Now here’s a trend that’s a little ahead of me: ankle socks with high heels. Maybe it’s because my overall style isn’t feminine enough to accommodate them, maybe it’s because I don’t like wearing heels that often anyway, or maybe it’s because I’m just not that fashion-forward, but despite the trend’s retro, Wizard of Oz-esque appeal, I can’t see myself going all Dorothy/Blair Waldorf with the socks and heels.
Still, I said the same thing about skinny jeans, and they’re all I wear now…so give or take a couple of months (and warmer temperatures), I might just change my mind.
What’s your take, Lovelyish readers? Ankle socks with heels – hot or not?
guest
I wear ankle socks with heel occasionally, but it must suit the outfit and socks like in picture two are really cute with heels, while I don’t like the combination of socks and dress in the first picture at all.
guest
I think there’s a right and wrong way to do it. Most of the time though, I think it just looks goofy.
guest
@TornadoChaser@momaroo - I say the same.

i think its kinda cool cuz’ it gives you the edgy look…

not!!! it looks weird..for me
guest

N.O.T

Reminds me of socks and sandals >_> Looks so weird.

I think it looks cute on models but on anyone under 5.8″ it just truncates your look…
guest
I think the danger is to come off looking like an 8-year-old.
I’m sure some people can pull it off, but I’m not one of them.
tulip / 8 posts
Definitely not.
guest
Ick.
1987 called and they want their heels with socks back.
guest
I’m not liking it.
guest
Depends on the way you do it and the look you’re going for. Personally, I probably never would. (I don’t do the skinny jeans thing, either — I think they look ridiculous.)
guest
very not.
its brings back the little girl / 80s looks that went out of style for a reason in the first place.
guest
If you match your heels with the right colour of socks and the right kind, it would be fine. This trend was hot in Hong Kong a few years ago. So someone had done it before.
guest
hot.
guest
Not hot. No matter how hot you are. Not hot at all.
guest
depends
guest
i think if you’re below the age of five, no one’s going to mind. but after the age of five… you’ll look like one of those creepers on Law and Order SVU.
guest
No, thank you!
guest
Depends. with cutesy high heels, and a frilly sock, I like it! Anything else…not so much. It gives that japanese gothic/elegant/lolita look, and I love it!
guest
It probably depends on how thick or thin your ankles are if it would look good. Personally it makes me feel like a little kid so I prefer knee or thigh highs.
cherry blossom / 25 posts
I like taller socks with heels.
A really good look is wearing over-the-knee socks with heels, but crunching them so they are shorter, only to just over the widest part of your calf really, so they are sort of like leg warmers, but also keep your feet toasty. Put a pair of tights under all of this, and you’ve got a winter version of heels-and-a-skirt that won’t give you frost bite!

No.
guest
I had the same exact socks in the middle picture…as a 6 year old!
So unless I had an outfit it really worked with, I can’t see myself embracing this trend. Plus those frilly socks can be tickley if I remember LOL
guest
I wear knee socks with heels all the time. It looks very classy.
guest
SO NOT. find a way to make it look cute (pictures above are NOT flattering in my mind whatsoever) and maybe i’ll change my mind
guest
@The_Prestigiator@xanga - Indeed, I am maybe 5’0, and I’ve tried the ankle socks with heels thing..did not work o.o
and yeah, I also agree with FairyBunnyPrincess–ankle thicnkess matters.

uhm…. ew. that’s terrible.
guest
I think it depends on the style you’re going for and whether or not you can pull it off. Coz some people are able to pull off stuff like that with no problem, while others just look weird and tacky.
tulip / 23 posts
NOT!
guest
Not in the slightest sense. High heels plus leggings are already quite icky, so I can’t see how socks would be any better.
guest
like the second picture shown, but the first and third, BOO!
guest
Really depends on the outfit.
In general, I don’t like it.
I’m more of a knee high with flats kind of person =)
guest
those look like the socks I wore when I was 5. No thank you.
guest
i cant pull it off/ never would.
guest
personally the whole socks with heels thing isn’t that great. although some people do pull it off.
guest
personally don’t like it
guest
Err..DEFINITELY DEPENDS.
It can definitely make or break and outfit if not worn the correct way

