I normally hate wearing heels but there are few times a month I feel like I have to wear them, mostly on dressy dates and business meetings with people I’m seeing for the first time. I hate wearing heels because I have wide BoBo the Clown feet and can never find heels that feel comfortable after an hour.
However, I noticed that on the days I decide to sacrifice comfort for heels that there’s something different about the way I’m perceived and maybe even the way I carry myself. I know that heels make my legs seem longer and that I can’t really slouch in heels when I stand so I stand up straighter, which I think makes me appear more self-confident.
I think these slight physical differences are noticed by other people. It could be my imagination but I receive more compliments about my outward appearance when I’m wearing heels than when I wear my black ballet flats.
Do you feel more attractive in heels versus flats? Which do you prefer when you go out?
guest
Well, being nearly six feet tall [5'10] makes it difficult for me to wear heels without towering over everyone. But I don’t necessarily like flats, either. I just wear Converse, but then again, I’m just a kid.
guest
I prefer stilts.
guest
I don’t like heels, but I do find that I feel more confident/sexy when I’m wearing them. I’m also short (5’1″) so heels makes me feel less like I’m looking up to absolutely anybody and everybody.
guest
I completely fail at walking in heels.
guest
I like some heels – at 1″-2″, but nothing too uncomfortable. Sometimes I am lucky with finding comfortable shoes by Nine West, Franco Sarto, Kenneth Cole, Sofft or even Clarks. (Yes, I have a pair of black Mary Jane Clarks with a 2″ heel.) Hmm, that reminds me… I have to get my Franco Sarto ankle boots fixed! One of seams split but it is a comfortable 1.5″ heel!
guest
For everyday, I prefer flats…they’re comfortable, and also, they can be stylish. But occasionally I’ll wear heels, and I feel confident when I do put them on.
guest
I love heels, I have too many that sit in boxes never worn. I prefer flats because I walk to where I go. But I do think I look better in heels.

on the off chance that i end up wearing heels during the year (for band concerts), i generally feel more… adult in them.
i hate how my legs look in flats though. i have reeally thick ankles and im short.
and @wherethefishlives@xanga - lmao

I love heels! I wear them everywhere, even if it’s a short trip to the grocery store. As for flats? I was never a big fan of them, until earlier this summer, i bought my first real pair. But that didn’t make me love them as much as i love heels (considering i still have that one & only pair of flats).
I guess ‘coz i’m about 5’2, and i feel much more confident and sexy when i’m wearings heels since it adds up a few more inches to your actual height. But flats? Just makes everything seem so… dull.
guest
i hate heels, because first off, i have chicken ankles, && second, i trip over EVERYTHING. i’m five feet, but i’ll stick to my dressy flats, thanks.

Flats. I’m tall enough and I can’t walk in heels.

I can’t wlak in heels worth a damn, and ballet flats go well with my “cute” style, so I wear those msot days.
guest
I LOVE HEELS! Everyone knows that but am not able to wear them everyday so i think that I’ll just stick to my regular flats… plus they’re easier to walk with and still give you that great look.

flats!!! heels kills my feet!!!
but i am short so i really need to get used to heels some how..i think…
guest
Definitely feel hotter in heels. Wish they were more comfortable
guest
I use to love wearing heels but as the years have passed, comfort was more important so I wear flats a lot. However, if I feel like wearing heels or if the situation presented itself, then I’ll wear heels.
guest
i absolutely love heels
but my boyfriend is maybe…2inches taller than me?
and i wear like..2.5″ heels a lot of the times so it makes me feell self-conscious (even though he loves it when i wear heels) so i opt for flats.
guest
definitely in heels! but flats are comfortable, sighs tough decision!
guest
high heels are definitely the power shoe. they make a huge difference and people *always* notice when i’m wearing heels.
so i end up wearing high heels more often and only wear flats on days when i don’t expect to see may people at work.
i love heels.. but no matter how comfortable my heels are (Jessica Simpson – NOT “JS by Jessica Simpson” – are surprisingly super comfy… but my favs are my Kenneth Coles and my Cole Haans), my flats are *always* more comfy.

i definitely feel more attractive in heels. but comfort over anything else, so flats is definitely more my kind of thing!
guest
I feel more confident and sexy in heels vs. flats. I’m not tall (5’5″) so when I wear flats, I feel small/short. But when I’m in my 3″ heels, I feel like superwoman.
I just wish that heels were more comfy!
guest
flats = cute
heels = hot
guest
Short heels are okay. I guess I’ll look more mature in them?
But I will never try on those high (3.5″ anyone?) heels!

