I love my Italian family. I got my grandmother’s love for cooking, my mother’s sassiness, and my uncle’s dark hair over my upper lip. No seriously, I am not happy with my dark-hair genes, and I’m not going to shave my face. I’m not a boy! What can I do?

Preliminary answer from the Lovelyish team: There’s nothing to worry about! Laser hair removal can be quite pricey, so a good alternative is Sally Hansen’s Creme Hair Bleach. What are some other products that you guys recommend? Has anyone tried laser hair removal? We hear it’s painful… true or false? Post other questions anonymously through the Lovelyish site. We’re here for you.

Although I do not have a stache, I have used laser hair removal. My dermatologist told me it would feel like a rubber band snapping against my skin. Rather, it felt like a stapler gun on fire torching my skin. You may ask, “If you had to do it again, would you do it?” The answer, unabashedly yes. It’s wonderful not having to shave. Yes, it was painful, but the pain only lasts as long as the procedure is happening, and the procedure, per session, for me was around 2 minutes. Immediately afterwards, there was no pain.,

my mom has darker olive skin and very dark brown hair, and she bleaches her ‘stache. you could never tell she had one. DO NOT SHAVE. bad idea.
guest
sally hansen also has pre-stripped wax strips and they are wonderful when you cant go to the salon.
guest
Wax strips are great and it’d be uncomfortable (not excruciating) at first but once you get used to it, there will be no other bothers.
guest
First of all, is it that noticeable? I don’t know about using creams and such, but if you really don’t like it and it’s a big ass nuisance, shave it. Girls shave their legs? does that make ‘em a boy? OR you could wax it. According to one of my lady friends, it lasts longer than shaving and it looks better. People won’t tell you waxed it because it doesn’t look like a freshly shaved skin.
guest
Hahaha. How cute! You ARE a boy! Just admit it. jk.
For now, thread it. If that doesnt work, bleach. Save for laser hair removal. But definitely laser that sucker off bc even if you thread it or wax it, the darkness will be there (a little)

avon has a hair removal cream that is amazing. i would totally recommend it.

bleaching doesn’t work if you wear make up or sweat, trust me on that : / go with wax at home kits (make sure to follow directions!) or get it done at the salon for you..it’s usually like $5
as soon as i get enough $$$ i’m doing laser removal. one of my friends had really dark facial and body hair and after laser removal most of it disappeared. she strongly recommended it to me!

Do NOT shave, it will make things worse.
I go to salon (beauty room) to get wax.
I tried waxing myself, but I couldn’t do it myself, so I get someone to do it for me.

I get a full on beard. ha. I kid you not. Shaving is faster and less awkward because I can do it in the shower and nobody knows, but uhh it sucks. Cream is fine, but idk weird to do for me while at school and be careful with waxing. I used one and broke out like a bish.
guest
Shaving will cause it to grow back thicker and coarser, so that’s a
bad plan. Waxing, however, works well and will eventually cause the
hair that grows back to be thinner and softer.
I don’t recommend
at-home wax kits, unless you’re already a pro at waxing your
legs/underarms/whatever else. Why? The skin of your upper lip is more
delicate than your legs, and it’s better to let a pro handle it at the
salon. (Don’t get it done at a beauty school… those girls don’t know
what they’re doing yet, and I once got a bad wax there.)
Salons
in my town will get the job done for $6-12, and it’s relatively
painless. It’s over quickly, and you’ll most likely just feel a very
hot sensation, rather than a yanking or stinging feeling.
Give it a try! You’ve got nothing to lose but your moustache

um waxing my friends and i do it.. it cheap, fast and easy….xD

Shaving DOES NOT make it grow back thicker!
Such bollocks, it’s just the way the razor cuts your hair and the way it grows back later that makes you THINK it grows thicker.
Look it up.
But shaving is not a good idea.
Try threading- last longer, if the person who does it is very skilled, you’ll just feel minor pain- like ant bites and that’s about it.
Look for Indian places that do threading in your hometown.
It’s cheap and they’re really good!
I’m kind of lucky whatever facial hair I have is barely there, I just thread the upper lip because I’m fair and paranoid, lol.
I have, however seen some girls who are extremely fair and have really thick, coarse dark facial hair getting it threaded.
Seems to work good for them, though I did hear the lady say she coudln’t take all the girl’s hair off because it was too painful and that she would do it in sessions.
Ouch!

