’re not black, they’re just a different tone than my skin. I never liked them when I was younger because nobody else had them, but over time I’ve come to accept them.
I’ve also got moles on my shoulders and back. I’m very fair skinned and tend to burn terribly every summer. They have changed and have definately grown over the past few years, but don’t bother me that much.
guest
I don’t really care for moles on other people. It looks good on some people like Marilyn Monroe or Eva Mendes, but doesn’t work on others. I have a mole, and I guess it makes me unique. It honestly doesn’t bother me at all, people don’t really make fun of it and I am still called a pretty person (honestly, not trying to sound conceited)I have it on the left side of my face, and my bro has the same mole at the same location except on the right side.
sunflower / 284 posts
I think it’s silly to remove a mole for aesthetic reasons. I understand the need to monitor them (skin cancer is not sexy), but removing them (or drawing one on) just cuz of the way it looks? Unless it’s so monstrously hideous that it’s impacting your quality of life, I see no need.
I think that moles can add character. I have several–my most distinctive ones would be one above my lips, one on the upper part of my breast, and one exactly dead center between my collarbones. My bf loves them all. I had a friend who had a mole exactly in the middle of her forehead! It was quite distinctive and not at all unattractive.

i say: cut it off!!!
