Uggs deserve to burn. I’m sure you can find something else that works.

And funny thing is, for one of my projects I’m working on now, is water proof and warm Converse Chucks.

I actually think some of them are cute.

Guh, I hate Uggs.  But if they’re your only option for salvation…

They are ugly to me, no doubt.  Maybe look for a sleek pair of hiking boots with some insulation?  Most have at least a little insulation, and some of the newer styles of hiking boots look pretty cool.

Uggs are repulsive.  I can think of no footwear less flattering…

Oh wait…crocs.  Ew.

Get boots by Khombu or something.  Very warm, waterproof, and not as ugly.

I have a pair of slouchy suede boots that help to keep my feet warm in the winter. I love them dearly.

Well…………I used to hate them too but I am the same way, I want warm, comfy boots and although they might be ugly, they do the job. PS I didn’t buy real uggs. I bought fake ones at TJ max for 30 dollars. hahahahaha everyone thinks they’re uggs though.

Just because something is in “fashion” it doesn’t mean that it looks good, that’s my opinion on Uggs, Crocs, and Vera Bradley bags.

I have big calves as well, it took me to find a nice pair of boots that where warm and comfy, but I did. Just keep looking.

Uggs are the worst possible footwear.

in my opinion, there are some cute pairs of ugg boots out there but the prices are quite ridiculous. i would never pay a $100 and up for a pair of seasonal boots. to me it’s a big hole in your pocket. you can find cheaper alternatives of uggs boots that are just as cute at target, payless, etc.

I was completely against them. I mean the price, the trend, the ugliness. But I came across a more affordable pair that had a lighter color, and i dont think theyre that bad at all. Very comfortable and very warm. I suggest a cheaper alternative, that way, you don’t have to break the bank and if you still can’t bring yourself to wear them, you won’t feel bad.

uggs are awesome, they are warm, they come in many colours, and they are very durable. I’ve had a pair of dark brown uggs for 4 years and they still look new. i paid close to $200 american, and i have never regretted it. Their soo easy to wash, just throw them in the washing machine. plus they look great with pants tucked into them, or if your wear lulu’s put over top of them. Anyone out there who thinks thier hideous either can’t afford them, or have never tried them on. Don’t buy the cheap remakes, they will only last half the season, and they arent waterproof.

you can find other brands of boots that will keep your feet warm and aren’t quite as hideous as uggs. i have the cold feet problem too, and finding non-ugly warm boots can take a while >_<

You can find boots that aren’t uggs. That are just as warm, comfy, inexpensive, and stylish. Hunting socks are always nice to wear in the winter as well….sometimes its not about style

I think Uggs are so tacky. I can’t make myself like them at all. I hate it when pants are stuffed into boots. It makes me think of cowboys, and even then, I’m not at all for stuffing pants into boots. I vote you wear extra socks and look for other options.

I love my Uggs; I have two pairs. I was vehemently against them to begin with, but I don’t really care because they keep my body warm (which is almost impossible to do) and they’re comfortable. I don’t stuff my pants into them, but even if I did it wouldn’t matter. I’m a firm believer that you should dress the way you want to.

Uggs are not meant to be seasonal boots either. You’re not supposed to wear them with socks, and you can actually wear them year round because the boots’ material allows for your foot to breathe and adjust to the climate. The website gives you a whole slew of info, and some of it is actually interesting.

Boots that lace up. I have huge calves too and the best solution is to shop around.

Do not give in to Uggs. They’re expensive and you’re right–hideous! Lol.

I’d say check around on Ebay for boots. Surely you can find some better resort than uggs.

Places where the weather gets cold and snowy are more likely to have a big selection of boots.

They’re not the most flattering, but they’re the warmest and have more style in them than hiking or all weather boots. Don’t bother buying real ones though, for half the price of one real pair you can buy 5 different colours of fake ones! I have slight details on mine so they’re not as abrupt.

i refuse to buy Uggs too, although my sis-in-law swears by them.  i have $20 knock-offs from Target that i wear when the weather is really bad and i don’t want to get slush/snow on my nice leather boots

My sister has a pair, they are very warm.  I want some based on the fact that it’s SNOWING out right now.

I wear my Uggs almost everyday. I love them. They’re soft and warm. Trust me, you can wear them with outfits that make them look really cute. Some people make them look hideous. It all depends on how you wear them and with what.

I suggest any of the slippers, if you must get a pair and you think they’re ugly.

Ugg is cute. It depends on you!

