I can’t help it. What else is there to do when you’re waiting in line at the grocery store? I end up making a beeline for the magazine stand and picking up the nearest Us Weekly. It’s not so much the stories that I love (there are usually no substantive stories in these magazines), as the red carpet pictures and the day-to-day celebrity fashions. Who doesn’t love looking at the latest fashion trend, especially when it’s slightly hideous? Case in point: the high-waisted pant.
For longer lines, I’ll pick up the Elle or the Vogue. They usually have great cover stories. I loved the recent Keira Knightley issue in Vogue, where the author reviews the Duchess and talks about what it was like being the biographical adviser for the movie. I used to skip through the many fashion ads and go straight to the stories, but now I find it’s the other way around. I figured my taste in books would become more polished as I got older, but all I end up doing is reading “picture books,” ie, fashion magazines. I read real books too, but that’s what a guilty pleasure is all about, right?
So, Elle, Seventeen, Vogue, Teen Vogue, In Style, Us Weekly… do you read any of these magazines? Should I stop hiding behind the counter when I pick one up?

magazines are the one thing i can’t help but buy. i bought the new issue of teen vogue today and it probaly wasn’t even worth the three dollars but oh well. sometimes you can’t help it…

Magazines are such a guilty pleasure item for me it’s ridiculous…I can never buy just one either. I end up buying like 5 of them and reading them in the bathtub haha.
guest
I like reading Seventeen.
guest
i get Seventeen, Teen Magazine and Cosmogirl but i don’t really care about the fashion and make-up part. i go straight for the stories like you.
guest
@anonymouslypopular@xanga - I really love your Twilight profile picture
guest
Vogue? LOL I have a subscription! That answer your question?

Magazines are defiantly a guilty pleasure for me. Lately I’ve been getting Real Simple or fitness mags, every once and while I’ll get Us Weekly or some celebrity gossip crap that I feel bad for purchasing because it really doesn’t do me much use except to find out “zomg who wore what.” ( i really like the ones with award show dresses )
guest
i love teen magazines, but the only thing i like about them are the real-girl stories. the rest is dumb.

I really like reading Elle and InStyle. I usually look at the makeup products they use, but I don’t pay attention to the tutorials since I’m Asian and I don’t have double eyelids like the models. But I definitely keep my eyes on the clothes and the equally unaffordable handbags.

I’ll admit to not just eyeballing, but actually buying the occasional issue of InStyle. Well, buying it, taking it to my stylist because I found my perfect next hair color in its pages, using Post-It notes to “tab” the pages where I found stuff that I like, using it as a reference to find inexpensive look-alikes of the high-price merchandise laid out so attractively on its glossy pages…LOL. It may seem a bit OCD (and, I confess, it probably is), but at least by the time I’m done, I’ve read that damn thing from cover to cover and my desire for guilty pleasure has been completely satisfied!

reading magazines should not be a “guilty” pleasure lol
i loveeeeeeeeee teen vogue btw (:

I dont buy magazines
Like Seventeen / Teen Vogue / Cosmo Girls
Stuff like : THE MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENTS*
Those are not even actual articles/ beneficial/informational to me in anyways
I wouldnt pay $4.00 for some cheap laugh
I only read magazine, like yourself when waiting in line for grocery shopping, or dental / doctor office – when there’s nothing else to do
I think I can write a better article then they do- lol just kidding
Some articles are pretty good I must admit
But they throw in too many random stuff – like advertisement, embarrassing stories, hot or not* guys , rumors or not* on celebrity gossip

I love the fashion and gossip magazines so much. It’s kind of embarrassing.

I buy Seventeen regularly(the local version one). However, to get a dose of gossip, I go to Borders and read them all! It’s much more worth it because I can spend as long as I like there and a huge range of mags are available(plus, the mags from US and Aus are really expensive).
guest
yeah, those magazines are a guilty pleasure of mine also
i like vogue, allure, & elle
guest
I have a subscription to Glamour and Cosmo…I love them. I also read people at work to keep up on celeb gossip…I don’t think it is anything to be ashamed of, just a guilty pleasure. : )

I will read anything I can get my hands on… the more scandelous, the better! ;D oxo.
guest
I LOVE my mags! hardly have time to read ‘em but I always get to them! InStyle, Marie Claire,Elle, Oprah! For pure gossip, I don’t subscribe but regularly buy In Touch!
guest
I love them too. When I bored at work and there is nothing to do, it is the only thing to read.
I kind of like the high waisted pants, but you have to have the right body for them, you know?
guest
I absolutely love magazines, they’re the best. I have a whole rack, not to mention to full (and huge!) boxes of magazines in my closet.
guest
thanks a lot
:):):):)

no worries! they’re my guilty pleasure, too.
i usually don’t buy them, though, because i don’t think they’re worth it. i’m not obsessed with hollywood or anything, and sometimes i wonder how true some of it can be, but i love reading them for fun.

I love looking at the pictures and the fashions and things.
And the stories are so so so lovely, too.
I feel stupid buying them.
I usually don’t unless someone I -really- like is on there, or a really good story jump at me.
I had Seventeen subscription with my sisters for a while, but I recently ended it. With the new editor, it got annoying.

You’re talking to a magazine addict. Vogue, Teen Vogue, Allure, Elle, InStyle, Seventeen, Cosmogirl, Cosmo, etc… I don’t recycle magazines either (not without scanning some pages, at least!).

Yes, the gulity pleasures. I love buying them and reading them at home. I like to relax on my weekdays, so I would buy these magazines, sit in front of my tv, and on commericals I would read these magazines. I love everything from people’s magazine, touch, vogue and many others. I also have japanese magazines like Vivi and CanCan..!

I loooooove magazines ! I love reading about new and different styles, advice and tips for makeup, etc.
Seventeen, Elle and Allure are some of my favorites. Or just give me any magazine and I’ll find something good in it ! Vogue or Teen Vogue is actually pretty okay, too once in a while, but they don’t have much material in them. I like the others because they provide more than just pretty pictures :]