I love heels! But I usually only wear them for special occasions or if I’m going out.
Otherwise, flats are the way to go for me. (:

I am just not a heel person, I can’t balance in high heels. But I do wear shoes with “normal” height of heels.
I am not into flats, it’s not healthy to wear flats. A “normal” height of heels is healthy to feet.
Just frustrate me, it’s hard to find stylish shoes with “normal” heels.
guest
I don’t know how to stand/walk in heels. Someday I will get someone to teach me, but generally my feet aren’t close enough to the same length for them not to look stupid in open-back shoes, and I hate to be able to see where my toes end in women’s shoes.. I live in sneakers.
guest
i’m very short so heels elevate me to just short…which is kinda nice! plus some of my clothes only look good paired with heels. too bad my knees can’t take wearing heels except on special occasions : ( so i’m mostly stuck wearing flats!
guest
heels! stepping into my 4″ heels instantly make the world seems more magical.
however though, if i knew i would be doing a lot of walking on a particular day, i would either wear flats, or carry a pair of flats in my bag, so that i wont die halfway.
guest
I live in a place where my height (5’6”) is considered tall. I love heels and I actually have a lot of really cute pairs but I feel so self-conscious wearing them because I end up towering over everyone (guys included.. blech). So! When I go out, I usually wear flats or sandals. I have only been brave enough a handful of times to wear my heels when I’m out at nights. Lol
guest
Heels. I even have slippers with heels!

I’m short! Wearing heels gives me a boost. As long as I can walk properly in them. Wore some pretty high (for my standards anyways) heels tonight, and I’m 5’3, and I love the way it makes me feel. but I rarely wear them, so I’m quite happy when I do
I couldn’t do it all of the time, my feet would hurt.
guest
I prefer flats ’cause they are much more comfortable and they’re good for everyday use. Though i’m really short, i don’t get that much affected at all. Maybe not until i move to Australia. Damn, i need to buy more heeled shoes.
sunflower / 451 posts
I feel less attractive in heels because I have no clue how to walk in them and there’s nothing sexy about falling all over the place. Also, I’m 5’8″ and living in a country where the average woman is 5’2″, so I feel no need to emphasize my height even more.
guest
I wear heels to work every day, usually about 3″, sometimes a little higher. I don’t need them for height, as I’m 5’6″ I could wear either flats or heels and be fine. But I like the way they look, and how they improve my posture and all that. Balance isn’t an issue… I’ve been wearing them since I was twelve, and at this point I can pretty confidently RUN in heels.
That said, I do have a couple pairs of flats that I really love. They are so comfy
guest
I have on heels today and many people have said something about the way that I look and how I’m carrying myself. So I say it’s worth it to wear heels….if you want to be notice.
guest
I wear heels whenever I have a reason to. In general, I like them more than flats, but the situation/the outfit always makes the final decision.
guest
i hate heels, i hate how women are expected to wear heels, and flats, and all those other incredibly uncomfortable shoes because, of course, people LOOK at your feet. yeah right. it makes me really angry how women are expected to wear completely uncomfortable clothes because of how materialistic our society is; women aren’t objects. it hurts to walk in those shoes, stop expecting us to. (if you like heels, though, that’s a totally different story!)
on that note, i secretly laugh at the short girls that wear heels every day. they just seem even shorter to me. why can’t they embrace their shortness? there’s nothing wrong with it.
i wear old ratty running shoes that i’ve had for about 4 years and i wear them loose so i never have to tie them. it’s like a protest but not because i would cry if i were forced to wear flats or heels. haha
guest
heels on special occasions. i love shoes. period. but flats i use more on a daily basis. i have school and i walk all around campus. can’t be walking around school in heels all day long!
guest
It depends on what I’m in the mood to wear.
My shoes are equally cute so when I wear them, I feel cute.
However, if I’m going out to clubs or bars, I prefer wearing something that makes me feel taller. Unless I’m just in the mood for comfort. But it’s always heels for interviews & anything professional..
I read somewhere that the best time to go shoe shopping is late afternoon when your feet have swelled to its usual size. Perhaps that might help with shoe shopping?
guest
I love heels. If I didnt have the back issues that I do I would wear them all the time. They don’t really hurt my feet, I think girls with wide feet would have trouble with them I know my mom hates them. I’m tall and I love being even taller, it really does boost your self esteem and people do respond well to that.
guest
i love heels, but they hurt =/! most of my friends are short so i tend to not wear heels around them unless we are partying =)…otherwise i go for flats.
@elittlebear@xanga - so agree on “hard to find stylish shoes with “normal” heels”