I have UGGs and I love them.  I just recently got a pair of crochet ones that may be a good alternative to regular UGGs because they aren’t as bulky.  I wouldn’t get a cheaper version of UGGs though because the lining inside does not hold up like UGGs.  I have bigger calves too thanks to field hockey and marching band but UGGs fit me and fit over my skinny jeans.

Thick socks (2 pairs, if necessary) and sneakers a half size up.  Uggs are overpriced and hideous.  More excusable when worn with pants, I suppose.  The girls who wear Uggs with miniskirts are clearly dressing in the dark.

I don’t understand why so many people are crazy over them. They’re not exactly ugly, but they’re not so attractive either. There are better boots out there!

Delias is one of my favorite catalogs and stores. They have a nice selection of boots and all of them have more style and flair than Uggs, and are a lot less expensive. Look at the Blowfish Fall Line Boot in particular. It looks cozy, comfy, stylish, and is very reasonably priced.

Uggly.  If you really have a problem with fitting your calves into boots, find a cute pair with a wider shaft, buy booties (ankle boots), or below the calf boots.  I would never buy Uggs.

UGGly! I had a pair of rockin’ awesome moon boots that made my feet very warm and elicited many comments. I was known as ‘Moon Boots’ for my spacey shoes. I loved them!

I’ve seen boots way better the Ugg’s. Honestly, they don’t deserve to be a name brand, and with the high cost they don’t deserve to be sold to the market. I think they just ugly and way to simple. I’ve seen shoes that look like Ugg’s, but they are at decent prices and look wayyyy better than Ugg’s!

i frown upon uggs because of their insane popularity but i did see one pair that was light grey with a paisley-type filigree pattern in silver… they looked really sophisticated and cute. but NO PURPLE OR PINK PLZ

I LOVE my Uggs…they keep my feet extremely warm. However, they are not the best choice if you want to use them a lot in rain or snow. However if you want them for those cold winter days–they are great.

They are expensive–but since it’s the holiday season ask for a gift certificate to alleviate the cost. Just a thought…

I love Uggs.. I used to think they were ugly, but they are just so warm and so comfy… I got past their ugliness and begin to love them!

i think they’re cute, but i would never EVER wear fur or any kind of animal skin. just the thought makes me sick. slaughtering animals to eat them is bad enough, and they obviously need their fur more than we do.

there are much cheaper fakes that are just as comfortable and cute.

I really don’t think theres anything wrong with Uggs. I have some and I love them, they keep my feet warm, end of story. Yeah it’s annoying if you wear them with like, sweatpants, but they’re not really ugly, they’re just simple. I think it’s worth the money, your feet will not get cold.

I’d never shell out the money for Ugg boots, it’s just not worth it. I did, however, buy an imitation pair at the Disney store on sale. It keeps my feet warm, plus they’re cuter.

I used to not like them either, but it NYC gets cold, and you know what – they’re actually the best looking warm boots out there.  I own just one pair of uggs, my first pair.  Hiking boots? are you kidding?  Uggs can look cute if you do it right.  I”ve worn them the past 2 days, when it’s just gotten really, really cold, and my entire body felt warm because my feet were so snug. 

honestly, it depends on how you feel about getting them.  there will always be people who hate uggs and think they “deserve to burn” (way to hyperbolize…), but on the other hand, some people love them, think they’re cute/warm and totally worthwhile.  for how warm I’ve been the past 2 days, I have to agree with the latter.  If you think uggs are hideous and can’t stand the idea of them on your feet, don’t get them.

There are much prettier equivelents to Uggs out there that are just as warm and comfy. They don’t call Uggs “Uggs” for nothing! They sure are UGGly!

I used to hate those CROCS, but now they are a must have in my life! So maybe if I gave Uggs a try I might like them… however, the person above my comment said they weren’t water proof which is enough for me to say “no” to them!

i think they look like loaves of bread. that being said, i was at century 21 recently and saw a pair of bearpaw eva.   tried it on, and had to have them at 40, they’re really comfortable and warm, so to me, it’s worth the ugly.   they’re online for  60.

I have UGG Australia boots and I don’t even have to wear socks. They keep my feet so warm! It’s incredible. But they were too expensive. So I convinced my parents an early birthday gift would be an amazing idea for their perfect daughter.

Ugh is right!

It depends, I think, on what you do with them. I feel the same way as you do- I think they’re horrendous and ugly and not deserving of all the attention they get- but I started attending college in upstate New York this year, and god, does it get COLD. I finally caved and bought myself a pair, since I didn’t feel like having my feet freeze.

I’ve learned, though, that if you wear them the normal way, they’re not quite as bad. I don’t wear them tucked into my pants or with skirts… blah, I think that’s awful. I just wear them with my pants pulled over them, and as it turns out, most people don’t even recognize them! Once you separate them from the awful trends they usually go hand-in-hand with, they really don’t look any different from other boots.