I’d say it depends on the leg type.
Personally, I have very butch and muscular legs, so I can’t see myself wearing ankle socks without making my legs look even huger.
For thinner girls, the look would work. But of course, thin girls look good in almost everything (except for maybe filling in the boob-age).
As for skinny jeans, I think they’re for everyone. If you’re a little on the thunder thigh side, then dark colored skinnies work great. They have the slimmer effect on the legs
guest
lol–I wore socks with my heels today
BUT, I would never wear that combo with a dress or short pants. The pants I wore today were longer and just grazed the floor so no one knew I was wearing socks. I have to wear socks with heels because I have to go up a size for width and they’re too big, but the size smaller doesn’t fit at all.
guest
i think it could actually be hot, but it depends on what you wear it with and how you wear it. i think a pair of black socks with some black shoes – if you match the socks and heels – it could actually look pretty good.
guest
not.

Not.
guest
Ugh I have ALWAYS hated that look.
guest
it depends on what kind of look you are going for. i think it fits best with that ultra preppy look or 50s teen kind of girl look lol.
i think heels are cute with knee-high socks though!
guest
I think the last picture carries it out well, with the boyfriend sweater and the comfy librarian-esque style, but white socks are about as cheeseball as it gets.
guest
aw, cute!
love <3!

hot if u dont have fat legs.. u gatta have stick legs if u wanna pull that one off.. if u dont then ur just gunna look like miss piggy in frilly socks. LOL
guest
once you hit about 8 or so, socks with your dress shoes is a no-no
guest
i think absolutely not. i dont think its attractive. it throws off the whole outfit. it looks like a style that people are trying to create that should definately not happen.
i couldn’t pull it off, but i wouldn’t try.
i said the same thing about skinny jeans too

no no no no no no no no no

ick. no.

Well, the 1st n 3rd photos, I can’t see clearly, coz it’s a bit small.
But the 2nd photo, definitely a ‘no’.
I like matching with long socks (below knee).
I think plaid pattern long socks match with heels (or flat), are nice.
guest
It looks kind of silly and juvenile. If I want to wear a short skirt when its cold, I might wear some sheer thigh highs, but never socks with high heels.
guest
my first reaction was NO but now that i look at the pictures, i just dislike the ones with the white socks…. i guess its gotta be the right heels too
guest
I’m not a fan of heels and socks…
guest
depends but i’d say no in general. the 2nd picture reminds me of little girl socks…def no!
guest
I think it could look good, with the right shoes and the right outfit..
I hate the pointy shoes! It’s such a waste of the material, your feet so obviously would not fit in that space, and it looks so bad IMO.
But I do have the ruby slippers and I do wear socks with those.
guest
definitely not…in fact i think i laughed at the idea in the mall once…oops
guest
It’s cute but socks can make heels slippery!
guest
Ew
guest
definitely not. it reminds me of when i was four minus the heels.
guest
I think they’re super cute! (: It’d totally wear them, but it all depends on the kind of sock you wear with the high heels.
guest
i have seen some for that *school girl* look….
i guess it all depends on the person too. you can take 2 girls and put them in the same outfit, and it might look like crap on one girl and not on the other. it all depends on the persons own body frame, and stuff…
thanks for posting this!

I like black heels with black or white socks are okay. Anything else, Idk!
guest
Hot if it’s done right, this is a head to toe must jive look!
Forget or cleverly play old associations, a gift for sure, it’s a challenge waiting to be taken only by some.
guest
NEVER…..sorry, but socks with heels is just plain tacky!!
guest
Yuck.
guest
It depends on the girl and how she uses it. I’ve seen people wear this trend, and they look super FABULOUS. BUT I’ve also seen some people wear this trend and they look HIDEOUS!
guest
not really, but that keep your feet warm in the cold weather!
guest
not.
guest
i’ll pass
guest
The look actually goes futher back, all the way to the 1940′s. During World War II lots of consumer goods, including nylon stockings, were had to find, so young women either painted their legs with leg paint, or wore socks with their heels.
I guess fashion really does have twenty year cycles, doesn’t it?

@peacelove__CALLIE@xanga - I’m sorry to burst your bubble, but as a veteran lolita, ankle socks are basically a no-no, especially when paired with a very full- knee length skirt. When you think about it, it’s very unflattering (as most wearers have curves) and very childish. Yah, lolita has that concept of being child-like, but we’re not adult sissies. Knee length socks, over the knees, and tights are normally worn with a lolita coordinate. Feel free to google image “lolita fashion” and it’s rare to find a lolita in ankle socks.