Heels!
I’m 5’3 and I wish I can grow 3 more inches! I’m 17 years old and I
think my time to grow is over so if anyone have any suggestions PLEASE
inform me.
I’ve tried:
Milk
Sleeping early ( 9 hours sleep)
Eatting right
Excerising
Taking vitamins
You NAME IT!
Nothing work.

@MollyLocketSkin@xanga - It’s genetics. Nothing you can do (although I wouldn’t gamble with the possibility of stunted growth by not taking care of yourself!) I am the same age and height as you. I feel your pain!
guest
It’s true, I do hold myself better, but I hate not being able to move around quickly (see: stairs!). It seems like guys don’t really like heels on girls. They find it non-sensical. But I suspect that this is really only the guys I hang out with.
Also, wearing heels and carrying heavy stuff SUCKS
tulip / 9 posts
I love heels!! Unfortunately they’re painful after a while, especially if you have a lot of walking to do
Otherwise I’d wear them all the time!!
guest
i don’t do heels. if i’m gonna be wearing a dress shoe for more than 3 hours or will be walking any amount of significant distance, i wear flats. i will however, wear tall wedges or thick-heeled boots. i just can’t balance in those skinny heels.
orchid / 129 posts
I’m 5″10 and I love wearing heels when I want to feel sexy. They make my legs looks like they are a mile long. I don’t feel that same way in flats. I’ll still work it in flats but having heels gives me an extra sense of confidence. I don’t however like the fact that they are uncomfortable on my flat wide feet
The things we do to be beautiful.