Moral of the story? If you need something warm, go for it. You can have a pair without following the trend, which is generally the most revolting thing about them. And people probably won’t even realize you’re wearing them.

my opinion pretty much is that ‘UGG’ is short for ‘UGLY’ and that i would never be caught dead in them, however i’ve recently been in the same situation as you with it getting extremely cold out, and no boots to wear, and any time that i went to the store to look for boots, all i seemed to find were Ugg knock offs which looked even uglier than the real things. So i too am clueless as to what to do.

Oh, and to the people commenting about the fact that they aren’t waterproof: you can waterproof them on your own without ruining them. Go to any camping store and get the cheapest waterproofing stuff you can find. It’ll darken the boots by a shade, but it’s nothing noticeable, and you can essentially run through puddles with them once you waterproof them!

I think the classic Uggs are Uggly, but they have new colorful ones that look knitted or something. I like those. But I guess that doesn’t really solve your cold feet problem.

Get warm, short over the ankle boots (no problems with your thigh being big). There’s plenty of fashionable winter boots out there, just google some to get an idea of what you want and wait until Black Friday for really good discouts at department stores. Or, if that doesn’t work, just buy a pair of tennis shoes. I’ve traded my converse and flats for my toasty sneakers.

I have two pair of boots from Sugar, a company that makes really cute women’s shoes.

Granted, they are a little pricey, but the ones I have are lined with faux fur and have cute patterns on them, and they look adorable with jeans and keep my feet toasty warm!

I like Uggs, actually. I think they’re cute when worn correctly. But anyway, I cannot afford to fork over $200 for a pair so I resort to the $30 wannabe Uggs at Target. They’re cute, have the same basic color palette, and are comfy. Works for me!

Ugs were never made to be worn outside. Some dickhead decided to send them for free to a bunch of celebraties to help them catch on and rather sickeningly it worked.

I got fake Uggs, that look like the exact same thing. I’m in love with them and they actually make my feet sweat sometimes (and I live in Minnesota!) I just got a pair of Emu’s off Ebay for like sixty bucks and it was super worth it. They’re comfy and warm, and they haven’t torn or frayed yet and I’ve had them for almost a year.

i LOVE my uggs they are pretty, easy to get into, and soooo warm. they may not be feminine but they r FAR from ugly plus im telling you they are REALLY warm

I saw a chick wearing a pair with upside peace signs on them. I’m just not a boot person so whenever I wear the stupid boots I do have I end up having my feet get all cut up because they don’t fit right so maybe you should just look for heavier socks. I’m sticking with sneakers and if I hit the lottery which would require me to actually buy a ticket I’d head back to Cali where you don’t have to deal with evil snow.

Uggs are hideous. I actually saw some gold ones this year. I personally just like nice leather boots and wear really big socks in them. There is a brand called “Emu” which is a little better than Uggs but also very expensive and doesn’t look that much different.

Yes, they do live up to their name because they are quite “UGGly” hehe. However, I bought them because they are super warm cute and I hate wearing socks (hence, the reason why I love wearing flip flops/sandals yearly but I hate the cold). The price is pretty good, just buy kids sizing if your size in Women’s is up to size 9 or 9.5. Only $97 (with tax in store) for the classic medium ones! They do look good with some outfits though!

everyone in california has them… I don’t… I refuse to cave in to the expense. But I think its justifiable if you live in cold climates.  California does not equal cold climates unless you live in Tahoe or WAYYYY northern california. 

I knew tons of girls who wore uggs. they never ever looked attractive. even when they tried wearing them with miniskirts in the summer.

I recommend just getting a nice pair of wool socks and wear your regular sneakers. or perhaps check out a ski/snowboard shop for like performance wear. but sock wise. those may be thinner material but still keep your feet warm if the thick wool socks don’t fit in your shoes

funny this article. i actually caved today and bought a (fake/cheap) pair. but i have a good excuse… i’m pregnant and i needed something warm that i could just slip on my foot and go. i think i am going to have to burn them once baby gets here!

Same calf issue. I managed to find a pair of fairly short, fur lined stilletto boots last year that saved my ass.

This year… I moved to LA to keep my feet warm.

I have very adorable, stretchy, sweater-y boots that are much more attractive than Uggs, and they keep my tootsies extra, extra warm. 

You can definitely find something better than Uggs. 

