When I’m not drawing from fashion mags or online tutorials for new makeup tricks, I find inspiration from female celebrities. While I’m not necessarily a fan of all of the following, I must admit that they really know how to glam themselves up! These women not only look classy, but they sport looks that a regular girl like me can easily copy.

 

Hopefully, I’m preaching to the choir here, but good and bad makeup makes a world of difference (Exhibit A: Aubrey O’Day of Danity Kane.) While I don’t think makeup should necessarily “replace” your natural looks, it can definitely either enhance or eclipse them. That being said, let’s look at some of the bests and worsts of Hollywood makeup.



My favorite looks:

    

America Ferrera at the SAG awards. Look at how naturally the bronzer blends across her skin! I’m a big fan of a skillfully-done peachy glow as it’s hard to achieve without turning orange. I also like the strong brows and downplayed eyeshadow, which emphasize her bold (yet not gaudy) lip color.

 

Evan Rachel Wood, pre-goth days. Your makeup doesn’t need to look dramatic in order to be glamorous – clear skin and subtle pink blush can go a long way. A classy pink lip’s not as easy as it appears, either – sometimes it’s hard to avoid excessive shininess or a pale Pepto-Bismol tone.

 

Keira consistently pulls off an elegant smokey eye with sculpted (NOT orange!) cheeks. Now if only she’d stop pouting in pictures….

And then there are the looks that are so bad, they detract from the celebrity’s natural beauty. You’d think that with all of their money and fame, these women would have the resources to find a better stylist.

My least favorite looks:

 

Katy Perry looks way too gimmicky for my taste. She’s blatantly trying to push the recycled pin-up girl look, but here she ends up resembling a clown or a kid playing dress-up.

 

What really bothers me about Lindsay’s blonde look is that she could do SO much better. She’s naturally very pretty, but the blonde makes her looked washed-out and almost dirty. The pink lips don’t do much except cheapen the look. There’s a difference between looking typical and down-to-earth, and Lohan ain’t doing the latter.

   

I don’t care how hot my guy friends say she is, I think Megan Fox looks like a porn star or a mannequin. If she’d only lay off on the bronzer, close her mouth, and use more natural lip colors (and maybe lessen the plumper/collagen?), she’d look decently exotic…and in these pictures, she’s looking on the brink of trashy.