i like flats :]
I will wear heels for a special occasion, i will probably fall or trip in them though. but flats FTW
guest
I love wearing heels. I wear heels on days ladies never wear heels. I can wear them every single day. It feels comfortable!
guest
I love heels, but flats are definitely more comfortable and practical for work.
guest
I like heels for once in a while but I love my black flats for daily wear.
guest
I’m 5’3″ and I love my height! Although I do get what you’re saying about the way I feel in heels, I feel more confident, almost like my shape takes on another form. But I really, really do like my height and I almost feel self-conscious not being my height. I love flats. And I think there are some ridiculous styles out there when you start getting into heels. I am a simple girl, I guess. I love simple, cute flats.
guest
Definately heels!
Even though I never wear them, I also feel sexy in them. It’s a good feeling.
guest
It’s a trend at my school to wear heels with dark jeans. Few people do it with light jeans.
guest
I feel sexier and more womanly in heels. But god do they hurt..
guest
I like to wear heels because I’m short. I feel more impowered when I wear heels and more confidant. As for comfort, there are flats that are comfy as well as heels. It really all depends on the shoe.
daisy / 742 posts
I prefer flats because they’re more comfortable and I’m not as self-conscious about the way I walk. I’m pretty tall compared to my peers, so I wouldn’t want to wear heels and be even taller. Plus, my boyfriend is only 3 inches taller than me, so if I wore heels we would be the same height!
However, I completely agree with you in that heels makes my legs look longer and I walk with more confidence. It’s true that I’m self-conscious, but it makes me look really good when I keep a good posture and don’t slouch!
But anyhow, I still prefer flats because I’m the type who’s uncomfortable with too much attention. lol
guest
I hate heels. I don’t feel more sexy or confident in them, I just feel awkward. 99.9% of the time I just wear my Sketchers, including every day at work.
guest
I’m five foot nine and walk like a Clydesdale in heels. Therefore, I have a wide variety of flats. And when I’m in a situation where I’m forced to wear heals, they’re low. I don’t feel like they do anything for me.
My sister, on the other hand, is five foot one and wears them all the time. She can walk in them gracefully, they add to her height and physique.
guest
I love to wear heels even if I get countless blisters. There’s a sense of power when I wear them.
My favourite pair of heels are from Balenciaga.
guest
i love heels and feel like i walk and act more confident when i’m in them, but they KILL my feet!
guest
Um…in the movie “She’s the Man,” didn’t the girl say that heels were an invention by men as a form of oppression of women?
guest
I’m 5’2″ and I almost never wear heels. Then again, by the time I started buying working clothes, flats were “in style” and a lot easier to find so I don’t own many heels as it is, but I never feel comfortable in them, I much prefer flats (less likely to trip
)
guest
I like heels for only a few hours, they make my legs longer and plus I don’t feel as short. But I do bring an extra pair of chic flats a long with me just in case.
guest
I feel more confident in heels also… probably because they make me stand up straight.
guest
I hate heels.
My feet are flat and it makes it so difficult to wear heels.
Additionally, I am clumsy, so walking in heels usually indicates that I will fall on my face, at least once during the day.
My shoe of choice? Flip flops.
Yeah, they’re bad for your feet. Yeah, it gets cold..and rainy, but honestly? I don’t care.
I wear them anyway. LOL.
guest
I love wearing heels because of the same reasons you said: My legs seem longer, I seem more self-confident, etc. The problem I have with heels is comfort though.
guest
i honestly LOVE flats. its my everyday AND going-out shoes.
i go for the comfy, sneaker looking flats or simple ballet flats for school or just hanging out with friends. but when i go out i’d wear some really cute and hot looking flats. even if im already short, i’d rather wear my beloved flats than painstakingly “try” wearing heels.
mind you, i LOVE how heels look. its so sexy and sleek and tall. but it’s just that with my experience, i just can’t “rock” them. so why try hard and look stupid? LOL
so i stick with my tried and true flats.
guest
I’m five feet tall, very curvy, and have a 26″ inseam. So by fashion standards, I should pretty much wear heels ALL the time since they make me look taller, more slender, and thereby offset the fact that my legs are so short that my ass practically drags on the ground, LOL. And I do find that when I wear heels, I feel sexier, more polished, and more powerful. My posture is better, and I carry myself better.
I do wear flats most of the time because they’re practical for what I do every day. But for all they do for the way I look and feel, you’d better believe that every time I get the chance, I bust out the heels!
guest
I like both. It depends on the my mood. Sometimes, I feel like walking in these heels I have that I’m comfortable with. Sometimes, I like to wear flip-flops or flats. It doesn’t matter to me. I have a whole shoe closet, so I just wear whatever shoe that I feel comfortable wearing. I don’t wear shoes to make myself taller. I actually like my height, and I’m short.
I know many people judge by your appearance, but when you have the right outfit to match the shoes it’s perfecto!
I don’t care what others think about me, but even though I want to be taller sometimes, I still think shoe is about comfort in most cases.
For instance, if I’m shopping around in the mall for a longg period of time, I prefer to wear flats then my 4 and half inches heels. Or in another case, if I’m going to be going out on a dinner date, than I can wear heels cause I won’t be walking around to much. I dress to my own comfort, and how comfortable am I in those clothing and shoes. Most of the times, I like to dress very chick, sometimes casual and up most sexy. I love heels though, don’t get me wrong!
I have a collection of heels, but I also like flip flops and ballet flats! I think I have a whole closet of flip flops, also!