I finally caved and got a pair of nice warm fuzzy Uggish boots at Walmart for 12 bucks and they are awesome!! I’m a swimmer so I have extreme calf muscles and they keep them and my feet nice and warm between practices and during cold weather.  They are great. You can wear them with your pants tucked in (which I thought was extremly weird at first) or out.  And they slip on which is so nice!

I stick to my Converses…I refuse to buy them cuz it’s much harder to play the drums in chunky boots!

They’re thick but not furry on the inside so they won’t get matted down and they aren’t so ugly!

I always thought Uggs were hideous too but then I found a new model of Ugg that had a zipper up the back that was more stylish and tighter fitting.  Once I tried them on I was sold.

They are way more fashionable than the bigger frumpier Uggs and my toesies have been toasty warm so far this year!

But, my opinion, I’m in the same boat as you actually, haha. I’m thinking about buying a pair, but a knock off because I can’t afford the real thing. It’s completely up to you, you wear what you want. There’s always going to be atleast one person out there who won’t like it– so just make yourself happy.

I think they’re really convenient for the winter time. Easy to slip on and comfortable. But Uggs are really expensive. You can find cheaper alternatives at like Target or Payless or DSW.

I live in england right and i can’t believe what i’m reading. Uggs are just amazing and over here you will see them everywhere. They are so warm and unbelievably cute and they are well worth the money. Mine from last year still look new and they are still just as warm. They are so in style and i can’t believe people say they are unflattering.

Wear thicker shoes like etnies, or even just normal sneakers.  I would NEVER buy uggs no matter how comfortable or warm.  I agree, they are hideous.  Plus they’re too expensive!  It’s not worth it.

Uggs are hideous at times. People wear it too often; usually the wrong times, ie: SUMMER!?!?!?. Now that’s an eyesore.However, when worn properly with a MATCHING outfit, it can look great. You just have to work with what you have. And well, sometimes the best fashion styles are the creative ones that an individual creates – not the fashion style that has been created by designers/etc. Why? Because EVERYONE ELSE is doing it. Wear what you want, be what you want, and do what you want. Sometimes, the way you dress will show who you are as a person, showing individuality. Life’s too short to worry about how big your calves are, how hideous uggs can be, etc. You WORK with what you have and throw aside the “problem (s)” at hand.

i don’t like uggs myself. i stick to my brown aeropostale boots, but people sometimes mistake them for uggs (when they don’t really bear all that much resemblance). you can try some cute flat boots that are mid-calf to knee length. i realllly want to get a pair. otherwise, i know there’s a tons of other kinds of boots that AREN’T uggs. they’re not so hard to find.

Not only has 10 years of soccer given my the calves of well… soccer players, but everyday I trek from one end of campus to the other and my feet are SO COLD.
I actually battled with myself this morning.
My 2 sisters have pesudo-Uggs. (faux-Uggs are everywhere now… Wal-Mart, Gabriel’s, every store in the mall…uh..EVER.)
And I was like, should my toes freeze in lab today or should I just give in?

Wow, these are my sentiments exactly!! I’m going to school in Indiana right now and every other girl has a pair of uggs for these wintery, snowy days and it seems reasonable but I can’t bring myself to conform nor spend a fortune on a pair of shoes when I could use that money to buy a plane ticket home instead! I don’t know what to do either… so you tell me, please

I hate the Ugg boots, simply because such a large portion of the female population wears them. On top of that, they all wear them the same way: jeans tucked inside. Seeing a group of teenage girls like myself walk by with that same fashion statement tells me that there isn’t much originality going on in their heads.

I do think that the slipper-type ones (with the fur rim) are cute, because they’re comfortable, and it’s not obvious that you’re wearing the same shoes as 70% of the people around you are.

I always go for some thick knee-highs or shin-high socks, whether striped, checkered or plain. They keep my conversewearin’ feets pretty warm.

Also… Santana Canada has extremely comfortable and pretty stylish boots that are the warmest I’ve ever worn (I used to live close to Alaska – I know what I’m talking about, haa).

just my personal opinion, but i love uggs…they’re really comfortable, warm, and there are cute styles out there.
if you want a different alternative though, you can try emu…they sell those at pacsun.com. they’re maybe only like $20 cheaper than uggs though, but they have different styles that i also think are cute.

I’m right there with you. I have insane dancer calves and not even those cute little fringe boots fit my calf area. They were my only hope for warm toes in the winter and preventing the strangulation of my poor not-so-little muscles…

It’s funny because I used to make fun of people who wore uggs, and now I’ve been looking for a pair but theyre sold out everywhere. They just look too cozy especially because winter is around the corner. Despite how comfortable they are, and the fact that I’m going to buy them.. uggs still stand for uggly

Oh girl, just cave and buy them. I hate them too, think they are the ugliest things in terms of fashion EVER (okay, not EVER. there IS the 80s to think of), but boy, are they comfortable. I mean it. I caved this year, and my feet LOVE me for it. they’re toasty, and warm, and sooo sooo comfy. But I do second what some of the other females say: no mini-skirts or other weird choices with them. They’re ugly enough as it is.

