When model Jean Shrimpton stepped out at the Victoria Derby in Melbourne in a white shift ending 10cm above her knees, she shocked the world. That was over 40 years ago and my, how times have changed.
These days, an oversized shirt (or even lingerie) qualifies as a dress. Underwear? Optional. Personally I love a bit of leg but there’s a point where everything becomes unflattering, tacky and downright obscene. Even the girl with the longest legs looks a bit worse for wearing a Britney-flashing ensemble.
Take Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively for example. She’s a gorgeous girl with a gorgeous figure. So why does the costume department insist on dressing her in too short, too tight clothes?
How short is too short? Does being tall or having long legs mean you can wear whatever you want?

I think short dresses and skirts are more well suited to shorter people because it helps to elongate their legs. For taller people, however, the effect isn’t as good because the short garment would most likely make them look way taller than they already are…and that isn’t a good thing most of the time.

I don’t think so, I mean, I’m tall and have long legs, but I don’t feel the need to wear a triple mini skirt.

If your underpants (or buttcheeks, if you’re not wearing any) show when you bend over, your dress is probably too short.

Auctually. when your tall. you really should be wearing longer skirts. Not like floor length skirts but the ones that are to the knee. It shows that you really do have long legs and it gives the guys soemthing to look forward too when your alone. who would want to show off everything to start off with.. TRAMP!!. longer skirts are deff more sophicated and sexy. but for thoes who are shorter. wear a shorter skirt it shows that not only you have legs but they make you look taller.. as long as there not the skirts that are like ass showing, (might aswell not be wearing anything at all) short. and yes tall girls can wear short skirts too they just end up looking slutty if you dont wear them correctly. It also depends on the skirt. there are many angles at whish you could take this topic. but it was a good one to choose.. <3 Banana

I agree with sortingandforting. I’d also have to say that it should be obvious to the wearer of said garments that if you walk and your panties or cheeks are showing, then IT’S JUST TOO SHORT! If I wanted to see panties I’d visit a Victoria’s Secrets store or stand in front of the mirror and look at my own.

I’m super tall with long legs, and I make sure my skirts reach mid-thigh or it’s too much.
If it goes much shorter it just comes off as pure whore-ish.

if i see butt checks, it’s too short LOL
i don’t wanna see your butt checks, or your undies, nor should you be wearing shorts that could pass for underwear please. i don’t care how hot you are!

@SeitekiChibiNeko@xanga - I agree with you

it should be like a paper – long enough to cover the subject but short enough to keep it interesting

For a school event, that is pretty short but for a club, flaunt it.
Tall girls and girls with long legs can’t help it, clothes aren’t necessarly made for them but for people with a more average body. The same thing with short girls, pants don’t always fit them right, they either have to roll them up or tailor them.
If you have legs and you want to show them off, go for it, just make sure it’s at an appropriate setting.

I say, let it be as short as you want w/o revealing the goodies.
If youre going to a hood club, right below your ass cheek! Thats the way They do. If its a normal lounge/place…when you cross your legs or slighly bend over, youre not flashing your butt cheek or female parts. If youre going somewhere where older adults/children are, 2-3 inches above the knee.

Thanks for stopping by! Hope we can get to be good friends!
I have an answer to your post: It’s a proven fact that TV shows, etc., anything with a hint of sex sells. I watch the world wrestling on Friday night and they have posted on the TV screen each Friday about how they have like quadrupled ratings for the last five weeks. The reason why is because they have the Divas wrestling now, half dressed, busty, and mostly blonde, supposedly every man’s dream, lol,
Truly, men are visual creatures, lol.
Hope to read you again soon!

God, no! The girls with long legs are ALWAYS the ones to get busted at school for wearing inappropriate clothing, even if a shorter girl next to her is wearing the exact same thing!

@PlainXJane@xanga - You’re so right! Also, skinnier girls get away with more than curvier ones!

I think it depends on the item of clothing and if the person can pull it off, and whether it looks nice, i think if your underwear is on show then its clearly too short, but if you dont have a skirt on in the first place and the underwear on show is intentional then its fine as long as its not something from bridget jones :/ x

hey! if you`re short and have short legs, you should be able to wear whatever you want. sighs, a mini skirt on a tall girl is just a regular length skirt on me.
though i envy tall girls [like mad!], they should allowed to show off what God gave them, as long as no butt cheek is hanging out.

Well, I guess the way model dress on catwalk are not always. applicable to daily life wear.
Wear what’s appropriate at different occasions.
Yeah, most of the time, being tall, you have much more option to wear different length of dress, skirt and pants. And this is same to the cutting too, the style that is.
I am only 5’1 (or 5’1.5?) anyways. I prefer dress and skirt that is a right above my knee, nothing too short.
From personal experience;
For dress and skirt: nothing longer than below my knee. Or else, long long, almost to my feet, but I rarely have any occasion to dress this way, so I don’t think I have dress with this length.
For pants and shorts: I mostly stick with a slim-cut style, coz I am not tall, so if the style is not slim, I would look really short.
Showing underwear, oh dear….
I don’t think too short and too tight are the way to look good.
I think right fitting is the way to look good.

blake has been wearing all sorts of too short dresses or skirts, it just doesn’t look tasteful at all!

Personally, i think the majority of short shorts and skirts aren’t very cute. I mean, yeah, it IS cute. It works for them. But there’s no distinction, no ammount of short skirts make you unique, because absolutely everyone wears them.

I have a hard time gauging what is too short on me. I’m shortish height wise (5’5″ ish) but I have really long legs for my height, so anything mid thigh or shorter on a shorter person is wayyyy too short on me. I just bought a fabulous dress from Forever21 and was so sad when I got it in the mail and tried it on, only to find out that it will be more like a shirt for me.

i think skinnier girls can pull shorter things, i am personally a rly muscilar girl, especially on my legs, so mid thigh or a tiny bit higher is as daring as i can afford to get.
i think overly short things look bad on anyone. like seriously, that dress was horrible on blake. and the comment she made abt her underwear as she entered the elevator in that scene gave me a shivering britney flash. no bueno

I think in this day and age many girls try to look cute by dressing in skimpy clothes when in reality they just look slutty. I feel that some skirts are wayyy to short and skimpy outfits should be saved for in the bedroom. Or just buy some sexy lingerie and wear it for you special someone. But keep it private!
guest
Too short is when your behind is hanging out. If your legs are long, more power to you, but the minute I see @$$, it’s time to pull that skirt down.
guest
@sortingandforting@xanga - i totally agree! i’m short (5 feet), so whenever i buy dresses, i shorten them a bit to make my legs look longer. taller girls should wear skirts that hit the knee… that actually shows they have long legs, without it being “questionable.”

well, blake is playing a 17 year old, but yeah, some of dresses are rediculously short
