I can’t help it. What else is there to do when you’re waiting in line at the grocery store? I end up making a beeline for the magazine stand and picking up the nearest Us Weekly. It’s not so much the stories that I love (there are usually no substantive stories in these magazines), as the red carpet pictures and the day-to-day celebrity fashions. Who doesn’t love looking at the latest fashion trend, especially when it’s slightly hideous? Case in point: the high-waisted pant.

For longer lines, I’ll pick up the Elle or the Vogue. They usually have great cover stories. I loved the recent Keira Knightley issue in Vogue, where the author reviews the Duchess and talks about what it was like being the biographical adviser for the movie. I used to skip through the many fashion ads and go straight to the stories, but now I find it’s the other way around. I figured my taste in books would become more polished as I got older, but all I end up doing is reading “picture books,” ie, fashion magazines. I read real books too, but that’s what a guilty pleasure is all about, right?

So, Elle, Seventeen, Vogue, Teen Vogue, In Style, Us Weekly… do you read any of these magazines? Should I stop hiding behind the counter when I pick one up?