I don’t like Ugg boots, but I do like the fuzzy moccasins. They’re so comfy and keep your feet just as warm

I think the plain ones in the picture are cute. The furry ones that look like a dog, not so much. I have a plain brown pair and while they’re not my favorite pair of shoes, they’re nice to have on cold nights out. I’m sure you can find something to keep your toes warm. Good luck. 

I am so sick of seeing uggs, the sight of them makes my want to gag. They’re warm, but so are dozens of other brands that are a hell of a lot better looking and cheaper. My friend paid $300 for a pair of ugg boots, when I bought a pair of very trendy and attractive Ed Hardy boots for $100 that are just as comfy.

Soul destroying experience, indeed! I just went through this the past week or so while shopping. I looked at the Uggs, but I couldn’t do it, either. After some searching, I found some shorter, slouchy boots that seem to be equally as comfortable. I still can’t get enough of my flats, though. Ha ha. If you decide to go through with the Uggs, I’d buy knock offs. There are plenty out there.

i like uggs. my mom has a pair, and i borrow hers occasionally. i’m not a big boots person though, so i got a pair of moccasins made out of nice suede material that are fuzzy on the inside. i love them

I have fake Ugg-like boots that I wear with my jeans pulled down over them (rather than tucking my pants legs into the boots, which I just think is awkward). They’re not the prettiest things ever, but they’re warm, and really, they just don’t stand out much when they’re mostly covered with jeans, anyway.

I really don’t see why everyone thinks they’re so ugly… At least they’re actually good for your feet, unlike those horrid high heels that are so disturbingly popular.

I, too, hate the classic Uggs but they actually have some newer styles that are fairly cute. They have some that lace up in the front, some with side or back zippers and some with decorative braiding. I would look into their non-classic styles for sure because they are ridiculously warm.

They’re hideous!! I have a real cute pair of fringe boots. They come about a quarter way up my calf and are very VERY warm. Just shop around. Macy’s has a great selection. So does Aldo. Please no Uggs.

Yuck.  I would not buy a pair of these.  Not even the knock off Uggs.  I’d say keep searching for something!  

i used to HATE uggs as much as i hate crocs now but i’m starting to like them. they’re alright. and you can still find other boots that keep ur feet warm but dont look like uggs.

Can’t stand them… I had a pair last year out of despair, it took me a year to find another pair to replace them… wearing them was hell… but they did keep my feet nice and warm…well this year I got the perfect pair of boots other then the fact that they are white…which sucks but it was the only colour. Their DC’s and I kinda look like I’m going snowboarding at any moment but I love them, and I love to ski sooo its perfect I look like I’m heading to the slopes at any moment, and truthfully in a month that’s all I’ll be doing any ways.

That my POV, anyway. If people like them, that’s they’re decision, not mine. Everyone has a different sense of fashion (well, they at least should), and mine’s definitely not mainstream.

Well, I felt the same way. I workout my calves a lot so mine are more ‘full’, lol.
I had my eye on a pair of short, chocolate uggs for a long time. I mean a LONG time.
I caved when I found them for $80 on Nordstrom.com. + Free Shipping.

I’ve never been a “heels” type of girl, although I do love heels – I’m just not gifted with balance, so most of the time I don’t wear them. I love the boots because they’re easy to get on, they’re comfy, warm, and no they’re not sloppy, unless you pair them with big sweatpants and an oversized T (which isn’t a big deal unless you’re out in public, lol)

I love Uggs. Just the plain Uggs [like the ones pictured]. I have black & brown. They’re comfy & they’re warm. They have definitely paid for themselves. I wouldn’t buy something I don’t like though, there are a lot of other boots out there. They do their job though & I think they look cute if worn right. They may not be the best looking boot, but it does it’s job. And when you’re in school in VT, you NEED something warm on your feet.

I’ve got ridiculous calves from rugby and I don’t look that bad with Uggs… at least the short kiddie ones. If you can sneak into their kiddie stuff, do it. They run out to a size six and the designs are better for wide calves. That and they’re actually affordable.

For Winter I think that they are a good idea, plus they last long. Really you only have to shell out that kind of money once if you buy the spray to put on them. I have had my oldest pair of uggs for awhile and they look like new because I put the spray on them.