I started to develop a small goatee and my hair over my lip darkened during college–of all the times! They became a royal pain. My hair is too coarse for Nair (and that stuff stinks). Many things like bleach and wax/Nads require your hair be at least 1/4 inch long and who wants to let it go that long?! I got in the habit of plucking a few every few days and that went great until a trip to England where I overslept and in the rush to the airport, my makeup bag with tweezers got checked for the 10 hour flight. 24 hours later we were allowed to check into our hotel and I was horrified to realize the goatee was back in full force!
When I was preparing a couple of years later to go on a work trip to Mexico where we would have no running water, my mother took pity on me and signed me up for laser removal. It was terribly painful during the procedure each time, costs over $500, I walked out with a red rash/sunburn each time that lasted most of the day, and it’s now beginning to come back. But how wonderful it was not to worry about it while camping in the desert!!

just use veet wax strips. my best friend is latina and she has a bit of the girl whiskers. veet works for her

Sally Hansen is fabulous – you could either use the wax strips (my bff tried these and said they were quite painful), you could use a bleach or you could use a depilatory (which is a cream that you just put on the area, leave it set for a few minutes and then BAM! It’s gone – and pain free. =]

lol I saw a girl with a bleached mustache once. The hair was glowing compared to her skin ;D
Just wax like everyone else?

I am from an Italian family, too, and I’m like a hairy man! haha
I get my moustache threaded. Not going to lie — it hurts, but your upper lip will feel like a baby’s bottom.
I have a finishing touch which I use if I can’t go to the threading salon, but I wouldn’t recommend shaving it.
Threading is awesome. I feel so much more like a lady when I get my eyebrows and upper lip threaded.
guest
I go and get my lip hair waxed the same time I get my eyebrows waxed. It’s cheap, fast and not very painful at all.

i had this problem, and bleach AND waxing has saved my life. (bleach between waxing so it doesn’t grow in all dark). I get waxing done at salons. i usually get eyebrows done at the same time. (cheaper when they’re together than seperately, usually).
guest
I don’t have that, but I do have eyebrows that grow very fast! I usually go to a SPA to do waxing to my eyebrows! I have to do it every 2 weeks, though!
guest
you could shave. it might be good for your skin too. regular exfoliating… and you don`t have to wait for it grow back some.
but everyone else is advising against it.
my friend has her tummy lasered and she loves it.

First of all girly, it’s not a “stache” when it comes to women. It’s simply just “lip hair”
You can get sally hanson’s wax strips or make your own wax which is very cheap and you can find recipes on the internet. Just type in something like “homemade wax recipe.”
Waxing would be a good idea since after a long while, you might start to notice your lip hair thin out. Just stick to a good waxing routine such as once a month or once every three weeks depending on how fast your lip hair grows.
I hope it helps! God bless!

I did the cream bleach for awhile but it didn’t work so well after time. I just go get it waxed off whenever it needs it and that works fine. I hurts a lot at first but you get used to it after time! Good luck!
guest
i use a trimmer!
guest
Pluck it.
guest
i have a wax machine and i usually wax my upper lip and my eyebrows, its good all the time!
guest
I thread. It hurts like whoa but it’s clean and if you bleach, especially if you have darker coloring or lots of/long hair, you can kind of see the hair in the light. I can totally commiserate with you. I know it sucks, but what can you do?
guest
@redmnmslover@xanga - can you use that on your face/neck? and how long does the hair grow back after using it? sorry to bug you! I’m just curious :]
guest
hey! sorry its taken me so long to get back to you. i’m sure you can use the cream elsewhere, but i’ve only ever used it on my moustache and unibrow areas. it takes a while for the hair to grow back, but not, you know, forever. i don’t use it a whole lot so it probably takes longer for me. try it out yourself though. its great.
